Definitely the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary from Baronius Press. It's beautiful, functional, and has Gregorian Chant in the back. Why no review of the Douay-Rheims? That's my preferred "reading and studying" Bible.
LOTR, LOL!! I also got a kick out of using the term "Everyday Carry". I usually only hear this when it's related to knives, flashlights, or firearms. This was the first time I've heard this term when talking about a Bible. But hey, it's appropriate, we should be carrying a Bible around for sure. I usually just use a Bible app on my phone, but there is something about having a physical Bible and marking it up with pens, highlighters, sticky notes, etc. That being said my everyday Bible is The RSVCE 2nd Edition. I have a leather edition from Ignatius Press. I have noticed the pages starting to break away from the binding near the back of the Bible so that's disappointing. How is your hardcover holding up? I'm going to subscribe to your channel and see whachya got. :)
yeah please don't throw your Bible...I was taught by the nuns many years ago in Catholic school that you must treat sacred objects with respect therefore if your drop it or throw it you must lightly give it a kiss it to show reverence. If you need to dispose of a sacred object or book it must be either burned or buried...you can't just chuck it into the trash. Nice video, will look in an EDC version of my Bible.
Yes he should respect it because it is the word of God, and in respect for those who have written it, those who risk their lifes and the history of the bible in our holy Catholic Church.
The "bendy-ness" of the one Bible you showed, indicates that it is printed and bound correctly so that the grain of the paper is running vertically in the page. It means there is no stress on the binding and the binding won't break. If it hadn't been bendy, it would mean the grain was running horizontally, the pages would not be flexible, that would put stress on the binding, and the back would break. So bendy is good.
I also have the same small blue RSV-CE. I customized mine by adding 3 more ribbons. Simply cut a small rectangular square from a piece of card stock, such as a file folder. Make it slightly smaller than the width of the spine and about 2 in long. Cut your ribbons and super glue them to the piece. Insert the piece in the top, trim to length, and singe with a lighter! Made a space for the ribbon already there, and the other 3 are each a different color: red, green, and blue. The whole Bible fits in my cargo pocket to take to Mass. I can mark all the readings and the Psalms!
Hi Edmund. Well, if you're talking Catholic Bibles, the legitimate options are the "New American," the "Jerusalem," the Catholic edition of the RSV, the 2nd edition of the Catholic RSV, or if you're really old school the "Douay Rheims." I lean towards the Catholic RSV mainly because the RSV was accepted by Catholics, Anglicans, Eastern Orthodox, and many Protestants. It's often been called the most ecumenical BIBLE.
Some other options include the Knox Bible published by Baronius Press which is the work of Ronald Knox a priest and convert from the Anglican Church. Knox completely translated the bible over a ten year period, and his work is highly regarded. The ESV is available in a Catholic edition. It was initially accepted by the Church in India, and will be adopted for Liturgical use in Britain by the December of 2024, as I understand. A number of handsome editions are available. For those who need to economize there are paper back editions with sewn bindings.
I know this is an older comment but when I did rcia we’re given versions of the same bible that is used in mass I’m in Canada so all Canadians Roman Catholic Churches use the new revised standard version Catholic edition
My set up is a New American Bible Fireside Study Edition (I just got it yesterday) It's definitely thinner than my other NAB which is a St. Joseph Medium Size Edition and much easier to carry around. I also have a standard hardback journal for my Bible Journaling and writing basic Prayers. I have a zipper compact size notebook for Prayer requests that I carry with me everywhere.
So I have personally carried a pocket Bible with me almost as long as I've been serious with my faith, which is 7 or 8 years now. I wear cargoes for this reason; my wife thinks I'm insane lol. I almost have to get a new one every winter due to snow and such messing up the pages and wearing down the binding. that is at least until I've found the zippered Bible by Ignatius press. Highly durable, which definitely makes up for lack of aesthetics.
You should have mentioned pocket (or very compact) Douay-Rheims-Challoner BIbles. They are hard to come by, but I have a couple, one of which still is available, from Baronious Press, in some kind of synthetic or cheaper leather covers (I'm not sure which), with two ribbon bookmarks. The old Catholic Truth Society Douay-Rheims-Challoner Bible is not too hard to find used. It is even smaller, but quite thick, thus bulky, and the Douay-Rheims-Challoner text is a British one, not the usual American Douay-Rheims-Challoner. It's hardbound, the paper is easy to handle and to turn. It's worth looking into if thickness is not a problem.
One maybe helpful suggestion for those out there who have paperbacks and need them to last a while. For paperback books of any kind that I've had in the past, I went out and bought a roll of clear Sc0tch packing tape (the wide stuff) and ran a strip of it along the spine. Then I trimmed the excess at the top and bottom. I also did the same thing with the edges on the front and back covers where your thumbs would go, only I used the regular clear Sc0tch tape for that. Finally, I would wrap the whole thing in a brown paper cover. For me, it didn't need to be pretty; it just needed to work. Just a thought.
mtomas7 i 2nd this! ^ i absolutely love taking it everywhere. If I’m taking with me my phone, wallet keys, then I’m also taking this copy of NT. Great layout and welcoming readability. 👍👍🙌
Great video - I'm looking for a new, small, everyday bible and is really helpful to see all these bibles side by side for comparison. Really like your videoa, keep it up!
I have an number of bibles but the I travel with is the zipper one and it is amazing. I have been keeping it in my work bag for weeks and it has shown no signs of wear at all.
loved this video! i’m going to be purchasing the last pocket bible! it’s beautiful! i’ve needed something that i can take to my catholic studies in college that’s not my large bible! definitely earned a sub!
I had a question. In your opinion who makes the nicest Catholic Bible in - Revised Standard Version to get a Leather Rebind? It’s a lot tougher to find a RSVCE with high quality pages. Not like Protestant Bibles made by Cambridge. When is a manufacture gonna realize that Catholics want high quality top grade bibles as well 😞
Alejandro Sanchez Thanks so much. I just ordered Ignatius Bible RSV 2nd Edition in the Large Print version. ( I prefer large print because my Wife and I read together and it’s easier to see from a distance). I’ll probably end up getting a rebind soon after I receive it 👍🏻
FYI- Little Ignatius RSV NT/Psalms with the blue cover, is bonded leather not imitation leather. Also, they are actually flat silk or nylon ribbons, not "tassles." Thanks for the interesting video. Peace.
Hey Edmund- just found your channel (YAY!)- since this video is a year-ish old, can you update and tell us if this is still your fave? I have been looking for a pocket Bible since my little one was nabbed by someone who obviously needed it more than I (I left it in church!! GAH!). SO I'd love to get a new pocket edition one and am hoping to let my kiddos do that for Mother's Day this week! Thx for all you do for the Church! Blessings
I'm an old man. My everyday setup is the Olive Tree Bible and Maps app on my phone or iPad. It lets me quickly switch among different English translations, or foreign language translations, tap for notes, etc., in a number of different translations. I don't know Hebrew or Greek, but if I look at the French, German or Czech translations, I can pretty much figure out what was going on in the original or what I have to do more research into. This and Biblegateway come in handy when a friend of mine calls. He watches three masses in two languages on TV every Sunday, and often a Spanish reading literally will not say the same thing as the English reading even though they're supposed to be the same passage. (The Spanish usually agrees with the Douay-Rheims.) The Olive Tree app and Biblegateway then help me get to the bottom of things.
It would help if you would show one of the pages and tell us the size of the font. You only showed the covers of the Bible. I am interested in the readability and content. Is there a concordance and maps? Didn't appreciate the lack of respect for the Bible by throwing it.
Rebinding is also an option if you want a beautiful and quality cover on an ugly/worn out bible.. lots of christians do that as a side hustle and can find them easily on the youtubes.
Have you used the Oxford University press RSV compact Bible? In India, where I live, it's pretty hard to come across a Catholic compact edition Bible. It becomes extremely expensive with the shipping charges
For me, print size is important. I have a NAB smaller edition which has very small print and I’m not a fan of this translation. I prefer the RSV which I use daily at home given its size. Finding a Bible cover for this RSV has been a great plus, makes it flexible for travel. Thank you for your reviews!
So, just remember the approved translations by USCCB are basically the NABRE and NRSV-CE. Plenty of people use the RSV-CE, but it's not technically approved by USCCB.
OmG why you just throw the bible (2:39), do that in front of a theologians or bible scholars and surely they will scold you... just like our priest who is also a bible scholar, one time I change the position of the bible on the shelves, I just put it up standing, the original position was laid reverently or lying down and he scolded me when he saw it, he told me that I must respect the bible because it is the word of God, that we should respect it with due reverence.
Edmund Nice Video Thanks , I know this is an older video , is it still your favorite or do you have another recommendation for a Personal size Catholic Bible (5x7) Thank you and God Bless
My name is Matthew McGuire and my favorite bible is the Catholic Living Bible but there is no tassel to move around in the bible I give it a 9 out of a ten God bless you do you know any commentaries on the bible to read for bible study ?
I'm 25 and only really started honestly reading my Bible this year. I never really have before. I started with the Bibles my Mother has, the big St. Joseph Edition: Good News Translation and the New Testament Good News Translation: St. Joseph Edition. I wanted to pick my own, a Bible I chose and would be 'mine'. Technically, I went with two. The Douay Rheims and the Jerusalem Bible. I love everything about the Douay Rheims ~ reading scripture feels so nourishing. Much better for me than the Good News Translation. It's a flexible black leather cover with gold leaf including the medal of St. Benedict, gold leaf sidings, a ribbon. I love the format, the cream paper, the lovely scent of it. But what if I wanted to read the Bible in plain language? The Jerusalem Bible fills that perfectly. But the Douay Rheims is my favorite, and I would absolutely *love* the little black Douay Rheims in the same form factor as the little blue one, to have with me at all times. ❤️
@@tony1685 Thank you for the warning, I appreciate it; this passage however does not mean that. In accordance with Catholic Church teaching, an infant must be baptized as soon as possible, it is the responsibility of the parents. An unbaptized baby that dies goes to Abraham's Bosom, and cannot enter Heaven. There is a prayer however, that has been granted a wonderful indulgence to be able to baptize these poor souls, so they can get to Heaven and enjoy the Beatific Vision.
@@ahums16 _'In accordance with Catholic Church teaching...'_ - 1st problem friend - catholicism 'church' contradicts the Word of Truth (John 17:17). _'...an infant must be baptized as soon as possible...'_ - that infant can't repent nor believe - so it's not valid. see also Acts 2:38 to go along with Acts 8:37. do you have any proof to this? - no, it's not there. _'An unbaptized baby that dies goes to Abraham's Bosom.'_ - ah, taken from the misapplication in Luke 16. no friend - none go to Abrahams chest - Abraham is dead now and awaiting the 2nd Coming of Christ. it's horrible and not at all Biblical to believe such, Sir. i can show you a few more things you should think about - like the catholic teaching of 'hell' and how it makes our Loving Creator out to be worse than Hitler, Stalin and Manson all rolled into one! also - their theory of endless conscious torment is from Satan in Genesis 3:4. care for proof? - just let me know friend. open to any and all questions. former (35 yr) catholic, now Christian and Bible teacher.
@@tony1685 Ohhh, that last sentence was devastating to read, I'm so sorry. What did Satan do to make you give up the Truth? There is no salvation outside the walls of the One, True Church you were fooled into leaving, and all the answers to all your questions are readily available in the Catholic Church; that's the problem with the things you mention! You were lured away with questions that have become answers in of themselves with no respect to hearing an honest answer, such as "God is too loving for Hell to exist, and for people to be sent there", it is uninformed opinion that gives rise to apathy and satisfaction in of itself, leaving the person no desire to investigate. It is a trap from Satan, thus the stagnation of the mind never going beyond its own opinion, its own truth; Satan was the first to have his own truth. I appreciate your dialogue, but I trust the Bible and the Church Fathers more than the musings of protestant minds over the past couple centuries; heretics, who are not in Heaven, for they denied and opposed the Church Christ founded. Men Christ Himself warned against in Sacred Scripture, the false prophets to come in His name and thieves who break in the sheep pen, not through the gate. Abraham is in Heaven with our Lord in spirit, the Resurrection is when the soul will be reunited with the body. All who go to Heaven are very much alive, more than us, and they enjoy the Beatific Vision. The gates of Heaven were opened when our Lord died on the Cross. Who taught you otherwise? Surely a man, who thought he knew better than the Church's explanations on Scripture, the selfsame Church who wrote them. This man surely had the Truth on things and interpretations, and in no way was one of the many false prophets to come in the name of Christ, as He so forewarned Himself. 'Endless conscious torment', I don't know where on earth you got that idea but it's nonsense. "You will not die the death" is in reference to damnation. Satan tempted Eve contradicting what God had said. Who told you otherwise? Infant Baptism: It's Necessity on page 187 of the Catechism of the Council of Trent expounds the beauty of Church teaching with many quotes from the Bible, the true meaning of the Word of God in its fullness, which Protestants lack because they do not want. They know better, like Lucifer in Heaven knew better, they went their own way like Lucifer went his own way. Protestants have free will, they use it. Of course Paul writes of the necessity of a grown adult professing their Faith in Christ Jesus before being baptized!! What good would it do otherwise? That doesn't rule out baptizing our babies into the Faith! Why would a parent deprive their baby of such a necessary sacrament? And what are they being baptized into? The Church. The Church is the keeper of the Faith. Protestants quote Scripture like their father, who in the desert quoted Scripture to tempt Jesus; Who responded each time with Scripture in it's true meaning. Satan bent the meaning of Scripture to his own purpose, to tempt our Lord, who revealed that each of these verses did not mean as Satan suggested. How is this so? Satan used individual verses alone, by themselves, neglecting the wholeness and oneness of the Word of God. If another verse, chapter, or book in the Bible contradicts the understanding of a passage; then the understanding of that passage is false. Protestants will do a gym's worth of mental gymnastics to preserve their interpretations, fully showing they have no interest in Truth, but what they *want* to be Truth. Such as thinking James and Jude in the Bible *really* didn't mean salvation is attained by Faith and Works, when they write so plainly, and they further deny our Lord who said so as well, that if you loved Him you would keep His commandments. Keeping a commandment is a work, is it not? Faith is separate. Yet they deny this to purport Romans was about 'Faith alone', when Paul actually was simply writing to a pagan audience explaining that their Faith did not come from themselves, but it was a gift from God. The Catholic Church did not one day come into existence in 325 AD, St. Justin Martyr in the year 150 wrote of the Catholic Mass. The history of Christianity is Catholic, the Bible is a Catholic book, the books within it were selected by a Pope, the King James Version was written in protest of the Douay Rheims Version which is an English translation of the Latin Vulgate first translated by St. Jerome in the 4th century using documents no longer in existence. And if you do believe the Church spontaneously came into existence in 325 AD from a council, the Holy Spirit therefore just stopped working for 1200 years until Martin Luther or Calvin showed up? Christ couldn't found a lasting Church, so a man had to do what God made flesh could not? Do not forget that our Lord in John 14 promised the Holy Ghost to be with His Church and guide it. I'll include a quote from the Douay-Rheims, John, Chapter 14, "16 And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever. 17 The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him: but you shall know him; because he shall abide with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while: and the world seeth me no more. But you see me: because I live, and you shall live. 20 In that day you shall know, that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them; he that is that loveth me. And he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith to him, not the Iscariot: Lord, how is it, that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? 23 Jesus answered, and said to him: if any one love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not, keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard, is not mine; but the Father's who sent me. 25 These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you. 26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid." DRV The footnotes offer further explanation; "Chap. 14. Ver. 16. 'Paraclete.' That is, a comforter: or also an advocate; inasmuch as by inspiring prayer, he prays, as it were, in us, and pleads for us. - *Ibid.* 'For ever.' Hence it is evident that this Spirit of truth was not only promised to the persons of the apostles, but also to their successors through all generations. Ver. 26. 'Teach you all things.' Here the Holy Ghost is promised to the apostles and their successors, particularly, in order to teach them all truth, and to preserve them from error." I know it's a lot I responded with, but it is absolutely heartbreaking that you fell into the protestant trap, and furthermore teach this false doctrine.
@@ahums16 try to narrow it down and focus my friend - that would be how Truth is taught and proven. now - to address your 1st question - _'What did Satan do to make your give up the Truth?'_ - i am about to do an integrity check on you before i invest too much time and end up wasting it on someone who doesn't care about Truth - right now. Truth = God's Truth. 1 - Jesus Christ IS Truth = John 14:6 (notice, it says nothing about Mary being Truth) 2 - Thy Word IS Truth = John 17:17 (nothing saying 'tradition' is Truth) 3 - Thy Commandments ARE Truth = Psalm 119:142,151 (this would imply that all Ten Commands = Truth) do you agree with 1,2 and 3 - or do you not? thanks for reading - after work, i plan on our discussion moving forward. have a safe and good day, Sir!
That's the Oxford compact RSV Catholic, am I right? I'm in the midst of considering to buy it. I'm a King James reader but I've been interested to buy a Catholic Bible for to read the Apocryphal books. So you think this Oxford would be a value buy? Thanks
I carry 3 different bibles. Kjb, Rsv Catholic bible, and a new world translation. I read multiple different apps as well. Geneva, Septuagint, Duoay Rheims, and Book of Enoch.
@@EdmundMitchell Im down to 1 now (Kjv) I gave my mom 1 (Rsv) and donated the New world translation (Jw) . I now have apps for every bible. So much more convenient. I really wanna get a Duoay Rheims and A 1611 kjb with Apocrypha. Septuagint too. Ah heck, I wanna collect them all. Tyndale. Etc Once I get a place to keep them of course. I've been homeless for a while now. But God always provides. I somehow always get what I need when I really need it. No such thing as a coincidence. Only SYNCHRONITIES !
The Ignatius Press bible (the brown faux leather without the zipper) looks just like my NAB from Oxford Press. The cover of mine is dark blue and black but the cover is stitched the same.
Hi, just wondering if getting a small bible. Would that be the same content as the normal big bible? Sorry if the questions is bad but I’m trying to purchase a first bible. I’m catholic but never own bible. We have a huge one but it’s a family bible.
I need to know the best Bible in large, or giant print. I believe that woukd be the NRSV-CE, because of the translation...But am wondering if the DR would. be better . I have a good collection of Bibles..... but cannot read most of them anymore. I loved the little blue Ignatius one... It would be so easy to tuck into my bag.. I have at least two Ignatius Bibles... One is a blue paperback,,, The print is bold, so even though it is small, I can see it ...most of the time.
I got the Little cloth over board one and I was wondering if there were other translations with similiar volumes and covers. Recommend at least one(anyone).
my carry bible is better than all you have, mine is a hardbound brown leather bible, as small as the zipper bible you have but thicker. it has 2 tassels for the OT & NT, it has maps, & it has book tabs. it was given to me by my parents for school, I've had it for 25 years now and still looks great!
Yeah, Tyrone already mentioned it, but a ribbon is not a tassel. Tassels are usually string or cord-like with a fringy thing on the end. A ribbon is a ribbon. But seriously, I enjoyed your video a lot. Like the kid stars too. 😃 I really like my new CTS NEW CATHOLIC BIBLE Presentation edition. It's a hard cover but very compact and it feels good in the hand... three ribbons: maroon, gold, and red. It's a new Anglicized version of the Jerusalem Bible, the one Mother Angelica liked. The psalms are the Grail translation and it was published in London.
Durability? No matter a plastic, paper, of leather cover; If you want durability get a Bible cover. They sell them everywhere have pen and pencil loop, zippers, to store tabs or whatever, and a handle to carry.
If only I had better eyesight. I've just accepted that I need large print, and use my iPhone as my EDC. The YouVersion Bible app let's me change the text size, compare versions, etc. I love using a paper bible and would prefer having one on me at all times, but as it stands my behemoth Oxford NABRE large print bible will have to stay home and guard my desk.
I too have a borderline obsession of Bibles. I just got the Oxford one you suggested. Comparing it to the red zipper Ignatius compact Bible the font and layout is exactly the same (even the page numbers are exactly the same!). That being said. I do like the Oxford for it's ribbon holder placement, it does have slightly whiter pages which is more pleasant to my eyes and the hard cover is nice to the touch. While I liked the ignatius for the protection the constant zipping and unzipping can get a little annoying and a little in the way. I have been using the full size Ignatius RSV 2nd edition faux leather as my daily but I think I'm going to swap for the Oxford for a while and see if I like it.
yeah that zipper was cool for like a month and then I was done with it. That big RSV faux leather one is super nice, it's what we decked all the catechesis classrooms out with. I have a hard time using it in prayer though for some weird reason. It feels almost too special and untouchable lol. Thanks for the comment!!! When can I start promoting YOUR youtube channel?????
Haha. I understand about praying with the bigger RSV. I had to rip that band aid off when I started underlining and writing notes in it to help pray in it. Once I did though it was glorious. The only small issue now is I used it so much the ribbons are starting to fray. And I'm hoping to put my first videos up in August. Actually going to be shooting my first video tomorrow! I'll let you know.
shoot dang that's a good question. I do appreciate the red letters, but sometimes I get distracted by them. I'd probably choose black over red if I was hard pressed.
Edmund, thank you for witnessing to your Christian Faith. The title of our church is The Roman Catholic Church. Catholic means universal. Globally there are many churches have Catholic in their titles. It would respectful to those Catholics to use the full title of our church: The Roman Catholic Church
I just ordered your #1. Thank you for the info. I use the big, red hardcover New Oxford Annotated NRSV Bible at home, but I need a purse version. I love the hardcover, and I love the look of the little blue one. Cant wait to get it friday!
I don't know why all these millennials reviewing Bibles are calling the bookmark ribbons in them "tassels". A ribbon and a tassel don't look anything alike. Those Bibles have ribbons.
My current favorite Bible is The New American Standard Bible (NASB). I am a fan of The New Jerusalem Bible and am very much looking forward to the new revised addition coming out in 2019. Oh. I almost had a stroke when you through the Bible! LOL
Mark, you do realize the New American Standard Bible does NOT have the Deutero-canonical books in the O.T., right? Did you perhaps confuse the NASB with the RNAB (Revised New American Bible), which, depending on your point-of-view, is a Catholic bible?
What's YOUR everyday carry for prayer? Bible? Journal? LOTH? LOTR?
Definitely the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary from Baronius Press. It's beautiful, functional, and has Gregorian Chant in the back. Why no review of the Douay-Rheims? That's my preferred "reading and studying" Bible.
Nice pick! Do you know of a pocket douay-Rheims that would make a good everyday carry bible?
The pocket size Douay-Rheims that Baronius Press puts out might be about what you are looking for.

Very interesting. Buddhists teach exactly the same thing about their holy texts and sacred objects.

I know this is an older video, but this definitely helped. I'm shopping around for a new bible and this helped me to filter through all the options
I ordered a Baronius Press Douay rheims Bible, pocket size, and can’t wait to get it. It looks both beautiful inside and out.
I added a full set of ribbons to mine also.

The Bible I was presented during RCIA was paperback, but I made a cover in duct tape, added tabs, and started highlighting with wax crayon anyway.
that's the spirit!
"Can I do that? I don't know if I can do that." 😆😆😆 answer: definitely not intentionally.
lol busted
thanks as a someone who is gonna take RCIa classes to be Catholic I really need help to find the right Bible. THank you:)
awesome! no prob
I know this is an older comment but when I did rcia we’re given versions of the same bible that is used in mass I’m in Canada so all Canadians Roman Catholic Churches use the new revised standard version Catholic edition
Dude I did RCIA a few years ago you get a stinking FREE CATECHISM and BIBLE wooot
Curious if you still carry a pocket Bible everywhere ? Been thinking about doing the same.
Respect.
Good idea! Clear contact paper also works.
Hi, you missed the "New Testament, Confraternity Edition, Pocket Size" - it is palm size.
mtomas7 i 2nd this!
Really like your videoa, keep it up!
thanks so much! so glad to connect
Please please please never throw a Bible that way, it’s very disrespectful
At the VERY LEAST, give it to someone who can use it. NEVER EVER THROW IT AWAY!!!
@@christiannguyen1266Please don’t give someone an NAB as their first Bible
Unless it’s a Mormon or Jehovah Witness version. Then please do.
I screamed aloud when I saw him throw the Bible. I couldn't believe it.
Can you compare print size too? I have bought some and can't read them due to small print. Great video,
Raksha Pandya This is a big concern for me, too...
I have an number of bibles but the I travel with is the zipper one and it is amazing. I have been keeping it in my work bag for weeks and it has shown no signs of wear at all.
I never liked hard covered Bibles, I prefer flexible covers. My go-to is the RSVce Zipper cover in back pack. My go-to at home is the Douay-Rheims.
loved this video! i’m going to be purchasing the last pocket bible! it’s beautiful! i’ve needed something that i can take to my catholic studies in college that’s not my large bible! definitely earned a sub!
Thanks so much molly
I’ll probably end up getting a rebind soon after I receive it 👍🏻
Y’all got it going on over here!
Love this dude! Well done. Going to add this link to my recent review of the Great Adventure Timeline Bible. Thanks.
Respect to you because you're a Brother in Christ but you shouldn't throw the bibles around. They are not normal books. 🙂
Great video! I appreciate the comparisons and information you shared.
FYI- Little Ignatius RSV NT/Psalms with the blue cover, is bonded leather not imitation leather. Also, they are actually flat silk or nylon ribbons, not "tassles." Thanks for the interesting video. Peace.
DANG you should do review videos, you got that KNOWLEDGE. Thanks for the insight!
Which of these have Christ's words in red?
What do you think of using the portable size as a prayer bible - Protestants put flags in for different subjects to pray.
Blessings
I've been meaning to do an update, stay tuned!!!
No way would i be able to see the print on those pocket bibles. I have the red paperback NABRE and KJV i struggle to see the print on those.
Hi! I just found your channel! This video is great!
thanks!
Have you used the Oxford University press RSV compact Bible? In India, where I live, it's pretty hard to come across a Catholic compact edition Bible. It becomes extremely expensive with the shipping charges
Yeah! That's the one I review in the video and is my new favorite. That's a bummer though that the shipping is so expensive...
There is pocket edition of nlt catholic edition, christian community bible pocket edition in india
whoa I'll have to peep that
Thank you! I was just looking at all the Catholic NRSV compact bibles and couldn’t decide. This video was perfect! Thank you!
Excelente video gracias
Where is your link on the last gorgeous bible? I also want to have a copy of it... seems handy & sturdy. Please send the link😉
How much is the Catholic reverse stand version
For me, print size is important. I have a NAB smaller edition which has very small print and I’m not a fan of this translation. I prefer the RSV which I use daily at home given its size. Finding a Bible cover for this RSV has been a great plus, makes it flexible for travel. Thank you for your reviews!
I have the Douay-Rheims pocket Bible a friend gave me. She had my name put on it to make it special. It has 2 ribbons as well.
I’m looking for a travel everyday English catholic bible... any suggestions?
So, just remember the approved translations by USCCB are basically the NABRE and NRSV-CE. Plenty of people use the RSV-CE, but it's not technically approved by USCCB.
How much is the reverse standard version
Oh nice I just ordered the last one. Good to know I picked a decent quality Bible.
I read from one of the reviews in Amazon where the Red Zipped Bible lacks verses for Sirach. Can you confirm this with the copy you have with you?
OmG why you just throw the bible (2:39), do that in front of a theologians or bible scholars and surely they will scold you... just like our priest who is also a bible scholar, one time I change the position of the bible on the shelves, I just put it up standing, the original position was laid reverently or lying down and he scolded me when he saw it, he told me that I must respect the bible because it is the word of God, that we should respect it with due reverence.
I cannot find the second bible anywhere where can I find one?
Could you do bible reviews on particular qualities of books that have a good texture of pages and they have a good amount of pages too
They are ribbons, not tassels. 😉💕
My eyes when you threw the New American Bible: 😳
Edmund Nice Video Thanks , I know this is an older video , is it still your favorite or do you have another recommendation for a Personal size Catholic Bible (5x7) Thank you and God Bless
😳😳 You CAN'T throw The Bible like that!
I use the Compact Douay Rheims Bible Baronius Press.
M8 have you ever read Leviticus it is the least likely book you would use for prayer
My name is Matthew McGuire and my favorite bible is the Catholic Living Bible but there is no tassel to move around in the bible I give it a 9 out of a ten God bless you do you know any commentaries on the bible to read for bible study ?
I got the hardcover one (the little blue one) and I love it
good call ;)
My current bible is the ESV-CE from Augustine Institute
check for Acts 8:37 - many of the newer bibles don't have this so they can promote the non-Biblical practice of baptizing infants.
I'll include a quote from the Douay-Rheims,
John, Chapter 14,
"16 And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever.
Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid."
DRV
The footnotes offer further explanation;
"Chap. 14. Ver.
Ver. 26. 'Teach you all things.' Here the Holy Ghost is promised to the apostles and their successors, particularly, in order to teach them all truth, and to preserve them from error."
I know it's a lot I responded with, but it is absolutely heartbreaking that you fell into the protestant trap, and furthermore teach this false doctrine.
Truth = God's Truth.
1 - Jesus Christ IS Truth = John 14:6 (notice, it says nothing about Mary being Truth)
2 - Thy Word IS Truth = John 17:17 (nothing saying 'tradition' is Truth)
3 - Thy Commandments ARE Truth = Psalm 119:142,151 (this would imply that all Ten Commands = Truth)
do you agree with 1,2 and 3 - or do you not?
thanks for reading - after work, i plan on our discussion moving forward.
have a safe and good day, Sir!
My kingdom for the 1941 CDC revision of the Challoner revision. It's published by Scepter, but the print is too small
That last hardcover bible has been my favourite for the past decade and the print size isn’t rubbish
That's the Oxford compact RSV Catholic, am I right? I'm in the midst of considering to buy it. I'm a King James reader but I've been interested to buy a Catholic Bible for to read the Apocryphal books. So you think this Oxford would be a value buy? Thanks
Danny Kit it is. Highly recommended
I carry 3 different bibles. Kjb, Rsv Catholic bible, and a new world translation. I read multiple different apps as well.
Geneva, Septuagint, Duoay Rheims, and Book of Enoch.
you carry all three with you at the same time?!??!
Tyndale. Etc
Once I get a place to keep them of course. I've been homeless for a while now. But God always provides. I somehow always get what I need when I really need it. No such thing as a coincidence. Only SYNCHRONITIES !
Fr Edmund I use good new Bible it's yellow colour
Is there any Catholic Bible publisher similar to Schuyler or Cambridge?
Just an FYI , your favorite Bible that you linked , the blue one, says it is from Oxford University Press, not Ignatius. :)
Definitely, you've got a good vision cause lot's of the bibles are small!
Does the last one lay flat for reading?
The Ignatius Press bible (the brown faux leather without the zipper) looks just like my NAB from Oxford Press. The cover of mine is dark blue and black but the cover is stitched the same.
good day sir, there is a good "CATHOLIC MILITARY BIBLE" good for everyday carry and is waterproof. I think it is available in NABRE & RSVCE
Regarding the Bible you declare as your favourite - is it approved by the US or CAN Conference of Catholic Bishops?
Where can I get a douay rheims
With the quality of a KJV published by
Cambridge or Church Bible Publishers???
Baronius Press?
I’m looking for an RSV2CE pocket edition, but couldn’t find any. It’s either just the NT+Psalms or the first edition. Ever found one? Thanks
I’m having trouble finding the one you said was your favorite. Can someone comment the link here?
This guy just knows how to talk to a camera, bravo
Is the last one the complete bible? I read on a amazon review that some verses were missing.
Where did you get your cross necklace?
long story.... in Assisi
I got the Little cloth over board one and I was wondering if there were other translations with similiar volumes and covers. Recommend at least one(anyone).
I'm not sure, I'll try to do more research
Very helpful presentation, thank you.
my carry bible is better than all you have, mine is a hardbound brown leather bible, as small as the zipper bible you have but thicker. it has 2 tassels for the OT & NT, it has maps, & it has book tabs. it was given to me by my parents for school, I've had it for 25 years now and still looks great!
nenabunena I need photos of this!!!
nenabunena pics or its not real.
Yeah, Tyrone already mentioned it, but a ribbon is not a tassel. Tassels are usually string or cord-like with a fringy thing on the end. A ribbon is a ribbon. But seriously, I enjoyed your video a lot. Like the kid stars too. 😃
I really like my new CTS NEW CATHOLIC BIBLE Presentation edition. It's a hard cover but very compact and it feels good in the hand... three ribbons: maroon, gold, and red. It's a new Anglicized version of the Jerusalem Bible, the one Mother Angelica liked. The psalms are the Grail translation and it was published in London.
I can only fit a Douay/Rheims NT in my back pocket. It's not the sword but a " dagger"
I really like the RSV CE New Testament from Ignatius - high quality.
Hello! I hope you are doing well 🙂
Awesome thanks for sharing.
Durability? No matter a plastic, paper, of leather cover; If you want durability get a Bible cover. They sell them everywhere have pen and pencil loop, zippers, to store tabs or whatever, and a handle to carry.
DON'T. THROW. A. BIBLE
Why are you throwing the Bible?
I love a nice compact Bible, but have lost a lot of vision...Glaucoma....so I need pretty large fonts...
Why so many tho?
I often use the New World Translation, the TOB and the Bible of Jerusalem.
Question for you: Do you prefer red text or no red text for the words of Jesus in the Gospels?
August!!!!! can't wait
shoot dang that's a good question.
Awesome! You've got great taste
St. Joseph’s Personal Size Edition of NAB
This one ys my favorite
I Really love the Holy
Roman Catholic Bible
I don't know why all these millennials reviewing Bibles are calling the bookmark ribbons in them "tassels". A ribbon and a tassel don't look anything alike. Those Bibles have ribbons.
My current favorite Bible is The New American Standard Bible (NASB). I am a fan of The New Jerusalem Bible and am very much looking forward to the new revised addition coming out in 2019. Oh. I almost had a stroke when you through the Bible! LOL
yeah...me too... whoops
Mark, you do realize the New American Standard Bible does NOT have the Deutero-canonical books in the O.T., right? Did you perhaps confuse the NASB with the RNAB (Revised New American Bible), which, depending on your point-of-view, is a Catholic bible?
