Stopped doing Yoga once I realized the connection to the Hindu faith. Don't do Yoga, pilates is so much better and you can incorporate stretches on the reformer apparatus.

I was immersed in the world of yoga and considered becoming a teacher at one stage but then by the grace of God the Lord made me aware that Yoga was something I should stay away from. I would wake up pretty much every night after having these terrifying nightmares and when I did wake up I felt a dark presence in my room. Several times I was convinced I saw something in the darkness, a shape, a pair of red eyes. This went on night after night for years and then when I stopped yoga I'm telling you pretty soon the nightmares stopped and the dark presence left my room. And i've heard similar testimonies. When you do yoga you are opening a door to something demonic to enter your life.

In UK primary schools (age 4+) part of 5 minute movement breaks include "Cosmic Yoga". It's not compulsory but it's very common to use this system. We were assured the verbage wasn't being used but it would depend on who was teaching... (our kids are no longer in state faith schools)

Multiple Q&As on Catholic Answers (answered by priests) say it basically like,
"As exercise and wellness for the body -- acceptable."
"As a spiritual pathway -- unacceptable"
... I think we need to 'exercise' the virtue of discernment, and not guilt ourselves. We are Catholics and not Hindus. Also, we can do something for the sake of wellness, without having to make it 'Catholic yoga' -- St. Irenaeus said the glory of God is man fully alive.... There is gluttonous pizza; and then there is being a Catholic and enjoying my pizza.... It doesn't have to be 'Catholic pizza.'
I think "Calling down the names of Hindu gods" is something I have never heard before today, and I've studied this a good deal... In fact, most yoga-lingo I know of is just descriptive of the posture.
'Chataranga' means 'four-limbed', because these moves employ all the arms and legs..
'Tadassana' means 'mountain pose' because they are sturdy, planted, upright postures.
'Ardha Chandrasana' means 'half moon pose' because you bend 'half way' over with the body..
Everyone's favorite, 'Adho Mukha Shvanasana' literally means 'downward facing dog posture' because, you look just like a stretching dog.
'pranayama' are breathing exercises which literally mean 'energy regulation' -- yes this is 'different' but ancient peoples describing 'breath' as 'energy' isn't evil.... The New Testament uses the Greek 'pneuma' (breath; air; wind) for the word 'soul or spirit' (where we get the word, 'pneumonia' or 'not enough air')...
All seven days of the week, and all the planets of the solar system are explicitly named after pagan deities. We don't say we're "calling on pagan gods" when we say these words -- all the friggin' time.

Wrong! We're NOT just body nor just soul, we're both. And that's why yoga is so dangerous. Even people for Hindu culture that turned Christian will tell you this. Don't mislead people, there's even a teaching from Mexican Bishops about New Age movement and yoga is one of the things they pointed as part of that.

In yoga, the teacher is talking you through the “stretches” in a yoga way. It’s not just a hamstring stretch, but the group is being directed through the language of yoga to the downward dog yoga position. The teacher is using the yoga mindset and language to get the class to follow her instructions. It’s not just taking out one piece to make it “ok”but each piece lends itself to yoga. An analogy might be, the finger is part of the body, but the body is not just a finger. Also realize that the Father of lies is very cunning. He is taking a “good” like exercise and group events, and weaving spiritual danger into them, ever so quietly. I practiced yoga for 19 years. Biggest regret of my life.

Do Yoga about 10-15 minutes every morning. Stretches, balance and shoulder stand poses. While doing I pray Our Fathers and Hail Marys . The prayers actually allow better yoga. Yoga means union of mind and body and is useful and healthy for both. It is an ancient practice and certainly not un-Christian when practiced with prayer.

I have always found it ironic how similarities between religions garner such an adversarial views. Every religion is a piece of a puzzle and we are suppose to be assembling that puzzle as one but for some reason we get caught up in being right, money and leadership. Every religion has harsh, and sometimes homicidal teachings and also they all have compassionate, loving, liberating, hopeful, awe inspiring, uniting teachings. All spiritual practices are for our growth. You can call yoga whatever you want but amd rename the stretches but its still a Hindu practice. If i gave a you a stolen TV and your intentions aren't bad and you're a good person. Doesn't make the TV any less stolen. Just means you're a good person watching television on a stlrn TV.

I'm a former yoga teacher. I stopped teaching in 2015 but I have gone on with my personal practice. Although I don't do any asanas, as I don't consider them to be yoga. I have been studying with a Swami initiated by Swami Rama in the 80's, the famous yogi master from the 60's and 70's who was known for assisting doctors and researchers conduct tests on him as he meditated. He was credited as one of the Swamis who brought meditation to the west. Both these master yogis have a traditional lineage in the Himilayan tradition stemming back 5,000 to Sage Vyasa. My Swami includes God and the Bible in our satsangs. He combines both God's Word and vedanta, antar yoga & tantra in his teachings to his students. He tells us Enlightenment is experiencing the Kingdom of God. He encourages us to use both in our practice and to make sense of Jesus's teachings as we come closer and closer to turiya, and obtain kaivalya.
