@ 2:21 he gives the best advice for anyone in this line of work ,whether pipeline or if you work in a shipyard
Great bunch of guys Austin. It makes working so much better when you have a crew that gets along and makes the job actually fun.
You guys are awesome really appreciate your videos I'm still in college taking welding and your videos really get me excited about the career I'm taking hope God continues to bless you guys.
Man im glad you and your women exist, God bless them youngens God bless us all, make it xray every day.
Really like how you guys are. I've met lots of people who weld. Some are straight cocky. They put you down and tell you that you don't belong welding. They don't motivate you a single bit. I also met people who motivate me more and give me advice. They tell you it's not easy and that it comes with time. And you Austin and Kayla have been real and giving everyone tips and what not. Millennials have a hard time too cause some places don't give us a chance. Lots of welders forgot that they also at one point started at the bottom and shouldn't push someone else down.
Thanks a lot Austin! I'm fourteen years old living in Tupperville Ontario and I want to be a pipeline welder. I see Banister pipeline workers just down the road from my house every day on my drive to work. With living near the right of way to watching these videos it really has inspired me to become a welder on the pipeline. Id like to see a video with just advice to those young men who want to become a pipeline worker or welder if you haven't already.
Love these work life videos! Keep it up!
Thanks for the advice really appreciate 👍🏼
I've been welding for ten years mostly in plants doing shut downs and shop workas well . I'm really interested in what you guys are doing . I enjoy all theses videos very much would love to actually sit down and have a conversation on why you chose to pipeline other than the money. Would love to hear how all the hard work and dedication not mention huge sacrifices have paid off.
Word of advise for the young people. A 20 thousand dollar rig will make the same money as a 70 thousand dollar rig. Only difference is I'm not making payments. Don't get caught up with all the fancy rigs you see on the internet and think you "have" to have that.
Eloy Leyva So true. Skills, not frills, pay bills. Northwest Arkansas is thick with out of work pipeliners that went out after only a year of lining and bought $80,000 rigs, and $80,000 campers, then lost it all when a job ended or they got laid off. You can't do anything with a band new setup that I can't do with my '79 SA200.
Rusty Shakelford Except not need a tank of fuel every day
Kayla here. Hope this finds you all well and enjoying what is left of the weekend. Austin is actually still at work, but hope to hear from him soon. The one liners from these guys had me laughing the entire time I was editing this video. Hope y'all can hear them all.
p.s - I know a lot of y'all asked questions on the "Go to Work With Austin" video and I wanted to let you know we will be doing a Q & A with Austin and Leo soon to answer all those questions.
Great videos you do!
This is my dream job to be on the pipeline I'm currently in high school and enrolled in the welding program there but I'm planning on going to Hobart welding school then get out on the pipeline
great video have a good night and a safe week.
Thank you. All the same back to you.
show us some camera footage from inside the helmet during welding sticks.
Did you go Union? Great vid brother say safe out there.
Good advice
I'd love to hear the story behind the West Virginia State Police tattoo! My uncle was a Trooper
Make more videos like this!!!!!!!
Are you guys in central Ohio? I seen a rig like yours in Lancaster.
What's more common on pipe welding. Up hill or down hill. I find down hill easier. 3/32 gap.. 5p+ 6010 1/8" rod.
Hey brother great vids!! Are yall outta 798?
I’ve pipelined now over 5 Years .. shits not easy but honestly not hard.. it’s a different world of Its own that’s for sure if It’s not in you , you will find out really fast...
Isn't that the truth. It doesn't take long to weed out the ones doing it for the wrong reasons or that just weren't meant for it. Be safe out there.
It sounds a lot like building power lines. If your afraid of living out of a bag, heights, 14,400 volts and can't get hot, cold, wet or offended. It's not for you.
Austin you should hook up a camera rig on your truck,so you set it and hit record when you can of you t job.
He just got a mount for the inside and a tripod to use outside. More ROW videos to come.
Wtf is the end about?
are you union now?
NOT BAD LITTLE GROUP... WHO IS YOUR HELPER. IS THE GUY WITH PRESCRIPTION GLASSES
Im not much of a welder, but my advice would be: limber up. Im 21 and i cook bbq, but i can already feel my back and hips locking up. I cant imagine a world where welding is easier with a stiff back. Water and evening stretches.
What's that Helpers name eating the sandwich
Why does that dude have a state police tattoo?
Wish I could get on the pipeline, I just started welding recently so I have no connections at all
It will come with time. Keep at it!
Adam Whitfield apply as a roustabout hand. Sooner or later youll end up meeting welders. Thats what i did. I managed to save some money and a good down for a newer truck. thank God i was able to get my self a rig together. It was only a dream last year.
Can i practice pipe welding at home like before i get a pipe line job, all i have right now is a mig welder not sure if you can still do it with that
Of course you can practice at home. But I would recommend going to school to learn how to weld. And you can get started in a pipeline as a helper grinding beads. And sure, plenty of fab shops run MIG to weld pipe. But not FCAW with the root, gotta be gas shielded hard wire. Never heard of FCAW root, it's usually TIG or MIG root, FCAW fill and cap. Pipeline is usually xx10 rod though.
Caleb Schmidt is absolutely right,I bought a gas powered smaw machine for 800$ in 1972 was a grunt on the pipeline spring to fall and winter I worked In a fab shop for hours/experience.I retired3 years ago but I could have 12 years ago.if u want to make the big $.,don't be a know it all ,ask questions,be courtious to all,be hungry and go after it .buy an old machine for home and set up different types of placements.let them know that at quiting time you're capable of pulling an all nighter if need be.I've seen 1000 come and go but the hard workin hungry cats make it in this game.and don't complain about the weather!! I would go truck to truck when I got into testing and I got sick of the guys trying to find an excuse to go back to the hotel real fast.
Hey where’s my man from in West Virginia? Tell him a fellow WV guy said hello from the bottom of the state
Clay County is all I (Kayla) know. Hopefully he will see this. We aren't on the same job as him anymore.
As a pipeline welder do you always have to travel? Or can you stay put in a house?
I've been pipelining for 21 yrs and I've never been home.....ever
Trey Sayles I've started in northernAlberta in 1972 I've been retired for 3 years, could have at 57 but I have never been home. camper trailers, big and little camps put up by company, and if it's a long gig and u know early rent aroom or house with a few otherpeople who you know if they live like a pig. but oil sands in northern Alberta I bought a rv cheap in 1982.I got 175$a day lodging tax free.for 7 years working24/4 days off.afterthe meals I made app 40 00 cash a month .that old fucker paid for itself 500 x over.paid 28000 andsold it in 2002 for 11500.I did ok withit
Feast or famine
Always and forever.
They need a welder'sonly.com
I want to be a pipeliner welder
Wishing you all the best as you work towards that goal!
Austin and Kayla I'm from caddo Alabama an I love welding I'm good at tig welding
