The legendary server as a european is an incredible game changer. Its so smooth, it feels like a different game! I stopped playing a few years ago because I got so fed up with the lag. It's so fun to play again.
Yeah the 64 bit tech is about damn time :) Happy to know it's working so well! Can't wait for a rollout to the live servers after the Legendaries get their legs under them with a few months of fun!
I wonder if my old account that I made on release is still available to play on. I had pretty much everything you could have up to the point where I stopped playing. I'm sure none of that would matter now though.

Lotro is following in the footsteps of the movies, which in turn has followed in the footsteps of the novels in being a timeless classic that will never die.
Lord of the rings online is an mmo ive played on and off for a couple years now and its honestly so fun, every time i come back to playing it actively i cant believe id stopped playing
It is a thoroughly enjoyable experience to wonder if at any moment I may spawn a truly tough enemy. Was quite the shock the first time it spawned and squished me.
This game is fantastic. My character is old like from 2015, but now i am truly intending to jump in heavy. Currently lvl 32. Loving Evendim and the line lands. Ill try to get into tailoring too to help myself with medium armor.
I played many MMOs over the last 20 years but Lotro is my personal favorite. The overall world design and atmosphere of this game is unmatched in my opinion.
Im in need for a mmo in my life and even tho i returned to ffxi .. so much has changed and this seems like something i shouls try with the new legendary server. I really would love to group up with players and create new memories
Not discouraging you from trying Lotro (I’ve never tried it myself), but if you want the classic FFXI experience, you should check out horizon XI. It’s a private free to play server with its own client/installer. Look it up.
I have a level 63 or something in Mirkwood but I haven't played in a few years! Absolutely love this game but I reinstalled recently and had no idea how to play my character. Really didn't want to start fresh as I remember how long it took me to level especially through Moria section haha. Might just need to slowly ease back into my rotation. Always wanted to get to Rohan and Gondor but never did.
It happens to me too. I don't play for a while and then I'm lost what to do... I usually pick 1 enemy at a time in the wilderness and try to relearn my abilities and combos. I reread each ones and try to remember how to play. After a few minutes, I feel comfortable to go exploring again. I may not remember all my abilities, but I reread them every sessions and I get back to the point where I master my options. Also, you may redo your skill trees and pick the abilities you want. This help also to see what power your character has. It works for me!
I came back after a long break and rolled on Angmar. It has been amazing. Also I’m the only Mariner I have seen lol. Read that people hate the class but I enjoy it a lot
I was one of those that left a couple of years ago due to the lag, when I read what they were doing with the new servers and how they've been upgraded, it was the perfect time to give the game another shot. After four days playing it, there is still a little bit of lag, notably a rollback we had on Sunday, but compared to what it was, so far it's manageable. The game itself, it's still one of the most addicting MMO's I've played and I've played all the big ones, from ESO, to WoW, to GW2, SWTOR, New World, you name it, but there's just something about this game and I'm not a huge fan of the movies.... go figure. lol One thing I will mention, is that this game makes you feel as if you're actually in the world, something I don't usually get from other games. Anyway, good video and hopefully the game does pull in more people. The starting zones on the new American legendary server are very busy, I've never seen this game this busy before.
@@Renfail Right. I mentioned the legendary servers, but perhaps didn't clarify it enough. The lag is still present on the new servers, at least on the American one, Angmar, it's nothing like it was, which is what forced me to quit, so I'm hoping the transition from 32 > 64 did indeed help. The new server is much smoother than Arkenstone for example.
I've been waiting for Mordor to open ever since it was announced because having an European server based here has been a big request ever since they moved the original ones to the US. I've really been enjoying playing on the new server its like being back when I first started with grouping up with random players to complete deeds or quests and generally helping each other out to kill a mob.
Doing a tavern crawl is genius. RuneScape has a similar mini quest where you go to all of the bars around Gielinor. Debating getting this game just to do this
There are LOTS of little places in the shire alone where you can do pub crawls. It's awesome :) They also have some in-game quest ones where you can end up blacked out in some strange part of the game world without your pants. It's epic :)
I haven't played in years because of the lag but this video has me wanting to try the legendary servers. It can be overwhelming logging into an old character that has no inventory space and several expansions worth of content to do.
You've encouraged me to try one of the legendary servers. I've played for 10 years and I kind of felt burnt by the last legendary servers due to unanticipated closures.
Yeah but they always close down with every company, after time. Usually 2-3 years, whether it's EQ2, WOW, or LOTRO. I always just enjoy them for what they are: limited time window fun!
I've started a Captain on Angmar! It's been great going through the earlier zones and frequently grouping in order to deal with wraiths and to socialize. I hope to get a chance to try some of the dungeons as I missed out on most of them ^_^'
Awesome, I might check it out! I've been thinking of jumping back into WoW Classic SoD since I heard phase 4 is good. If not, I’ll definitely try out LOTRO since I’ve never tried it before. Appreciate the info, Ren! 🤙🏼

It was a massive world when level 60 was the cap. I played to level 60 as lore master back in the day, good times. Moria took a while. Getting to level cap (125 I think) will take you ages, so hours and hours and days of gameplay to be had.
Level cap is 150 now. That is one of the worse sides of the game in my opinion. New players will get discouraged when they see this. Devs need to slice the cap at least in half asap.
Just started last night and got to lvl 10. I think I'll become a VIP after work and start on a Legendary server. Just wish at higher resolutions the tool tips and stats on items in bag could be increased, such tiny text 😵💫
@Renfail I don't know why they can't just add a text increase button to tooltips and item stats like they do when it comes to getting and turning in quest. Tool tips, especially since it's a static box.
I m 43 and back in 2012, I remember how memoareble and good times I had with this game. My first mmo, because in before that time I had no internet. Great community, great mmo, even almost find a girl there😂🎉😊
I was a player when LotRO was in Alpha. A sweet friend brought me into it. Her game name is usually, "Tiggs." Anyway, bought a lifetime sub. Still works. Haven't actually played in many years but I do update and log in. Stopped playing (after buying expansions that were not included in my Lifetime sub) when Mounts and Legendary Weapons arrived. Just too confusing but needed to be competitive in the game. What would the path I should follow if I choose to play again?
@@Renfail thank you for the great vid! This is very detailed with full of heart in it. I will definitely download the game after work no matter how laggy the game 😂
This is the MMO that I would always wanted to come back to, was just hoping my daughter would like to come along or the game would have a graphical engine update.
I love this game been playing since day one, but what I hate the most about it is. The quest that has to do with before, during and after a war, it's so hard to figure out were you need to be at that time. There are other things here and there, but that's the biggest thing.
I would encourage everyone to play this game. The ONE HUGE THING that sucks is the UI. It doesn't scale for modern resolutions. You can play it on 1920 x 1080 but above that it is progressively more awful. They have claimed work will be done on it but we have also heard that they will never fix it. They should chip away at it and announce it. They don't. The only UI update they have made that had nothing to do with the game - just the cash shop store and honestly that looked horrible. That said - there is a TON of content in this game - it's not call of dootie gameplay, it's not the Witcher graphically - but it is a phenomenal game that can give you endless hours of fun.
I was huge fan of this game in the day, it was my first MMO (never played WOW). Belonged to a great Kin (Knights of Elendil), met a lot of good people and found LOTRO to have a very social relaxed atmosphere. Haven't played in years, I remember buying a lifetime membership when it was offered was like 200 bucks, wonder if its still good. Think I will reinstall and give it a try again after seeing a few reviews from people liking the latest update.
So, youre a huge Tolkien fan? Knew there was a reason I liked your channel. I have tried LOTRO, because of the Tolkien professor basicly. But, unfortunately I just dont like MMOs. Wish I could get into it, because the way they approach lore seems just wonderful (and rare).

@Renfail Having to much fun on Anashti Sul. Even found other low lvl players to group with randomly in the wild and made some friends list. Reminds me of the old days.
Come to see whether I should dive into this awesome looking game and the guy mentions EQ2 ... and now I am starting to itch. Convince me to play lord of the rings online instead of downloading EQ2 again 😅
I played LOTRO a few years back, really enjoyed it. But currently I live in Japan so I suppose I'll get lots of lag simply because of the difference in region. Which server would you recommend?
I tried lotro a few years ago, but was totally put off by the poor performance, rubberbanding etc. Been looking for another classic mmo, since playing classic wow nonstop, constantly and nothing else kinda got me burnt out... 😅 This def got me on the fence, especially the legendary server stuffs. Maybe try another hobbit... blue line champion? That sounds hilarious - and awesome!
How solo friendly is it? Also how much group content is there? Are there still a bunch of lower levels running around for low end content? I LOVE lotro but never gotten around to checking out this game.
Great video! Thanks. If I'm playing free, should I create 2 characters on the same server? Or can I exchange stuff between characters on different servers?
CE Lifetime owner here, old chars are gone or rather full of dust on a deactivated EU server. New char is level 10 now on a regular server. Playing on a 4090 at 4K on a 28 monitor and here comes the issue I had: UI and chat scaling are real bad. Your standard bags are tiny and looking at items is a big oof. Chat text size can be set, but not that much/enough. Tomorrow I try legendary Mordor.
I havent played for years lotro ... but I can say that that hell yeah I loved to stroll around in the shire XD 16 characaters I made and I never entered Moria huuaa XD
Great vid, man! Thanks! Here's my MAIN QUESTION: Have they UPDATED the LAUNCHER??? I played this from launch with friends, and we finally moved on after tons of hours. I came back with my kids and played years later with new computers, etc... However, we consistently had launcher issues where the game wouldn't load right or you would have to reinstall everything again to get it to play. We finally quit, not because we didn't like the game anymore, but because I got tired of managing getting into the game. This seems like a stupid problem, since I have never had that issue with ESO, BDO, WoW, Archeage, or anything else which has also been around a long time! I loved the story & feel of LOTRO more than many of these other games, but just got so tired of dealing with the technical problems just to be able to play. So, long story short, have they fixed the launcher with these new servers?
Did they fix the lag spikes?? I've tried the game a few times in the past, but stopped playing because of the (server-wide) lag spikes. It wasn't fun when you die because you can't move, but mobs keep hitting you. Apart from that, I agree with you that the game is one of the most immersive, if not the most immersive, mmorg. LotRO and ESO are my favourite mmorpgs because of the immersion and freedom to enjoy the game without the need to solely focus on the latest expansion content.
@@jofvenom If you choose to be billed monthly it is $14.99 per month. 3 x months is $29.97 for the three months, 6 x months is $59.94 and a 12 month sub will set you back $99.99. It is slightly more expensive than WOW but you get more perks for subscribing.
I was an original beta tester for LOTRO and played it daily for about a year and a half. Since then, I've come back for a week or so about once every year or two. I really want to love the game but the progression has always been so slow that it's never able to keep my attention for long.
Lotro has a Landscape Difficulty setting so you can choose for yourself how easy or hard you want it to be. Older instanced group content unfortunately has bad scaling so it is pretty easy. Newer (endgame) instanced group content is better scaled and also has multiple difficulties ranging from basically story mode to very hard.
Do you think Lotro would benefit from a level scaling? I personally love this game but have never made it past Rohan. I would love to have multiple characters and the option to play through various parts of the game.
I think I'll stick with the server that I'm on already. I like to progress really slowly, much slower than the expansions usually come out for progression servers.
Dude I downloaded it on steam it does nothing. A UA-cam video says I have to download all this extra stuff online and I am not a computer guy. Just bought it so I could play this wth
Okay so I want to start, so do I download through their site or is Steam okay? I'm US and want to play with the new tech and know what order to start etc
Never got into the books cause its alot to read and i dont sit down and read anymore...and i have never seen the movies. I am still looking for a F2P game, would it be worth it for me...not knowing the lore?
I used to play this a lot back in the day a few years back but the latency went crazy and I couldn't play it any more without massive amounts of lag. I wish I could play.
I’d comeback but I can’t retrieve my high level character. Bought a lifetime membership in 2007. They have no idea when I’ll be able to retrieve my character.
I have never played this game ,If i started playing would i feel really, really behind. I read it takes about 150 to 200 hours to get to the end game when its not free, ( i read its level 95 ). I guess what i am trying to say is would there be people to play with or is everyone past the free part. sorry not good at trying to explain things.
20s into the video so pardon me if I speak out of bounds here. But shouldn't the archaic UI be a priority over any X bit tech? I'm so sick and tired of this UI being stuck in the 1080p era. I'm grumpy and salty yes, but hat's because I love the game and want to play it. My circumstances makes it so that I have to play on our TV. And pretty much all tvs are 4k these days. I just wish they could actually do something about it. Jesus effin christ....
Been keeping an eye on LOTRO for a while, but somehow when I see combat stuff the animations just seem to bother me so much that I never decided to actually play it. The world looks better now with the updates, but the combat just seems so outdated and compared to other MMORPGs it just can't seem to compete sadly. The world of Tolkien is so incredibly epic and by far the best fantasy world out there, but for me that can't overthrow the animations and ingame combat, sadly.
@@sephalo6611 My friend, there are SO many MMOs out there that don't rely upon combat, but instead things like base building, co-op exploration, crafting & survival. Combat is only a tiny part of the overall MMO space.
@@sephalo6611 I disagree. Its MMO(RPG), the biggest part of these kinds of games in the genre is the RPG elements, which one may say -- a lot of the newer games had lost its identity from, specifically because they prioritize combat. Of course, combat is def. an accentuation, but this game is also 15+ years old... so you shouldn't expect to be incredibly modern. If you're looking for modern things, look elsewhere, but if you like lore, story, and RP elements -- this is the game for you. I'd say, just try it. Give it 20-50 levels. Its a niche game, its not for everyone, but give it a try! Everyone is welcome, just understand the precursors beforehand. Its a dated game with a ton of love!
thanks, had a tough time getting into the game back 10-15years cuz I was into WoW, had some issues running LOTRO, was waiting for an opportunity to come back into it
Go try them out. If you like what you see and want to play on a legendary server, pay up. The devs deserved to get paid for their work, and legendary servers are extra dev time/salaries/etc., and worthy of requiring a paywall.
I thought that the 64 bit was only still in testing and not on all the servers yet? Edit: 14:30 minute mark you confirm for me that it's not across all the servers. :( Back to waiting. I have no interest in legendary or progression servers personally.
To each their own. I'll be waiting as well, simply because I don't have time to play legendary atm. But I'm on Landroval, so it should be one of the live ones getting updated at some point.

It's a LOT of fun :)
I play Lotro from 2009 throught 2014, i guess my account was destroyed :/ ... my fav mmorpg, so many memories and friends
Downloading it now...
Chop chop lol
I just started EQ2. Now this is popping again? I miss LoTRo
too many games =P
@Renfail Having to much fun on Anashti Sul. Even found other low lvl players to group with randomly in the wild and made some friends list. Reminds me of the old days.
Everyone on Mordor , this is a blast .
LOTRO is the golden gem of mmorpg by far !
it's got legs
Been leveling on the legendary server. Very fun so far. Only question is, if the server dies is there a free character server transfer available?
Yep, they usually last a few years, then free transfer to other servers.
3rd video of this type ive seen this way... guess i am gonna come back
Get on it
I tried lotro a few years ago, but was totally put off by the poor performance, rubberbanding etc.
How much you solo is entirely up to you and your social skills, not the game.
Great video! Thanks. If I'm playing free, should I create 2 characters on the same server? Or can I exchange stuff between characters on different servers?
Same server only
@@Renfail Thank you for your answer!
@@Renfail And one more question, would you advise creating a second character on the same server? Or is there not much difference?
Do you suggest playing this through steam or through the stand alone LOTRO launcher? Also can you play the legacy servers on steam version?
i don't touch Steam
CE Lifetime owner here, old chars are gone or rather full of dust on a deactivated EU server. New char is level 10 now on a regular server.
Playing on a 4090 at 4K on a 28 monitor and here comes the issue I had:
UI and chat scaling are real bad. Your standard bags are tiny and looking at items is a big oof. Chat text size can be set, but not that much/enough.
Tomorrow I try legendary Mordor.
have fun
I'm just installing and going to play for the first time, who wants to run with me
have fun!
I havent played for years lotro ... but I can say that that hell yeah I loved to stroll around in the shire XD 16 characaters I made and I never entered Moria huuaa XD
Very awesome!
So, long story short, have they fixed the launcher with these new servers?
if you are having launcher issues, reach out to their tech support. I've played the game since live and never once had an issue with it.
LotRO and ESO are my favourite mmorpgs because of the immersion and freedom to enjoy the game without the need to solely focus on the latest expansion content.
there's a whole section of the video + the linked notes that cover the move to 64 bit server architecture
The video and the linked notes all have information on the new 64-bit server tech
The legendary servers are only for VIPs right? How much does that cost?
this is what needed to be addressed the most
@@jofvenom If you choose to be billed monthly it is $14.99 per month. 3 x months is $29.97 for the three months, 6 x months is $59.94 and a 12 month sub will set you back $99.99. It is slightly more expensive than WOW but you get more perks for subscribing.
Yes, the legendary servers are for VIPs only.
1 month - $15
3 months - $30
I think they have a year sub for $99 as well.
So, there ya go.
Legendary servers are ALWAYS for VIP only.
@@Renfail since the title refers to NEW players, I figured it was worth mentioning
I was an original beta tester for LOTRO and played it daily for about a year and a half. Since then, I've come back for a week or so about once every year or two. I really want to love the game but the progression has always been so slow that it's never able to keep my attention for long.
ok
I think I'll actually play this game
Does this game have any challenge? Do people typically just steamroll everything and never die?
Lotro has a Landscape Difficulty setting so you can choose for yourself how easy or hard you want it to be. Older instanced group content unfortunately has bad scaling so it is pretty easy. Newer (endgame) instanced group content is better scaled and also has multiple difficulties ranging from basically story mode to very hard.
You can set your own difficulty in the Landscape Difficulty settings.
Do you think Lotro would benefit from a level scaling? I personally love this game but have never made it past Rohan. I would love to have multiple characters and the option to play through various parts of the game.
It's fine
I think I'll stick with the server that I'm on already. I like to progress really slowly, much slower than the expansions usually come out for progression servers.
have fun
ive always wanted to play. Never had anyone to play with.
The lesser wraiths appear do in solo instances, not sure if it's intended.
Not sure
I played EQ, WoW…I remember this had a bad launch with major instability
had a level 70 whjen moria came out. forgot to switch :( may start again but is it easy to find players doing the book quests?
How do you enlarge the mouse pointer? My sight is very poor in fact I am awaiting laser eye surgery.
My boys have old PCs and I’m nudging them towards trying this 😂
there ya go
Dude I downloaded it on steam it does nothing. A UA-cam video says I have to download all this extra stuff online and I am not a computer guy. Just bought it so I could play this wth
If you want some help I can try and help you get it working bossman.
To do the group dungeons, are there still people to complete them?
Okay so I want to start, so do I download through their site or is Steam okay? I'm US and want to play with the new tech and know what order to start etc
Go with their LOTRO client; don't use steam.
Never got into the books cause its alot to read and i dont sit down and read anymore...and i have never seen the movies. I am still looking for a F2P game, would it be worth it for me...not knowing the lore?
Uo ro you
I wish there would be a free new server.
They need to generate a profit to keep employees going.
Do the legendary servers retain the difficulty from the original launch or is it as easy as the “retail” game?
you choose these days, with the landscape difficulty NPC
I used to play this a lot back in the day a few years back but the latency went crazy and I couldn't play it any more without massive amounts of lag.
I wish I could play.
So go play?
@@Renfail lag?
@@officerbucktuddrussel394 I'm guessing you didn't watch the video OR read the patch notes regarding the 64-bit tech on the new servers.
@@Renfail I did I was just unsure if that fixed it.
There are plenty of players and the legendary servers are new enough that no, you would not be behind.
@@Renfail ok and thank you sir for getting back to me i really appreciate you.
Buena Alfa jugando LOTRO

I only play healers in mmo. What should I play in Lotr?
Minstrel or Runekeeper are great picks as main healers.
@@Renfail ty! So nog I need to choose legendary or retail
It's a 15+ year old MMORPG. It's not SUPPOSED to complete with other MMOs. It's an amazing game. Sink yourself in the lore and ignore the combat.
@@Renfail but combat is a huge part of any mmo.
Its a dated game with a ton of love!
hi - I am based in europe, would you recommend VIP package to a new player? I basically want the best experience possible.
I would LOVE to play the new servers, but I can not afford $15/mo
I hear ya, but these are extra servers, and that means players need to pony up and support if they want to access them.
How many players European servers have? I am from south America and I am not sure whether to jump in. I am a hardcore LOTR fan and Lineage 2 player.
One legendary server
thanks, had a tough time getting into the game back 10-15years cuz I was into WoW, had some issues running LOTRO, was waiting for an opportunity to come back into it
Great to hear!
I've tried many times but I just can't get used to the terrible quality of the UI.
I'm using an upscaler program for the UI and it makes it barely tolerable enough to play for me
with the 64 bit servers are the graphics any better i got a rtx 4070 ti and play on 32 inch 1440p 165hz
I'm on a 4080 playing at max settings so feast thine eyes
is the 64bit server is all server? i heard last time its only for 2 server
It's in the video
Is there anyway to trial this without paying the monthly sub straight away? Apart from trying the other non paid servers?
Go try them out. If you like what you see and want to play on a legendary server, pay up. The devs deserved to get paid for their work, and legendary servers are extra dev time/salaries/etc., and worthy of requiring a paywall.
Is there pvp with rewards or a pvp area or mode?
not like you are thinking, no. They do have player versus monster, but it's a very specific mode/area and not PVP, but rather different classes set up
@@Renfail is there reward?
I thought that the 64 bit was only still in testing and not on all the servers yet?
Edit: 14:30 minute mark you confirm for me that it's not across all the servers. :( Back to waiting. I have no interest in legendary or progression servers personally.
To each their own. I'll be waiting as well, simply because I don't have time to play legendary atm. But I'm on Landroval, so it should be one of the live ones getting updated at some point.
I intend to jump in but first I need to sort out some financials. Gotta adult first and then I get to be a person lol
Happens to the best of us from time to time
the new eu server is lit, wraith mechanic make levling super exciting as well
very cool :)
