@DoodleDate that was one of the best things I ever learned to do with knitting and crocheting- learn to recognize what I'm looking at and what I've done. Way to go!
If you don’t have any stitch markers, I recommend them for this amigurumi type of crochet. It’s a lot easier to count and keep track of where you’re up to when you can put a marker in the end of each row.
I love Adam's excitement about the crochet plushies.

Adam! When youre talking about owning your art mistakes and not using your eraser - one of my proudest sketchbooks was completed ENTIRELY in pen. There are definitely some messier drawings and stuff but i learned SO MUCH and now my drawing and sketching is so confident! ❤😂

Steph it's so amazing to see your crochet work well done!!! And Adam your front cover is brilliant!!
One thing I did notice that might help you with your crochet is that your work is inside out atm (at 11:40 for example). Totally fine if you like it that way, but some beginners get frustrated because it can make it harder/different to do some techniques and they have no idea why. You can tell because the starting yarn tail will be on the outside if it's inside out. Happy crocheting!!

I am very impressed by the crochet progress! I love how Steph decided that the sphere looked more like a space fruit, so that's what it became. Happy Accident mentality is definitely required when learning a new skill because you can end up with things that are more special than a perfect sphere. Keep us updated on what else you come up with, I am very excited to see!

I love that your starting crochet projects are plushies. As an ADHD crocheter I found granny squares and other projects too repetitive to learn on and nearly gave up. Once I tried an amigurimi it all came together for me. The constant changes in row counts while keeping the same stitch type made it engaging enough to do a whole project. I’ve been crocheting for over 10 years now and still struggle with the “same same” type projects like blankets, clothes and shawls. Unless they’re an intricate pattern.
Hahah everyone keeps trying to send me patterns to things like granny squares and scarves but they don't excite me- but AMIGURUMI. I've discovered I will jump over hurdles to make a lil guy ^u^
This cheered me up so much! I love the little dinosaur, but I'm sooo happy about Steph's crochet. I started to crochet myself this Monday, so I've been at it for a week, to distract from sucidal thoughts and stop doomscrolling, I figured my hands need something to do. I've also been making so many magic circle things, dice pouches and tiny 3d mushrooms largely! It really motivates me to see someone else show their genuine beginner projects. Also, on the topic of mushrooms: If you think slime mold isn't impressive, you should research it! It's intelligent, can solve mazes, survives pretty much an anything, is made up of thousands of individual organisms, moves about the place and isn't even technically a fungus and definitely not mold. I love slime mold ❤️

I tried crocheting a blanket once and it was shaped more like a poorly cut slice of pizza. I’m always impressed when someone can crochet something in the shape they intended!

the crochet things are so cute. On the note of the cheap yarn I would personally advise against buying acrylic fibers cause they dont decompose and synthetic fibers are one of the biggest contributors to micro-plastic pollution right now. Its mostly a thing with fast fashion clothes and synthetic fishing lines but I like to avoid synthetic yarns whenever possible just cause I feel like its best to keep that stuff to a minimum in whatever little ways I can
I almost always have my hands in t-rex position if I'm not actively doing something with them. I love Steph's little fruit!! Amigurumi is so cool it's wild to me how much you can do with some yarn and hooks

Very impressed with the crochet, I’ve been doing it since I was like 6, and I’ve always been good at clothes and blankets and tapestries but plushies are way out of my comfort zone so that’s amazing

Oh! Little berry buddies!!! They're round in spirit even if not totally round in shape, but mistakes are part of the process!
The having to work with mistakes is why I like life drawing in pen- really forces me to think about where I'm putting my lines!
so proud of you for sticking with it and working hard on your crochet! it's totally worth it in the end as you can see the improvement and i love the little fairy berry fruits, it's come out so cute! i personally love the cheap yarn (for the way that i crochet plushies, it works best) but i know most people can't stand it, so it's not just you.

I am so late to the video but waaaaah everything is so exciting! Dogs with Jobs, crochet sus aubergines - what a great time to hang out with doodledate.
I've only been crocheting for about a year now, and I think you're doing wonderfully so far! You've learned so much so quickly! Also, sorry if this is something you already know, Steph, but when crocheting something 3D, it tends to want to fold so you're working on the wrong side, which can be a lot harder to do. After the first few rows, it's good to flip the project inside out so that the starting tail rests inside the shape. Although whichever way works best for you is great! I had to try wrapping the yarn around my fingers so many different ways before I found one that worked for me. So it's definitely different for everyone.

Nicely done steph!! There are tons of free amigurumi patterns online btw. You could also prolly find patterns to crochet stuffed guinea pigs. (Just sayin')

my first (and only) crochet project i've made was supposed to be a little strawberry but it turned into more of a chili pepper, so i feel you Steph. 😭❤
My cat's also been bothered by the blustery blowing of the wind recently. She's spent a lot of time in my knee under my blanket (often with a sketchbook out pencil case balanced on top of her) as that's where she feels safest. She's like a hot water bottle so it's helpful for me too!
I often draw with my hands pulled in like trex and when I'm on the sofa. Keeps my lines steadier.
My dog hates it when it's windy (all of my past dogs have hated it, too.) He had an awful time over Christmas that it made him unwell.
aw I hope he's feeling better now.

I’m a big fan of Adam’s handwritten title. The negative space in the cover reminds me of Kipper the Dog. I say to keep it because the title suits the style of the coloring book.

@DoodleDate also, if you find the hooks start making your hands ache because of how thin they are and can't get/don't like the ergonomic ones, get some self adhesive bandage and just wrap it around the hook. Feels weird to begin with but definitely helps x

If your hands ever get achy when you crochet (or knit), try switching to yarn made from 100% wool, since it's warming it's easier on the hands. It might be a bit more expensive but it's worth it and sometimes possible to find in second hand stores.

I do T-Rex hands a lot (although I’ve always called them Raptor hands lol). But I mostly do it with my left arm since I’m a righty and I usually only use my right.
Edit: That poor Dino looks so sad 😢 (but it’s very cute! Good job Adamo!)

Make sure to give your hands a break and do hand stretches! I have carpal tunnel and tendinitis and crocheting too much really makes my hands hurt if I don’t stretch and take frequent short breaks
Crocheting in rounds has been really helpful for me with taking regular breaks, whenever I finish a round I celebrate by putting it down and doing something else! I wish I had discipline this good with drawing though, its hard for me to know when to take breaks with that LOL

I'm obsessed with dinosaurs! I also walk around with t-rex arms all the time, i do it without even noticing. I stopped doing it for a while though because at some point my father made fun of me for it and it made me hyperconcious of it for a few years 😅
