Having weighed 317 lbs at 6'2", there was no better statement in this video than, "I feel like a mess". I hated myself and my life because even the simplest day to day tasks were completely taxing. I now weigh 205 lbs and, along with a few other sources, the BUFF Dudes were a huge inspiration to completely change my life. Thank you guys for the work, the message, and the inspiration that you both provide!
I went from 320 to 220 (on my way to 200) since August of last year. I'm 6ft tall. And yeah, "felt like a mess" was putting it mildly. There was so much else he won't ever feel.
@ZTFab1 In March of 2013 I weighed 300 pounds (height 6'2" age was 33) started eating clean lifting again, and running ( I competed in boxing, grappling l, and MMA)when I was younger) body weight was down to 205 by September 2013. Kept the weight off for 10 years then sept 25th of this year lost someone really close to me and it all unraveled started drinking again, quit working our, and eating like garbage again, back up to a body weight of 260 today November 25th 2023. Congrats on your achievement, never forget how quick and easy it can all come crashing down, ill eventually get over my BS and get healthy again bit right now i just can't seem to motivate myself to get back with it.
6'1" man in my 30s, formerly obese around 280slbs in 2015, currently in the 180slbs feels waaaaaaay better lol I'd much rather lift and train and do daily cardio and eat less so I'm often sore and hungry than be stuffed and obese and sedentary and feel like I'm slowly dying
@CPDystopia steady drop really. Other than typical water weight fluctuations day to day its been a steady downward trend. My last post was 2 weeks ago at 287 and today's weigh in was 284
When I first found you guys, I weighed 330 pounds. Over about 2 years of working with your videos and 12-week Plans, I dropped down to 200 pounds. Every year I still religiously use that first plan you released. You guys changed my life forever. And for that, I will keep buying all the plans you release, that's the least I can do.
I lost 221lbs (max was 412lbs). I was morbidly obese for over 10 years. While the weight loss took me 2 years and was the hardest thing I have ever done, I can say that every day life is also very difficult for the extremely over weight. You have to choose your hard! For me, the final difference was UA-cam and documenting the entire process. Though I never was able to reach as many people as the Buff Dudes, my motivations were the same. If you can help even 1 person then all efforts are worth it. Thanks for making this video!
Coming out of High School I used to weigh just shy of 400 lbs. Almost a year after that, I'd hit that big 4 and it was not a moment of glory. I didn't care. I didn't strive for a life of fitness or longevity. I didn't consider the adverse side effects it'd have on my health and body. You two were one of the first UA-camrs that got me into watching fitness. You're entertaining, funny and a joy to watch while still providing information that other people NEED to know. In 2019 I was just over 400, and a week ago I stepped onto the scale to find myself sitting at 289 even. The journey continues, but know that you guys are one of the catalysts I've used to get my shit together. Thanks bros, stay buff. Yeahhhh!
You're gonna make it too bro. I used to be 270 pounds for 5'10, all of it was fat, I had terrible sleep and diet, couldn't even get on a bus without having my heart nearly explode. Now I'm 165 pounds, I exercise 4 to 6 times a week. I finished a small bulk and started cutting to become leaner. Took me 5 years of ups and downs.
Speaking as someone who literally did go from 320 to maintaining 200-220 for a decade and keeps a vest myself to remind me, this might be the most important work you guys have done. Every PT who coaches weightloss should do this challenge, and society as a whole needs to be educated how much this isn’t just aesthetics or discrimination as it’s commonly framed, it’s practical. Great job guys.
There was a short-lived series in which trainers actual stopped working out and got fat over 6 months for their clients so they could truly understand what their clients went through. Then, they'd lose the weight together. There were two seasons and you can find clips here on UA-cam. Fit to Fat to Fit. I wish they had more seasons.
@@RetroGuy_77 even that is not quite what the average obese person goes around with. most fat people are walking around with less muscle than the average personal trainer so these trainers are almost not capable of experiencing the same kind of obesity unless they stop lifting for like a year as well. it's a good thing they try, but it is just one flaw in the concept.
Kudos to you Brandon. You didn't have to even try but it's a great reminder how much we put our body and make life uncomfortable. With you and Hudson video and help I went from 230 to 175 and can't be thankful enough .. for sure don't want that 230 feeling
It's strange. I've been going from 210 down to the mid 160s (currently around 180) and I don't think much of it, but it was a huge deal when I went from 270 to 140. Yes, that's a lot more weight, but the point is it's amazing how far I've come and how much I've grown and conquered.
Started at 320. Dropped 135 over about 18 months. Was so terrified of joining the gym I waited till I was about 240. Finding channels like yours gave me so much insight and confidence to keep going back. It’s now 3 years and I’ve kept the weight off, done 2 bulks and on a cut right now. While it’s great to see what you experienced it reminded me of where I was and why I’ll never go back.
It would have been interesting to see Brandon’s heart rate compared from the week prior, resting, recovering, and lifting, to the loaded week. I bet his heart never got a break other than sleeping
Brandon man, I watched this video and you almost had me in tears. 6 years ago I was 500lbs. Cut it down to 360 since then but life very much IS uncomfortable. What you said about wanting to take it off at the end of the night is a feeling every overweight person has had but can't "JUST" take it off. The fact that you didn't complete the full week is not an issue at all but it just goes to show how much being overweight can be an overwhelming daily challenge.
Brilliant video. I've never been over 300 lbs, but let me tell you I've gotten close to 300. It's not good at all, but the hardest thing is when you're obese, you often feel like it's never gonna change. You feel like you might as well like it or lump it cuz that's the cards you were dealt. That couldn't be further from the truth. As Rocky said, "if I can change and you can change, EVERYBODY CAN CHANGE." love Rocky 4 btw
Having been 365lbs myself, and now 250lbs, yes... that extra weight is NO joke. This was a much better way of showing what larger people experience than just the "appearance" of being big... it's the reality of how much weight is being carried around and how difficult every day things are. Great vid!
Thanks so much@@Hanakowasright It was a mixture of proper eating and exercise. I work out almost daily and do a mixture of weight training and martial arts.
Brandon, thank you! Im 6’4 and 315. I bought your dumbbell workout program, weights and bench. I’ve been feeling like im dying while doing it. This really gives me the courage to keep going. I feel like it’s not just me, it’s my extra weight that I’m trying to loose. You said it best im tired and feel like a mess. I’ve never felt more seen on UA-cam…ever.
@@noncog1 thanks man, I’m working towards my first goal of 250. After than next goal is 225. And that’s the weight my doctor wants me at so hopefully next Christmas I’ll be there!
maybe do cardio or even just run/walk around/ uphill treadmill at conversational pace as well (fyi most people have to run and walk at the start to maintain low heart rate not just fat people) Really helps recovery or surviving a resistance training session
Wishing you the best man. If you're still struggling a lot with the workout, my only advice is to try and find something that you can find yourself doing not just until you reach your goal, but for the rest of your life. Movement is health.
I’m a 43 year old man weight 410 pounds at 6’2 from Norway 🇳🇴. Just started my weight loss journey. I have had enough now I’m turning my life around. So thanks guys for all you share it’s giving me inspiration and motivation to keep going forward and getting healthier every day.
Just started the video, im gonna guess the biggest thing you felt in this video is stress on your joints. I’ve gone from 465 to 188 in 6 years, and the biggest thing i have noticed since losing weight and exercising a lot is that my joints hurt significantly less.
Thanks! I currently weigh 320lb and have been saying I’m gonna lose the weight for years. This video was exactly was I needed to show me how much better I will feel. Thank you very much for that.
Thank you for the most empathetic take on this experiment. I'm 5'6", currently 306 but was 334 when I started 15 months ago. I'm a dad who has an office job, has to fix things around the home as well as for parents/in laws, the frustration shown is an everyday for me. I added weight lifting in August and hope to progress. Thanks for being inspirations!
@derrickdelmar4295 exactly. Some weeks are harder than others and things don't work out, but that just makes me more motivated to prioritize it next week. Good luck!
A year ago, I started a fitness journey at 46 that completely changed my life, I owe a lot to your videos and inspiration. I'm a single dad living overseas with my 17 year old son teaching art for the US military education program for military dependents. After having a health scare, I decided to make some changes. I started out at 276 lbs at 5'10". With starting with your workout programs, buffdude cookbook, and hiring a nutritionist to guide my macros, I am now down to 205lbs and in the best shape since my 20's. I want to thank you for posting your videos and giving me inspiration. But more so, teaching me how to take care of myself. I built my own home gym and feel motivated to keep this a life habit. Keep up the work.
Love this video! I was 315lbs and losing weight now, 260 now. Just remember that living at that weight it even worse, because 99% of people that size dont have half the muscle he has, and theres constant inflammation, high blood pressure, etc. at that size i was fainting at the gym after 10 minutes. I love how this video really shows how difficult life is at that size, and how difficult it is to improve your life. When every little thing is an absolute chore, it feels impossible to go to the gym after 8 hours of work, when you're basically crawling through the door at the end of the day, or to even stand and cook is something that can bring you to tears some days.
Its crazy how much longevity you guys have. I've been subbed for something like 8 or 10 years now, and I truthfully don't watch every video, but you guys still come through my feed and give me a reason to click on something interesting or novel.
I weight 330 lbs (150 kg) and what most people do not understand at first is that I can lat pull down them, and yet I cannot do a single push up. "Do Caliesthenics, they are much easier to start than weights!" Only when your body weight is not the main problem. It is amazing to think that I am carrying 2/3 of my girlfriend in extra weight over the weight that I want. Hopefully I will start to see the results soon.
When I started back trainning I've started with only the eccentric part to create more muscle mass. Took 2 weeks before I could do 4 pull-Up. I was doing 10 eccentric pull-Up and when I got to the point that even the 10th one I wasn't dropping down without any resistance. That's when I made the switch and it work perfectly. Calesthenics works great but when you start back you need to do easier version: Knee push-up, eccentric pull-up, body weight squat are insanely good when starting the journey. The othe one I love is the plank. Never stop the grind. You will win the price in the end.
Crazy timing, i just hit 100 lb weight loss yesterday. I've been less than excited with my progress since im still pretty overweight, but this helped put things in perspective a little bit. Not where I want to be, but so far from where I started.
Dude. That is freaking amazing. You are amazing. Don't fret if you haven't reached your "goal". You put in the effort to drop a hundred freaking pounds. Don't let anything take that away from you. You made changes, you took charge. Hopefully you're still taking charge. You're healthier, stronger and more mobile, and you know how to get even healthier, stronger and more mobile.
At my highest, I weighed about 300 pounds and I'm only 5'8. I got down to 190 last year and I'm around 210 now. It was very much a burden and it took a lot of hard work to change. I'm still working on improving every day cause I'm not where I want to be after 3 years, but not feeling like everything I do is a chore anymore is a blessing. And while I understand the difficulty of trying to better yourself, I do urge anybody who is struggling with weight to do their best to improve no matter how slowly you decide to take it. You WILL feel better for it and will be glad you did it.
6'4. 315. 47 years old. Been struggling with maintaining momentum and consistency on losing weight and getting healthy. I started at 350. Got to 298, then fell off the path. This video hits hard. Way harder than any of the others on here. But in the right way. And seeing the comments from other guys that were where i am and losing the weight... I gotta get moving.
This video hit me so hard it made me remember my journey and how hard it was when I started at 567lbs how I had to be in a wheelchair in order to get places and how I had to sit and rest after every set ... And how I maybe take it for granted now that I am 200lbs how easy things are and how fast we can forget how hard it was before..thank you for the reminder my buff bros 🙏💪💪
@@What-he5pr it was either loss it and figure why I was eating myself to death.. the mental part was always the hardest 🙏 I appreciate it my friend thanks for the positivity
Hey my man. Im currently 460lbs and im struggling to be mobile. Im getting help at an eating disorder place but im struggling with it. I know why and what causes me to overeat and binge eat, the triggers both emotional and otherwise. I know full well whats caused this. But I feel I have no power; I spend all day, every secon thinking about food. What im going to eat now, and later on. It's exhausting and draining and it breaks down my mental strength. I desperately want to lose the weight and be healthy, happy, but I can't seem to .. Figure out how to just "Get" the motivation/determination. Im so tired, all of the time. I wondered if I could ask what changed? Did you have a moment whre it clicked and suddenly you could do it? What did you do to connect the dots between desire and action?
@@lewismassey9312 o won't lie to you the feeling of wanting food does go away a bit but like most addictions it's always kinda in the back of your mind I deal with it ..with keeping myself busy quiet time when you first start is dangerous because your mind goes to soothe mode wants comfort and comfort is the real killer ..being uncomfortable is key things that make you worried or scared like working out or being outside in a park ..just don't stay in your comfort zone it will kill what your trying to accomplish..and that click moment was when I couldn't help my dying mother I couldn't move around and when she needed me I failed her and myself..I always promised to myself since she passed that I would live a full life . I won't lie to u it's not easy my brother but you are worth it ..all the food in the world isn't worth your life my amazing friend please if you need help or someone to talk to you definitely have a friend in me and your on the right track the buff dudes are amazing people to watch to get ideas and to keep you motivated.. if your ever on IG please look me up I'll always write you back IG: dopeazzvegan hope to talk to you soon 🙏
You guys are one of the main channels that assisted me during the beginning of my fitness journey almost 3 years ago, and I'm constantly sending people you guys way! Keep up the great work, dudes!
When I saw the vid from you guys making the new gym and saw Brandon wearing the vest, I expected this video, but never that it wouls be 100lbs. Hell of an effort. Also almost shed a tear by the end. Thanks for all the content over the years, just in the middle of your bulking plan (again)
Ok brother, now that you’ve felt 320lbs imagine 900lbs. That’s where I was four years ago. After two surgeries I’m sitting at 238lbs and once my torn bicep is healed right back to the gym. I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to understand obese people’s struggles. I’ve had many say I took the “easy” way out by using surgery but let me tell you nothing about it was easy.
Congrats brother, there is no easy way out and what ever you can do to improve your health should be applauded by those around you and if they don't then maybe you should distance your self as they may have been part of the problem. We need to feel good about our selves and if people cant encourage what ever you are doing they may be the wrong people to be around. take care of that bicep and take your time building up the weight again.
I appreciate that you tackled the physical aspect of being overweight instead of the social. I'm 5'8 at about 380 lbs. At that weight, you can feel your body working against you. Even just laying down for bed isn't comfortable because I feel my body drooping off of itself. It affects you mentally. You showed a little bit of that when you said you wanted to quit because of how difficult even mundane tasks were. I wish it were as easy as just getting out and working on losing weight. Physically it is, and I have moments of clarity when I can convince myself to try. However, the negative emotions that come with the weight and the urge to not bother trying since everything else feels so difficult already without the extra work is often times overwhelming. I find I give into those feelings without realizing I have until I recheck my weight to find I'm a little bit heavier. Seeing you push through the everyday difficulties that come with being overweight has given me a mental push to try harder. I wanted to thank you for that.
Appreciate this video. I remember discovering your videos in 2013 and being 350lbs. Come down to about 190 since. I appreciate all you guys have done to help my journey.
I just want to say this channel has been a big inspiration to me the last few months. You and your brother remind me of the Paul Brothers; those "barbarian" twins from the 90s with some of the zany experiments you do. This time last year I weighed 450 lbs, I'm currently at 380 lbs; I found this channel 6 months ago and recently acquired the buff dudes bodyweight book. It has helped me set and reach several goals in my search to get my life back on track. Keep up the work.
I’m a 320 lb guy, don’t think it’s equal. It’s harder for him because it’s all over my body not all on certain points. I do say that it affects my back and I do get winded. Was 360 went down to 260 then gained some muscle and fat back. Still feel better overall thanks for keeping people aware of their health.
Nope it's actually easier for him even if the weight isn't distributed too evenly, because of oxygen and blood flow. When you are 320 lbs oxygen takes longer to get cycled around the body and your heart has a harder time pumping enough oxygenated blood around to sustain physical activity, not to mention you get much worse sleep at 320 lbs vs 220, which leads to worse recovery.
@@Cody_Ramer lol it is stupid. It is not part of his body, and on the other hand the guy who are obese fat is part of their body. And the logic here is far more worse

Would be kind of a interesting challange to see experts first write down a excercise program targeted at those who are 320+ pounds to help them lose weight. But the catch is- they have to wear the same amount of weight and try their excerise program out. Would be very insightful to hear their toughts before, during and after the experiment. ^^ Awesome video! Cheers!
Exactly. Give me the "Fat bastard" program designed by a fit person who has to wear the weight the entire time. I sound sarcastic but I'm being serious, that would fill a definite niche.
guys, it´s freaking awesome how much GROW you had in the channel! the video and editing quality MAN!! Incredible! Follow you guys for i don´t know, many MANY years and I´m ALWAYYSS so excited for the content you bring, thanks for helping me to be motiveted all those years!
I never understood it when people would make fun of someone who is overweight or think that they are physically weak and lazy. Overweight people that are still moving around are so physically strong and I'm glad that you're pointing this out. I'm sure most people wouldn't be able to last even the three days you did at 300lbs+. The main issue is usually diet cuz moving around at all at that weight is a workout in itself. I never reached 300lbs but being short and in the mid 200's was enough that when I did lose the weight you could really see how strong my legs were. People would constantly ask me if I played soccer cuz my upper body was pretty slim but my quads and calves were so disproportionally muscular. I would just always say, "I was overweight for most of my life💁♂" It would either cause confusion or the ones that knew, knew. In total I lost around 90lbs through changing how/what I ate alone before finally being comfortable going to the gym and adding 15lbs of muscle mainly to my upper body. I've been fat, I've been skinny, and now that I'm more athletic/muscular the way people treat you in each of those body types is night and day. Being in shape is really living life in easy mode. You can go about the world more easily, almost all clothes look good on you, and you get SO much preferential treatment both at work and in dating it's ridiculous. It's just a struggle to get there if you didn't start out that way. Don't try to do it all at once but start and stay consistent. Make the small changes, keep adding more, and don't look back.
Appreciate you giving my body weight a try. I’ve been struggling with this weight for years, and I completely understand why you stopped after three days. Even everyday activities like going to the gym, doing CrossFit, or tackling a moderate 40-minute 5K feel painful and daunting. I wake up every day wishing I could figure out how to get this weight off. Thanks for sharing this-it means a lot!
From someone who lost 90 lbs and regained it back again,I'm now 330, I understand everything you went through. However my muscle mass isn't anywhere near yours and I can't take my weight off lol just think about that for a moment. Thank you for this video. Made me more motivated to get back in the gym again
Lockdown and adjusting to two kids it was really easy to slide back into awful habits and reach for quick fixes and this former BUFF Dude is currently sitting at 315 pounds. It feels impossible to get back to "the way I was" only ten years ago when I first got serious about being in shape (with you guys' help) but I've been trying to get back into the basement gym and eating right and I manage it a couple extra days every week. This video gave me a lot of hope that I'll be turning it around and teaching my kids how to lift when the day comes, and who knows, maybe I'm still a bruiser underneath all of this pudge. Thanks, Dudes.
Just started my weight loss journey. Starting weight was 310 at 6’6”. After 2 weeks, I’m down 10 pounds. Thank you so much for the encouragement. It means a lot.
Man, I really appreciate you going through this for just a few days. I'm 6'7 and 335, and aside from a couple of years living in Hollywood, I've really struggled with my weight. This has inspired me to try and get this weight off and I hope this inspiration gets to more and more people struggling with these issues.
I weighed over 320 pounds at the start of the year and have gotten down to about 250 so far, with motivation and entertainment from your videos a part of that among many others. Some of the worst things about being that weight was sleeping - had to change my mattress out because I couldn’t get the support I needed at that weight on my old one. Would wake up with a dry mouth most nights from snoring so bad from the extra fat on my neck and generally just much more tired from bad sleep at that size. The other thing big was the pain in my body I had been ignoring until it started to clear up, just the constant ache in my joints from being that size
Thanks - I did have a couple of weeks where the scale didn’t move but mostly it has been pretty consistent aside from the first month where I basically lost twice as much weight I guess due to water retention. What helps me, and isn’t for everyone, is I weigh myself every day. This can be really demoralising for some seeing it go up and down but I’ve been working to a mindset that it’s just data - and I’ve not looked at changing what im doing unless things haven’t really been dropping for over 2 weeks. If I was weighing myself less often then there would definitely be a lot more weeks where it hadn’t moved on. End of this week for example I’m above where I was the end of last week, but I’m coming off 3 weeks of better than average drops so was expecting it
@@converseroo101 I weigh myself every day as well. Usually right when I wake up after using the restroom. It can be frustrating seeing the scale go up and down. But I have been at about the same weight for a couple weeks now. Perhaps cause my body has gotten used to the limited amount of calories? I’m at 1500 every day. Maybe I should lower it to 1400?
It might be worth a try - or looking at where else that 100 calories could come from like extra walking? Where I am it’s gotten a lot colder the past couple weeks so been difficult to convince myself to go out on a daily walk for steps but adding in a daily target helped me when I did stall for a couple weeks. If you have been losing weight for a long time and are already getting a lot of activity in and have cut back calories to the point where it is hard to stick with it then it might be worth a maintainence phase where you slowly increase your calories to your base level for a few weeks before dropping to a defective again. I’ve seen some people say this is worthwhile after 12-15 weeks of fat loss having say 8 weeks of maintainance before another 12-15 week loss cycle. This hasn’t been my necessary in my personal experience but have seen trainers who have worked with many higher weight clients talk about this (dr Mike israetel has some good videos on this)
2 years ago I was 315 lbs. I started losing weight by modifying my diet and portion sizes, and by being healthier overall. I got down to 255lbs now, where I've been hovering at. I started going to the gym a month ago, and now, surpring me, I am not dying by the time I've done just some warm up cardio. It's amazing what difference 60 lbs can make! I'm going to keep trying to break through this plateau. I don't think i'm ever going to get under 200; I'm 6 foot and pretty broad-chested, but I was hoping to get to 220. Someday. I actually really appreciate you having put in the effort to see what it FEELS like to be that heavy, not what it looks like. It did feel like I was struggling all the time. Respect.
This is the first time in maybe two or three years that I’ve tuned in to this channel. Kudos to you both for continuing the grind; wow you’ve both been really busy. I was shocked to see that you’ve built a new gym, quadrupled your content, and seeing Brandon’s girlfriend now looks safely over the legal age limit is a relief. 🤣 BTW, at age 59, I can’t run the way I’d like to anymore due to old football and rodeo injuries, so I had started doing 2 to 3 mile rucking sessions at zero dark thirty daily. I only use a 30 pound weighted vest walking at an 18 min per mile pace which puts me in zone two. Can’t imagine wearing 100 lbs. for a 12 hour day.
when i was 15 i was around 5'2" and 270lbs, it was hard to describe how discouraged i felt when seeing peers that seemed to tackle athletisism with ease. this video underlines the way i first and even sometimes now still feel given that im the same weight and 5'10".. thank you for showing the world.. even with that pain.. ill keep trying to get better.
I’m down 75lbs from 280 and I can confirm that last year literally everything was a daily battle by simply moving. I remember when I tried to sprint at that weight everything hurt, when I sprint now I feel light and like a kid again, that’s been the most surprising and powerful part of this experience.
About 4 years ago I topped out at 335lbs at 6'2", found myself bored to death during lockdown and picked up some old weights one day. Never looked back since. It's been a bit of a journey, learning how to work out in a healthy, regimented way without any pre-existing knowledge or anyone to ask besides the internet. After getting in to a good groove of working out I then changed what and how much I eat, though that's in some way still in progress. All that to say I've so far lost about 70 lbs, my journey is far from over, and really it never will be since I've found I genuinely enjoy lifting. I haven't seen many of your videos, and this one just popped up in my recommended today, thought I'd say thanks for what you do. Not for this video so much as encouraging people to be better. I wish you and your families all the best.
Gone from over 400lbs, sizr 48/50 jeans down to 190 (and dropping) over 10 years. Jeans now a 36. Buff dudes have been there along the way. Been that healthy is super unhealthy and everything sucked. Turning 42 and in the best shape ever, feeling good these days
Yes, that is the reason for so many of us having knee, hip, and spine problems for the rest of our lives. With rifle full ruck and all it can be upwards of 100 lbs.
I started out at 6'1 weighing 325 and the gym and working out and eating fresher food changed my life so much I don't even recognize the man that stares back at me in the mirror at 212. The buff dudes always bring me quality videos I can relate to and laugh with . It has kept me motivated with their skits and videos with how I feel and look to continue my exercise journey
I imagine that was extremely difficult. Adding 100lbs overnight is crazy. I think putting on 100 lbs over the course of months to years allows your body to adapt and get stronger to accommodate the weight. What you did is way harder
I love that you tried and made it 3 days. I am carrying 50-80 extra pounds and I want to provide a few insights after I gained 30 pounds again after losing it for my wedding. The worst part is not just the weight, but the location of the mass. Having a large portion in you belly specifically puts your hips in a tilt all day every day. And since it's not tight yo your body, there is a level effect pulling your hips more. That limits your range of motion in any exercise where you hinge or squat. Your lower back is a hair away from slipping all day every day from the tension. Now also imaging you belly hits your legs and prevents full range of motion on any non wide squat. Lunges are hampered. High knees are hampered. I have to choose exercise variations that lower the risk of injury every workout. Video idea, try to make a fat suit for your tummy out of clothes, once out a 3-5 inches put on the waist weights, but make sure they are above the hips. See if the placement of the weight plus bulk effect things.
Having lost 170'ish pounds and put some of it back on during and after pregnancy, this video is so relatable. Thank you for taking the "not a social experiment" approach.
"Every little thing feels like a chore." "I feel like I'm overheating all the time." "As much as I wanted to enjoy myself, I couldn't get my mind off of how uncomfortable I was." Two of the most common thoughts I had back when I was 80lbs heavier. I felt like I was constantly exhausted and for me personally, the worst part was the SWEATING. This of course led to crippling social anxiety. Being that overweight is absolute misery and becomes a vicious cycle of almost getting addicted to being sedentary and eating what's easy (ordering in, fast food, etc).
I weighed in at 320 pounds just a few weeks ago. The daily grind is a struggle. I like the video as it's NOT a condescending look at people my size. I kept hoping you'd try to take a distance walk or hike with the weight. That's my favorite exercise, but it's been harder and harder to do it as the weight has inched up. Great video.
While I don't really follow you guys much, I still want to extend a general thank you to the fitness community that is trying to make it more welcoming and encouraging. Watching other channels made it so when an opportunity came up, I took it to begin exercising regularly. The exercise I do is certainly on the lighter end, but I have felt improvements, and it's something I like and can see myself doing for years to come.
I just ran into this channel, as I have been on a weight loss journey myself. Im down 40 pounds in 6 months, going from 220 to 180, and getting my heart healthy again. One thing that I thought about was the effect of weight on sleep. Many overweight people have difficulty breathing at night. I've noticed that I have slept better being a lot lighter.
I’m female, 5’6, heaviest was near 300 lbs. I can’t work out due to chronic illness but I do try to move. I’ve been losing weight due to a change of diet (recently 220) but one thing that hasn’t been mentioned is just how much your own body gets in your way. It’s more than having trouble putting on your shoes, it’s not being able to scratch your back, it’s not being able to wipe yourself properly or perform other sanitary tasks because things are in the way. It’s kind of obvious that lugging around a whole other person is going to be exhausting. Being able to take care of yourself properly is something I’ve never heard mentioned. I’m doing what I reasonably can to lose this other person and not pick her back up. Good luck and good job to all yall who are trying to lose it and keep it off. Those already there, you’re doing great!
i weighed around 319,6 lbs at the end of january 2024 and am now down to about 286 lbs, it's finally a little easier to do the daily routines of going to work, grocery shopping and climbing stairs. I still got to lose 60 lbs, but that's a marathon I am willing to walk. Thank you Buff Dudes for giving tipps to change and inspiration.
Your message at the end was beautiful. I just found this channel a few days ago and have been going deep down the rabbit hole. Someone could easily see the name B.U.F.F. Dudes and see two massive, muscular guys and write the channel off as a dude bro gym rat channel, bud you guys are far more than that, you actually care about people, their struggles, their journeys, and just trying to help or at least understand them. I can’t commend you enough for that.
Only problem with this is that most folks don’t get to be 100lbs heavier over night. You could have done this by adding 20lbs a day every few days but then the experiment would have taken much longer.
I tipped the scales at 300 lbs once upon a time. I am 6'1". When you said it hurts to stand, you are always over heating, everything is just harder to do, and you feel gorss; you hit the nail on the head. I have been working out and dieting consistently for about 7 years. I am at a very different 225 lbs. My arms are juicy and my pecks only dance when I tell them to. Still working on the abs. Thank you for the years of awsome and motivating content.
July 2023. I was 440+ lbs. I got a major head injury and was actually convinced to workout not because I was fat but because it would have allegedly make my injury heal faster which It did, but soon after I realized how fast I was actually losing weight, I started being more happy on a day to day basis after that injury cleared up, I started enjoying to workout, then came November, I didn't a full BMI, and I was about 360-70 lbs. I started workout out harder and harder and harder. Which I now understand was horrible, but I became overly obsessed with weightloss on a day to day basis and had ao th where I went about 28 days in a row of 2 hours workouts. But I'm happy I drove myself that hard as here we are. March 2024 I am down to 278 lbs. Which means I am almost 170 lbs down in under a year. While losing that much in a given year isn't a good idea, I can't help but be happy and excstatic as I am going to shoot for making that a even 200 down by June. People over estimate how hard losing weight is. But it gets super easy. One issue I have is, I cannot do nowhere near as high of weights I could do back then but I'm happy that I can actually get out of my bed without it feeling like my spine was being torn out.
As someone that's currently over 320, seeing you spread the weight out definitely helped to experience what it's like to be overweight. most of the extra weight is around the hips, waist, and upper back. add the fact that every "bodyweight" exercise is essentially a weighted exercise and you start to see why being overweight is a downward spiral to a more sedentary life because even moving around is tiring.
Maaan this video moved me more than it should. I'm guessing its been around 10 years, I was overweight(more like overfat) and lost all my excess weight with you twos videos. I completely forgot how difficult life was back then, even the thing you said in this video "I feel like I worked out all day and I'm gonna go to gym and work out?" that sentence alone explains a lot about overweight people. Its hard man its really hard.
You guys gave me tips and content for hours. Things I could do better workouts and the whole yards. Cant thank you enough. Down 100lbs and aspiring to be a CrossFit athlete now. Remember to stay buff!!!
I used to weigh 420 pounds and really struggling with life in general. I needed to make a change. I stumbled upon your channel back in 2018 and watched video after video, and even picked up the cutting plan. I learned so much about nutrition and what to do in the gym and lost 170lbs. I messaged Hudson about it on Instagram a while back and he actually replied to me! Meant the world, you guys set me up with the foundational knowledge to change my life around, and I expect to live much longer and actually get to see my kiddo grow up.
I am 6'2" and I currently weigh over 370 lbs and it feels like everything I do is a workout. I have gone up and down weight like a yo-yo since my first time hitting 300 lbs my junior year in college over 20 years ago, I have gone from down as low as 220 lbs my senior year (lost in a very unhealthy way,) but then up again to over 300 lbs a year later, and the up and down and back up to my current weight with massive swings of 50-80 lbs at a time multiple times. I used to be able to lose 20-30 lbs in a month of dieting but now struggle to lose 5-10 lbs in a month no matter what I do. Honestly, I feel like have really given up at this point, as much as I want to get back to a healthy weight, I don't know what to do. Last year, I started doing Tae Kwon Do with my sons, and it had been getting my fitness level up, but I still was not losing any weight, and since I hurt my back a couple of months ago it has made it difficult to even keep going with that. I am starting physical therapy, and hopefully that will help, because I really want to be able to live my life without feeling exhausted all the time. I know if I could get back down under 300 I would feel like a whole different man again. I guess I just gotta keep going.
I used to weigh 230lbs and then lost 60lbs. I remember how quickly I'd get winded when weighing 230. It wasn't JUST that I was out of cardiovascular shape, but I was carrying so much weight around. You showed how even a fit person gets winded doing normal activities like walking around when carrying excess weight. Losing weight was the best thing I've ever done for myself.
i do really love this video an someone trying to see the other side of the fence about being big an trying to do things everyday an how it could be a struggle at times. it is a reason alot of large people get depressed or get depressed faster an just 1 little bit at less u didnt sleep with that vest on being large an sleeping with the weight sucks an make ur sleep feel bad or just waking up in more pain or sore.
I was up to about 265 at one point (at 6' tall) and felt absolutely terrible...seriously EVERYTHING was hard. I've lost about 30 lbs and feel SO MUCH better. I'm still a fat ass but just that little bit made A HUGE difference. Another 60-ish lbs on top of my heaviest would be absolutely brutal. Everything helps, everyone! Do what you can!! Little here, little there!!
I was 320 exactly at my heaviest in December of 2022 right before I turned 39, after being mostly fit for my life and packed on 100 lbs after going on Zoloft for a year (ssris are trash, never again) A year of CrossFit and now doing my own functional fitness programming and loads of zone 2 on top of it I'm down to 218 as of this morning and have recomped in the process to more muscle than I had when I was 25. It can be done but it's hard work every day, anyone out there who is fat, you can change, no more excuses.
Dude, the fact that you made this video today was perfect timing, cause I just seen bits of a documentary about a youtuber who's life was in shambles and one of the reasons was due to him being morbidly obese. A pretty good wake up call, keep up the good work you guys.
6'4'' formally 430 pounds, currently sitting right around 305. Your conclusions were a lot more on point than I would have expected prior to watching this, strap specific issues aside lol.
This moved me deeply and really gave me a great level of newfound compassion for what One's inside larger bodies feel like, think like, live like. Wow.
This was definitely really cool to see. I always struggled with my weight I remember in middle school getting up at five a m and going to the gym because I saw the buff dudes do it. I could never stick with it and i ended up around 330 in high school. A year ago something clicked and now I'm around 220. It's nice to remember how bad it felt then , and how good it feels now
40 yo here - having weighed 310 in the past year to a now 280 (and dropping, still), it's been eye opening how much better EVERYTHING feels, even sitting at a desk. Walking around carrying my son is no longer a chore, getting up from playing on the floor doesn't take mental preparation. It's insane how what seems like a few pounds can change everything.
I currently cracked the nut and figured out what works for me and I went from over 400 pounds at the end of April '23 to 265 currently. I still got a way to go to hit my goals. Losing all the weight to this point I can feel the impact it has on my body doing cardio, working out in general and just doing my everyday work and activities.
Cool experiment, and also, welcome to my life. It's a long story, but the cliff notes are that 1th of January my weight was 408lbs. I'm 6`7, 37 years old. And after training 3 times a weeks now since the start of the year, I'm down to 379lbs. My final goal is 250lbs. Wish me luck.
I hear ya. At 240 and need to get down to 180. You went up 100 lbs overnight so a bigger shock to your body than me, but can confirm.. waking up in the morning and getting out of bed you can feel the sluggishness and extra weight trying to move. Trying to follow the cutting plan and see where it takes me. Thanks guys
this hits close to home, I'm sad I missed the premier of this video.... Im currently 321.4 at 5'10 I started two days ago on my fitness journey. My last straw was when I couldn't tie my shoes without feeling winded. I thank you Brandon, AND Hudson! Much Love!
On the 8.12.2022 I weighted 104 kg (almost 230 pounds), I decided to change my life, because I was a mess and now I weight 74 kg (163 pounds) and feel great, my knees no longer hurt, my posture is better. I realized that weightloss isn't only about looking better, but the extra weight takes a toll on our joints too. Thanks for the vid Brandon. I watch you guys for years. 🙂
A few years ago I was 6 foot at 345 pounds, I was tired all the time, my joints constantly ached and was just miserable. I tried going the gym but could bearly bench 115 and forget about squatting, couldn't do 1 with good form even with just a 45 lb bar. Now I'm 312 lbs, lost 4 inches off my waist, I cut out processed "food" and as of a few weeks ago had a 1rm on my bench of 285 lbs. I feel so much better and still have so far to go but I'm so excited to see the results and I owe a great deal of that to channel's like this! Thank you so much for the honesty and laughs!
I used to weigh close to 300 lb 4 years ago. having a congenital heart condition and among other things, life was really rough. I found you guys after being fed up with feeling tired all the time and also wanted to be as healthy as I could given that I had a heart condition. The Buff dudes content really inspired me to go to the gym and exorcise healthy eating habits. Without you, my journey would have been alot harder and possibly I would have been in alot more rough shape. I'm in post heart surgery (year and a half) and have never felt better. Although I still have a long ways to go I have managed to loose 70 pounds. Thanks guys!
As a former 326lbs guy for over 6 years, the extra weight makes everything hurt, all of the time. Within the last year and a half I’ve dropped over 100lbs and am sitting at 212lbs, the difference is huge, and I feel better in every aspect, and my legs are jacked! Lol.
Thanks Dude. I lost 100 lbs last year and put 60 back on and man I can tell the difference. I'm currently back at it loosing again with diet and exercise and look forward to shedding that 60lbs and more. This is a great reminder of what I need to do to feel normal again. Great video.
thanks for doing a video like this. i topped out at 630lbs 5'10 in august 2022. i always wondered why so many people at my weight were in wheel chairs but i wasnt. obviously i didnt have an easy time getting around but i was determined not to be in a wheel chair. ive since lost 91 pounds officiallly in less than a year (july 2023) the only thing i can think of that effects obese people different as far as mobility and being in a wheel chair is muscle composition, ive always had a very physical job compared to most people my size, 8-12 hour days, lifting 25-150 pounds dozens upon dozens of times in that shift, as well as walking 2-5 miles per day. for those of you that struggle with weight, and want a change, the most important parts of your weightloss and health journey are this: NEVER give up. stay consistant. do it for you, and no one else. try different things to find what works for you. its not a race. and everyday wont be perfect nor does it define you.
This is enlightening. If a buff dude (lol) like you, has to tap out before you're even half way through a week, that really puts things into perspective for me. Thanks for the vid.
I recently purchased a 45lb weighted vest with extra heavy padded shoulder area...great piece of kit. Haven't seen your channel in years...Congrats on reaching 2.69M Subs.
As a person who is 5'5" (1.65m) and is 320lbs (22.857 stone); I applaud you for trying this. It's nice to see someone who is fit try to take on the heavier weight, even for a few days. It's not that heavy people are lazy, it's literally just harder to do everything. Because outside of having the extra weight, it's also the limited mobility that comes with being heavier. Your own body gets in your way and seems to fight against you.
@ZTFab1
In March of 2013 I weighed 300 pounds (height 6'2" age was 33) started eating clean lifting again, and running ( I competed in boxing, grappling l, and MMA)when I was younger) body weight was down to 205 by September 2013.
Shoot, I'm about 320 at 6'3" right now.
Most frontline fighter where 30-50 LBS for the whole day some times weeks. It's something that takes time to get use too.
I was 340 lbs in January 2023. I'm now down to 287. It feels amazing. Big thanks to you guys and and the entire UA-cam fitness community
Nice job brother! That’s a lot of progress!
Keep droppin' bruddah!
Wow good for you! Keep it up. Stay buff!
you struggle to get under 300? or was the decline in weight steady.
💪🏼💪🏼
Good job bro 👍👍👍
Wow. That's impressive. Proud of you
where do i find ther plans just found them
I lost 221lbs (max was 412lbs).
🙌🙌🙌 heck yea! GET SOME👊🔥
I was at 412 at my heaviest. Lost 200 in about a year and 3 months. Life is totally different.
@@-MakeItGood- Agreed and Amazing job, you were much quicker at it than I was for sure.
Please post an update after you gain all the weight back.
How come you just let yourself go? I dont understand how anyone can do that. Guess half of MERICA is dumb and fat
Yeahhhh!
Let's F'ing GO!!!! Great job!!!! 👏 👍
God Bless im so glad you're able to accomplish your goals over time with dedication, hard work, and will power!
TBF your body still doesnt jump immediately so its not as bad, but quite bad anyways
That's amazing Hani. Glad we could help play a part. Thanks for helping to inspire us as well.
@@buffdudes9:58
I bet his heart never got a break other than sleeping
also some interesting speculation on gravitostat sensors in the bones affecting leptin and other processes

Great vid!
wow impressive! How did you lose so much weight?
Thanks so much@@Hanakowasright It was a mixture of proper eating and exercise. I work out almost daily and do a mixture of weight training and martial arts.
@@RobbyMoTalks Im actually trying to lose weight/get into shape too, I walk an hour a day 4x15minutes 6 days a week and lift 4 days a week
Good luck and keep at it man! Your life should be in your hands!
@@noncog1 thanks man, I’m working towards my first goal of 250. After than next goal is 225. And that’s the weight my doctor wants me at so hopefully next Christmas I’ll be there!
@thatgtguy6729 you got this! Come back and give an update in like 6 months, let us know how much progress you've made
maybe do cardio or even just run/walk around/ uphill treadmill at conversational pace as well (fyi most people have to run and walk at the start to maintain low heart rate not just fat people) Really helps recovery or surviving a resistance training session
Good luck! Keep with it and don’t give up!
Lykke til. Jeg håper du finner motivasjonen og struktur i hverdagen og treningen til å oppnå det du ønsker!
You can do it bro! Never give up! It'll get hard, but as long as you don't give up, you'll achieve your goal! :)
Just started the video, im gonna guess the biggest thing you felt in this video is stress on your joints. I’ve gone from 465 to 188 in 6 years, and the biggest thing i have noticed since losing weight and exercising a lot is that my joints hurt significantly less.
Congratulations on losing 60% of yourself! Congratulations on losing more than TWO of me!
Great progress dude. Thats amazing.
Slaying out there!!! 💪💪💪
Thanks! I currently weigh 320lb and have been saying I’m gonna lose the weight for years. This video was exactly was I needed to show me how much better I will feel. Thank you very much for that.
We're happy to hear you enjoyed it. Best of luck, you've got this!! Please keep us updated! -Hudson & Brandon 💪
Hey Buff Club members, hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and hope you enjoy the video!
how tall are you?
You should do this again and but wear it even while you sleep
Thank you for the most empathetic take on this experiment. I'm 5'6", currently 306 but was 334 when I started 15 months ago. I'm a dad who has an office job, has to fix things around the home as well as for parents/in laws, the frustration shown is an everyday for me. I added weight lifting in August and hope to progress. Thanks for being inspirations!
Keep going man. Your kids need you around in their lives.
Keep it up, you got this!
Thanks! It's a day by day thing, keep going forward, even an inch is better than no movement.
@derrickdelmar4295 exactly. Some weeks are harder than others and things don't work out, but that just makes me more motivated to prioritize it next week. Good luck!
Sidebar - as a filmmaker I must give credit your filmmaking has gotten so well and the look/grading looks so above most youtube vids. Kudos guys
Keep it up bro! You'll see results sooner than you'd think!
One day at a time. One lb a week. Four lbs a month. Small steps leads to big changes.
You got this dude
You got this!! I went from 317 to 205. It's not a sprint, its a marathon. Slow, steady progress and you'll get there!
Great job dude. That's tremendous weight loss.
Holy shit dude you saved your own life - that's more impressive than any PR
You guys are one of the main channels that assisted me during the beginning of my fitness journey almost 3 years ago, and I'm constantly sending people you guys way! Keep up the great work, dudes!
When I saw the vid from you guys making the new gym and saw Brandon wearing the vest, I expected this video, but never that it wouls be 100lbs. Hell of an effort. Also almost shed a tear by the end. Thanks for all the content over the years, just in the middle of your bulking plan (again)
Thank YOU TJJ! And good luck with the second round of the bulking plan!
I'm at 340 now, I'm 6'3". When you said you felt uncomfortable that is exactly what it feels like. Always uncomfortable. Great video. Thanks guys.
3 years ago that was exactly me ! You can do this. I an currently at 220 and still dropping!
Is the discomfort of being hungry just more uncomfortable than the discomfort of difficulty mobility?
Congrats bro! brick by brick, day by day! Stay safe and continue your amazing journey!
Wow congrats
Still feel better overall thanks for keeping people aware of their health.
yeah this is not the same.

Awesome video!
Cheers!
I was going to make the same point. As someone who lost nearly 100 pounds before the bug, and gained back nearly 70 of it. It just sucks.
Yall can get to where you want to be. It hard af, but you're both capable of it. Wish yall the best!
I’m right there too fellas. Lost 140 pounds before Covid, then I’ve gained 100 back. We can do it!
@@nickmullins3451 you got it man!
You got this bro 💪
Yeah for real. The crater you make in a bed definitely becomes a problem.
Did you have any plateaus in your weight loss? I’m currently not seeing the scale go down so I’d appreciate any tips. Congrats btw! Keep going
BTW, at age 59, I can’t run the way I’d like to anymore due to old football and rodeo injuries, so I had started doing 2 to 3 mile rucking sessions at zero dark thirty daily.
You missed out on sleeping with the weight! You would have been so much more tired!
Don't Soldiers carry around 65-100 lbs of extra gear? Respect for our brothers in arms.
Fireman also carry a lot with their uniforms
Owww, that chafing looked very uncomfortable
Also as someone who grew up on DBZ, hard not to think of Goku's weighted training clothes.
Great video!
Thanks Jubbles! Yeah, the chafing was excruciating
The production just gets better and better
"Every little thing feels like a chore."
"I feel like I'm overheating all the time."
"As much as I wanted to enjoy myself, I couldn't get my mind off of how uncomfortable I was."
Two of the most common thoughts I had back when I was 80lbs heavier.
Now imagine weighing 450 pounds for years and recently lost 110 pounds and still carry more weight around. Its still a struggle every single day
I just ran into this channel, as I have been on a weight loss journey myself. Im down 40 pounds in 6 months, going from 220 to 180, and getting my heart healthy again. One thing that I thought about was the effect of weight on sleep. Many overweight people have difficulty breathing at night. I've noticed that I have slept better being a lot lighter.
I hope you're planning on releasing more music as well! looking forward to getting a copy of the 4th ed book :)
I found you guys during the lockdown period and haven’t given up. You are both awesome and thank you for your work over the years
I tipped the scales at 300 lbs once upon a time.
Its way harder to keep your weight rather than to lose it
As someone that's currently over 320, seeing you spread the weight out definitely helped to experience what it's like to be overweight. most of the extra weight is around the hips, waist, and upper back. add the fact that every "bodyweight" exercise is essentially a weighted exercise and you start to see why being overweight is a downward spiral to a more sedentary life because even moving around is tiring.
Thanks guys
Buff dudes still going strong with unique content. You love to see it!
this hits close to home, I'm sad I missed the premier of this video....
Great video.
thanks for doing a video like this. i topped out at 630lbs 5'10 in august 2022. i always wondered why so many people at my weight were in wheel chairs but i wasnt. obviously i didnt have an easy time getting around but i was determined not to be in a wheel chair.
ive since lost 91 pounds officiallly in less than a year (july 2023)
the only thing i can think of that effects obese people different as far as mobility and being in a wheel chair is muscle composition, ive always had a very physical job compared to most people my size, 8-12 hour days, lifting 25-150 pounds dozens upon dozens of times in that shift, as well as walking 2-5 miles per day.
for those of you that struggle with weight, and want a change, the most important parts of your weightloss and health journey are this:
NEVER give up.
stay consistant.
do it for you, and no one else.
try different things to find what works for you.
its not a race. and everyday wont be perfect nor does it define you.
Love that you guys keep on improving your content & physiques, all these years. Man!
