I have a friend who uses a cane and she said that the one she has now, with a bottom that looks like a little tiny 4 legged table is so much nicer than using a regular walking stick. When she tried to use a regular one, she said it would always slide out from under her/slip away instead of supporting her. Just wanted to pass it along because of Steph's recent sharing of the stick in case it could help anyone looking into mobility aids!
I do digital when I want to tryhard and make everything perfect, everything is just the way I wanted. With traditional art there are so many things you can't control and you can't erase everything so if you let go of perfectionism and experiment a little, you can achieve really nice effects that you didn't expect! Also the feeling of putting down paint on paper/canvas is just soo relaxing.
Agreed, as a digital artist going back to traditional roots, it's so much more relaxing! compared to rubbing my eyes from digi-drawing for too long / being unable to notice my style progress as clearly as traditional
I think cass art are actually fairly good!! What I’d love to see you try is the new shore and marsh range that I’ve just seen pop up in hobbycraft over the last month. My hobbycraft has little tins and up to 48 and I’d love to see what you think of them! They weren’t too expensive. I have fancy Paul Reuben’s ones so I didn’t buy any but I think it’d be cool to try! And see if they’re good
@@DoodleDate there’s been so many new stuff!!!! This shore and marsh brand super intrigued me! I’ve seen the watercolour palettes I mentioned but also brushes, bags and paper!!! I know you love testing art brands so I thought I’d tell ya about it!
Paper sizes in Australia and UK and many other places are the same, paper sizes in the US are different, not sure what other countries use US sizing 🤷♀🤷♀
In the US we use sizing like A4 as well, especially as an artist in school it is referenced by saying A4 and such, but also just via the measurements, depends really haha
Also I really really love my posca pencil crayons. I love both your art pieces but for myself I'm on team rugged. I love buying from cass Art, jackson's and graffcity. Feels good to see so much creativity born in the UK.
nothing better than coming home and cozying up with a doodle date video- it's crazy to think that I must have been watching you guys for 7 years like whaaa where does the time go! your videos have always been super comforting! :)
I honestly love Cass Arts💖 I haven't tried out their watercolour selection yet, but their markers, finliners, and little sketchbooks are very good, especially if you're on a bit of a budget (summer sales baby!)
Oh yea I really enjoy OG videos like these where you review a Product. Really honoured I got to be there when Steph Swatched these IRL. Also got to see some of Adams And Steph Sketches and Art they look so cool in person. Glad you enjoyed the Art-supplies and ghost. Love you guys! Ps. Team Smooth!
For traditional vs digital, I find traditional more calming because of the feel pencils, markers, and brushes. There’s something about that interaction that takes me to another place. I also find it easier to problem solve or figure out techniques traditionally because of that physical interaction. As for smooth vs rugged for watercolours, I’m team rugged. I love seeing the paper texture for watercolour. In the middle for coloured pencils, a balanced amount of texture and smooth. Markers and smooth pair like pb and j.
Those paints look nice but for 40pound which is $80 where I live I’d rather buy a set of 48 pans from winsor and newton when their on sale since the set comes with a nice paint brush and in a plastic case which I prefer over the metal ones. Your guys pictures are amazing been watching doodle date for years.
Have you tried Bockingford paper? That's my fave cellulose watercolour paper so far. And they have some different coloured paper too! There's usually tester packs of Bockingford paper at art stores if you wanted to try it out.
I ordered the paintbrushes before you'd finished 'introducing' them. So exciting! I can't always get my pencil and cutlery grips to work on paintbrushes and the hand pain and weakness means painting has to occur in short bursts. 😊
@@DoodleDate I also ordered some Royal and langnickel ones that popped up when I put them in my basket so I'll be able to test them against each other!
@ doodle date I am so glad to see you are back and safe, hugs for you both. Thank you, Adam for your help with how to store my graphite pencils. I have my own collection of erasers now too. We had to do a swatch of our pencils for a value scale assignment and I thought of you and your dislike for swatching. I am taking a Color Theory class in the Fall. Final is next week.
HAHA I think swatching pencils is probably the most acceptable swatching i can think of! Good luck with your class as well Erika, we're both rooting for you :D
My favorite color is hot pink. When my grandson was little he loved pink also! We found out later he is color blind. So he actually saw pink as grey. Not a pink partner at all🤣🤣🤣
I love traditional media. Watercolor is my favorite because it is so chill to do. You have to take time, let layers dry, be surprised and such. I do love my procreate journey, but it feels like I need to get more done in the same time, still great for doodling on the go though.
Before the Brexit I have ordered from CassArt including a acrylic gift set which came with a bag that say „Let s fill this town with artists“ but this paper size bag is way cooler
omg, im so happy i’ve been getting your channel in my recommended feed again! i grew up with your channel literally 7-8 years ago , i remember watching your first videos back within the first year of doodle date and rewatching them many many times again when i was bored. its just nice to see you two still together, creating art, and living life happily with your guineas despite all of lifes hard days. i hope you both have a great day 🫶 ps. , back when i was younger i drew some fan art of you both and never got to send it to you, mainly due to procrastination and being a child lol. but you guys were some of my favorite childhood youtube artists. i just hope you guys realize how much of an impact you have given on people. 💗
I think those paints look great for the price!! and I loooove how you can see the texture of the paper in old Ken Sugimori art 😊😊 I'm also super jealous of that tote bag now haha. maybe someday when I learn to sew, I can make something like it for myself!!
Something about the warmer weather really makes me wanna use more watercolor again... after this video especially! Loved the painting, Sugimori is also a huge inspo to me in terms of watercolor!
I’m not a Green person but those swatches of Green are exactly what I have been looking for. 💙 My son uses pencils with grips so I will be getting those brushes with those grips. Thank you guys for another fantastic video 💙
Team Rugged for Watercolour. Team smooth for Gouache and Watercolour Pencil crayons! Traditional artwork feels more satisfying to do. Just when you finish it's like I made this and it's physically in my hands. Also the pressure of not messing up or adapting with mistakes makes it more fun too.
Team rugged… badum tish 😂😂😂 Also I love love love love love that we got a video with watercolour pieces inspired by things w process filmed by the both of you ❤❤❤ no pressure i term of “you have to do this thing I like more” I just appreciate having this today ❤❤❤
It was great seeing you two paint again! Your videos in the past made me pick up watercolour when I was in college and I also worked with them again recently. It’s very calming using watercolour. I think it’s really cool to see cass art products as I’ve been in a physical store but never picked any supplies up so it’s really cool to see their products in use. Thanks for another great video I’m glad you two seem safe after last week!
From what I've tried, Cass Art's own brand sable watercolour brushes are really great. Really smooth and silky. My nicest brushes since I don't splash on brushes and they were a good price. Their watercolour paper is also reliable and a great price, have a block of 50 that's lasted years. However, I bought a set of their basic acrylic paints because I wanted a simple set I could take to and from college and they are pretty awful. The primary red is like a dull tone which makes it impossible to get any bright reds, and the cyan is too bright and has a really synthetic look to the colour. The yellow is very synthetic looking too, but is more okay as a primary colour. The white is quite transparent, which was actually good for what I was using it for sometimes, but not good for reliability lol. I was quite let down because usually I have decent expectations for their own brand stuff. Love their shops though, and they do have really good sales, recently got some major bargains.
I’m SO JEALOUS of your York Ghost Merchant ghostie! 😍💖 I’m from Canada and stalk the website in hopes they will post them online to snag! 😂 I love this video and am glad to see you both really like the watercolours!
I discovered Cass Art recently, the bags are so cool but I just stuck with getting the inks I was looking for. Their delivery is more expensive than other sites I buy from so haven't been back. I love the little ceramic ghost, and the painting is adorable. 😊My son is on his way to York at the moment, he won't mind a being in a haunted city 😊
Chiltern Wove is a super cheap paper brand, but I've always thought the quality was okay. I mostly often see their products in The Works. I recently bought some alcohol markers from Cass Art in a sale, and I'm pretty impressed with them. I've also been a fan of their heavyweight cartridge paper for a few years now.
This video is the only time I’ve ever seen Chiltern Wove, apart from an old pad of it that I had! To be fair…I really, really disliked it, but then I use a lot of water and wet-in-wet techniques in my watercolour painting, whereas Adam works in a much less soggy way than I do. It’s good to see that it’s useful for other artists, even though I didn’t enjoy it. Both Adam and Steph’s paintings look awesome as usual!

Yooo that bag IS amazing!! Canvas bag with extra pockets that are also a cool design feature? Incredible
