it just looks like a mobile phone game to me still. i don't know why they couldn't have just kept the old style of graphics and cleaned them up a bit. they were way more earthy and detailed.

Yep, original graphics and style are so much better, they just needed a little touch up to get them up to date. I just can't get into the style they used here
I think Pharaoh a New Era is very good. I'm finding I'm able to get farther in this version, than the original version. Using force walkers also seems to help as well keeping my housing blocks fully supplied. This allows me to focus more on being efficient with my planning. One area strictly food production, one area industry and the housing blocks someplace in the middle, etc. Watching Zakh's videos also help as well. Thank you for the content :)
Happy with the fixes and updates they've brought to the game. I'm not holding out on the military battles getting better any time soon, mind... A thing i really miss from the campaign world map is the monuments you've built in previous missions showing by their respective cities. Was a nice feature, seeing how far you've come with construction. Maybe something they'll add in the future, i hope.
In regards to the military battles, I'm actually surprised they are struggling with that aspect. They need to borrow a page or two from the hundreds of auto-battler games that have been released in the past 5 years to see how to get groups of units to combat each other without glitching.
All the changes are nice, but until they fix the military simulation and some other UI bugs it's quite an unfinished game. Removing a feature and replacing it, then having that feature replacement not work even slightly, is just pretty poor. I enjoy the addition of composite bows & shields, but it seems like the chariot is still easily the best unit and you should simply make 6 of them on every map (you can make archers if you're poor). Towers now do nothing except give a stat boost, and walls are pointless. Overall I'm sad to see the RTS combat go, and pretty dissapointed that its replacement doesn't even work. Also, I think the 'timed' missions are not working either, I wasn't timed to build Tut's tomb (took me 120 months I beleive). The devs seem pretty intent on fixing things, I just hope they're given the time and resources to do it (i.e I hope the publisher etc. doesn't decide to pull support).
I used to play the original way back when I was younger and I still love the updated version. I’d spend hours with grid paper designing the perfect layouts for every building😂
Glad to see they are still working hard on the game. I look forward to changing my negative steam review to positive! Trying to change a classic and make it better is difficult but they seem to be dedicated. Thanks @GamerZakh for your great videos!!
We need it on consoles. The only improvement I wanted in the original game was when your Kingdom Standing dropped to zero and the Pharaoh sent his armies every month, was a way to improve the rating even by one by sending more tribute and gifts etc. So instead of complete game over and building 100 police stations, a way back into the game.
Didn't even know this was out until I saw it randomly on Steam.... Will definitely play, loved this game as a kid You know what I'd LOVE to see a remake of? Theocracy. 4x game set in aztec times
How the quality control team let the glitchy combat pass is beyond me. It's not that it happens only sometimes. Either i'm extremely unlucky or the combat glitches on me every time. It's almost as if they don't have one.
It's not always things that get past the quality control team. I have a feeling because of the pandemic the budget was stretched too thin and they were basically forced to release the game. Even on release, there were bugs that the devs said they had already fixed but QA hasn't had time to implement it yet. Even the devs were surprised some bugs were still in the game. It's just a lot of wheels and in a big production no one person really knows everything that's going on.
@@GamerZakh That could be the case then, but what is the excuse now? They keep releasing bugged content. For instance, on this release they implemented tooltips for buildings when you have overlays enabled. For instance, if you have the fire overlay enabled, mousing hover buildings will tell you the likelihood of burning. That is great. Except they don't work. Even when buildings are almost at the point of burning (and are red), it says "the building has no likelihood of catching fire". It's obvious to me that the quality control is either inexistent or incompetent.
@@elkarion Usually I don't consider a department to be inexistent or incompetent. I always default to underfunded. Dotemu and Activision are the publishers, they decide who gets paid to do what. Quality control department could literally be one person and it's not up to that person whether more people get hired. But it could be underfunded simply because there is no more money. So what do you do? Fair pay is $2500 a month, that's about 200 copies of the game sold on Steam for 1 person's salary for a single month.
@@GamerZakh Fair point, but if they keep releasing content with more bugs than the ones they solve, I'm not seeing a bright future for this game under the circumstances (being incompetence or underfunding). For instance, i found a new bug that came along with the new features. It seems that if you turn off some notifications, you still get the popup sounds (even though they are disabled entirely). I get it this could be as intended, but half the annoyance of the popups was the constant "puff" sound they made. Hopefully, since the game is made with Unity and you can see (and edit) the code using something like dnSpy, it will give a boost on the development of Ozymandias by allowing anyone to understanding the inner works of the game. The project seems to be dormant, but who knows? One can only dream. Maybe someone will pick it up and fork it.
@@elkarion Yeah that sounds intended, it's how it works in Augustus too but I think many find the sound in ANE more annoying than the C3 sound. For Ozymandias, no one is going to touch that for a while. These games are owned by Activision. If they get even a little bit upset they'll sue everyone into the ground. Augustus can continue because it's not competing with a new product, but Ozymandias would tangibly reduce ANE sales.
Haven't gotten in to see all this myself yet, but thanks for the overview Zakh! While part of me misses the battles of OG Pharaoh, I find easier with the "current" system and hopefully, the upcoming revamp will be something.
I think PANE is great!! I've been playing on normal since the last patch and really haven't encountered any problems. Most of the problems have been my not figuring out the mechanics of the game play when, once understood, made it possible for me to finish the game. I've been playing the games through the mission menu and have completed through the Valley of the Kings. It's so nice to have the workers and walkers getting to where they are supposed to be (unlike old Pharaoh) without glitchy stuff happening -- especially when building elite housing. These sound like great improvements -- I especially like the idea of being able to disable buildings when you need to temporarily change things. Personally the military doesn't matter to me.... I like the fact that you don't have to go move your troops somewhere to fight a battle... but that's just me --- I'm in it for the building :). To all you "haters" out there just waiting for military fixes: you're missing out on a wonderful game that really honors the history of Egypt. YOUR LOSS. Thanks for explaining all of this, Zakh. Looking forward to when you will be playing Pharaoh live again.
ok until 11:00 I thought it is just a garbage cartoon version of the game, but that part.... I don't know what goes below garbage. Let's just say I have the original game installed and this video at least made me feel nostalgic and replay some of the missions :D
Nice QoL update, I don't mind the new military system though, just hope there's gonna be an option for the old or simplified version (or straight up bribe invaders like Zeus lol). But man still no map rotation ? That sucks....
Map rotation isn’t going to be in pharaoh ane, and really, you don’t even need it with the flat mode improvements. Rotating the map actually caused some bugs / weirdness with walker spawn and despawn points in OG Pharaoh, so i don’t mind that its not there in the game.
Military is the main thing in this game When i played Caeser or pharaoh or any game like that for the military missions the fun the challenge and speed to rush military and strategies your defense and also attach other cities those things are matters and if they invested on them this game will be the best
It's great that the devs are taking feedback to heart and making all these fixes and updates. I think when military is fixed, this should be a solid 4/5 game. As it is right now, I feel like there isn't even a point playing the 'military' path of the game.
I'm playing this game since it came out and it is nice to come along this journey of steady improvement. Of course they were situations when I was a bit frustrated about these bugs too... but hey, they are doing a good job and keep listening to the Players, in my opinion they are doing really great work! And to be honest, nearly nothing is perfect from the scratch... and everyone is free to get back to the good old OG Pharaoh. Thanks Zakh for the video :)
the game was "good" since the very first day it launched, was buggy, but I loved ♥ it. now it's only getting better and better. (still at least one achivement seems broken).
Yes! Playing it since it came out and it is nice to come along this journey of steady improvement. Of course they were situations when I was a bit frustrated too... but hey, they are doing their best and listening to the Players, in my opinion they are doing really great work!
I'm ok with the stuff they added and don't have a huge problem with the visuals. I can't get over having no military functionality though, it's too big a part of the game. I don't see myself playing this over original Pharaoh (which I keep going back to now and then). It's baffling that they webt through so much trouble to nail the remade functionality and then just stopped and didn't implement half the game. I didn't need all those QoL features or the new graphics, but I do need that half of the game. A shame.
I think the main thing with this is that it's still in development like Augustus. There are still problems, but problems in the original 1999 version will never be fixed while they could be fixed here.
@@GamerZakh I wasn't criticising it as such, but the things like the column overlays and even the overlay types (entertainment etc.) all seems extremely C3A with different building types and a different UI. The core systems (mostly) appear to be very similar. Walkers etc. Again, not a complaint as such, but a note. And yes I know the originals were done by the same original studio/team(?)
People were complaining that it wasn't good? I see it as good as the original, although I understand that may be a problem, as it has exactly the same gameplay. A lot has changed since then and we demand more from a video game.
I think the latest patch really improves the gameplay. Really curious about the development for the military stuff. I always find the military in OG less smooth compared to C3. Would be nice if you can manage your army in the current battlescreen, but probably difficult to make use of your towers and walls. Bottom line PANE is awesome!
It's always been good but the bugs kept it from becoming great. Definitely going to push through the campaign now that the game seems really well fixed.
Military is the worst part of original pharaoh, while I wish there was a better system I'm also happy not having to deal with a copy of the original system.
All the changes look great. It does ppear to be more playable. Which means no excuse foryou not uploading more missions. o_O One QOL change I would like to see is with the new notifications... ON the pop-up notifications I would like to have tick boxes (or sliders, or something) to set the same notification setting I can access on the notifications tab. I don't want to have 3 notifications pop-up and after I dismiss them have to go to the tab and try to remember which ones they were to modify them. (Obviously once you hide them, you have to go to the notifications tab to unhide them.)
My biggest gripe with the remake is that it, just... looks bad. The graphical style is just worse than the original - from 1999.. even the color saturation feels off. The game just doesn't have the same visual atmosphere and pleasing look as the original. Lots of other QOL improvements and fixes, sure, but also the complete removal of the RTS combat on the other hand. If i were to replay Pharaoh again, I'd stick with the original.
It is becoming playable, yes... I was so frustrated with it for a while. Now I figured how the culture index mechanics works and it's better, and the new patches are nice. I'm not really bothered by the military mechanics, but I prerfectly understand those who hate it... a huge chunck of the original game is missing without it. Now the only thing that's really bothering me now is optmization... The game still demands too much of the system and freezes a lot, specially on the menus. I hope that will get better with time. I have a decent setup... it shouldn't demand that much from it!
Hi, can you help me with Men Nefer stuck in? I did every goal that is possibly with high point of culture (15), prosperity (50), kingdom (46), monument (0 should be 5). There are more than enough chickpees, beers, pottery. ReIigiosity and entertainment are excellent. Sent many beers to another city and I gave 2000 bricks. I am in -2500 debens (so in debt), but I switched the tax from 9 to 10%, so my debt is decreasing. People are happy, full everything. Years are going and nothing changes. The problem is: reed gathering and papyrus making is still locked. School still locked. Trading map is still locked. Bricklayering and Mastaba building still locked. Another city start to ask me some papyrus that I can't create, because is still locked. All house are in modest apartament status, I think it's because no school for next step. What should I do?
I forgot the courthouse put next to houses. I used police stations against the crime around the houses... Everithing it's fine now. I could finish this mission.
How much is the soundtrack changed? I never get why music is changed in the remastered games. The soundtrack is the most nostalgic feeling and needs no update.
These are all good little quality of life improvements, but I don’t really see anything that makes a big difference to me. I LOVE this game and have played it over 100 hours now, but it’s still missing a few things to make it the amazing game I think it can be. I’m a huge fan of the og game, but I enjoy playing through this version more now besides a few small things. This version is much easier and less frustrating to casually play through and I really appreciate that. I haven’t played it much since Zelda came out but the issues I remember most are: 1) The military. It’s the giant glaring issue with the game, and idk exactly what the fix is, but they MUST do something about it to make the game complete. Either use the old system or fix the system it has now, this current system is just awful and so uninspired feeling. I never liked the og Pharaoh system AT ALL, but this is somehow worse. 2) More often than not, my trading partners would be glitchy saying I could buy/sell an item but the city that trades it isn’t actually open on the map. This update hopefully fixed that issue tho. 3) In the later story missions, especially in Cleopatra, when you build a city that is supposed to have things that carry on to the next mission, it doesn’t work. Honestly, the Cleopatra missions seem to have gotten much less attention overall and many things don’t quite work right in them. I don’t recall if any of the plagues of Egypt worked properly or at all in my games. 4) The wildlife can’t be killed by towers or troops/police so the only option is to build walls around them but sometimes the terrain doesn’t allow that either. 5) I miss the cutscenes between each era. I know making new ones would be a big undertaking but the fact that there’s nothing makes it feel like less of an accomplishment to complete an era and the game loses some of its character without those little scenes between them. Hell I’d be happy if they just put the original ones in. Having nothing happen at the end of the last mission was such a letdown. I haven’t quite finished the Cleopatra missions but I assume there’s nothing at the end of that either. There should always be something cool at the end of a game that leaves you feeling accomplished. I really hope they keep working on the game long enough to make it what it can be, but I do really like it even with some flaws. The original game definitely had some flaws as well, but it had so much charm that it made up for most of them.
My guess is that they ran out of budget and were forced to release. It's been about 4 months since release and only now most bugs are getting fixed. I think it just needed another 6 months at least.
Im on my second play through doing all those campaigns that i skipped and finishing achievements. Im enjoying the game little bugs dont faze me i figured out playing around them
There's a lot of gameplay changes, military has also been stripped down, which some people love and some people hate. It having about 70% positive right now feels accurate to the ratio of people who would like this.
Thanks for the update. I can't find anything regarding the option to open a trade route while going into debt. Is this finally fixed now? I'm currently too lazy to check. I hope the city-wide industry toggle is now actually WORKING. I didn't know that it also didn't even save xD
Military was the aspect showing me its better to hold off. Triskel hasn't put out any good game as of now. So my expectations were already 'sceptical'. But when I heard that they replaced military with a bad auto combat window, it went into the "buy for 5 max". A developer not understanding how to perform a middle solution is useless and they clearly lack the expertise considering Lethis also never had military. People disliked Pharaos military because it wasn't modern and had issues, but then you fix these issues, you don't scrap it entirely and replace it with the worst a designer can come up with (basically a gif popup). The way they handled that mechanic told me, that the studio bit off more than they could chew. They aren't good enough a studio and lack the expertise to develop this game well. They should have stayed with Lethis 2 and gain experience. But lets be frank, Pharao was their last chance because their studio was on the brink of bankruptcy. Yet, even a bad Pharao will sell well. Maybe they bought their studio some time to stay in business longer but if they keep the mixed quality, then it's just a matter of time.
Hey thanks for the feedback and for being nice about it! I don't mind downvotes. What about the title did you feel was click-baity? Just the style? Did you feel misled?
Was going great the first 2 missions, but then the whole screen started flickering. Wasn't anything wrong with my laptop it was really just during the game. :(
Teached me the lesson of newer buying at release. I basically played through a bad version of the game and the improvements are very nice , but not enough to make me play it again. Maybe sometimes in the future , but for now i am a bit angry with the game.
Still not worth it. I played this game (the original, that is) from the year 2000 and I still have good memories of it (despote a lot of boredom memories from missions like giza), I had great expectations for this, specially after I found out about the popularity renewal of aoe2 with the DE and all, but this totally hasn't lived up to my expectations from all I've seen. I even had this on my wish list and waited for its release for a couple of years, but the finished game, and particularly the "combat" solution they brought with it, not satisfactory IMO.
I can't get past the mobile cartoony art, it looks awful. The old game looked realistic, it still looks better than the new game. Reminds me of Civ 5 and Civ 6 where the graphics underwent a downgrade because it's less work for the developers to add details to objects and make them realistic.
Civ 5 to Civ 6 was not less work for the developers. That's a misconception, just because an art style is brighter and more colourful, it doesn't reduce workload for artists and designers. Source: I am a qualified designer who worked in the industry for years.
Still no hands on military in the map, meaning I still won't buy it.. The only thing it has over the original for me is, global worker pool. And while I loathe the recruiters in the original, that one thing is not enough for me to get this new one.
There are still too many bugs in a game to recommend it. Latest one I've encountered is the large pyramid in the scenario Hetepsenusret. The workers continue to get stuck. I had to restart the pyramid once. Then it happened again this time when I saved the game and came back the stuck worker was gone. There just isn't enough building choices in the game as well they added a Zoo Whoopie... There's just not enough variety of buildings and work for your extra workers. Makes game very boring
They planned to just remake the original, but also you might be thinking of the new Total War game called Pharaoh? It's real confusing now haha. The problem with this one is that it does feel like they were forced to release 6-9 months too early. At this point, almost all gameplay bugs are fixed, but there are still visual/audio/message bugs. Also military is minimal at this point, no RTS, which some people like and other people hate, but they did say they want to redo the military but I'd only expect that next year.
On the forum I wrote my hopes for the game te become better that the first part and im banned forever. Weird dev....has some personal issues. So no buy for me
I've read the forums, people were never banned for just sharing their hopes. People who were banned got toxic or hostile. Could you share your post that got you banned? Being banned doesn't mean your message disappears. What's your username on the forum? If you truly were banned for just sharing hopes, I'd make a video on it.
Ah I was hoping you would reply so I can make a video calling out the developers. People keep saying they banned for things like this but every time I ask for proof they stop replying.
Is it the video or does this remake indeed looks more blurry? As shown in this video, it will not be my cup of tea. Hopefully it is the video, and not the actual image quality ingame.
All videos don't look as good as a game actually is. Uncompressed videos are hundreds of gigs in size. Have a look at the screenshots on the Steam page and see if you prefer that.
GAME DEVS: These updates are good, but you NEED to get the MILITARY fixed before most of us consider buying the game. You see, the OG Pharaoh was already a near perfect game on lower difficulties. When I see this video, I yearn for the OG Pharaoh only. You can reduce the enemy soldiers' strength and can let them have double the numbers. That'll keep it difficult, but playable and exciting
Meh. I don't see how is this update significant whatsoever. None of these were an issue for me. I don't need zoom up or flating single buildings. I haven't had problems with finishing missions. I don't care about clouds. I need better military. It is good as it was. But it won't be any better until they bring the old military system back... Or at least meake it any meaningful again.

To me, purely subjective and personal opinion: no, it looks stupid, game mechanics are dumbed down, military completely let down, it's a downgrade from the original game. The main thing it does, like most new "remasters" is give out tons of HUD/gameplay options, even perhaps a bit too much.

Will definitely play, loved this game as a kid
You know what I'd LOVE to see a remake of?
You don't experience the full satisfaction from building a great city until you get the chance to actually stand and defend it.
@@alhena11 good point. I just find this form of military easier to manage.
such dedicated video, going through each changes one by one
ok until 11:00 I thought it is just a garbage cartoon version of the game, but that part....
Military is the main thing in this game
When i played Caeser or pharaoh or any game like that for the military missions the fun the challenge and speed to rush military and strategies your defense and also attach other cities those things are matters and if they invested on them this game will be the best
@@Kaazzaam88 true, but nonetheless they should release finished game, or tag it "early access".
A shame.
Really enjoy your videos. I always learn something, the main lesson I've learned though is that I have no idea how to play this game 🤷😂
A truly pharaonic patch.
This was my favorite game back in the day still play the origional
This looks more and more like Ceasar 3 Augustus (not the game details but the overlay, the dynamics, the systems in place)
I would like the old combat system to come back like in the original game
i'll get ANE once the military is fixed or improved...
I wont play it until military invasion are like original game. I hate this actual system like ceasar
Military is the worst part of original pharaoh, while I wish there was a better system I'm also happy not having to deal with a copy of the original system.
@@attrition0 They should have just improved on the original RTS combat instead of removing it completely.
@Adam W I'd have liked an improved system yes.
Should make the game for mobile phones
All the changes look great. It does ppear to be more playable. Which means no excuse foryou not uploading more missions. o_O
One QOL change I would like to see is with the new notifications...
You still cant controll the troops movement like old game
Until the military is fixed and is akin to the original (albeit hopefully less buggy than the original) then no.
I love this. Thanks for sharing
How much is the soundtrack changed? I never get why music is changed in the remastered games. The soundtrack is the most nostalgic feeling and needs no update.
I'm loving it currently!
Woah, I didn't know a new Pharaoh was out.
I haven’t played it much since Zelda came out but the issues I remember most are:
1) The military.
Use paragraphs.
@@ZenAndPsychedelicHealingCenter No.
LOL how did the game release with that combat animation?
My guess is that they ran out of budget and were forced to release. It's been about 4 months since release and only now most bugs are getting fixed. I think it just needed another 6 months at least.
Im on my second play through doing all those campaigns that i skipped and finishing achievements. Im enjoying the game little bugs dont faze me i figured out playing around them
I am very surprised how little the graphics have improved over the original game. Are there major gameplay changes from the original?
There's a lot of gameplay changes, military has also been stripped down, which some people love and some people hate. It having about 70% positive right now feels accurate to the ratio of people who would like this.
Hmm might have to buy this now. Been on the fence about it.
Thanks for the update. I can't find anything regarding the option to open a trade route while going into debt. Is this finally fixed now? I'm currently too lazy to check. I hope the city-wide industry toggle is now actually WORKING. I didn't know that it also didn't even save xD
Oh yeah they fixed the opening trade route and debt problem.
Thanks for the video. Note that I downvoted it for the click-bait title, but all in all, I appreciate it.
Hey thanks for the feedback and for being nice about it! I don't mind downvotes. What about the title did you feel was click-baity? Just the style? Did you feel misled?
Zakh, does the new version has the editor part of the old version, I love to create my own senarios!
Is there a good review for those who haven’t played this game before?
Was going great the first 2 missions, but then the whole screen started flickering. Wasn't anything wrong with my laptop it was really just during the game. :(
Hmm what you can try is changing the fps in the settings. Try setting it up to 120 or limiting it to 60, that usually solves flickering issues.
Epic introduction, haha
I lowkey forgot this game existed lol
Wonder abput Totalwar Pharaoh comparison ? Nextgen rts, more war of civ like ? Total War series more battle like !
09:46
LOL IM DYING 😂😂😂
They fixed top sending workers from work camps to farms. When new video? 😅
Haha got a bunch of Caesar 3 to play, but then back into Pharaoh.
hi zakh
i see in the new pharaoh there is now a mission editor, now i'm wondering what else is new?
I'll try checking it all out soon.
“They were supposed to drown”
Look at this point why doesn’t this company just get creative assembly to make a total war part for the battles. now you have the city and the war.
Generally any question like that boils down to a simple thing, who pays the money for that? Haha
I must had it wrong at first because I thought they were doing a new modern Pharao game...
I like those changes a lot!
I hope they remake Caesar 3
From where do I download and install this game?
They make military even worse than in original game... great... great.
Meh.
I don't see how is this update significant whatsoever. None of these were an issue for me. I don't need zoom up or flating single buildings. I haven't had problems with finishing missions. I don't care about clouds.
I need better military.
It is good as it was. But it won't be any better until they bring the old military system back... Or at least meake it any meaningful again.
i just bought game yes day its great
I would buy it, if it wasn't for mobile game graphics... really ruins it for me...
They need to make real combat. Not a glitchy simulation. Like the original. I'm not reinstalling the game until that's fixed.
Are they going to be fixing combat?
No
Hello from Russia !! Zakh you norm strimmer! Молорик Бро!! Так держать!! ;))
what the hell is that combat? the original game was much better and I don't see a reason to play this version that has taken such liberties
Hey, it have Cleaopatra DLC in it?
Yes it includes Cleopatra maps and content.
@@GamerZakh so nice! It have ability to build army & have Gods that attack cities & enemy armies with God's that attack your city, like Zues God Of Olimp have it?
Clint eastwood agrees
Does this update also include Cleopatra also?
Yes Cleopatra maps and stuff are in this game.
I still cant get along with the artstyle change, it just looks like a cheap moba 😢
I really don’t like the art style. So off putting 🙁
Is it me or does the game look more cartoony..
It does look more cartoony, you can compare with the original which is also still available to buy.
No Wars... its boring... i liked to destroy another cities or mine...
What is this?.. this is just another game with some Pharaoh on it... Its like.. make the game better, dont take away stuff.. what is that map on the lower left corner... uff... I wanted to play this game, and I will.. but the old version..
Go Malaysia
To me, purely subjective and personal opinion: no, it looks stupid, game mechanics are dumbed down, military completely let down, it's a downgrade from the original game. The main thing it does, like most new "remasters" is give out tons of HUD/gameplay options, even perhaps a bit too much.
Yea not sure why they reduce feature set, so far I'm not convinced to spend time with this game
All the mechanics except military are the same as original, wtf are you talking about?
UI animations are super annoying, I wish you could turn them off
