  • Porto Montenegro in Tivat, Montenegro is a trendy upscale community. With expensive shops, sprawling harbour full of Superyachts and yachts, it is a great place to visit on a vacation if you have the money. An abundance of cafes and restaurants will keep you satisfied. Sit on a patio and watch as Billionaires anchor their super yachts in the bay. We take a day trip to Tivat in this video and check out what is around in Porto Montenegro.

    Been to Tivat? Planning on going to Tivat? How about Porto Montenegro... what do you think? Trendy vacation spot or just an expensive odd spot that doesn't reflect the true nature of Montenegro? Let us know your thoughts!!!!

    Really, great video Guys 👍 I think we will def visit Montenegro from Saranda after seeing your experiences so far.
    Looks beautiful. The marina with its high end shops reminds me of Puerto Banus in Spain near where we used to live. Maybe you have been there. Great place to people watch and see the super yachts.
    Really enjoying your travels. Going to be another hot one today, stay cool 😎 👌

      We would highly recommend coming here... stay anywhere around the Bay of Kotor, you can't go wrong. Just find what works in your budget and if you want a larger or smaller vibe.
      We have not been to Puerto Banus. Not sure we will be going to Spain anytime soon but you never know. But yeah, people watching and yacht spotting is kinda fun. I use the marine maps ship tracker to see what yachts are what, and who is en route.
      Glad you are enjoying following along. It is really a lovely place, and costs for us are just slightly over what we were spending in Saranda. I do not suggest spending much time in Podgorica if you have to come through on a bus.. it is an overnight stop at best.

    I bet those people on the yachts are envying you. Your freedom of being you and walking around and taking the ferry with other people and taking the bus without a care in the world. Meeting old friend and making new friend without fear of their intention and nobody being with you for your money 😉

      Yes I would say in some respects they may feel exactly that way. It's funny.. I'm just waking up, it's 6am and I can see the yacht "Aviva" out there right now... on its own... nobody near it. And it occurred to me, before I read this message... just how lonely that life could be. I'd give the 9 billion a try for sure though, just to be clear. :)

    When you showed the Walmart Yacht, it made me think of my friend who works at Walmart and says he is going to retire when he dies in isle #2 in Walmart! We have tried to show him and his wife other alternatives such as yours and they are just not willing to see things through a different lens. Sad for sure but maybe your videos will impact others that feel they are stuck working through their retirement years because they don't think they can financially make it here in the EXPENSIVE USA! So, thank you for the inspiring video.

    • @JayandSarah

      Everyone's financial situation is different, but there are lots of people who could retire early, or retire with a far better quality of life that are just not willing to consider the alternatives. There are lots of people in this world who are just not willing to leave their familiar comfort zone. Have your friends spend much time traveling to different countries to see what life might be like elsewhere?

      Afraid of the unfamiliar. Some people are just home bodies. You will never convince folks like that to make an about face. It's not in their programming. At least, I don't think so. To spend your entire life without seeing what else the world has to offer is, in my opinion, truly tragic. Seeing nothing but the world from your own fishbowl.

      Well, there will always be the ultra rich. The world is a land of opportunity. I started with nothing.. and I mean nothing.. and am able to do this now. It was not easy, it took hard work and discipline and a strategy for the long term. I drove old cars, ate at home, moved very infrequently on real estate that I owned. Many friends of mine did the opposite. They kept buying new cars, upgrading their houses, spending on lavish vacations etc.. and they are all still at work now, and will be paying for it until they are 65. We all make choices in life.

    Lovely video as usual! Kinda fun to see how the "other half" lives. Great to have the free ferry! Isn't it weird how some cities can have great public transportation and others just suck at it? Glad you enjoyed the journey! Yeah, there is a lot of money in that port area. The food was exceptional value. The transportation.. hit and miss. We are going to Kotor soon to film but we are not likely to take public transit unless we get super frugal. It's that crap!

    Hi. I am from MNE. You must understand that the bus couldn't stop because, by the law, he could get ticket of a 1000 euro if he stop some were it is not suppose to. The market's don't work in Montenegro on Sunday by the low because state wonted to improve workers life who didn't have a day of vacation on the week. Now they are sure they got at least one day per week.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  6 місяців тому +1

      Totally understand. They could rotate the staff so that everyone gets a day off. This is common in many areas of the Balkans to be closed on Sundays. You can prepare for it, which is fine. We are used to this now. It makes no sense that Gambling places and cafe's are open, yet food stores are not. There are more gambling places and cafes than there are grocery stores. It really makes no sense whatsoever.

    Another great video from you both! We have been to Porto Montenegro and tried to get into the mega yachts area to see The Blue Pearl, we were stopped by the security but he was a nice guy. There is an Indian restaurant and a Chinese restaurant in Porto Montenegro and I just love Indian food !The staff in the supermarkets are very surly and even ignore us when we say hello in Montenegrin. The supermarkets are also very badly managed. Still love Montenegro though 🙂👍☘️

    Where you sat in the restaurant is not Porto Montenegro, it is Riva, Tivat proper. The restaurants at Riva are more expensive than in the rest of the town, but not as those in Porto M.
    The reason for so many yachts in Porto M. is that they do not have to pay some of the taxes as elsewhere in Europe, that was Montenegro's policy there from the beginning. So, they're actually saving their money by being in the Porto M.' port.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  6 місяців тому

      This will change with EU accession. The reason many yachts, and I mean Superyachts 200 million plus, come to Montenegrin waters is to avoid EU VAT on their yachts valuation. Boats made in EU and delivered outside of EU waters that stay there, also pay to VAT at production and delivery. This is 20% so on a 200 million dollar boat, quite a lot of money. Even on smaller yachts, $10 or $20 million still lots to pay. Montenegro in general was not expensive to stay in. Most costs in Balkans are similar.
