  • 100% chance of sun they said. Mont Blanc will look glorious they said. They were wrong. So wrong.
    One supposedly sunny day in Chamonix, we set out on the Via Ferrata des Evettes (Via Ferrata des Evettes - La Flégère Chamonix-Mont-Blanc), which is a hiking and via ferrata route known as having some of the most spectacular views of Mont Blanc in the entire Chamonix area. Welp, as we all know, conditions in the alps can change rapidly, and today was an excellent example of this. Despite getting caught in a massive chilly fog, this was still an awesome day of hiking, adventuring, and it is one via ferrata we know will be spectacular on a clear day!

    You know it's sketchy when Elise & Adam are starting to question whether certain "airborne" structures are just a tad questionable ! 😁

      Haha ya John it's really funny -- we could be 3000 feet up straight up and feel pretty safe if we're holding solid granite, but put us just a couple hundred feet up on a wobbly tightrope bridge and we both feel a little scared 😂 Adam always tells me they maintain the via ferratas very well in France, and for the most part they do, but that detached cable in the middle of the bridge definitely gave me some doubts! ❤️ --E

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  3 місяці тому +1

      Hahaha I know! It's so funny because a lot of people don't mind the bridges and are scared of the 3000 foot drops in places like Daubenhorn, but for both of us those man-made tightropes are the scariest! It's because they're so wobbly, so they just feel super sketchy when you're on them. But to be fair, they're also really fun! ❤️

    Adam & Elise, don’t you know Europeans have different classifications for sunny weather events? There’s sunny with snow, sunny with rain and sunny with all the above. But sunny, as most of us in So. Cal. would understand, doesn’t really exits in Europe.
    Perhaps on a typical sunny day Vis Ferrata Des Evettes would be considered a moderate climb however, add poor visibility & wet conditions to the mix and you have a high adrenaline activity.
    Climbing on wet rock & steel cables is dangerous all the way around. Not only are the rocks & cables extremely slippery but the minimal, fall prevention equipment can respond differently to inclement weather. It’s tricky and requires special finesse. Yet, you guys rose to the occasion once again (mostly safe) and entertained us along the way. Great work!

    What a neat climb atmosphere!
    I’ll add it to my VF Bucket List!
    TIP: You can just turn and go sideways on the tightrope section… super simple bc your feet aren’t parallel to the line (it makes you facing the upper wire and also looking at the rock face). You guys definitely did it the hard way. When you do a sideways walk across it- it’s quicker and easier. I love to hook off with my shorty and free hang on the bridges! Nothing better than a fun Via Ferrata!!!

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  3 місяці тому

      Totally agree, Kim -- VFs are the best!!! Wait, but given that the wobble is from side to side wouldn't turning sideways make it worse? Julia that is so great to hear! I'm currently doing a lot of indoor top-roping and bouldering to work on my skills, which I enjoy a lot, but for us nothing compares to doing an epic via ferrata! We've done videos on lots of the really big European ones, like Daubenhorn, Konigsjodler, and tons in the Dolomites. Hope those will give you lots of inspiration -- you will absolutely love doing the VFs!!! --A

    OMG, the tightrope bridges would be a hard NO for me!! I notice Adam's feet are straight while Elise does a sort of side step across. Different techniques or do you even notice? Elise, how about a tray of food in your right hand the next time you cross? Love you guys.

    ELISE and ADAM a hello from France. Wow the Alps ! One of your adventures that gives you chills and vertigo, what courage and professionalism to tackle its peaks lost in the fog, and to take the monkey bridges that can only be summed up by a simple steel wire. You are on a first-name basis with the clouds, and what a beautiful emotion to hear the voice of ELISE that accompanies this superb video. I liked the few words in French, ELISE's "bonjour" and ADAM's "boite aux lettres". I hope ADAM you haven't suffered too much from your injury. Kisses to both of you. DAN
    ELISE et ADAM un bonjour de France. Waouh les Alpes ! Une de vos aventures qui donne le frisson et le vertige, quel courage et quel professionnalisme pour vous attaquer à ses sommets perdus dans le brouillard, et pour emprunter les ponts de singe qui se résument que par un simple fil d’acier. Vous avez tutoyé les nuages, et quelle belle émotion d’entendre la voix d’ELISE qui accompagne cette superbe vidéo. J’ai aimé les quelques mots en Français, le « bonjour » d’ELISE et la « boîte aux lettres » d’ADAM. J’espère ADAM que tu n’as pas trop souffert de ta blessure. Bises à vous deux. DAN

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  3 місяці тому

      Stoked that you like the VFs! It's probably our favorite type of single-day adventure -- just so much fun and exhilaration without excessive risk! Totally agree about helmet cams. We of course tried it at one point, but quickly figured out that we are both way too perfectionistic about our shots to do anything other than hand-held (and perhaps drone at some point). The only time we might want to try a helmet cam again is for a rollicking POV glissade for something like that -- other than than, the shots just don't measure up. ❤️

    Oh this is way cool! Thanks for saving this one for us from last year! Question: Are you wearing normal hiking shoes or do you wear approach shoes or ? when doing a via ferrata like this?

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  3 місяці тому +1

      That's a great question Dan, and for us the answer is definitely approach shoes. Any time we have to do vertical faces we go with approach shoes, because over the years we've found that it gives us much better traction. Of course, that can backfire if it gets super cloudy and wet and slippery, which is what happened to Adam on this one. But we go with the best information we have at the time, and it was supposed to be a sunny dry day so we wore the approach shoes without any hesitation. ❤️

    Those bridges! I would have cried like a baby in the middle and be mad at the same time 😅 is the rope you have clipped on strong enough in case you slip? Trying to figure out where to go this summer. The Alps or Dolomites again, but another area...that little bird at the end vanishing in the mist❤

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  2 місяці тому

      Haha I know! Yes the good news is that we're clipped in with our via ferrata tethers, so if we had slipped we would have been perfectly fine. But for some reason it feels different on those bridges because the fear in the back of my mind is always what if the whole bridge collapses! It's not logical, but somehow those bridges just feel scary. BTW we really loved the Austrian Alps -- you might want to check out the Dachstein Glacier area if you haven't yet. Was a great addition to our Alps and Dolomites adventures! ❤️
