Watched Sid as a rehersal band from the very start, band consisted of members of the BBC Northern Dance Orchestra and the Granada Show Band. They rehersed a new number each week building up a book. Later they moved to another hotel to reherse, forget the name.
Likewise, Sylvia! Glad you enjoyed the short video. Try ua-cam.com/video/wj3NBTnqxTw/v-deo.html on my UA-cam channel if you've not already done so. Kindest regards - Pete
+Sam Leigh-Brown I'm pleased you stumbled on my UA-cam Channel Sam and glad I could evoke some memories for you. I have been an ardent follower of the SLO for more years than I care to remember and must have seen your Dad on several occasions in the past. Brilliant saxophonist! Wonder if you followed in the tradition? Kindest regards - Pete
+Peter Preston Hi Peter, yes, I am a professional singer, as was my Mum, Diana Leigh, to whom my dad was married for 13 years. They were both in the Phil Moss Orchestra at the Ritz at the end of the 50's. Jazz is my forte but i also like to do other music styles Have a look if you want ( in german I'm afraid, but there are a few soundcloud links to listen to) samleighbrown.wordpress.com/sam-leigh-brown-peter-befort-duo/ All the best, Sam
+Sam Leigh-Brown I have seen some of your material, Sam - and you are a very talented artiste indeed. I wonder if you have had the opportunity to play the 'Big Band Concert 1990' video on my channel? This is a better recording of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra - but not of the same vintage as the one above of course. You might also enjoy some of the others if you've a moment or two to spare. I seem to remember that Phil Moss was at the Ritz in Manchester - where I had relatives - and also played for some of the earlier Come Dancing programmes. Happy days! Don't suppose you'll remember them for a moment - but sadly I do! How time flies. Kindest regards - Pete
I saw Norman week after week with the SLO as I used to sell prooogrammes and records for Syd when sharing a house with a trombone player for several years in the late 1960s and 70s
Mark Goodwin My dear friend Geoff passed in November 2003 and this most certainly is Geoff playing here. They played Geoff on ‘Skin Deep’ at his funeral.Frightening playing by a true great!
Amazing drummer! Nobody did Leave Us Leap better than Geoff. Spot on phrasing whatever the tempo, I had the great pleasure of seeing the original Syd Lawrence Band live.
@@MARKMANIATT Oh that's too bad. I studied with him privately for about a year when I was at Leeds Music College of Music. He was amazing! Completely transformed my technique in a matter of weeks. Watching and hearing his incredible power and taste and chops was so inspiring! Were you at his funeral? What an honor.😢
I have just checked the clip again, Terry and I can't find anywhere where the lip sync or anything else is in any way out. I'm so sorry this has spoiled your enjoyment of my short video but try as I may, I cannot replicate the problem you experienced. Kindest regards - Pete
Very odd. On the iPad the vision is definitely lagging behind the audio. But on the the iMac it's fine. Sorry I jumped the gun but out of sync YT music videos drive me nuts (and there are plenty of them). Regards - Terry
Yes. I've had some odd things happen from time-to-time on You Tube. Wonder if you're viewing it in Flash or html5? Sometimes I've had more success with the Flash player. Hope you liked the other Syd Lawrence video on my site, however. The other clip featuring Marion Montgomery and Cleo Lane also has the Ronnie Scott Orchestra backing. Best wishes - Pete
Kevin was my uncle!!
Its lovely to see this footage of family
Thankyou for this❤
Had not seen this before, it brought back great memories when I used to go to their concerts regularly since the 70s, they were superb.
This is great. My Dad was a big fan of big band music and whilst I didn't appreciate it when I was young I love it now.
Syd Lawrence and his orchestra one of the best Glenn Millar tribute bands.
Saw them many times up t’North.

I watched Syd, twice, at The Alfred Beck Centre in Hayes, Middlesex....FANTASTIC!!!!
Great footage which I haven't seen before, the band were really in the groove and enjoyed Syd's trumpet solo.
I went to many a dance with this band am going back in time though.

Sam, was your dad a teacher at Leeds College of Music in the early 80s?
I saw Norman week after week with the SLO as I used to sell prooogrammes and records for Syd when sharing a house with a trombone player for several years in the late 1960s and 70s

ECS dancing under Glen Miller’s music
Unfortunately the picture and sound are hopelessly out of sync. Pity, it's a terrific band.
