We're Adam and Steph, we're a British Art couple that love to make art together despite both having disabilities. Adam is colourblind and Steph has a neurological disorder which means she has a tremor, this throws some extra obstacles our way when it comes to creating art but we still enjoy the process anyway! The only thing I know about animation, is from watching Karina from Drawfee give an animation drawclass stream that is uploaded as a vod on youtube.
but then again, I'm still a complete beginner at digital art, anyway

BE MORE CONFIDENT ADAM!!! animation is hard, but it's really fun! I'm at the point in my animation uni course, were I'm making my first animated film! Its only about a minute long, but it's taking a while to finish lol😅

Cool doodle date episode. I love the procreate girl and her head of hair. Last week on Sunday I almost died. My daughter saved my life. And the doctors. I am so glad and thankful for them.

@katelillo1932 Thank you. My daughter rocks. She took one look at me and knew I needed to be in the hospital. I was intubated. After a couple of days, the doctors removed the breathing tube. Three days later, I am home and on oxygen.
You're already a composer. You've composed a piece of music and shared it with the world. I personally love it!
I've always been afraid of animation - it seems too complicated - but those had made it feel much more approachable!

I got to animate in Photoshop a bit in college for a few assignments for my graphic design degree and I actually made a lot of physical flip books on post it notes as a kid! To this day most of the sticky note pads in my house have some doodle on them that I made a flip book out of lmao. You guys should try it, it's super fun!
I love when you share your music and thoughts adam :) it feels very personal and poetic.
Also I like the animation feature in regular Procreate! It's very bare bones but that's kinda what I like about it bc I'm just animating a bouncy ball or run cycles lol. But I've started to look at it with more appreciation recently once I learned Yoh Yoshinari from Trigger uses it in the studio to make professional anime..?!

I've only dabbled in animation. It's something I want to get back into and maybe Procreate dreams is the way to do it. I reminds me of the old old old old animation program I played with in high school with how it's done.
It was a lot of fun to use, and didnt feel stressful... well, the first part did where i didnt know where anything was but after that we all good LOL

I thought this was going to be a week of you learning to animate and then you said a day! That flip book feature is awesome, it does make it look so much less daunting even just as a viewer.

I'm taking a course on professional illustration and we had a module where we had to make a short frame by frame animation this year. I was supposed to use Procreate, but I don't own an iPad, so my professor let me go with Ibis Paint X on my Samsung tablet. It's pretty good and you can do decent things with the free version of the app. I also wanna try animating with Krita when I have the time. The software is 100% free and it's my favorite digital drawing tool, so it would be really nice if I like it for animation too.
Oh, I forgot to mention. It was my first time animating and I was super scared, BUT luckily, my boyfriend is a professional animator and he gave me all the tips and helped a lot. I'm a really lucky person to have him to help me. He said he will teach me everything he knows in exchange for lots of kisses, haha! My sweetheart 🥰

Highly recommend working on the basics like bouncing ball in different directions and using the flour sack method to learn things like jumping and character movements.

I was thinking it would be fun to download Procreate Dreams, but I’ve been a bit discouraged…however when you showed us the flip book feature, that flipped something in my brain and told me I can probably do this, too! Thank you, Adam! (And Steph - for making this challenge for Adam, hehe!) You two rock. I was at a sketchbook meetup this weekend and I was raving about you two. Honestly as soon as i found the flipbook feature as well everything clicked so much better for me as well LOL Id recommend it, it really wasn't hard to get the hang of the basics at all :D

I wish I could afford procreate but all I can use are the free programs. Procreate is the best for those cool watercolor effects
I totally agree and the fact you can make your own brushes for it as well is a real plus point, steph had an amazing time making her own!

Hi, I'm a beginner animator on procreate dreams before. Animation is something I want to do in my life, and seeing yours starting out as a beginner really made me smile. I can tell that you put a lot of effort, it's not easy. But once you get the gist of it you start getting better, I hope to see more of it when it comes :]
It seems some people aren’t to fond of procreate dreams because it “lacks” features. But for someone like me who enjoys animation in general and need basic functions, dreams is a gift!✨
and for the price tag i really cant complain, this was really fun to use!

I took both Animation I and Animation II courses at community college when I was working towards my Associates degree. One of my favorite assignments was animating water droplets! I liked the environment animating more than character because it wasn't as easy to mess up lmao 😂

UA-cam tutorials. I wouldn’t even start without tutorials. Frame by frame in regular procreate is different from dreams, the fun stuff is easy to miss.
This is so cool! I've had my eye on dreams since it was announced but haven't taken the plunge and bought it yet. Seeing someone, like me, who isn't as familiar with animating really assists to see if it'd be a good investment to use.

I've made a few short animations, but I think that's where I stop personally! I don't mind doing them as a cute loop but otherwise it's so much work and I end up hurting my back by shrimping- admittedly that's my own fault but.

I enjoy using Procreate Dreams. I was able to make a super fun short with it. It definitely could use some improvements but I think those will happen eventually.
I’m working on my final and i heard the piano music. Adam if you wanted to you could sell that as background music or do music compositions. I feel like your piano music is very cinematic! Keep going in animation and in your music!!

If you are looking to improve your animation skills, I highly recommend learning the principles of animation. It's a series of 10 or so basic "rules" that you can use to make your animations more lively and visually interesting!
These are very simple and especially for some who's got as much time and experience with art as you two have, you likely got a head start in the game.
Patience is my other tip, haha😅

That new piano composition was beautiful. Feels really emotive and calming. I definitely don't mind it being another piano song. I only made piano music for years before starting to add strings and orchestra since my instrument is piano. Music is such a beautiful thing and I've used making it a lot in the past as an outlet for tough feelings.

I really like the animation you did Adam ^^ I have always been interested in animation and I have dabbled a bit with FireAlpaca to create short gifs or animations in the past but nothing else. I think what's good about Procreate Dreams is that you can actually animate wherever you want and can technically animate references in front of you so to speak (like steam curling from a cup of coffee in a cafe, to the leaves in autumn falling gently to the ground to even a doggo playing in the park )

I did animation at uni a very long time ago, but it was all 3D, and I didn't enjoy that as much as I do 2D. I also used to make animated user icons in Photoshop, and I have done a little animation similar to what you've done here, but again, that was some time ago. But I did enjoy it a lot. I've always been into animation which is why I studied it at uni, but it turns out I didn't want to do it for a career.
When I was in college, the first thing we animated was a bouncing ball. You started out with something way more difficult and did a great job. Much respect, Adamo. 👍🏽

I've animated (mostly a LONG time ago!) using keyframes, 2D and 3D, but... well, animation and me don't mix well. :P I really enjoyed the song - will you be putting it up on Soundcloud soon? I would really like to listen to it again and again. :)
Hullo U2! I do enjoy watching your videos! Adam, I am just so impressed with the progress you have made in just the one day! I have almost completely eliminated the digital workflow that once dominated my art life! I am back to paint and paper. I have even tried the oil painting sheets of gessoed canvas it is just so easy to paint studies for bigger/ future projects! I have done animation on paper and digitally, the paper cartoon was back in 1975! I did a digital commercial for a client that asked for help from the design firm that I was working at in 2001. They were happy, I felt like I could have done better, but time is such a factor and they wanted it done so last week! The manager said that animation was not really what we did but they were sent to an affiliated company, they were happy and so was I as I was not asked to do more animation. Oh this was long before an inexpensive screen tablet, even before the iPad was created! I think you did a phenomenal job Adam I hope you finish a short clip, please remember that we really want to see your completed clip!

@@DoodleDate Well I had to do a lot of different "jobs" to keep my bills paid! I do not live in or near a big city and I had to hustle to make ends meet! I even took a job or two out of town when I was younger, before I got married. I did the majority of my art life before the internet, I consider myself quite lucky in this respect! You guys are so great and I do appreciate your videos!

I've done animation before a bit. It's really hard, very scary. Especially if consistency is an issue as much as it is for me. Can't draw the same thing the same way twice haha.
Ooh I might finally get the dreams after this, I was a bit wary because I know it's still missing some stuff but this have me a kick to try it finally! Need to animate some scrungly iisjahs 8D also animating in Photoshop is hell XD you need to be on top of your layers so much (saying that I did a couple Photoshop animations in the past)
OMG how did you manage iisjah? there must of been a million layers LOL
@@DoodleDate it's so HARD! MILLION LAYERS plus if you create a new layer it's visible on ALL key frames and you have to go manually to each one and hide it aaaaaa
Wait till you learn how to do performance mode, it makes animating things 10X easier!

My photoshop program is from 1997, and used to animate gifs in Image Ready kinda like what Steph mentioned. I do not do it much anymore.
Omg id love to use a 1997 version, i think the oldest version ive ever tried was CS!
My friend heres a tip: watch Anime where the hair is blowing in the wind. Pause it and foward it so you can see each frame. Keep practicing and you'll get there. I would give your animation attempt a 6/10 👍🏻
