  • This day I went out with the local legends Gaspard Ravanel and Nico Borgeot, we skied the classic Glacier Rond and Cosmiques couloir.
We skied it two days after a storm and the snow hadn't got enough time to stabilize, so there was a bit touchy some places.
This is the brands I use for hard boot split boarding.

Can anyone explain the decision making processes in play here? As someone who is learning about avalanche safety I find it difficult to understand.
You acknowledge the possible presence of a slab and the lethal terrain trap under it, however, you don't mention how you came to the decision that it was OK to ride?
Obviously I haven't seen the avalanche forecast, however, the description of the video suggests that it was high.
Is it simply in the Chamonix culture to take such risks? Is everyone just riding until their luck runs out?
I ask because I would love to snowboard lines like this, however, I would not know how to safely approach it. This video doesn't shed any light on that.

That is a excellent question/point! This day we where the second group riding the line, and the first group did a couple of ski cuts and released some slabs, this where locals that had been there a lot before and knew the snowpack.
But yeah, it is a risk and I doesn't mean that by doing a skicut that everything is good, this is something I don't reccomend..
Chamonix have a different culture when it comes to this yeah, not everyone ofc but a few.

Awesome videos Krister! I'm surprised to see you guys all flying with your snowboards on - you lose so much weight shift authority with your hips all locked up. I only dabble in snow sports but switched to skis for this reason. Maybe phantom could develop something to lock your heels down so you can fly in tour mode.

They can definitely develop something like that. Spark has a gadget like that for their soft boot bindings

Hi, Yeah I know, but for this its just about making it down. And sometimes in shitty snow its easier with the board I think. I looked at what you are talking about but I don't want any more weight on my board:D Maybe just a ski strap would help!
