    Really like how you guys are. I've met lots of people who weld. Some are straight cocky. They put you down and tell you that you don't belong welding. They don't motivate you a single bit. I also met people who motivate me more and give me advice. They tell you it's not easy and that it comes with time. And you Austin and Kayla have been real and giving everyone tips and what not. Millennials have a hard time too cause some places don't give us a chance. Lots of welders forgot that they also at one point started at the bottom and shouldn't push someone else down.

    Thanks a lot Austin! I'm fourteen years old living in Tupperville Ontario and I want to be a pipeline welder. I see Banister pipeline workers just down the road from my house every day on my drive to work. With living near the right of way to watching these videos it really has inspired me to become a welder on the pipeline. Id like to see a video with just advice to those young men who want to become a pipeline worker or welder if you haven't already.

    I've been welding for ten years mostly in plants doing shut downs and shop workas well . I'm really interested in what you guys are doing . I enjoy all theses videos very much would love to actually sit down and have a conversation on why you chose to pipeline other than the money. Would love to hear how all the hard work and dedication not mention huge sacrifices have paid off.

    Word of advise for the young people. A 20 thousand dollar rig will make the same money as a 70 thousand dollar rig. Only difference is I'm not making payments. Don't get caught up with all the fancy rigs you see on the internet and think you "have" to have that.

      Eloy Leyva So true. Skills, not frills, pay bills. Northwest Arkansas is thick with out of work pipeliners that went out after only a year of lining and bought $80,000 rigs, and $80,000 campers, then lost it all when a job ended or they got laid off. You can't do anything with a band new setup that I can't do with my '79 SA200.

    Kayla here. Hope this finds you all well and enjoying what is left of the weekend. Austin is actually still at work, but hope to hear from him soon. The one liners from these guys had me laughing the entire time I was editing this video. Hope y'all can hear them all.
    p.s - I know a lot of y'all asked questions on the "Go to Work With Austin" video and I wanted to let you know we will be doing a Q & A with Austin and Leo soon to answer all those questions.

    What's more common on pipe welding. Up hill or down hill. I find down hill easier. 3/32 gap.. 5p+ 6010 1/8" rod.

      Isn't that the truth. It doesn't take long to weed out the ones doing it for the wrong reasons or that just weren't meant for it. Be safe out there.

      It sounds a lot like building power lines. If your afraid of living out of a bag, heights, 14,400 volts and can't get hot, cold, wet or offended. It's not for you.

    Im not much of a welder, but my advice would be: limber up. Im 21 and i cook bbq, but i can already feel my back and hips locking up. I cant imagine a world where welding is easier with a stiff back. Water and evening stretches.

      Adam Whitfield apply as a roustabout hand. Sooner or later youll end up meeting welders. Thats what i did. I managed to save some money and a good down for a newer truck. thank God i was able to get my self a rig together. It was only a dream last year.

    Can i practice pipe welding at home like before i get a pipe line job, all i have right now is a mig welder not sure if you can still do it with that

    • @Leb.ertarian
      @Leb.ertarian 6 років тому

      Of course you can practice at home. But I would recommend going to school to learn how to weld. And you can get started in a pipeline as a helper grinding beads. And sure, plenty of fab shops run MIG to weld pipe. But not FCAW with the root, gotta be gas shielded hard wire. Never heard of FCAW root, it's usually TIG or MIG root, FCAW fill and cap. Pipeline is usually xx10 rod though.

      Caleb Schmidt is absolutely right,I bought a gas powered smaw machine for 800$ in 1972 was a grunt on the pipeline spring to fall and winter I worked In a fab shop for hours/experience.I retired3 years ago but I could have 12 years ago.if u want to make the big $.,don't be a know it all ,ask questions,be courtious to all,be hungry and go after it .buy an old machine for home and set up different types of placements.let them know that at quiting time you're capable of pulling an all nighter if need be.I've seen 1000 come and go but the hard workin hungry cats make it in this game.and don't complain about the weather!! I would go truck to truck when I got into testing and I got sick of the guys trying to find an excuse to go back to the hotel real fast.
