  • Description
JAZZ FORUM was a popular programme on 2CR (Two Counties Radio), the independent radio contractor for Dorset and Hampshire (UK). The station started broadcasting in 1980 from former MFI showrooms in Southcote Road, Bournemouth and went through several style changes until it merged with another some years ago. This recording is of the very first programme in the Jazz Forum series, which was presented by Russell Barnes and broadcast in 1980. It also features another well-known radio personality of the period - John Piper. John had an extremely popular programme on BBC Radio Solent (Southampton) for a time entitled Piper's Tune before leaving Solent in 1979 to become the first Programme Controller at the newly-formed 2CR. He retired to Spain at the end of the 1980s and ultimately became mayor in his newly-adopted home town of Sitio de Calahonda, near Malaga.
I hope you enjoy this journey back in time!
