The Impossible Hike: Austria's Konigsjodler Klettersteig
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 лип 2023
- When Adam heard our Austrian friends call the Konigsjodler Klettersteig to Hochkonig the "impossible hike", there was no way we WEREN'T going to do this one. Well, it turns out there's a good reason for this hike's nickname - it. was. tough. 5,000+ feet of climbing up steep cliff faces and along via ferrata with absolutely insane views and even more insane drop offs. Now that's our kind of hike!

Another crazy awesome climb! I couldn't imagine being the climbers who put in the stakes and cables! Thanks guys, glad you made it safely!
Thanks Harlan, and guess what? When we got toward the top we actually saw the guys who do that! They were installing a new cable starting from the top down. They were all really fit, of course, and took a break for a couple minutes to talk to us. They told us the original cable that we'd climbed up on was about 20 years old, so it was time for a new one. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard that's very cool!
Also, the original construction is actually is a cool story. It was mostly built by a single guy over several years!
@@thorstenreitz7302 That is totally amazing! Wow, thank you for sharing that. It makes the whole route even more impressive.
Man your hikes and climbs keep getting wilder and wilder!
Yes! That is what happens when I let Adam have a 3 hour conversation with two badass Austrian mountaineers while descending Mont Blanc. By the end of the conversation he was like "Elise, we gotta add another week in Austria!" So we did, and will have another crazy one coming at you for next week! ❤️ --E
I messaged you guys yesterday on Instagram, about Murren in Switzerland 🤣 that place ain't got nothing on this place🤣
@@LiveHardxLoveHard FULL SEND!
Another crazy one coming up ? Hope it's the ones around Seebensee- Coburger Hut. Spectacular views there and some extreme ferratas to suit!
@@radudragos1795 That is a great suggestion, and we will almost for sure do that next year! This year it's actually the Postalmklamm klettersteig, which is an amazing and beautiful trek along canyon walls that includes some swimming about half-way through!
The word “fearless” applies to you two. Thanks for sharing this hike.
Thanks Werner -- we were really looking forward to sharing this one with you guys! It's a hike that most people, especially in the US, have never even heard of, but they definitely should. It's a true classic. ❤️
It is impressive as is their conditioning. And attitude. And it is still the best video I have found overall. Having worked in all these places I can say they have covered SOCAL totally.
The west is big though. 10000 more places to go just in Sierra Nevada.
Had to watch this one twice cause my eyes were closed most of the first viewing😂Amazing…beautiful views and a great accomplishment. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much, Bob! Glad the craziness of those drops came out on camera -- in person it was pretty darn breathtaking, I'll tell you that! ❤️
That was incredibly crazy scary and spectacular!
So glad you enjoyed! Now after these great recommendations we gotta get our Austrian friends to come over and take them on some crazy U.S. hikes. Maybe the Maroon Peaks traverse, or Mt. Russel, or the Galena Peak to Little San G traverse! ❤️
That’s the most adorable cow I’ve ever seen! 😭
Right? I'd never been that close to a cow before, but he was so cute, and just let me scratch and pat his head. I'm definitely a cow fan now! ❤️--A
So happy for you guys. Hope retirement is still in the horizon. You’ve earned all of this good health, safe travels, and endless adventures. I know you don’t, but never take it for granted! You’re videos mean a lot to so many people!
Thanks very much, that is lovely to hear and yes, the early retirement plan is still on! This trip has been so incredible, and we're giving thanks literally every day for our health and ability to get out there. We know it won't last forever, but we're sure going to max it while we can! ❤️
I loved your music! Your voice is so beautiful as well as that climb. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Thanks so much, Kathleen, that makes me really happy to hear! We've got a couple of other new songs that we'll put into some other videos this summer as well -- really love being able to bring music and adventure together, and very glad you enjoy it! ❤️ --E
Two observations: I think the cow smelled the PopTarts, Adam, and Elise, I hear the circus is looking for a new high-wire artist. So fun watching you both in your element. Love you!
Haha Bob so often we'll do a hike somewhere, especially in the Dolomites on this trip, and think we gotta get you and Sharon to join next time. But on this one, no. This one was truly crazy. But you definitely would have loved that cow! ❤️ --A
Awesome, thanks.😊💪🙏
Our pleasure! Very glad you saw this one -- it was one of our all-time favorite via ferratas, and staying overnight in the hut at the top just made it into a super enjoyable adventure as well. ❤️
The set cables blow my mind. So cool.
I know -- I'd give so much to have a few of these on some peaks in the Sierra. Though with that said, I've been working on building my trad climbing skills so at least some of those hard to reah peaks are on the eventual agenda anyway! --A
Discovered you guys when I lived in socal (Santa monica), but moved to munich last november. I'm a short drive away from these hikes. being able to drive to places like this every weekend is a huge quality of life boost. it's worth it, if you guys are still thinking about it.
Yes! Once Adam early retires next year our plan is basically just to roam around, staying in great places that have great hiking and climbing, and that means a LOT of Europe (as well as Colorado, Patagonia, Himalayas, and of course our beloved Eastern Sierra). So stoked for you about Munich! Wow you really are right there for everything -- Austria, Dolomites, Switzerland, and Chamonix too! Well done. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard amazing. Glad that the plan is still tracking well.. living the dream!
nice job u2! great video, music & your comments
Thanks so much, very glad you enjoyed it! Lots more adventures coming from this trip coming up! ❤️
Wow! You two are in Climbers' Heaven! Incredible video!
Well said, Tom. This is climber's heaven for sure. It's the longest trip we've ever taken, and yet we still fear it coming to an end! ❤️
That was nuts! But also awesome that you made it.
Thanks much, Kim -- ya it was a LOT of vertical in a day, but it really helped that we knew we were staying in the hut at the top. It let us slow down and really enjoy the long climb rather than rushing to get up and down, which was an awesome feeling! ❤️
amazing, you all are awesome!
Thanks Jeff! We were really stoked with this one as you could obviously tell from our toast at the end -- so glad you enjoyed it!! ❤️
You guys are awesome! Just watching this made me anxious, this is not a hike for the faint of heart!
Truth, Daniel! In person it was SO freaking vertical. Sometimes I was able to get really into the groove and forget I was hanging by a thin metal thread over a 3000 free-fall, and then other times I was like "what the heck am I doing?" Fortunately Adam was all in the entire time, and his enthusiasm for this one really carried the day! ❤️ --E
Just wow!! And speechless too. You guys rock as always. Thanks for filming it!
Mughda so glad you saw this one! It's been one of our favorites on the trip so far -- just amazing views the whole way up. Happy you enjoyed!! ❤️
That is some AMAZING vertical there. Excellent climbing you two!
Thanks very much -- ya it doesn't get much more vertical than this. There were even some overhangs! Austria really has the extreme hiking going on. ❤️
Awesome you two!
So glad you saw this one! Most Americans have never heard of it, but among Austrians it is definitely a classic! ❤️
Going where no one dares
. very nice beautiful great views not for fate of heart.very athletic to. 5:44
Thanks David! Yes there were very few people taking this route to the top, but it was so, so fun. And, like you say, the views were just great the whole way! ❤️
Truly amazing! Well done!
Thank you! Exhilarating would be an understatement for this one. Last time I let Adam let any locals put crazy ideas into his head! 😂
Next level! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks Lauren! We had an absolute blast on this one, and getting to stay on top in the hut really did take it to the next level! ❤️
very nice! That looked near impossible! thanks again for taking us along with you - much love to you both!
This might have been my favorite climb of the whole trip -- just so fun, so vertical, so many interesting challenges. Very glad you saw this one! --A
Wow, you guys are killing it - both the climbs and the videos. I'm behind (lots of travel) but ALWAYS love coming home and seeing your incredible adventures - and wonderful smiles and demeanors. You guys are the best! 🧡
Thanks Paul! Hope your travel is going well, and that at least some of it is for pleasure!! Really glad you're catching up on the adventures and enjoying them -- this Europe trip has been utterly epic so far, and lots more to come!! ❤️
You too, are very active. Congratulations again on another beautiful, successful invigorating hike with the scenery. Thank you again for sharing. Best wishes for you both.
Thanks very much, Jeff! This one is very high on our all-time list of favorite adventures both for excitement and scenery -- def will be doing it again at some point! ❤️
Awesome hike you guys! Congratulations on all your hard work paying off over the years, leading to these amazing hikes and views from the most beautiful places in the world! Inspiring!
Thanks so much, Michael! We really appreciate that encouragement, and are still working super hard to be able to safely do even harder and more awesome stuff in the future. Adam is determined to get his trad climbing skills up to the point he can take us on the Russell to Whitney traverse, which has been his dream traverse for years. But fortunately now that my back is healed there's no hurry -- this trip really showed us that there are still lots of astonishing places to go with the skill levels we already have! ❤️ --E
Definitely you guys are making America proud all over the world by traveling, hiking and staying fit.......I repeat staying fit.🥰
Thanks so much! It's been really fun to represent America on a lot of these more remote hikes where we're literally the only Americans. And like you say, we're def taking pride in being fit and fast, and also trying as much as possible to follow local customs and fit in well! ❤️
After watching your hike/climb, I could finally understand why the French called those hikes I did in the Pyrenees poodle walk.
Haha the poodle walk sounds so cute though -- I definitely want to do one! And also a Pomeranian walk!! ❤️ --E
FANTASTIC 🙂
Thanks Petr! We're definitely going to be spending more time in Austria in the future!! ❤️
The two of you never cease to amaze me 😊❤
Thanks Nicole! This was definitely one of our favorites all year -- such a fun challenge, with non-stop beautiful views as the reward! ❤️
amazing crazy mountains scenery and crazy hike 😄
Yes, the Austrians really know how to make some crazy hikes, and then somehow they manage to put a hut at the top serving food and drinks! We love it!!! ❤️
Now that is a proper via feratta.
Haha yes!!! It was really a good one. ❤️
THAT WAS CRAZY 🤯
It really was, Jackie. Those Austrians really know how to do a Klettersteig! And being able to stay at the hut on the summit was really the cherry on top. Definitely an all-time fun adventure! ❤️
So utterly wonderful and beautiful. You guys are so spoiled now after doing such amazing climbs and you’re going to want more and more! Work will be a thing of the past, and you will be climbing bums just going from mountain to mountain for more challenges. Oh you guys are hooked for sure. What a wonderful addiction!! Beautiful climb and breathtaking views. So when are you moving to Austria??😂 Enjoy!!🧗♂️💕
Haha you've got it exactly right, Mary, and that is definitely the plan! Adam has already set his trajectory to early retire at the end of June next year, and then it's going to be a LOT more mountains and mountain towns for us -- basically, heaven on earth! ❤️
Well done
Thanks very much -- this is definitely one we won't forget! ❤️
Seriously both of you are such inspirations, but especially you Elise!! Each video makes me want to plan my next adventure :)
Thanks so much for telling us that, Mari! I love when we can inspire people into doing more adventures -- and then please make sure to tell us about it so we will get inspired right back!! ❤️ --E
Thanks for filming your climb. I seriously doubt I'll ever be able to do that. You inspire me to do my own little hikes. Keep on Rockin.
That's so great for us to hear, Jim! Love that you're getting out there hiking, and that we're a small part of encouraging it. And of course we do tons of those little hikes too, we just don't usually film them. In fact, we just did a lovely little three miler the other day around a lake in the Dolomites during a recovery day. It was wonderful! ❤️
Wow - I think you have outdone yourselves yet again - I am glad you had a lovely place to sleep to relax instead of going down
Thanks Rick -- ya the hut really made all the difference. We were able eat a good breakfast and start later in the morning because we knew we didn't have a set time to make it down by. It just made the whole thing feel kind of relaxed and enjoyable even though it was hard. Just a fun adventure the whole way! ❤️
What? Oh Heck no! The madness continues! Yipes!
Haha yes Eric! This summer is wild, and it's gonna get wilder!!! ❤️
Awesome! Good to see the trip is going well!
Thanks John -- we try not to be prisoners of the moment, but so far we're both in agreement that this has been the best trip we've ever had! It's just amazing the extent to which we've gotten lucky with the weather, and also gotten great advice from people we met early in the trip (especially the Austrians we met on Mont Blanc) that led to other great adventures in the Austrian Alps, Dolomites, and now, where we currently are, in Switzerland. Feeling really fortunate. ❤️
Wow! Absolutely breathtaking! Looks like my kind of fun!
Oh heck yes, you would love it! Of course you might sufferfest it down the same day instead of staying in the hut like us softies, but I gotta say having some drinks and pasta and a little sleep in the hut was pretty luxurious, and made for a very enjoyable descent the next day! ❤️
Great Climb!
Thanks Ted! We had really good beta for this one, so we knew what we were getting into and the route really delivered. Highly recommend it if you like a lot of straight-up vertical! ❤️
lol when you guys topped out i was like damn halfway done.....gotta love Europe and the mountain lodges.
They really know what they're doing here! I don't think words can really explain the feeling of some knodelsuppe, a beer and a bed at the top of one insanely challenging climb. The US has got to get it together 😂
You two are the most badass hikers on UA-cam!!!! Love you guys!!!
Thanks Douglas! Super happy you saw this one -- it was awesome the whole way, and a real highlight of the summer for us (especially those celebration drinks at the top!). ❤️
Amazing 🤩
So glad you enjoyed -- Austria is hiking heaven!!! ❤️
Love you guys! Your videos are amazing and very inspiring! Please stay safe!
Thanks so much -- really glad you're enjoying the videos, and that you saw this one because it was one of our favorite via ferratas ever! Such an un-known gem, especially with that wonderful hut right at the top so you can stay at the top. And don't worry, we will most definitely stay safe -- we have way too much exploring left on our list to get taken out by an injury or worse! ❤️
Amazing climb!
Thanks much, Dave -- it was one of the funnest we've ever done for sure! ❤️
Nice video, as always. There is nothing impossible for you two guys!!!
Thanks Miguel! Staying at the hut at the top definitely made it much more fun and do-able for us. We could have done the whole up and down in a day, but it would have been way more painful and closer to the "impossible" legend -- the hut made it into a pretty joyous experience! ❤️
Another great hike, what a beautiful place, and you guys are all alone so cool , thanks so much, Larry Owens, oh, just my permit to climb Balls Pyrmid, so excited
Larry that is so freaking awesome!!! Oh my god, that is goals for me for sure. Cannot WAIT to hear how it goes. Man, it looks so cool. Send us a pic from it if you can! --A
Hello Adam and Elise!! Thank you for sharing this epic via ferrata!! Very awesome!!
I am in flat Cleveland this weekend ! So, will just go for the miles. Vertical will have to wait until I return to Colorado
Wow Alan you do so much traveling to interesting places! Ya Cleveland really is flat, but it's fun. I was there for a good friend's wedding once, and we over-imbibed and wound up jumping in that big central fountain. Most of us got out unscathed but one stayed in too long and got a gigantic ticket when the authorities showed up! 😂 --A
Destination travel at its best!
The best, Ellen! Getting to the top of that grueling climb and knowing that there was a warm hut with beers and knodelzuppe just waiting for us was truly the perfect combination of adventure and luxury! ❤️
I had the same reaction as you watching this ... Oh no no no 😲😯
Haha Edu you wouldn't believe how often I say that, either out loud or inside my head, when I see some of the moves Adam does. Yet somehow they always seem to work! ❤️ --E
Wicked couple
always superb energy and fantastic places u guys go unbelievable jealous 🙏🏼
Haha thanks Ben -- so glad you're enjoying and hope we're giving you some future adventure trip ideas! ❤️
Gut gemacht 😃 well done!
Thanks Chris! We met many Germans as well as Austrians at the top of this hike, and shared a beer with a few of them at the hut. Great times!! ❤️
Epic scenery. Again.
Austria is the spot, Dan! We freaking love it. Though right now we're in Switzerland, and love that too! ❤️
I see from comments you have a posse. Words out.
The European stuff is INCREDIBLE. It ain't Sierras but definitely has a totally different vibe and isn't as dry.
Nice work yet again. Didn't seem to windy up there today which is a nice bonus.
That is a great point, and you. are absolutely right. In fact, we've been extremely lucky on this whole trip so far not only with rain but also with wind -- it's been almost perfect conditions for every hard hike. ❤️
Wow! Wow! Wow! 👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌👌🏽Super,Great great job 👏🏽🙌 wow!,Beautiful beautiful 😍
Thanks Maria! The Austrian Alps are really, truly amazing. We will definitely be back here repeatedly! ❤️
What can I say but AMAZING! Speechless this time guys! Sorry! Just soaking this one in. Stay safe and I love you guys! Thanks for sharing!!! LB ❤️
Thanks Larry! So glad you liked this one -- it was really a major highlight of the trip so far. Just the beauty of it, and then getting to stay in that hut at the top. What a treat. Love you, and hope you're having a great week! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Thank you! We’re having a major heat wave here. Next 10 days over 100 plus! 🥵 Your vlogs are a refreshing escape from reality. ❤️
@@larrywheeler9797 Oh my gosh Larry the weather this year is crazy! Apparently it's really hot in Europe too but we haven't really noticed because we've been so high up in the mountains almost all the time. Stay safe and cool! ❤
Wow, Incredible! Thanks for sharing! Stay safe
Thanks Randy! We've been doing a good job of staying safe over here so far, really reading the beta and going at optimal times to reduce the chance of rockfall, etc. Of course on really long steep things like this there's always some chance of rockfall, but we're doing all we can to minimize it! ❤️
I have been watching your hikes for a while now and came to the conclusion that you are Nuts.....but in a good way ;-)
Haha thank you -- that's pretty much all we've ever wanted to be! Very glad you're enjoying the adventures, and lots more to come the rest of the summer and fall! ❤️
Great climbing as usual!
Thanks Dave! Europe has so many epic climbs -- it's just a joy to keep coming back. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard it's nice to see these places through your eyes on these epic climbs! Thank You! ❤️
Oh wow, just a summer of love and fun and vert!!! Wow, off the charts yet again, you both are having so much fun and yet can film and bring this all to us at the same time! Such a magnificent route, I wish there were more options like this in the states! Hope you had a wonderful meal and, of course, some well-deserved beverages at the hut. Would be cool to see the hut experience like that documented too, but I'm sure after a long day of climbing and filming, you both were probably ready to relax and put the cameras away. I'm just over 3 weeks away from heading to CO for some 14ers, so thank you for getting me stoked for some vert!!! Cheers!!
Dan we have been saying the same thing our entire trip - if only the US could have the combo of klettersteig + hike + hut at the top for food and sleep! But that's part of what makes coming here so special. We are just so grateful for and ever in awe of the hiking culture here. While it would be great to show you more of the hut experience, we also are sensitive to other peoples' hut experiences and often feel like we don't want to disturb the vibe by introducing our GoPro if you know what I mean :) Very excited to hear about your trip - what peaks are on the agenda? We were just saying that we are pretty sure next summer we'll plan to do a month or two in CO conquering all our peak dreams!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard - Oh, good point about the other's at the hut! So cool that you respect their experience too! As for CO, going for Castle and Conundrum on Day 1, La Plata on Day 2, and for Day 3 it will be a game-time decision, but probably something in Sawatch since I'm staying in Leadville. Cheers!!
@@dansouth2088 Awesome! Classic peaks, and a traverse! We will def be doing those at some point too because we have friends in the Aspen area and often stay around there. Leadville is perfect -- altitude acclimating while you sleep. Let us know how it goes! ❤
Awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉
So glad you enjoyed! We've definitely got to spread the word about this beauty. ❤️
You two are so living it so proud of you both! God Bless! G
Thanks very much -- we truly have been feeling blessed on this trip, and grateful for every single beautiful moment. God Bless you too! ❤️
We all know camera pictures are only a fraction as good as being there. That said, your video was awesome. Great job as usual!
Thanks David! Yes it's true, and on ultra-vertical ones like this it's even more true, but so glad you enjoyed! This one was really, really fun and crazy spectacular in person. ❤️
Hope you are visiting Austria soon again. I love our Austrian mountains but you guys don't take any prisoners. Your hikes are crazy. Stay healthy and take care. Greets from Upperaustria at the foot of the Kremsmauer (1604m).
Thanks Robert! We truly love Austria, and will definitely visit again soon, and often in the future. Please let us know if there are any climbs you think we should do there next trip. We are planning to do the full Dachstein glacier and klettersteig climb, and would love to hear any other recommendations! ❤
Only if been on the mountains and looked down to 1000m stone wall drop one can understand how insane that is! It will blow socks of even wearing shoes! Camera never can captive these vertical differences.. no video does justice.. not even close!
And if still after that ”pep talk” hights are visible to regular joe to see from video we all know it must have been a crazy mental stuff! 😆 Yep, You two are a dynamic duo with a couple of loose screws; with a good way! 😜 Servus to all Austria and Alps fans!! 🥰
Thanks very much, and you are totally right about the camera limitations on this kind of climb. We are always trying to figure out how to capture the epic scope of the views and massive drops from giant cliff faces like these, but it just really isn't possible at least with out equipment. But the good news is it means everyone has to go and see this beautiful climb for themselves at some point! ❤️
What an amazing climb!!!
Thanks Levi! Yes it was incredible, and we wouldn't even have known about it if we hadn't talked to those awesome Austrian climbers on our way down from Mont Blanc! ❤️
Awesome! Just don't let the Austrians dare you past your limits. 😊
Thanks Carl, and don't worry -- we do love pushing our physical limits but will definitely always make sure to do it safely. There are just too many things we want to explore for us to risk injury or worse! ❤️
"I prefer not to be on the edge of death for too long."
My favourite line from all of your videos.
Haha ya it's one of those things that is invigorating for some people and draining for others. Adam would happily live his life suspended from a cliff, whereas for me I really do enjoy the thrill but, even knowing that my ferrata gear makes me safe, it still wears out my nervous system after several hours of looking straight down at 3000 foot drops! 😂 --E
I'm glad you guys had a final destination. I was like "how are they gonna go back through all that in the same day" but I also know that you're no dummies! Amazing video. You guys are so athletic to be able to push on through all of that. Wish I could tag along. Sometimes I get a little envious watching you guys, not in a bad way, but I used to be able to do stuff like that but I'm actually military retired on disability. The army really messed me up but I was truly one of the most physically fit people all around that you could ever meet. I was the best at everything every where I went. When I started training for air assault at my base I practiced for the final ruck march once which was twelve miles with like 100 pounds or something. I can't remember. Anyways in my practice I came within five minutes of beating the base record which was like a 40 year old record and I knew that I could've tried much harder and beat the base record when I had to do it for real as the final requirement of the training exercise but that's when I started getting sick. I've accomplished so many amazing feats but I can't do a lot of that stuff any more which is why now I stick to small hikes and such around where I live which keep me going and help me. Its fun watching you guys and when Adam laughs it makes me laugh.
Steve thanks so much for telling us that. I can't remember if we told you before but my daughter is going into the army -- currently in her final year of ROTC at Georgetown. She takes huge pride in her rucking and also her 2-mile runs, and during officer training at Knox this summer she managed to beat all the guys in her platoon in the 2-mile! I don't think she beat them all in the rucks, but she was definitely up there. I'm so proud of her. Anyway, very sorry to hear you can't do the giant hikes anymore, but you definitely have all our love and respect for your service and sacrifice, and love that you are still getting out for local hikes. We'll be doing the same thing for as long as we are able! --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Thanks dude! Yeah I used to run a mile in under five minutes, low fours. In P.T. tests, which I'm sure your daughter knows well, the max for points was 300 but I would always break that if you extended the scale out and I would get like 310's and 320's which are unheard of. I was known throughout the entire base as a P.T. champion and I would wear a special patch on my P.T. uniform where everyone was like woah that dudes crazy, lol. Even though I was enlisted other soldiers would call me sir all the time. My unit was 101st screaming eagles, elite unit. I was 6' 7" and athletic smooth muscle at about 240, still doing o.k. now but a little more heavy set in the mid region than I'd like to be and at 350 but you wouldn't know it cuz I'm so tall, when I was 240 everyone thought I was a pencil although I was very fit and strong and now when I'm 350 everyone thinks I'm 250, lol. I still haven't weighed myself in a while but I like to think I'm doing quite a bit better than that. Great work guys!
Oh my days that looks insane! wooahh!!!
It was so awesome, Carl! Every time we got to the top of one giant peak there was an even bigger one looming. And then the hut at the very top -- heaven!! ❤️
What you're doing is absolutely amazing! It gives me the heebie jeebies just watching this.
Haha thanks Robert! Ya this one was really challenging because so much of it was just straight up. Adam loved it because he has a lot of upper body strength and no fear of heights. I enjoyed it too, but my arms and hands were completely cooked by the end! ❤️ --E
Damn, that's long! Also planned for my trip.
Awesome! This was probably my favorite klettersteig of the whole trip. You're absolutely going to love it. Highly recommend staying at the hut and coming down the next day -- it made both days into really enjoyable adventures rather than a single long sufferfest. ❤️ --A
You always get me to be frightened for you - again and again 😅
And then again, I am so happy for you at the same time 😄
By the way, I got a Half Dome Permit for this September to climb the cables for the first time and am looking forward to that sooo much!
Enjoy your time - already looking forward to your next adventure 👍
That is so awesome -- congratulations on getting the permit! That's no easy task -- we tried many times but never got one. You're going to love it so much! Let us know how it goes, and in the meantime we'll def keep you entertained -- lots and lots of adventures coming up! ❤️
Just came across this channel. You guys must be in such good shape! I'm betting neither of you are strangers to workouts.
So glad that you found us! Yes you are right about the workouts -- in fact, if you look on our channel page we have a whole section of the workouts we do in order to get in shape for really hard climbs! ❤
Geez, this is absolutely amazing and stunning!!!! Those freaking spines...I know you're clipped in but OMG, Idk about that lol.
I'm right there with you, Michael. I knew I was relatively safe being clipped in, but just the sheer magnitude of the drops freaked me out a couple times. Adam, on the other hand, was probably happier and more comfortable up there than he is on solid ground 😂 --E
Great job, super Epic, rivals the Dolomites for sure! I wish we has via Ferrates like that here! Please come visit and experience the colors of the San Juans! You guys really broke the mold on this one.
We're definitely going to, Karl! It's weird because the climbing over here is so incredible, but it also reminds us that we have a lot of similarly awesome climbs in the U. S. and is making us super stoked for when we come back! ❤️
You guys scare me to death down here in flat Florida! Loved the video. Thanks!
Haha David we were just talking about what hike we're going to do in Florida when Adam early retires next year and we do our greatest hikes in all 50 states trip! Everglades, maybe? ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Try the Florida National Scenic Trail. It starts in the Big Cypress swamp in south Florida and goes to west of Pensacola in the Florida panhandle. Prepare to get your feet wet!
@@davidcamp3598 Excellent! Putting it on the list!!
I'm glad you had a hut there instead of downclimbing everything you just did in the same day. :)
Oh my gosh, us too! I told Adam when our Austrian friends talked him into this hike that I only wanted to do it if we could stay at the hut, and that was the right choice for sure. It was a very long hike down the next day, and would not have been fun without a night of rest in between. With the night in the hut, though, it was perfect! ❤️ --E
It didn't look that much harder than other ones you did until you tilted the camera up and all I could see is Adam's butt LOL
Kudos to you both for taking on such an incredible challenge!!
Haha ya this one was definitely full of butt shot potential 😂. We've done others this steep in places, but this one for sure had the most sheer vertical. But wow did that make it fun, and satisfying to reach the top! ❤️
You two are awesome. Smiles for days always.
Thanks very much! These kinds of adventures are definitely our happy place, and glad the joy of it comes through in the videos! ❤️
Your videos are awesome!! Getting better and better with each one.
Ever thought of taking a drone too? Would make your videos even more outstanding.
Thanks so much! Yes we have definitely considered it. They are not allowed in a lot of the places we go, but in others it could be really useful. May well do it once Adam early retires next year and has the time to put into really researching and learning how to use one well! ❤️
Sweet Christmas, this is CRAZY!!!!!!! (and I mean that in a nice way)
Haha we know you do, Patrick, and we felt the same way even when we were on it! We must have turned to each other at least half a dozen times and gone, "this is crazy!" It was really amazing how much beautiful and challenging vertical they were able to put into a single hike. There aren't too many like this, so we really savored it! ❤️
"Are you not entertained" Another great video. Makes my hikes look so mundane and boring.
Haha thanks very much, Matt -- and great callback to the Rome video! It's funny you say that about mundane hikes, because we were just talking about how our local hikes at home might not seem quite as exciting after these. But then we decided that hiking is a bit like pizza -- sometimes the simple cheese pizza can be absolutely perfect, and we're actually looking forward to some simple hikes and trail runs when we return. ❤️
Congratulations on another amazing hike/climb. Way to represent USA ❤Kudos 😊
Haha thanks Brian! Ya after that conversation first thing in the morning, we definitely knew we couldn't let the team down on this one!! ❤️
Clouds are just amazing. Used to empty sky Sierra UT CO NV AZ. The cowlick made my day. I had a bison do that once. Arm though. Fed him some grass he just licked when gone. They have like huge blue ish black ish tongue.
And rough too, right? It was the roughness that surprised me -- very cool experience! --A
Animals are amazing. Have watched them for days everywhere I have worked. 100s of bear encounters. Actually, I have been closer to bears than any other animals overall. Grizzlies terrify me. So far none have decided to kill me. 🙃 haven't walked into any big males yet. Seen them from afar. No females with cubs either except black bears few times. Dozens of Griz have walked right by me.
They say Cape Buffalo have tounge that can lick your skin off. Not sure it's true. Cows are interesting. My friends that raise them can't kill them. Get to attached. Man's sin on wiping out animals is epic. Billions. From Tuna to Dodo Bird. 🦤 To Bison. Pretty awful the past 300 years. Hopefully next 300 are better.
Was hoping for a bit of jodeling on this one. You have great voices.
Haha you are absolutely right -- we missed an opportunity there! Definitely next time!! ❤️
Guten morgen!!! Come practice your German with me!
I would love love the beginning part of this hike with the cows 🐮 :) I would not join for the climbing part haha. But I’m so glad you guys did and shared these beautiful scenes and views! I think you must be traveling back now so safe travels you two! Lots of love from Portugal xxx ❤
Thanks Arielle! We leave soon -- next trip, we're def visiting you guys and working on some German! ❤️ --A
Nice representin'. And there is a tram (which I would have taken up) behind the magic hut?
Actually, no tram and not even any road to this one -- everything at the hut must come in by helicopter! There is a trail down the back side of the mountain, but it is long and gnarly and snowy steep and we kept falling on our behinds on the way down! ❤️
The cliffs 🫣
Ya they were so steep, and the biggest one was just straight vertical! But totally worth the climb, because by being vertical they gave us totally unimpeded views the whole time! ❤️
Goodness goodness goodness
It was a crazy one, John -- just non-stop vertical, wow was it beautiful! ❤️
As a person with an unfortunate fear of heights… my cheeks were clinched tight for the entire 12 minutes! 😮
Wow! What a great adventure!
Haha yes this one was quite safe thanks to the via ferrata, but would definitely not be fun to do with any fear of heights. But fo us and especially for Adam, who has virtually no fear of heights, it was Disneyland-level fun! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Has he ever dropped his snack?
Amazing adventure, beautiful down below, yikes cable climbing Thanks for sharing
Thanks Andrea -- yes it really was so beautiful down below. One of the best things about filming these challenging adventures is that it forces us to take the time to really look at and think about the views down below as we try to capture them, even when we're really tired. It definitely adds to our appreciation of the moment and keeps us from being too summit-focused! ❤️
Nice hike and video! Amazing!
How do you do to climb and recird videos with no body else at the mountains?
Thanks
Thanks very much, and there is a simple answer to that question: just do hikes and climbs that are so hard that virtually no one else is on them! Usually we also leave very early to make sure we have the mountain to ourselves, but for this one we actually did the opposite. We had breakfast at our hotel before leaving, so the other climbers on the route that day all started out a few hours before we did. We did catch up to a few of them by the end, but with so few people on such a long hike it was still easy to feel all alone up there! ❤️
The cows are licking the salt from your skin. Another very cool hike.
Ya I figured it was about the salt -- pretty interesting experience actually, because his tongue was so rough! Glad you liked the hike -- it was def an all-timer for me just because there was so much vertical challenge, and all of it had views either straight down thousands or feet or out and really gorgeous views, or both. My kind of hike for sure. Love Austria! --A
As usual, amazing video. I'm more just checking in to see how you both are doing. I see Southern California had some major issues with all the rain. I hope you are doing well.❤️
Aw thanks Dan! No problems in SoCal -- we've noticed that almost every big weather "scare" we get here is more a news event than an actual event. There was some rain, and now today it's beautiful again! ❤️
You cannot beat the views! Waking up to that! Wow!
It's true, Gary. Both the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites have these crazy vertical climbs where when you get to the top you have 360 views in every direction. Just incredible. And Switzerland has some too -- we just climbed one yesterday!! ❤️
Finished that route I need a cold One.🍻
Those were some of the best cold ones we've ever had!
