    Hey Austin and Kayla. I just came across your video and I am so impressed with the 2 of you. It is so refreshing to see a young man like Austin who has the hardworking attitude that seems to be fading away with the younger generation these days. I've enjoyed welding for many years as a hobby. I went to welding school when I was young for a couple of years but decided not to get certified as my career path led elsewhere. It's a lot of hard work to do work in the field in all types of weather conditions. I've worked heavy construction all my life and the new generation coming up has a very different attitude towards work than we did 40 years ago. I always put out the extra effort to do a good job and I hope Austin does too. Your work speaks for itself. God bless the both of you and follow your dreams

    Hi again, I'm so glad I found you too. After years on the road, dad went to work for the local power company here in SW Iowa, and at that time, all of the small towns were being converted to natural gas, (that was 50 years ago) . Mom and all of us 5 kids relocated also and dad was able to be home every night. I admired dad so much because the hottest summer and the coldest winter days you would find him down in the trench with his little cap pulled down over his ear to keep the sparks out. He worked hard and was a master at his trade. He trained many apprentices over the years, He was the best. It truly is a craft and if you love it you will do very well.

    • @AustinandKayla

      I love everything about this. I'm sure it was so nice for your family to have dad home every night. These guys do work hard. The conditions aren't ideal. Austin loves it and I don't see him changing careers anytime soon. We never say never, but for now this is home for us. We have met the coolest guys (like your dad) who have offered advice and understand as we travel and learn. I trades are a lost art. I love trades because many times they are fueled by passion and you can directly see your work paying off.

      I think it was Austin's also. Austin would totally be giddy over welding on a aircraft. He didn't fly till just a couple years ago and has been fascinated with planes ever since. Just like a kid. :) Glad you felt the love. Thank you for your sweet comment.

    Hi Kayla and Austin, My dad was a pipeline welder my entire life and this all rang so familiar. If you can continue to travel together you will have a great life. Dad spent many years on the road and even years on jobs in Greenland. Mom pretty much raised us by herself but dad would get home when he could. Best of luck in your endeavors.

    Hey guys. Great video. Great channel. I was there that day, on test day in Nashville, and helped out on the job that went on. I worked for the contractor that hired him. Your latest video came across my UA-cam feed. Hell yeah, I clicked on it to watch. Austin has an outstanding work ethic, outstanding welding talent, he is extremely knowledgeable and is a great person to work with. His rig is very well built and beyond prepared for the task at hand. Not to mention, it is extremely stylish and to the point. I'm happy to hear life and work is going well for you both. Nothing but the best of luck to you guys.

    Great explanation and LOL at spilling coke in the hubsters lap and glad ya'll can laugh at that. My husband worked for a construction company and some jobs were 7 months; next one 9 months and we moved all around the country and then into several other countries. SUCH a great thing to do as a young couple imo for your relationship. And the best project managers kept their plumbers, welders and staff moving from job to job.
    I do miss the lingo of draggin up, brass alley (back in the day of clocking in)and the general chit chat and expressions of people from different parts of the country. Like icy day "slicker than eel s**t out there" and hundreds more we still use and remember who told it.
    Your channel is growing cuz it ROCKS and no doubt will continue to grow. Bottom line is the two of you are "good people" and you give great tours and insights into the areas you are in while doing it with an upbeat attitude.

      You are so sweet. Thank you so much for the support and encouragement. We love sharing and hope to continue to do so. Meeting people is my favorite part about traveling. I love learning about why they love a area and all the things they say. It makes for many laughs and good memories. What countries did y'all work in? We would love to travel to other countries for work. We plan to do so regardless, but working somewhere else would be super cool.

    i've been binge watching yalls videos cause i'm trying to make my way to the pipe lines. i went to a short trade school here in georgia, Georgia Trade School, to learn welding. i've spent the last 6 months working at a factory, but i've just recently joined union 72, here in atlanta. the plumbers, pipe fitters, and hvacr technicians union. I am in their apprentice program, as a 2nd year apprentice. I am not sure if i will stay union or not, but i definitely want the experience and knowledge that it will get me. i love yall's channel and keep doing what you do, very informative, good content. i show these videos to the girl i am dating to show her what i want my life to be like if i make it onto the pipeline. it really shows her how much you support austin, and how much you've learned from him. it also teaches me what i can expect of the life! weld every damn day. - joel

    Wish I could have got into pipeline welding when I was young! I been welding for over 30 years in a factory! I weld ductile cast iron pipe. For the water works industry. Very different from your line of welding. But I still love welding after all these years. I live in OHIO. And there is a lot of pipeline work going on here now!! Like your rig too!!!

    • @AustinandKayla
      @AustinandKayla  7 років тому

      Hey. So glad you found us. There is a ton of work in Ohio. We are enjoying being in Central Ohio for a change. Normally we are on the eastern side of the state. All welding is different, but it is the trade itself that Austin loves. Go to hear you love it after all the years you have been doing it. It pays good to love what you do. Be well.

    Also with the "3 strikes you're out" on a job just so people (not you guys 😊) understand the intensity of that.. Depending on the size of pipe/which section of the line you're on/what point in the job you're at. ONE welder could touch 100 welds a day. that could possibly be 600 a week. Not every week is that productive but you only get 3 mess ups for say a 5 or 6 month job or longer. Mess ups that they can fix before it gets in he ground, like you said. Thats pretty tough stakes! not many other jobs have that little amount of tolerance for mess ups. You mess up a an order at McDonalds you get a raise haha jk. Love your videos, I might just have to make some myself!

    • @AustinandKayla
      @AustinandKayla  8 років тому

      Yes, girl. I think we are "used" to the numbers and don't think much around them, but the odds are truly not in there favor. Especially on the front end like you were saying. I also wonder if that extra hour a day is worth all that gamble. lol I try to explain this (among other things) when people make the dreaded comments about "they make so much money." Yaaa that is because it is big risk and unsteady. Plus the overhead. I am preaching to the choir here, you know what I'm talking about. Glad you found us. If you start a channel let me know so I can follow along. :)

      It truly is. He loves what he does or else I would think every day would be super stressful. You can't just go "into the office" and have a bla day - I mean you could, but it could also cost you your job. I would say 75%+ he works out in the field. This job is a "fab job" which are normally done in a shop environment. This jobs are ok every now and again and are great to freshen skills, but Austin prefers to be out in the field. It isn't easy. I need to catch up on y'all videos. Hope your trip went smooth. Thank you for watching and supporting us. We appreciate it. Safe travels.

    what does it take to get into pipeline welding, been welding for 6 years, and run my own welding shop. I have welded at several power plants and some refineries and do boiler work but pipeline welding I think would suit my fancy a little better. Just wondering if it's possible since I'm non union,
    thanks for reading

      Totally possible. We will be making some videos this year to answer a few of these questions so look out for those. You don't have to be union to find work. It is all about connections and work ethic (to stay busy). Hopefully we can give you some tips in those vids coming up. Take care.

    Austin, could you take some detailed pictures of a T just before you weld it up? I understand that layout of the branch and cutting it what I can't seem to find is the proper beveling of the branch. If I understand there is no beveling of the main so it is just a strait cut. When you cut the fish mouth for the branch you point the torch to the center of the pipe with the handle parallel, got that, it's just the beveling that I'm struggling with understanding. Thanks.

    Are some of the companies adding a ASME test on top of your bell and branch?
    My last test was a 12” bell and branch with a 2” schd 120 6g.
    Some companies also will let you keep up your papers as long as you’ve xrayed 6 months.

    • @jw5471

      Ignacio Cruz if you went to school and pass you get the job more easy but if you weld for a 5 years and do every position of welding on your job you'll get the hang off it fast if not you are bad welder and for this pipeline fitting you actually are doing any construction. so you dont need to be smart just focus on welding.

All the pipes are the same.. say Austin has a bad day makes a mistake how do they know it is his mistake? And also you said 200 thousand subscribers but it says only 34k. Anyways love the channel!

      This is a great question. We stencil every world that we make. Sometimes it’s just our initials in our last four or sometimes they will give you a letter in the alphabet as your stencil. The helpers write the welders stencil out next to the weld with a paint marker.

      Depending on your location it is possible, but even then they may come and go. Other options welding in the oilfield requires less travel.

      Thank you, Louis. I joke with Austin all the time that I am going to make a video telling everyone just how much info they would get if Austin talked or made all the videos and just set there in silence. He is so cut and dry that his answers are very quick and simple. I am able to take years of our conversations and his conversations with others and actually say some useful things. lol Some guys just can't stand hearing anything from women. I learned that quick when I worked at a diesel/offroad shop.

    Thanks for the vlog. I'm wanting to get into pipeline welding, got my plate and pipe Certs, learning the trade, I don't have a rig set up yet but I hear a good way to get into pipeline welding is to be a welder helper, what do y'all think? If so ....how do you get in to be a welder helper?

    • @AustinandKayla
      @AustinandKayla  7 років тому +1

      Good for you. Keep going! Get as much experience as possible and don't get discouraged if it seems like it is taking to long to break out. We do suggest starting as a helper. You can learn a lot and get some great contacts. We will make more videos this next year on our suggestions and helpful tips on getting into pipeline. Look out for those. As for getting on as a helper I would say look locally and show up to yards or join some Facebook groups to see who is hiring. Finding a helper slot will be easier than a weld test. Show up. Work hard. Learn and make connections. Networking is vital to successful pipelining in my opinion. - Kayla

    • @AustinandKayla
      @AustinandKayla  7 років тому

      It kinda depends on the company as far as the butt. Sometimes they have stuff ready and all you have to do is clean them up and other times you have to cut your own. You always cut out your branch, but occasionally they will allow you to do it the day before to save time on test day. All depends on gas company and inspector preferences.
