Very interesting and thanks for taking time out to make the video. I understand how you came up with your numbers at 106yds but I must be missing something. At that speed and distance your arrow should take roughly .83 seconds to travel 106yds. Speed of sound would roughly take .285 sec for 106yds. So wouldn't that be a .545sec reaction time?
Great information here. Every bow hunter needs to see this. Especially the newer hunters. Some believe their 290+fps arrow is foolproof.
Thank you! I agree. I made it after thinking through how many times I pointed at a picture to explain it to new hunters where to aim. And hearing all the arguments about deer ducking arrows. I’m happy you found it useful. Thanks for watching and have a great season.
Good stuff, nice work, you do a good job of making it clear to viewers the sequence of your steps and communicating the objective info that can be pulled from it.
I think the key difference between this approach and the very conservative approach that most others take when it comes to shot distance, is that others mostly try to say the distance should be kept to be short enough so that the deer can't even start to react by the time the arrow gets to it. But I've always felt that was way too conservative.
Learned my very first year hunting with a crossbow, 2007 or 2008, that even at 18 yds and 280 fps a deer can still drop far enough out of the way if you aim center mass. So I started aiming low heart after that and have had zero issues, whether they react to the shot or not. And have increased my range as I have started using faster crossbows.
100 % dead on. I appreciate your ability to see what I’m saying here. As technology changes so dose out limitations. Could you imagine if we all still adhered to the advice given in the time of long bows…. We would all still need to be within 20 yards! Anyway I’m happy to hear my information was helpful and informative. I like to help where I can.
Interesting topic and well executed. You may also want to consider the horizontal aspect of deer movement while the bolt is in flight. For example, say a deer doesn’t react to the shot but instead a stationary deer suddenly takes a step just as you release the shot, your point of impact is going to be affected. You could calculate the time of flight and multiply by the deers walking speed to get an estimate of the horizontal displacement. I’ve done this and it’s not insignificant. Just some food for thought. Great video, I really enjoyed it.
That would be an interesting topic to dive into. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching.
Where can I buy nock bushings to install raven nocks on zombie slayer bolts
I talked to the owner. There is a problem with the site but you can call to order. Once the site is fixed I will update the link.

Have a good one guys. Thanks for the question.
Heart shots, I need to remember that. I got 1 deer with my ravin at 60 yards but I was shooting from a bench
Yea. It was a great article. There is a link in the description if you want to check it out. I always told my kids to aim center vitals. I remember some high shots and now I know why. I’ve always aimed at the top of the hart and haven’t had many issues. This makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for watching.
I was just going through my subscriptions and I just want to say that there is no way to judge reaction. Seriously. Depending on the deer.anxiety and the overall situation,no body can predict what a deer will do. If you are walking down a hometown road versus a Chicago neighborhood road after dark….what is your mindset? What is your reaction time to a “possible “threat? Every single hunting adventure is going to be different. C’mon, please don’t start telling people how far they can ethically kill a deer or anything for that matter! My God , you are trying to be god. Shame on you
Wow, you really made a mountain out of an ant hill there didn’t you sir. The data was collected from an article written about compound bows and I use the exact same information to make the comparison to Bose then versus Bose now. Don’t shoot the messenger. I just read the article and translated to equipment being used now. Further, I’m not telling anyone to shoot deer at any range that’s their choice. Thanks for watching. Have a good one.
