I got the same DEF tank sensor code but instead of the resistor trick or replacing the whole tank it’s possible to buy just the sensor. It costs about $350 CAD, access to tank requires removing passenger front tire and wheel cover. Wheel well cover was biggest PIA. After I changed the sensor haven’t had the code come back yet after two years.
I have a 2012 E70; and around 124k miles I also thought I would need to replace the DPF; my shop quotes me like 3k at the time. And also tried to see if it would still fall under the extended warranty but I didn't. 😢 I found this product during my research: Liqui Moly 5169 Pro Line Diesel Particulate Filter DPF Cleaner 1L and took it to my shop as a possible alternative - after looking into it; they agreed it was a sound alternative and did it for less than $350. let me just add this, when doing maintenance specially these 2 important and easy to replace item the oil change: you only need 71/2 quarts of oil. if your D is asking for a 1 quart of oil due to low level, do not put 1 quart, rely on the dipstick, most probably u only need half quart. the second one is air filter : check the filter box if its properly installed. mine has a broken clip and only notice after 2 yrs of no maintenance yes i know. 😅 again i thank bimmer L for encouraging us to take care of our D.

Just had our 2011 X5d with 150K miles at BMW dealer. Car went into limp mode. Codes P0401, 48DC, P0101 and P0299. They say it needs 1) replace manifold pressure sensor, throttle body, and unblock exhaust back pressure sensor tube. Quote: Parts & labor $1,200, 2) replace diesel particulate filter w/low EGR cooler hwd, w/ all sensors on soot filter/ Quote: $8,500, 3) replace all 4 broken partition shelves at fire wall. Quote: $1,100. 4) Both turbo charge pipes seeping/leaking oil need replacement before and after intercooler w/ temp sensor. Also, replace pressure regulator valve. $1,200, 5) Replace both front complete thrust arms, they are worn out. $1,300. We love the car it' in great condition and gets 26mpg but will not spend that money. I requested quotes from two other independent Bimmershops, hopefully they can do much better. Root cause of these problems is not running the engine long and hard enough. Your advice of operating engine once per month at 70-80mph for 1 1/2hrs is spot on. Good video man. My e70 30d is currently in the workshop for a failed damper pulley. U can add that to the list. Also, you mentioned dpf regen, If you don't do enough highway driving then the dpf/cat can block up and cause a cascade of problems due to heat and pressure buildup. Blown turbo seals, incorrect diagnosis of failed turbo due to excessive pcv blow by are just some. If your state allows it, remove the cat/dpf and blank the egr to prolong the life of your precious diesel x5. I have also put a new battery in and it needs front brake pads, front strut mount bushings and front sway bar links. But I will have to do that next month because the damper pulley is quite an expensive (labor intensive)job. Peace and love to all bmw owners✌️

People literally cut the sensor and tie a 10ohm resistor to “trick” the computer. Look at the video comments here , someone tried it and it worked out maybe you can ask the person on how to DIY it - I personally haven’t done it as my whole tank was replaced under extended warranty
@@BIMMERLEAGUE i did the 10ohm resistor and worked oerfectly. But if its under warranty i rather have it fixed. I only have 87k miles - thank you for the video

Hey there! I am in the process of buying this exact vehicle. What website is best to check for open recalls? Also, will a BMW dealership do an inspection to check for these things before I buy it? I am not buying it from a BMW dealership but was wondering if you can take it to them and have them look it over. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Also, it has 137,170 miles on it. Should I have them replace the water pump thermostat or negotiate that through price? I read it needs to be done between 80,000 and 100, 000 miles.
Well at that mileage anything can happen really. I’ve had a BMW do a pre-purchase inspection for me before though so definitely give your local dealer a call and ask. They can also find out about recalls for you. Now 137k miles - I hope you’re not paying more then $6-8k for it 😳
Ok, will do. Thank you. They are asking $12,000. It has been well take care of from the Carfax report. 2 owners, regular maintenance and the inside is immaculate. That is a little higher than others I have looked at but they all seem to be around the same unless the mileage is a lot lower. Maybe I should keep looking.
My honest opinion is to stay away from high mileage BMWs regardless of the price. Especially these diesels can start giving you all kinds of issues with the diesel components at that mileage. We’re actually looking to get rid of ours soon (110k mi) and get a gasoline X6 with 50k miles or below. On the other hand you never know because our X5 has been fairly good to us for 6 years but I won’t keep it for much longer 👍
@@vickibailey6603 I’m considering selling mine. 105,000 miles. If you haven’t bought yet. If your really wanting something like this. But otherwise I’d say the same. Stay away from these high mileage diesels. I’ve been told that BMW makes great diesels, hence why I bought it a while ago. But that’s if you’re in Europe, since they have less emissions restrictions compared to US. Here in the US there are additional emissions systems built in place that can break down in the long run.

The best thing I ever did for my 2013 X5 35d was deleting the DPF and EGR and Stage 2 tune. Prior to this I replaced both DEF tanks and a DPF clean until the dealer told me the DPF was beyond cleaning and needed to be replaced at. cost of $10,000.
Oh yeah If repairs are more or close to what it costs to delete , It’s delete and tune 💯 percent of the time !)
Thanks for making this video. 👍👍👍
Of course!
I'm looking at a2010 35 diesel and the owner thinks that number 3 on your list may be the reason the check engine light is on. I'm interested in the dying to fix it
People literally cut the sensor and tie a 10ohm resistor to “trick” the computer. Look at the video comments here , someone tried it and it worked out maybe you can ask the person on how to DIY it - I personally haven’t done it as my whole tank was replaced under extended warranty
hey,I'm interested in SCR active tank MOD.
Looks like this company is producing the repair kit . Worth checking it out ua-cam.com/video/u8by75Czuqs/v-deo.html
can you give me info on the def sensor resistor repair
Pull out the tank , cut the sensor wire, tie 10ohm resistor to it and test it
Hello is the resistor fix for the passive tank as well? Thank you.
I haven’t done neither myself but if it’s messed up already why not give it a shot with the 10 ohm resistor!? Try at your own risk tho lol
@@BIMMERLEAGUE i did the 10ohm resistor and worked oerfectly. But if its under warranty i rather have it fixed. I only have 87k miles - thank you for the video
Ahh cool yeah agreed 👌
Looking at a 2012 35d. It has a pcv code on start. Do you think this is a big deal? Cost to fix or something I could do?
PCV valve is not expensive to swap out but why any car for sale has a code already ? Mine is for same btw :)
Exactly. It popped on the test drive today. The dealer has to fix it. Just want to know how much to take off the cost if he doesn’t want to fix it.
@@RichardHaley-iz7fs I’d ask $500 off at least but you can someone do it for $200-300
This video is no lie. I think I have or am having every single one of these issues but the idler pully bolt.
Damn . Idler pulley bolt was recalled
hello I have the same car just having issues with the passive tank sensor, BMW dealer wants $3500 for replace the whole tank please advise
Just drop the tank , cut the sensor wire and wire a 10ohm resistor to it . But this is a theory only so please research it more on forums 👍. Hope this helps a bit
Thank you I will follow your advice on this...I will my Mechanic todo it for me....Thanks again
Have you had any NOx sensor CEL issues?
Actually yes I did - totally forgot about it. Replaced NOx sensor about 1.5 years ago
@@BIMMERLEAGUE do you have a video on the nox sensors? I just ordered some for mine. Looking for some guidance
@@kyle9327 unfortunately I don’t have a vid on it . Try finding a forum I’m sure there’s one
Have a 2012 X5 35d 144k have you changed the alternator on one? Tips??
Knock on wood the alternator is still kicking 🙌
Alan , have you had any issues with yours ? I’m looking at a clean 2012 with 83k miles
Is this the M57 engine?
Yeah M57Y
Rather the n57 ur lucky
Did you get any Workshop manual? If so, could you recomend one?
I don’t have any. There’s plenty of data online if I need it 👍
Please help me diy the def fluid sensor issue you spoke of in video.
Pull out the tank , cut the sensor wire, tie 10ohm resistor to it and test it
Anyone had exhaust manifold gasket / studs break?
Super rare I think
Hi I have a 2009 335 d my car has hit zero miles until it starts I just put it in the shop
Honestly I haven’t heard of this happening before 🙆♂️

My x6 35d 2010 today throw the throttle body code.. And cuts off
Hey when I had my throttle actuator code come on and replaced it and it fixed the problem 👌
