I played the original back in the day. Lots of fun early to mid game for me. Late game got to be rather tedious trying to keep everyone happy, fight off invaders, control the flow of workers with roadblocks, etc. Still fun and really enjoyable building things. Especially a pyramid that took forever to build but was satisfying when you finally do.
I hope there are some improvements in the game, not only aesthetics/UI. Those old economy strategies were genius in some aspects and later games with better graphics were worse and more simplistic, like forgetting some mechanics that were already invented. Only there were some serious limitations that were holding back those series - one is load limit and it was really sad you couldn't build giant cities. Other - some flaws in how traffic worked. Basically buildings work and spread effects by worker moving on the road, but it was hard to manage where they are going. Later they added roadblock, so you could restrict movement of some group of workers but still it was ehhh, not great. With improving those most important issues, those series would still be great fun today. With some more improvements and developing some of the concepts, those series still could be easily among best strategy games. After so many years... I've heard about project that is aiming at something like this, not just refreshing old games. I'm looking forward to see the results. But I will also take a look at this refreshed Pharaoh, thank you!
It's still walker based. The only improvement there is that they display spawn and despawn point for walkers when you place or mouse over a building. Walkers are anything but hard to manage even in the original though, once you learn how far they would travel (and spawn points were consistent in the original too, just not displayed). The trick was and still is to make the roads loop on themselves and isolate each loop with roadblocks.
I own both the original and new pharaoh. After May be 10 hours in new era and 2000 hours in original. I still prefer the original. You can still Buy and play it. The new ui is confusing to use and the pop ups will fill the entire screen forcing you to stop play and close them. They removed the military for a auto resolve removing the rts element completely. The remastered music is good at least. The cartoon grafic fade in to the back ground after a while of playing mostly a good remake. But there's no new production lines or mechanics that I am aware of. I do not count settings for global workforce and easyer population make up as new mechanics.
I played this back in 1999 and loved it. The remake looks pretty solid, based on the time I've spent with it so far. I particularly like the way they've improved the music. The original soundtrack was classic. This has many of the same songs, but recorded to a much higher quality on what sound like authentic instruments. I like that. I am also looking forward to more custom maps and mods in the Steam workshop, which will surely take this far beyond anything seen before.
Awesome to hear, Bryden :) it’s crazy to think that it originally came out in 1999! for many, including me, that’s ancient times haha (was six years old)
This is pretty cool. I never played Pharaoh or Emperor, but I did play a lot of Caesar 3 as a kid. Always wanted to try some of the other ones as I never knew about them until I was an adult. I had been keeping on eye on this one for a while now so it's pretty cool that we can finally play it.
Zeus city builder was my favorite one. I hope they remake that one too. It's very similar to this one. But you can raid other cities with your army or contour or demand goods etc
Every road layout in this vid made me want to cry, lol (all those intersections 😵💫). I can't tell yet if the gameplay in A New Era is simplified overall, or is just streamlined so doesn't suffer from the original game's bugs and glitches, but I'm finding it quicker to progress then when I last played the original (which was, like, two weeks ago, I still have the original CD-ROM version). I don't get anyone who slates the graphics as they are really faithful to the original game, but updated for modern monitors. Their complaints just sound unnecessarily negative; go and play the old game if you're that attached to the 720p appearance. I liked the original UI more but I get that it would be considered intrusive by modern standards (it would be nice if devs could add it as an option you could toggle on or off but I don't think we should hold our breath), I would say that it can make placing things at the right edge of the map difficult sometimes. I do miss the mini map and the city rotation functions tho.
i love this game but i wish i could find a map and customize my mission. i wanted to play in complete sandbox mode with no war and stuf where it´s only about growing your city i always get fear when there is a crises about to happen. i like it more relaxed but the mission dont stay before hand, if their will be enemy's forces.
I really dislike the new graphics - it looks like a mobile game. Also the old UI was really charismatic and egyptian themed, it's something you simply don't had in other games while the new design looks like any other. I'd rather play the old game, very disappointed in this remaster. They should've learned from the Diablo II and StarCraft Remaster.
@@AndysTake its just pure immersion, you will actually feel like a governor building a settlement. You should definitely try it out one weekend, I recommend Caesar 3
So many Memories.. back in the day we got this randomly from a friend who bought a magazine containing a game CD, which he borrowed us :D
YES!!!! SO MANY GREAT MEMORIES OF THIS GLORIOUS GAME SO HAPPY TO SEE IT BACK!!!!
Love it! :D

I love Pharaoh, still playing it.
Awesome :)
I bought Pharaoh and Zeus + Poseidon last year because when I was young I used to play it when we had no internet.
Building city in pharaoh without a single roadblocks is a whole new level.

Thank you for the comment! :) Seems like you have a lot of experience with these older titles!

I would have liked the ability to draw a businesses worker path manually. I feel that would allow more customization.

You can put houses 2 rows deep and they form groups of 4. If I remember correctly
I hope this inspires for a Zeus remake . Maybe even adding a third DLC Hades focused
the Nile flooding determines fertility of the grounds, it isn"t an "obstacle"
HOLY SHIT I still have my old DVD of this game but could never get past some of the more infamous glitches.. I will definitely be buying this.

I had played it myself for the original. Though more often then not I would fail with the cities there etc.
Great game I remember I play this game and one about ancient greece master of olympus I believe was its name
Hey hey people, sseth here
yooo sseth in the house

liked Zeus + Poseidon better, i hope they remake it too
I wish they just remade the original UI instead of making this mediocre "modern" UI. Also where is the minimap?
I liked the Caesar games better. I believe they are the same devs that made the stronghold series
Never played the Caesar series! But definitely heard it's good

@@danielc9967 does it have a 1080+ mod/patch or anything?
@@AndysTake not sure, but there is a much modern Caesar 4 which has similar features, just 3D
More fun xd and more bugs, some even game breaking.
The interface is so boring. Advisors menu in old version was an art, and now you have this faceless windows.
It's copy of Nebuchadnezzar game.
Other way around. Nebuchadnezzar copied the Caesar series and its follow ups (Zeus and Pharaoh).
As a veteran player of this game... The city layouts in the video were stressing me tf out lol
