Such a great song. The drummer, Blake Richardson, is hands down my favorite drummer alive right now. I have been saying it and will keep saying it. You NEED to see them do the Extremophile Elite playthrough live at the Fidelitorium from the album before this one. The vocalist and the bass player both do keys, but primarily it is the vocalist Tommy Rogers. He is amazing. The guitar player, Paul, will sometimes do vocals too, but as far as 98% of the time it is just Tommy doing both growling and singing.

Dipping in a couple months late to provide some context to this song and BTBAM as a whole coming from a long time fan (since The Silent Circus album)
Coma Ecliptic as an album is a concept album. The story is that our protagonist uses this machine that put him into a coma and allows him to be transported into his past lives. Each song represents a different life and they are treated as episodes in a sort of Twilight Zone/Black Mirror reality where they are self-contained yet loosely connected.
BTBAM as a band lyrically touches on the idea of dreams and subconscious realities. In the Parallax EP and Parallax II albums the protagonists of that story commune between themselves and others in their dreams. In the two Automata albums the protagonist wakes from a computer simulation to discover that the life he has always known with his son was nothing more than a dream. Tommy likes to write about dreams and it is a bit of an inside joke between longtime fans.
Colors and Colors II as concept albums are more about connected commentaries about humanity and society, but both are written as single pieces of music cut into several songs rather than a collection of songs packaged as an album. Coma Ecliptic is similarly written but it's easier to differentiate the songs and experience them separately.
Back on the topic of the Parallax songs, this is a storyline that has been years in the making. The first songs of the story were actually from the band's 2nd album way back in 2005 in the form of Lost Perfection A & B. They added to the story in the Colors album with The Prequel to the Sequel and then two more songs joined the saga on the Great Misdirect album with Fossil Generia (A Feed from Cloud Mountain) and Swim to the Moon. Eventually the Parallax EP was released with three songs picking up directly after the events of Swim To The Moon. Then the Parallax II album brought the story to an end. There is one more song tangentially associated with the story from Coma Ecliptic where the protagonist of that album meets the deuteragonist from the Parallax on the song Turn On the Darkness. I am beyond obsessed with this storyline and love talking about it, if you haven't been able to tell. It's a dramatic space opera.
There is also a cover album that the band put out years ago that kind of highlights all of their influences. Metallica, Pantera, Motley Crue, and Queen all make appearances on the album. More interestingly Pink Floyd and King Crimson are also nestled in there along with Counting Crows and Faith No More. It's the band's forgotten album because as much as we love the band's music, they just aren't as fun when they're playing someone else's stuff.
I'll end my rant there. My final bit of advice is to try to not listen to anything of BTBAM's in a vacuum. Make it a donation incentive or a patreon exclusive where you sit down and just listen to one of their albums end to end in a single sitting. It's how much of their music is intended to be experienced, at least anything after Colors, so that includes Colors, The Great Misdirect, Parallax 1+2, Coma Ecliptic, Automata 1+2, and the most recent Colors II.

A fun detail about this song that you might enjoy: Often when the band plays this number live, the final time they play that main riff section (at 13:00 in the video) they'll play it over a shuffle beat from the drummer and bassist. It's amazing how such a simple change makes it sound so dramatically different

Seeing someone appreciating so many artist has been amazing for me personally. If everyone that claimed that they listen “everything” actually listening to anything beyond the billboard, then maybe we could all just get along. There is just so much good music. In every genre culture, and period time. Nothing should be discounted until it after it’s been accepted. Aloha. ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

Their most underrated album imo. Saw them a few months ago for the fifth or sixth time and they were at their absolute best! Epic band... Thanks for doing these!

Somebody else recommended Native Construct, and I’m going to as well in hopes to increase the likelihood that you’ll see it. They’re similar to BTBAM in many ways and had a personal connection with them as well at one point. ‘Chromatic Aberration’ is their best song IMO, but it’s nearly 13 minutes long. If that’s too long for the channel, I think ‘The Spark of the Archon’ is their next best.

Sometime, you should react to their earlier stuff, like More of Myself to Kill, Aspirations, Mordecai, All Bodies, Alaska. I bet you would love comparing their early stuff with their later stuff
