Been playing Lotro for 16 years and after trying almost every MMO on the market i can honestly say nothing touches Lotro. The lore, the nostalgia, the community and the environment are all 2nd to none. I will be here until it dies or i do.
I started on Angmar this past week. I recently cancelled my WoW subscription (I’m a Classic player) and was looking around for a new game. Fresh LOTRO servers definitely got my attention. Minstrel is a great class if you’ve healed a lot in other mmo’s. The amount of damage you can do even in a stance where you can heal makes the game so much fun. If you are a healer WoW refugee I can definitely recommend it.
im still a New free player. but these videos are super helpful. the game has been very very fun. i find myself just getting lost in the world doing minor quests, and exploring. it brings me back to the old days of MMO's where it was not always about the "get to end game, get to end game thats where the fun starts" and your videos have been super helpful.
For me, the Bear is the best for those who don't know anything about Lotro or are just coming back, few skills, lots of defence, lots of healing and lots of dps. The change of forms happens in the end game, and even then, not much. I got a Bear to level fifty in Angmar in five days, improved class to face the new challenge of the shadows. Despite all this, I still like Cappy more (it's not recommended for beginners anyway). My Cappy is my main character in Gladden, extremely fun and useful. But your point of view is very interesting, great video
One of the benefits of being a lifetime subscriber to Lotro is getting the opportunity to pop in now and again to see the evolution of this amazing game. I love that they opened legendary servers, giving others the same experience I enjoyed many years ago. The Landroval community and the Lonley Mountain Band kinship were some of the best memories of my mmo career. ❤

I’m a returning player and I don’t think I’ve played LOTRO since around the mines of Moria update so it’s crazy to see just how much has been added since I last played. I dont know if you knew it or not, but I think the Guardian has been updated pretty recently where the red line is now a two-handed focused spec. I just rolled one a couple days ago and it is so much fun! I would definitely recommend it for new players.

Logging into LOTRO after many years away and having 52k in LOTRO points from being a lifetime member was a sweet way to get back into, the game! Started a rebuild of my Guardian just to get the feel for the game again. Will have to try some of the newer classes but if you like the solo play Warden was always a rewarding player class.
1 foot note; Beorning is a strong enough class that even if you make mistakes you can likely get away with it and still survive. They are extremely tough. And move quickly, do decent damage, and let’s face it. The ability to shift shapes into a bear is downright cool. New players I’ve introduced to the game really enjoy it.
I tell everyone that asks this - Red line Beorning with just enough into Blue to get Recuperate. Anything that doesn't one shot you pretty much can't kill you. Along with that, while there is certainly a bit of form switching, in Red line you can pretty much stay in Bear form throughout combat and you're going to be fine. I can pull whole camps of mobs that are on level or even a bit above my level and gut them.
Don’t sleep on the brawler! I main as a LM but decided to give the Brawler a chance and it’s super fun. Much more a bar fighter than a monk. 😂 I’d say it’s up there with the champion when solo. Mettle system is very similar to rogue combo points in classic WoW.
Subbed and d/l'ing the game update now. I am one of the ones who absolutely LOOOOVED the Warden. Played mine to 50 and was running Fellowship content with it, and even soloed the Turtle in Moria once. I dont expect them to be as tough anymore, but if they are I'll be happy. One thing that was funny is I levelled 2 wardens at once, a hobbit female and a male human. When adventuring the hobbit girl had male characters offering to help her almost to the point where it was annoying, and the male warden never had people offer to help him, go figure.
Been having a blast on Beorning. Definitely weird having all the baseline changes from the last 15 years AND a level cap of 50 but the wraiths and Fearless difficulty have made it a pretty fun, so far.
Im going to introduce my wife to her first MMO with LOTRO, it will be my first time playing LOTRO as well. Your other video convinced me this was a good plan!
As a hunter, I'd like to plug for the yellow line hunter with the emphasis on traps. It is just fun to play in a more strategic way with exploding decoys and traps.
I just started last week and I have completely fallen in love with Lore Master! I am really enjoying the animal companion tree but I’m seeing lots of things saying fire tree is best. Maybe I’ll try and respec into it. But so far, companion lore master scratches that itch for me
thoughts on LM: it can absolutely pull like a guardian. in blue line, use the sabrecat. it holds aggro, and annihilates everything quickly. in red, use aoe burst, they all die instantly. you just have to be quick. LM is absolutely a dps class after the update. the damage is insane. i have been able to solo group content, both as red and blue. all of the pets can hold aggro very well now, specifically the lynx for single target and the sabre for aoe. both of them do very high damage also.
It's interesting this old game has a means to buff a solo player to do some of the instances. About a year or two ago I tried FF14. I was having some fun except for 1 glaring issue: To progress the core story or class progression, you had to do certain multiplayer instances. The problem I had was that since FF14 was an old game, everybody was endgame level. Nobody was queuing up for the lower level stuff I needed to do, nobody was willing to help in chat. So something like my class progression was stopped dead in its tracks because nobody was willing to help out in the instances I needed to do. I remember asking around for help to do main story instances and it was the same thing. Nobody was queuing up, nobody wanted to help, so progress was halted. I quit the game because of that.

Thank you for th is video, I'm rather tolkien obsessed and played LOTRO online many years ago but it wasn't very good in comparison to WOW. I think I'll be going back now to try :)
Long time World of Warcraft (classic) player looking for something else to do. This got recommended to me. Think I'll give it a shot. Think I'll go with a guardian as a noob.
played a hobbit burg as main for most of my years! try it out, it's awesome. learn a good rotation, and you blast stuff down. also decent CC and CDs, so you can bite off a lot (or just sneak past it). haha. Sneak speed in higher levels makes playing much more fun, early levels run around out of stealth until close to mobs!
I'd actually consider Captain to be pretty noob friendly. It goes slower but you never die. I used to play duo with my brother, champ + captain and we smashed through everything including most dungeons just the two of us. Crafted are own gear, completed all deeds we came across, smoked lots of pipe weed, slaughtered uncountable goblins.....god this game is great.
I just came back (last played during the Moria expansion) and have been enjoying Beorning. They seem to be very tanky and do great damage as well. They seem fairly similar to the druid class in world of warcraft, which is one of my favorite wow classes. Less complex than druid though, where you had to shift in and out of forms a lot more, especially in raids/dungeons. You had to make macros for "powershifting" where your DPS was very reliant on shifting in and out to generate energy. One of the more complex DPS rotations in classic wow. Beorning seems more complex than guardian or champion but still not too complex. I'd say if the person has played any MMO at all, beorning should be okay to play.
Before watching to the end…. but one consideration should always be to take a class where the solo experience is NOT hugely different from the group role. New to the game, soloing landscape, it will always be a huge awakening when you suddenly have to tank or heal groups. Champ, hunter, dps runekeeper maybe.
The same principles apply, and if you are going with a good group it won't really be any different other than turned up a couple of notches in terms of intensity :)
I went for lore master because it has a pet. Be default that seemed to be the best for a solo player because the pet can tank while I focus on dps. I dunno if that's a good class for a beginner to mmos in general but it seems like it would be good for a beginner to this game who has previous mmo experience and is mostly gonna be solo.
Thank you for an informative and interesting video. please be aware that the recent LM changes do not allow the eagle pet to revive a loremaster, but rather prevent you from being defeated for a short period of time. Also be aware that Loremasters cannot summon pets in Damage red line spec
if you like a little bit of flexibility, and figuring things out (solo or group), a bit of a challenge, try classes like lore master, burg. My favorite class after playing many years is the burg. You can make things easymode sometimes if you want with their cooldowns, and you can also take on challenges. It's also pretty high DPS on single target, which is fun. Warden I've tried many times, but there is a lot more focus on gambits, which are getting combos of moves, and I think it takes away from enjoyment for me. That being said, Wardens (afaik, i left the game a couple years ago) can solo almost everything in the game, including some bosses, if you're good. Order of magnitude stronger than other classes for soloing really hard stuff because you can spam self heals and defenses
Would like to play the Guardian as my first LotRO character but I'm not sure if it doesn't take too long to defeat enemies. Is time okay or does it seem endless?
Beorning is amazing. If you go red line and just stay in Bear form the wraiths are easy. You can literally spam your first attack power and you'll be fine solo in everything. You do not have to form switch at all. Red line, stay bear, destroy everything. Easy peezy lemon squeezy. 17 year founding player.
Brand new player here that joined last night to participate in thr legendary server. I ended up picking gaurdian and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with what best traits to pick leveling and higher content. I'm the type of tank that wants to help anyone with dungeons and any group activity and hope if I stick to he blue tree I'll be able to do so.
@@lonelytaru The forums are always the best place to start, or hang out in places like Bree where there are tons of players (The Prancing Pony) and you'll find lots of guilds represented :)
Returning player (LTA) here: Which class - which is needed in groups - (maybe tank?) would you recommend? Which is the easiest to learn for a casual player?
Was wandering any pvp in the game like battleground or scenarios? And might bring a few friends is the leveling can you go in group and do harder stuff and get higher rewarde or better off just solo it?
The only thing that makes me indecisive to start lotro is pvp system i mean pvmp are there any dodge or evade mechanich and is pvp both item-based and skill- based or item-based without strategy.
The game has never been a PVP game. It has an OPTIONAL PVP component that is complete seperate and is not what 95% of the game is made up of, which is PVE content.
@@powerblazing3603I’m from Brazil so more or less I have the same ms, and I think it’s fine. Maybe some disadvantage on dungeons and competitive stuff, but overall I didn’t have any problems.
How is the end game community of the game? Is it just RP and gathering transmogs or there are raids etc??? Also can I increase the size of the UI that was a big problem from who I play at 2K
there are many things to do at end-game; find a good guild and you'll be sorted :) Yes, you can scale the UI and font sizes, but it's not intuitive. You need to be ready to spend a couple hours tweaking.
@@Renfail I dont know if you are familiar with WoW but it has a lot of end game for casuals and also hardcore players. I am somewhere in the middle I like a challenging dungeon or raid. There is no crowd control in this game Beyond abilities to do several seconds of locking down. The closest would be the loremaster but if you are playing with a group no one will have you doing crowd control because it's a completely pointless mechanic that no one uses tennis game
17 year founder player here, you are dead on right. Good sound advice and any new Lotro player should consider this as a good guide to start. Warden is all I play. Ever. Hard to master, but I'm always learning Great video
Read founder and wanted to ask you these ; do you recommend playing lotro from steam or dl client seperately from lotro website. And do you have any information that either way we can access legendary servers ?
depends on where you live; around 15 usd per month, or less if you pay in blocks of 3/6/12 months. Go to their store, it will convert to your local currency
On Beorning you can take off the hot bars changing places when changing forms. I used to play long time with them changing on and I think it makes it feel more cool and impactful when you change forms, but I do prefer having that thing off for making the gameplay easier. I would also say that Beorning isn't that bad for a beginner, but I think it is harder class to play after the changes they made to it last year, but still not that bad. I would say in my opinion worst classes for beginner would be Burglar, Warden and Lore-Master (or I dunno, Lore-Master might be easier to play since the recent changes).
This is exactly what I imagined a LotRO player looked and spoke like. Cool wizard look, knowledgeble and calm. Fantastic!

Order of magnitude stronger than other classes for soloing really hard stuff because you can spam self heals and defenses
Have fun
Mate been watching your vids for a few weeks now, rolled a character on arkenstone but debating a character on legendary servers..
Enjoy either way
as a Guardian main you can do good dps using a 2 handed weapon as i play its not much as a tank
Thinking about picking up the game ive never played before, Is there any differences between the races?
It's MOSTLY just "roleplay" these days. The stats aren't that important in the modern iteration of the game, though they do have some unique passives.
May jump back in again...couple months late to legacy, I think I can catch up. Dwarf of somekind. Hunter, Cap, or Guardian probably.
you have plenty of time :)
Nice to see us young minded older guys still in the game, nice video thank you. Do you play any other mmorpgs?
I play a lot of games :) Variety channel here. Stick around, we got a good community :)
Watching this makes me wanna go play right now lol!
Get on it!
Do you make a extra Video about the Loremaster, how you played yours with Talents, etcs? :)
I have guides for ALL of the classes up in the playlist, though they are at least a year old, so need to be updated.
I am gonna start on a free to play server, what class do you recommend please?
Would like to play the Guardian as my first LotRO character but I'm not sure if it doesn't take too long to defeat enemies. Is time okay or does it seem endless?
Nah it's fine.
very exciting, I love LOTR!
same :)
Beorning is amazing. If you go red line and just stay in Bear form the wraiths are easy. You can literally spam your first attack power and you'll be fine solo in everything.
You do not have to form switch at all.
Red line, stay bear, destroy everything. Easy peezy lemon squeezy.
17 year founding player.
that's one way !
Hello sir, do you know if we can access legendary servers if we launch the game from steam ?
Decided to roll on Mordor :)
Have fun
Hunter we haver to pay for teleportarion right?
what dou would you recommend for newbies on the legendary server?
great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Brand new player here that joined last night to participate in thr legendary server. I ended up picking gaurdian and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with what best traits to pick leveling and higher content. I'm the type of tank that wants to help anyone with dungeons and any group activity and hope if I stick to he blue tree I'll be able to do so.
Yep, you'll be fine.
@@Renfail btw.. how do we find clans in this game?
@@lonelytaru ask in World Chat or wait for one of the many messages from a kin looking for members.
I play solo, so no idea
Captain is a fantastic solo class.
Was wandering any pvp in the game like battleground or scenarios? And might bring a few friends is the leveling can you go in group and do harder stuff and get higher rewarde or better off just solo it?
Monster Play (battlegrounds)
i feel like a new player, i played when it was codemasters. i believe i got to level 70???? around moria then didnt migrate.
Hello, I am really into PvP and i've always played rogue on other mmo. Does Burglar is decent in PvP? Thanks in advance
There is no PVP like that here
@@Renfail 😅
Reinstalling this game after not playing since 2012. My level 45 Champion should still be there. I think the last area I was in is called Fornost.
Yep
I am glad I got the lifetime membership a long time ago. So need for a subscription. Don't know why I quit playing this MMO. I am a big LOTR fan.
Started playing 2 days ago. Got 5 characters to lvl 6 lol. Still don’t know what to play
the more the merrier :)
I just quit WoW after 20 years, because the new expansion looks boring, and subscribed to LOTRO for the first time ever. This video is very helpful!
I play a Warden on Angmar.
Nice!
Is lotr as good as eso? Honest opinions
Hi! Thank for your videos. Is this game playable with aprox. 150ms ? Because i'm pretty sure there are no servers near my area. Thanks!
I have no clue where you live so how could I possibly answer that? If you've got modern internet, you should be fine
@@Renfail oh, I have at minimum 150ms (Argentina)
@@powerblazing3603I’m from Brazil so more or less I have the same ms, and I think it’s fine. Maybe some disadvantage on dungeons and competitive stuff, but overall I didn’t have any problems.
@@pauloskinner thank you!
But I also like the slow pace of LOTRO . I stopped playing cause I couldnt adjust the UI i thin k it was 2 years ago
whats a good CC class similar to the enchanter in Everquest?
There is no crowd control in this game Beyond abilities to do several seconds of locking down. The closest would be the loremaster but if you are playing with a group no one will have you doing crowd control because it's a completely pointless mechanic that no one uses tennis game
bro do you know how to hide our headgear or helmet?
cosmetic sets
@@Renfail My headgear looks funny on my character 😂😂😂😂
Red Lore Master. 😎
for some
i played when it first came out have the starter box am i able to get that account back?
No clue
I am entirely new, should i start on a legendary server or normal?
If you've got 15 bucks, yes.
The warden 🙌🏻
it's an option!
The answer is yellow Beorning.. Just stay in bear kill and heal
It's an option
Archer or captain
both solid
Best class for Legendary hands down is Bear! Nobody can solo Mournful wraiths like a bear..
it's an option for some
17 year founder player here, you are dead on right.
Good sound advice and any new Lotro player should consider this as a good guide to start.
Warden is all I play. Ever.
Hard to master, but I'm always learning
Great video
Cheers
Read founder and wanted to ask you these ; do you recommend playing lotro from steam or dl client seperately from lotro website. And do you have any information that either way we can access legendary servers ?
@@Xenqrator Steam client has lotro store and online payment issues where standalone client doesn't
Which of sever best for kiwi or NZ play on for Lag
Severs
no idea
connect to Angmar for lower lag. its in the US. Mordor is in Europe.
Can anyone tell me what is the legendary servers
WoW Classic but for LOTRO
How much is the legendary server?
depends on where you live; around 15 usd per month, or less if you pay in blocks of 3/6/12 months. Go to their store, it will convert to your local currency
@Renfail thanks for quick reply 👍
New players? This game has new players?
Me, who just started as a Captain: 🤡
hahahahahah :) It's mostly just personal preference!
Subjective lists are fun for exactly that reason :)
this is easy, Hunter is the class to play for a new player.
I think it is easy yep
Too late to give it a try?
It's never too late to play LOTRO :)
