The Air Max 90 about 20 years ago was the dope person shoe. Something you haven't touched on, but I think is the "reason" why these shoes became popular with crime-related people, it's the cost. £110 is a lot of money for someone living in "poverty", and you could only afford them if you were doing some sort of crime. Signalling to others that your illegal income was high. Have you guys experienced anything similar in your countries? I think this is amazing and fascinating. Thanks for the video!
The Amsterdam Air Max 1s don't show a windmill. Its the layout of the canals in Amsterdam's center (clearly recognizable if you look at a map of Amsterdam). The canals are seen as Amsterdam's defining feature as opposed to other cities in western Europe.

@NachoAverageFinds lol I like the 98s over the 97s. I was 15 when the 95s came out at the time there was no running shoe like that, please correct me if I'm wrong about that. But everything about the shoe was amazing at that time, from the color, the design, and the forefront cushion. Of course at that time I didn't know he designed them from the love of human anatomy. I remember the first time I actually saw them was on New York Undercover (great show) lol, it was freddo star from onyx who made a guess appearance and had those shoes on. I was like yooo what are those lol. Also brother love your videos keep them coming man💪👍🤟✌️ much love from Wash; DC aka da Foamposite City lol. Been wearing 95's since i started making money as a teenager. Getting a pair was the same as buying ya first set of gold teeth when you make something for yaself
110s are classic, wouldn’t say it’s a gang shoe, just popular amongst working class youths from the big cities, we all had them in school back in the late 90s.
It's a way of Life, air max 90, 95, then the air max plus TN was my path of initiation, I've got about 30 pairs in daily rotation now And i don't regret a single thing !
0:04 as a graffiti writer from the Pacific Northwest born in 1980, I completely understand why. The Air Max 95s came out at the apex of the golden era, and not just for hip hop, but for Gen X street culture in general. Not only did the shoe look trendy, but it was utilitarian. Every tagger on the block had a pair of 95s rocks with Polo khakis and coordinating sweatshirts. Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Air Max, Timberlands, Polo, DK, Eddie Bauer, REI, KAVU, Arcy, Northface, Spyder, Columbia, LL Bean, these are the brands that got us through living on the streets and hustling everyday just to eat.
Great video, and you're totally right about TN in France, reason why I first hesitated to buy some at the time, I finally did, comfortable/lightweight shoe, wearable even when it's raining, which makes it a good choice here. Problem, probably due to wearing them even when it rains, is the sole comes off after some time, there's also the plastic toe box that is easy to scratch, and ankle support is not great according on what you walk. 95's have a great ankle support, no matter what you walk on, but the weight is not light at all and due to some stylish materials, the shoe doesn't like rain that much... I have to admit since some time now I'm rather rocking simple running Nike shoes, lightweight, not bad ankle support, low cost, simple, quite perfect in fact. As you said, Air Max is more about lifestyle than performance...
It was the new school year for 1988 and a kid had a pair and I've been a diehard Nike Air Max fan ever since. My personal all-time favorite shoe.Putting on a new pair is unlike anything else. You can rock these with anything and wear them all day every day.
I'm English and I grew up pre-grime music in the drum n bass rave scene in the 90s and me and my mates all wear Air Max mainly classics and 110s I did breafly wear shox but haven't worn any other trainer since I was a school and had some Fila boots
I’m for real looking to get to London; (USA) I swear I have that exact shoe in that exact color ready to go! Blue and Gray as well. Thanks for the Heads Up. I always check the “Rules” before I go anywhere outside of my area.
Can't wait for the Big Bubble Neon 95s later this year (despite lacking the PSI marking on the bubble and the neon not looking close)! Making those my first 95s! Hoping the polyurethane midsole is ok on those for comfort!
Here in Casablanca, Morocco the Air Max 95 was indeed linked to street gangs and bad boys who were either doing or selling drugs but they were also worn by middle and upper class nice boys. When I was a kid around 96 -97 I was really attracted and crazy about them along with the Uptempo AIR and CB94. Now Im 39 years and I finally managed to get me a pair of Air Penny’s along with a 95 Ultra and a Pippen Air. My delayed kid’s dream got finally fulfilled lol
as an australian yes, the most common eshay sign is tns combined with either a hoodie, striped shirt or puffer jacket and a slumped over posture. Nearly all eshays wear tns
In Italy they are also very popular models and have always been, ever since they came out on the market. Nike also released a pair of Air Max Plus in the colorway of Napoli, an Italian city/soccer team. Greetings from Italy, ciao-ciao!
Never been that much of a fan of TN’s although they do look comfortable. When I was growing up during the 90s Reebok Classics tended to be popular with burglars. They made little noise and were comfortably cushioned (great for jumping out of windows). I like them for obviously different reasons.
a litte add on to the TN style Mercedes at 8:20 thats a rapper from Germanys Rapcrew 187 Straßenbande they rap alot about TN's which are called "Haifisch Nike's" in Germany (Shark Nikes). The rapper in the Picture is called LX. The 187 is a huge success with multiple Gold and Platinum records.
Video is great but is missing a few key details. Air Max has been so popular in the UK doesn’t just come from grime culture but it comes from football. The same people who are wearing Adidas originals and going to games in for terrece attire grew up and had kids those kids so Adidas as an old man brand people didn’t really want to wear originals anymore because they associated with old men and around this time ,the 90s, Nike was making a decent splash football and the athlete signed of Nike would wear air maxes to team practices or anything that’s not on the pitch. as well because of how air maxes were built constructed they were a lot better for the grimey weather in the UK and were comfortable enough to walk the streets in and dance in a rave. This take is gonna be very controversial but Liverpool was the city to 1st embrace the am 95 and I feel like the association between crime and 110s comes from the fact the negative stigma people have towards scousers.
@ oh yeah i saw that part- i wrote my dictation about a sneaker culture for my bachelors degree so not only is it fresh in my mind but im finding ways to share my findings, the video was great man always
My brothers were part of the "terrace culture" of the 80s. The change in looks from 70's to 80's is mad. By the latter you needed to look good when going the football. Adidas was THE requirement. Nike was around but not like now. I'm 52 so find which Nike represents which group highly amusing.
If you see guys wearing puffers and black 95s or AF1s your in the wrong postcode. If the toe boxes are creased, then they're used to running and cheffing people so you should just run them whatever is in your pockets
How’s things… I’ve been absent on the group for some time (need to get back on there) I really liked this video. Air Max’s are also common in the UK Hardcore scene, especially London. I really wish I had picked up the FP 110’s . TN’s were/are massive in the rave scene here… jungle and garage, that then went onto grime.
They're really big here in Germany as well, the picture of the Mercedes with the tn like painting on it was in fact a collaboration between a really big rap group and Nike, cause the tn is basically the ultimate symbol of being "from the streets" here.
Air Max was popular in the 90s in Serbia because it was a status symbol, costed like a few average monthly salaries, and only criminals could afford it along with tracksuits; it is called "diesel" culture. It reemerged in the second half of 2000s when hooligan culture blended with the diesel; everybody wanted to be seen as tough, mostly wearing fake Air Maxes from the flea market because they couldn't afford original. Nowadays it's Nike Air Forces, Air Jordan 1s, even Air More Uptempos were popular with normies, but tough kids are loving Air Max Plus (TN) and 97s.
If you think Corteiz drops are crazy, you haven't heard of Poser London. They're super underground and it's almost impossible to get your hands on their clothing items (being baggy jeans and joggers). If you have these people will probably come up to you sometimes asking about them if ykyk
День тому
Something also worth mentioning is that air max trainers aren't solely gang related, it's more council estates related. For decades air max's have been a part of the subculture of council estates and generally anything sporty by the big three i.e Nike, Adidas and Puma are eaten up by council estate youth. If the clothing is comfy, flexible and sporty, then it'll be bought and if the trainers are comfy, aimed for running and look cool, then it'll be bought. Thus the airmax was intertwined into council estate subculture. Been the case for some time too. It's why there is a renowned joke about young adults on council estates, along with parents using most of their universal credit buying £100+ trainers for themselves/their child.
11:18, me i live in belgium. I would say if you live inside europe, air maxes are just a fashion piece that looks insanely good because of how different they look compared to regular shoes. Everybody here love's air maxes doesnt matter which one it is.

In Australia TNs were formally known as Esh shoes, but nowadays, every jim and joel wears it because of its trend during the "Australian Drill" scene from 2018 onwards. Asics, like proper asic colourways and early models like Sendai, Kinseis, Kayanos, and Nimbus, were known as Crim Shoes. Only those who were incarcerated wore Asics back before it became a trend. Nobody wore none of these shoes because of its ties to being up to no good. But also Asics had a "dad shoe" look, so only the oldies would be the other ones stepping in em

95 has NOTHING TO DO WITH GANG CULTURE. Its a way of life
Yeah, must be, because they are wickedly uncomfortable.
@@paulovictor3608definitely not uncomfortable for most people. Might just not fit your foot, not saying they’re the most comfortable but they’re perfect winter trainers, keep your feet warm. Look class with some chino shorts in summer if they’re the right colour way too. Just gotta make sure you get the right size and they don’t fit too big and you have to strangle them with the laces, that’s when they look shite
@@Be_MyFriend the OG models are very much uncomfortable when worn for a whole day. The more "premium" iterations are comfortable yes.
Most comfortable shoes I own are 95s
@ConnaWylde I prefer 180s myself
My second favorite shoe of all time behind the Jordan black and white patent leather. IMO the two greatest shows of all time 🔥
95/96 had to be, IMO, the best years of Nike shoes ever
You make a good argument but man how about the 97s!?
Still mad at myself I couldn't get a pair of the DMV Foamposite those things are going for 500 or better now sheesh lol
Yoo my dude, that shirt thoughhhh 🔥
Skate and Destroy my dude
What up Bryan !! Dope video I missed the content keep em coming 😎💯
Salamat Kuya!
Been wearing 95's since i started making money as a teenager. Getting a pair was the same as buying ya first set of gold teeth when you make something for yaself
As Always Thank You 🤲🙏 For You’re New Content 🙏
Appreciate it man
This channel is so fire 🔥
Really appreciate that bro
@ for sure keep it up ✊🏾
we need regular vids from you guys !
Yessir more on the way
110s are classic, wouldn’t say it’s a gang shoe, just popular amongst working class youths from the big cities, we all had them in school back in the late 90s.
It's a way of Life, air max 90, 95, then the air max plus TN was my path of initiation, I've got about 30 pairs in daily rotation now
And i don't regret a single thing !
Slow down there if the fit don't match the shoes you lose gotta coordinate the colors correctly
Be safe haha
Can't wait for the Big Bubble Neon 95s later this year (despite lacking the PSI marking on the bubble and the neon not looking close)! Making those my first 95s! Hoping the polyurethane midsole is ok on those for comfort!
Yessir. I hear they might be a Nike SB drop too
Here in Casablanca, Morocco the Air Max 95 was indeed linked to street gangs and bad boys who were either doing or selling drugs but they were also worn by middle and upper class nice boys.
Good to see you back!!
Props for the YEAH RIGHT! tshirt, what a classic!
Thanks dude. Anyone who skates, skated is my bro 🙏🙏
as an australian yes, the most common eshay sign is tns combined with either a hoodie, striped shirt or puffer jacket and a slumped over posture. Nearly all eshays wear tns
Awesome work, Kuya! Always wondered this too lol then I saw your new upload!
Salamat kuya
see this is what the shoe community is missing .. history lessons
Thank you for saying that bro bro
Thanks for putting together this cultural education for US dudes 👍🏾
Man, thank you for watching AND commenting. You're goated
@ 🙏🏾
Cool video. Love the Yeah Right! t shirt! Classic.
In Italy they are also very popular models and have always been, ever since they came out on the market. Nike also released a pair of Air Max Plus in the colorway of Napoli, an Italian city/soccer team. Greetings from Italy, ciao-ciao!
Nice video! Can somebody tell what instrumantal is playing at 4:23?
Never been that much of a fan of TN’s although they do look comfortable. When I was growing up during the 90s Reebok Classics tended to be popular with burglars. They made little noise and were comfortably cushioned (great for jumping out of windows). I like them for obviously different reasons.
a litte add on to the TN style Mercedes at 8:20 thats a rapper from Germanys Rapcrew 187 Straßenbande they rap alot about TN's which are called "Haifisch Nike's" in Germany (Shark Nikes). The rapper in the Picture is called LX. The 187 is a huge success with multiple Gold and Platinum records.
in western australia, many clubs have banned triple red shoes, in particular the original air maxs and the TN's.
i rocking cortez right now got about 8 pairs!one of the best shoe designs to ever come from nike
The fact that you mentioned air max 95's previously used to be called 110's, I aint heard that in a while lol fair play for doing your research 💯
Good detailed video, can't lie💯👍
I had the all black '95 in 2005... absolutely diabolical shoe. Every roadman had them on.
The details in these videos is super interesting and I’m a Vomero (coz they’re comfy) wearing non sneaker head . 😮
I got some Vomeros on feet now! Very comfy
Thanks for the insight man! Terrace attire is mentioned much later in the video. 😎😎
@ oh yeah i saw that part- i wrote my dictation about a sneaker culture for my bachelors degree so not only is it fresh in my mind but im finding ways to share my findings, the video was great man always
Negative stigma😂 I’d say well warranted reputation, scouse not English remember
My brothers were part of the "terrace culture" of the 80s.
The change in looks from 70's to 80's is mad.
By the latter you needed to look good when going the football.
Adidas was THE requirement. Nike was around but not like now.
I'm 52 so find which Nike represents which group highly amusing.
If you see guys wearing puffers and black 95s or AF1s your in the wrong postcode. If the toe boxes are creased, then they're used to running and cheffing people so you should just run them whatever is in your pockets
Noted! I will not be rocking my puffers and 95s in the UK anytime soon lol
Dope vid 🤙🏽
Thanks Harry
I’m not even crazy about trainers but really enjoyed this. Big up 👍
Holland Netherlands 90s Gabber Hakken is when i got hooked !Nice shoes not to warm like others !
Great video as always :) Are tou rockin' a Girl "Yeah Right" tee? 💥👏
Over here in new Zealand one of the most common shoes for the youth & gangs are th Nike Tuned airmaxs
Love me kiwi gangs mate
If you think Corteiz drops are crazy, you haven't heard of Poser London. They're super underground and it's almost impossible to get your hands on their clothing items (being baggy jeans and joggers). If you have these people will probably come up to you sometimes asking about them if ykyk
Tn's are also popular in italy between "maranza" a term we use to call road dudes
11:18, me i live in belgium. I would say if you live inside europe, air maxes are just a fashion piece that looks insanely good because of how different they look compared to regular shoes. Everybody here love's air maxes doesnt matter which one it is.
🏆Great information and fun video
your editing skills are next level.👏
i enjoy my 97s with the full length air 👍
the worst feeling is getting a flat tire in your air max 💔
A common look in Aussie is Tns, heavily tattooed legs, short shorts and an ankle bracelet. Tns are loved by eshays but also younger members of Bikey gangs
Shoutout to all the viewers from Australia man. Eshay and non-eshay! Appreciate you mate!
@@gregkelland the term Nike Bikies started floating around, as the new wave of bikie gangsters in the 2000’s started infiltrating the gangs without even knowing how to ride a motorbike.
Mate they were popular with graffiti writers before eshays
Hey brother it’s Richard from Rotterdam 😊, AMAZING video AGAIN 🎉
Hey Richard! Hope you're well man. Hope you enjoyed the upload mate
but thats why my go to was always the airmax 93!!!! what a trainer!!! sleek and nice but also the durability to run 30mph and run up walls in a police chase...the best all rounder
Thanks for this my guy. Im a 90s bad man so this resonates with me.
In Australia
TNs were formally known as Esh shoes, but nowadays, every jim and joel wears it because of its trend during the "Australian Drill" scene from 2018 onwards.
But, Im from Western Sydney, where Asics & TNs are a staple.
these shoes are pretty big in Australia, too. See 3 or more people under the age of 18 and above 12 at a train station, take the bus.
as an aussie with all these shoes they are connected with street culture but also are just worn in street wear the rest of the outfit will tell you if there an essay or not
8:20 a pic is not about UK, a guy in a TN VP-styled Benz is a German rapper LX from Hamburg. :)
Im in the US. I didnt know about any of this. Now Im looking at the at all my nikes different 😂. Great info and shout out to the people in the comments for the education
The TN has Taken Over Australia! when i was a kid, only lads wore TN's and Airmax's now they are a shoe essential
love your videos
Thanks David!
Not my thing really, but a fascinating look at the shoes and the cultures of folk who idolised these garish consumer mana.
Air max 95 ultra, Air max BW classic, and the Air max 90s are a staple in the uk. Very loyal to those three
I wear Nike cos they fit well, are comfortable and better made than Addidas etc
Here in Lima Peru Nike means Criminal who wears them. And if People see you wearing shoes LaCoste, Boss, Diesel, Louis Vuitton, Renzo Costa, Oakley They think you are a good guy.
But.. guess what??? I love Nike, Adidas, Puma. I don't care what people say.
Be yourself
Latin america sneaker culture deep dive coming soon mang
