- The singer/crooner Michael Holliday (real name: Norman Alexander Milne) sadly died from a self-administered drugs overdose late in 1963. This broadcast - Holliday With Strings - from 1961 demonstrates admirably why the quality of his voice was favourably compared to that of Bing Crosby at the time.

I was great friends with Mike in the 2 years prior to his sad death. I last spoke to him the day of his last alive day. I know his life was OK, he never took his own life as was suggested at the time. We had plans to meet next day. Broke my heart that
the press got it so wrong, made it worse for his family.
Lovely to hear him singing again. M. B
Just come across this one, I think I've got it but, its nice to here it again
Hello Michael 👋 do you know if there are other episodes of this radio show available? Online or on Tape ... I love his music so much ❤️
I'm trying to do some crooning myself. Michael Holliday died (as you mention) in 1963, a year after I was born. I'm a physics professor, who writes and sings crazy tunes taken from pop melodies. However, unlike Holliday, I have no problem with stage fright and so it goes.
I don't know why I haven't noticed your comments long ago, Don and can only apologise profusely for not having replied sooner. I note with interest the remarks about your singing and look forward to hearing some of your endeavours here on UA-cam at some future date. Glad you enjoyed my posting! Best wishes - Pete
How difficult to believe that this guy suffered with stage fright!

He's GREAT!!! Is this from an old album or something else? Just starting to listen, and didn't immediately recognize the songs usually on his greatest hits. Thanks for posting!
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, Steve. This posting is a compilation of a well-liked off-air programme - Holliday With Strings, from 1963 - and some studio recordings. I have always liked Michael's style and it was such a shame that he felt unable to cope with life and left us in the manner he did. I am so pleased that you enjoyed this offering, which is from an era when our music was easy to listen to and far less aggressive than nowadays. (Or am I just growing old?)
Peter Preston Thanks for responding! Yes, Michael really was great. It is a shame to have lost him so early, and even someone like me who constantly searches for great singers, didn't find him until a couple years ago. Wish more people knew about his singing.
