    I did a few months in county and to be completely honest they can use more guards like this dude. He seems like a good guy. Being treated like a human being by a guard is noticed and is respected and appreciated.

    • @UniversitySecurity

      This is pretty accurate to what we served. We were required to pick random trays and eat the same food that inmates were. It wasn’t the best food I have ever had but it was far from the worse. Having served in the military, our daily was comparable at times to what was served in our jail. Some people have experiences in facilities with absolutely horrible food….It has to be nutritionally there, it doesn’t have to taste good. That’s a reality. People seem to have this concept that their experience in prison or jail from other parts of the country must be how it is everywhere else. I can tell you we did NOT serve blended food combos or meatloafs which are served in some facilities in violent / suicide prevention cells. Our Sheriff started his career in corrections and made it clear he wanted to maintain a certain standard.

    I have a legitimate question. There is another UA-cam channel called “JuiceAin’tFree” that shows what looks like a guy in solitary confinement commenting on his trays and showing his meals. I didn’t think inmates were allowed cell phones, much less create UA-cam channels.

    • @UniversitySecurity

      Their not allowed cell phones. They are considered contraband and have considerable value in jails and prisons. They are brought in by staff, drones and contact visitation.

      In regards to the trays, if it was my fault and I had walked away from the unit, they got to keep them. If they are attempting to steal from the cart it was a write up. I’m not fighting an inmate for a state cake, pick your battles. Food means a lot in institutions, just like shake downs don’t destroy the commissary. Get the job done and be respectful, it goes along way.

    Is it true that during the height of the COVID pandemic, prisoners were served more legitimate food like fast food?

    • @UniversitySecurity
      @UniversitySecurity  Рік тому +2

      Not at the facility I worked. The food we served was sourced from major chains…Chicken Patties were Tyson ext. Inmates may get outside food during hospital stays or during transport but it’s not common.

    • @UniversitySecurity
      @UniversitySecurity  10 місяців тому +2

      We didn't have one. We would randomly select a tray, and a supervisor would have to try the inmates food. My opinion was it was pretty normal for processed food. Tyson chicken nuggets ext. Officer's would have to do portion checks. example was ensuring 5 oz weight for the peanut butter sandwich.

With sugar tests at least twice a day. Of course they can refuse and that is seriously watched / documented.

      It’s not universal across the board. What is typical is minimum amount of require calories and an approved diet plan by a dietitian. What those calories are besides food can vary. Like the military, correctional institutions don’t always provide the best food….Or even commercial quality food. We were middle of the road in the inmates eyes…I thought it was fairly decent…Something along the lines of public school food in our local area.
