I can't get the bolt off the inside of the dryer where the lint filter is in order to pull the shaft off it's in the back of a white plastic thing that won't come off that I've unscrewed. Can I get the white plastic thing off.

There is a pin in the centre of inner drum, remove lint filter you will see it. insert a small screwdriver or something similar & gently pull out 1 cm, this releases the drum from the back panel. Remove door by removing the two screws on the hinge before laying on a flat surface, the control knob can also be easlily removed if you want by covering with a cloth/rag, grip & pull with pliers.
