The Pharaoh manual's history of Egypt was something I read again and again when I was six. It got me into history. I fell in love with artifacts, archeology, and the study of history. Now I have a Masters of Museum Studies and work at a museum handling artifacts and displaying them. To say the original game helped shaped the course of my life is an understatement.
Now if we could get the rest of the Sierra/Impressions city builders remade, I'd be in heaven. All of them were hours and hours of fun, each in their own way. If they only do the one - it's great, Pharaoh was my favorite, but Emperor with it's multiplayer feature could be a big win these days.
Yeah Rise of the Middle Kingdom is a must always loved whenever the Chinese New Year came around watching the Festival Dragons going around the city!!!
Same here but for me it was Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom and I used to watch my brother play since I was little and we would flip our shit when the whole city combusted into flames almost immediately after we built it. XDXDXD
@@d0tdash Not strictly speaking, I don’t think; it looks like the window just shows you where the battle is taking place and allows you to manage the actual combat through it without having to jump all over the city map. I imagine the view will pan and scroll with the movement of the troops; so if the enemy troops move to destroy fortifications, they’ll also show up in the window. So I think fortifications will still serve a purpose.

I'm glad to see an old, great classic, given a new life. I've played the original countless times troug out the years. Last playtrough was not long ago. Yet, the new game as it stands on the video, lacks of polishing compared to its original iteration. PANE, being a product for today's standards, shows menus and UI expecially, lacking that ancient feel as design, fonts as decorations are concerns. Even some buildings lack of some hierogliphics compared to the original. Imo, the game is not ready for release. Considering that the devs basically replicated the existing concepts fromt the original, I was expecting a better refinement for the remake. Sad to see it is not quite there.
I really not into the new UI. The classic impressions UI setup was a staple of the series and it was working quite fine. Some of the updates are good, like game speed controls, and the font was absolutely horrifying, but this UI is simply faceless generic city builder UI.
I'm so hyped to play to Pharaoh: A New Era. I'm going to discover the new gameplay and graphics with impatience. I remember I began to play on Pharaoh in 2001 and I finished the game in 2003.

I have questions about the military, are they now only in the game through buildings and one or the other mission? in the original you could at least see them and send them from A to B, now you can't even see them, what happened to the good old fort? is the navy similarly regulated? i really enjoyed the military aspect, but it seems to have been taken away somehow, how do battles actually take place in the city? if you can't command any soldiers how does the defense work?
Where did you lost minimap? Mouse scrolling is bugged and doesn't work diagonally. Left pane button tooltips sometimes blink but don't stay long enough. The rest is fine and I hope you'll correct these small issues in the future patches
I'm really happy to see this game getting a remaster. I'm still playing the old version till today. But personally didn't like this new UI.. it's just bland, the old had so much more aesthetic. The new buildings looks really great and loved the redesign of the forts, but in contrast, the pedestrians looks horrible, feels like they're from a cheap mobile flash game, bigheaded and with a strange animation.
I'm curious, I see that the visuals are stunningly amazing, were there other major overhauls? Aside from UI, for example, how the pedestrians move within the city?
They implemented the global employment feature from _Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom_ and you get roadblocks right away in Nubt (Mission 1, Predynastic) instead of in Perwadjyt (Mission 3, Predynastic) so you can always control where the walkers go in every mission, and they fixed the Dancer Glitch. On one hand I really hated the former method since it required a lot of micromanaging but at the same time I kind of appreciated how it ended up creating more realistic cities since at the end of the day, someone needs to live next to the clay pits and other "dirty" industries for said industries to work, meaning you will naturally form working class and upper class neighborhoods.
Hi, we added a global worker pool function so as long as your industries have access to a road, they will acquire workers without having to send a recruiter!
Well I guess I will purchase a pc just to be able to play it. I still have my old Pharaoh CD from 1999. I always love this game. However, I will have be nice to have a version for mac users.

I have to be honest. I played the original back in the day and was looking forward. But I don't like the stylization of the graphics which are very cartoony smooth and the ui which is very small. It looks mobile.
This looks like trash, art is terrible, units look too cartoonish, and buildings and ui is terrible, cant believe so many people think this looks good. The original version looks so much better.
As much as I do love most of what this remaster has to offer, the cartoon graphics just rubs me the wrong way. Moving away from the more 'realistic' look of the old Impression's city-builders I think was a bad call.
And they even got feedback about this years ago ... they still haven't listened, i don't know why i even expected them to do something properly when they still haven't patched that bug fest mess " Lethis - Path of Progress " ... 2015 game still with game breaking / crashing issues to this day. My biggest issue with this game is that the walker that looks for workers can’t go past roadblocks. What’s the point of road blocking a neighborhood if you can’t hire people from that neighborhood

@@sheenaielinu6651 I mean, hey, all of the Sierra City Builders should be remastered; I know all of them have a devoted following, but that every fan of them has their own personal favourite(s). _Emperor_ is my personal preference because I’m not too fond of ancient Greece and ancient Rome, nor classical mythology. Here’s hoping they one day get around to all of our favourites in this series. 🙂
@@DarkJediPrincess indeed, fully agreed, I love all of them, and I would like to see a remaster for each one (take my money). As I've started with Zeus I've some preferences for him. And I also think that visually he is under Emperor. But I say it again, I love all the Siera's games, so I don't really care if it's Emperor, Caesar or Zeus first 😁
I hope another studios remasters those, cause these guys are bad, they don't listen to feedback given to them by the fan base for years, they ruined the whole aestetic of the original game with mobile cartoonish style and unproportional population sizes, just play the original game with widescreen patch and you will understand what i'm talking about.
They’re to stop random walkers (like priests, bazaar distributers, firemen, etc.) from going places you don’t want them to go. Onto the flood plains, for example, or outside the neighbourhood they’re meant to serve. Destination walkers (cart pushers, labourers, bazaar buyers, etc.) can still go past them.
I want to play this. In fact I am going to play the old game before of do it. I am not sure of the result of the new battle system. I think that before was more attractive because you had to play with the sea or protect the city to void the enemy destroy your building. Now it looks like a mobile phone game. Who has more units win. However is very hard work and it see very beautiful
I consider it a vast improvement. In the 1999 version you had to pan all over the map to figure out where the invasion force had come in to your territory; it was frustrating as _Hell._ With the window, you don’t have to do that, which for me makes _A New Era_ have a better Quality of Life for its players. Also, why is it looking like a mobile game a bad thing?
@@DarkJediPrincess that isnt true, you received in your messages an alert of attack, and if you pushed it, the game automatically tooks to the place where you were suffering the attack. And why? Because if i want to play a mobile phone game, i play it, i want to play a pc game. I like this pharaon, but i dont like the games that if some mecanic is very difficult for some players they delete it. Now looks that you dont know to think in strategies about the battle, only make units without stop, and the game will win automatically. it is not depends on you. But for me it is not a big problem, because this is a small mechanic of the game, and it has a lot of more different things to do.
@@lucasilloMy mistake; I stand corrected. I disagree with your stance about mobile game-like features in non-mobile games, and that this will eliminate the necessity for strategy, but you have the right to your opinion and I respect that.

What are the red roadblocks again made for?
@@DarkJediPrincess actually the invasion pop-up had a button that let you immediately jump the camera to where it came from. Although maybe it was added with the Cleopatra expansion?
@@Fierce0Deity0Link I have already been reminded of that, thanks.
