Dude just because DGK fell out of the mainstream doesn’t mean they still aren’t around. there is any army of skaters that still support it. it hasn’t fallen
As someone who skates and lives right outside Philly DGK is still very popular and big in the city. They keep adding new pros and a few of them are skating Muni every day. And when you go in places like Zumiez or look at a CCS catalog they always have lots of DGK stuff for sale. I also see a bunch of people skating their decks as well as bumper stickers on cars and what not. Maybe it’s just a region thing and a Philly thing these days but is very much still popular in my neck of the woods. So if you’re wondering what happened to DGK then just go to Center City Philadelphia and go to the Muni park and a bunch of them are there skating every day all day. Because that’s what they do skate Street
We got my husband a DGK shirt for Xmas. He mentioned how he missed the brand. Glad to hear the guys are still skating. I enjoyed your video very much. Thank you.
DGK is a Skateboard company first and foremost that also made clothing apparel. DGK is still going strong in the skate industry. If you don't skate..you don't relate.
Found the lugz video first now this, had to subscribe. Finally a channel with topics that interest me as told in a manner that I can relate too. Thanks my brotha.
In my opinion & from what Ive noticed, skate brands come & go when it comes to trends. Some good examples would be DC & Adio shoes & how popular they were in the early to mid 2000s, all the way up to about 2010 before the trend finally fell off. These shoes were very much popular with teenagers & young adults, whether they skateboarded or not. The ones who did skate criticized the ones who didnt & were labeled "Posers." The same can be said for Vans. DGK is still quite popular amongst skateboarders, along with DC & Vans
DGK's art direction was amazing from 2002 up until about 2015. Not sure what changed but the graphics are not the same and don't seem as well thought out. Some of the best graphics were the Stevie American Flag Deck, the collab with painter Eric Bailey, the F'd Up Ghetto Kids, I LOVE HATERS, and tons more. Most of the clothing and boards you showed were recent releases, if you look back on some of the older graphics it's a completely different brand. There was also a DGK/Rbk tour video that was never released with about 40 minutes of team footage. It leaked on line a few years ago and was removed. Also a few errors in the video: Stevie was not in The Hot Chocolate video Evan Hernandez didn't ride for DGK/RBK but I think he did get boards from DGK The distribution is pronounced KAYO (K0, as in Knockout).
Yea i noticed dgk switched up their art direction. They started ripping off designer brands by doing their own version of the gucci green/red stripes in their prodcuts as an example
They may have had a graphic designer create that design & with that he may have been entitled to certain rights within the agreed upon deal. He/She may no longer produce designs or work with Kayo Corp so therefore the design is no longer being produced.
That's not what happened at all. They saturated the market with those same designs and made them lame. Then Stevie tried that yacht club bs and the brand got even weaker.
Reminds me of them early IG days and ppl wearing obey. Dgk been trying to emulate designer brand designs now, doing their own version of the LV monogram or gucci stripes
This was so cool bro! I have an idea! Would be cool to make a video about the G-Shock watches and there association with Hip Hop and the rappers. I don't know if you have such a video, just subscribed! I'm watching all the videos one after another! ✌😉❤
I used to wear DGK back then, when DGK go mainstream I stop Wearing it because i feel like everyone wearing it. now i can buy it again since its not overated again :)
They never fell off in terms of a skate brand but in the streetwear realm yea. Could add that they never did the hype and limited release marketing tactic which is how alot of street wear brands become successful. Dgk is in zumiez and many skate stores all over so
DGK fell the minute the Reebok deal ended. Them kicks were the saving grace on an era were the only thing on skateshops were Vans and the few core skate shoe brands left. But since they were basically ripping off Vans just to survive, what was the point? The only thing that came between Reebok x DGK was, of course, Nike SB. But since heads were massive nerds, they were only interested in sneakers that had pop culture references on them, or had a big name doing a collab with them. And sadly, Reebok x DGK had none of it. Same thing happened with Reebok x Pharrell Williams' Ice Cream. But that's another story, for another time.
I heard that the RBK deal fell through because Reebok only wanted Stevie and not the rest of his team. Also the RBK line as a whole was killed which I think was a mistake for Reebok. I also think they should have just made a Reebok Classic Skate Team and not put DGK on it. They could have had so many more riders and styles to appeal to more people, Jack Curtin also said this on the Nine Club. Those shoes were sick though. Still have a pair in my closet.
Outside of DGK In the marijuana industry DGK was huge , there is another brand that made clothing that was the same as well I can't remember the name? LRG I think it was
I bought my boyfriend back in 2008 the shirt “what recession?” Because he sold weed back then in high school 😂. We’re still together…just rock different brands now.
Not gonna lie, I kinda thought they fell off too but I guess that's streetwear, it goes in cycles, no brand is cool forever. They were a skate brand first and foremost and still are so I guess they still doing well and staying true to what they stand for.
Men I was just bored and I remember as a kid I use to like DGK I was asking my self what happened to it and with Steven Fernandez and diamond supply those things went out of my existing for minute but I see is still Alive and ima bring it back to he’s popularly they were good as brands
Growing up black in SoCal I always thought skateboarding was the unclaimed element of hiphop. The only sports that were considered predominantly white were motorsports and snowboarding. And rollerblading is for nerds lol.
Streetwear came from skate rap and punk rock. I wasn’t saying it’s streetwear like say the hundreds or something, but it’s definitely in the Streetwear family
I said all that in the video, they are not dead and some of the stuff still looks good. They just don’t have the public attention they used to, which is not necessary a bad thing

DGK wasn’t a “streetwear brand” created by pro skaters. It’s a skate company and still going strong.

Hey Howdy from NOLA..!! Still rock about 6 DGK Hats and Tees to this day!!
What did happen to I love haters? Why did they stop making those designs do you know? Everyone loved them and I’m sure they’d still be popping

We used to be tagging buddies!lol🤣
NOPE. Right off the bat, you call it a “Streetwear brand” which it’s not.
It’s a skateboarding brand, pure to our culture.
That’s kinda one in the same, streetwear was heavily influenced by skateboarding
I still rock DGK 2024 my favorite sweater is pinky from Friday ! dgK all day

It's a skate company foremost not really a street wear company. All skate gear is street wear. Its just evolved into hype stuff for non riders.
Not gonna lie, I kinda thought they fell off too but I guess that's streetwear, it goes in cycles, no brand is cool forever. They were a skate brand first and foremost and still are so I guess they still doing well and staying true to what they stand for.
Yeah they stayed true to what they did. They road the hype wave and when it died they carried on with their core fans. Hats off, DGK all day.
