    Lemon sugar cookies plus Springbank funk! Yes, please! Love the color and interesting ABV. Springbanks are hard to come by in South Louisiana. Great review - thanks for sharing this one! 🥃

    Damned, another video to convince me I missed this one...quickly sold out & getting too highly priced for me...Would love to try this & probably get it...or wait for another version with Madeira (one of my favorite finishes I have to say). Cheers ! Love that blue label interplay with the whisky's color too (the painter in me I guess, or the whisky fetichist, lol).

    Great review as always gents. This release consists of rum and bourbon casks which were finished in Madeira hogsheads for three years, interesting combination of casks/maturation which gives tremendous complexity. Benefits from time in the bottle and glass as well.

    Random question but what should I pick between this with Laphroaig 25 y/o cask strength? Really struggling with these options

    • @topshelfdustin3060
      @topshelfdustin3060 2 роки тому

      Laphroiag is a better whisky, but this is a much rarer and harder to get bottle. Kinda depends on if you'll have the opportunity on the 25 in the future.

      @@topshelfdustin3060 so springbank 17 would be a better choice in a collector's view? Btw Laphroaig 25 the one that I'm looking for is a 2015 release the black labeled one

    • @topshelfdustin3060
      @topshelfdustin3060 2 роки тому

      @@ssss-ev2fi not really a collector myself, I just buy to drink. So I can't really help there. I'd assume with collecting there's more to why people buy to hold onto some bottles. The springbank finishing is more unique than most so that's just a cool thing to taste. Not sure if collectors care about that or if the old black box 25's have any real premium in the collecting world. 2017 and 2018 were much better 25's imo than the 15.

      I like the 10 more than most 12's Keith. The 10 really is one of my favorite whiskies to drink 2-3 glasses of in a night. Each pour the smoky notes grow on the last. I think these resent 10's are just outstanding whisky and the 15 isn't for me at all.

    Great stuff, still looking for this one to show up at a couple of shops in Indiana. Gonna get any Kilkerran reviews? Tried the 16?

    • @topshelfdustin3060
      @topshelfdustin3060 3 роки тому +1

      Not likely to review kilkerran anytime soon. I have the 16 and the disaster that recharred 8 year sherry cask was (I'm already getting hate mail for thinking it). I'm sure we could do a review but frankly other than that 15 year single cask Mike reviewed, I haven't had much from them that was really worth a review. It's generally good whisky that doesn't wow. Or too young and a bit unpleasant.

      I really like the 12 and 16. Not “wow” whiskies, but very good and reasonably priced IMO. I agree that the 8 yo re-char was waaaaay overhyped, but I enjoy it and it’s worth the $75 I paid for me. Cheers!

    They are so reasonably priced over here in the UK that they do not even reach the shelves whereas over in the US they are priced quite high. I generally do not have a problem getting each of these releases and I paid £90 for mine. I agree with Mike it is rich and quite complex.

      Yeah, it's a catch 22 with springbank and price. Our prices are so often your early auction prices. Even the 10 is about 50% more in the states, but I can't find the 10 online anymore.
