Why is the Mesa mic'ed straight, while the Orange has the mic at an angle? Even the same cab will sound different if you put the mic in a different spot.
Was about to say the same thing. The difference in the higher frequencies especially can be largely attributed to the on-axis vs off-axis difference, and that's the only thing we can safely learn about this comparison video.

Yeah, different speakers of the same model will sound different, & different as you radius the speaker. Let alone completely different micing.
_I played the 4x12 version of the Orange cab. 🎸🎵🎶🎥 The grill cloth is thick which makes it less bright but you can always add more brightness with the EQ anyway. 🎤 I liked playing it. Great demo!_
Playing metalcore, i am an Mesa 4x12's OS guy and at home i have an Orange 2x12.
I admit that i've never tried an Orange 4x12, but when i listen some records or videos about it, Mesa it's a very good compromise between versatility and equilibrated frequencies range tones.
I am telling you all that because in my opinion if you want to bring with you for a rig a 2x12, in my case i would take the orange, because Mesa 2x12 could be a little harsh and less versatil when you play at higher volumes, and sometimes at bedroom levels too.
For home recording (and if one day i want to play in small spaced room), i would pick it up the Orange 2x12, because to my ears it is not to harsh like a mesa 2x12. I thing that is a good compromise, if you want a Mesa 4x12 OS in a small version.
Never forget, the Orange PPC212 it is a lil bigger than another 2x12 cab, so it is more punchy and present. It has a nice bottom end too and a very nice mid frequencies and warmer sound, without be harsh it all.
I am considering these 2 types of celestions V30 on what i am saying.
Maybe i am wrong, but i percept this in this way. Listen is very important but thinking about it, i think it is too.
And to talk about Orange 4x12 between an Mesa 4x12 OS and the 4x12 traditional, it's another subject...Orange not for me...it sounds boxy to my ears, but with a very nice punch/mid range. And the Mesa 4x12 Traditional to harsh... Mesa 4x12 OS, a nice tone between the 2 others...that's my opinion.
I am talking about these cabs in metal music/genres, i am not an expert, just giving my view point.
A choice of a cab, depends on wich head amp are you using.

The exact 2 cabs I'm looking at to pair with a Victory Kraken. Super helpful video.
Note: I believe Mesa only uses UK V30s and several years ago, Orange began using Chinese V30s. Obviously they sound very similar, but that alone will account for some difference in sound.
Mesa's V30's are specifically voiced for Mesa.
Mesa would be my choice

Only the open back cab use chinese V30's. The close back does not. The open back cab is made in China. The closed back is made in England & the USA. Hence the $200.00 increase in the price.
Yea I have a 2012 closed back orange 4x12 and they are england made v30's
I literally run both cabs with a Dual Rec, sounds great mixed together.
Mesa sounds very harsh in the higher tones
Orange sounds more mid focused and a little more rounded and warmer I prefer the Orange
Wow a lot of difference between the two cabs.
Mesa for the clean sound, has a nice chime in front sounding. Orange to me is utter filth sound, great for heavy rock with a les Paul.
This video confirmed it for me, l just picked up a Recto compact cab, getting a 5150 head for it hopefully in next couple of days.

I liked Orange better for clean to mild crunch, however as gain went up it was all Mesa for me.

Very good indeed! Both very faithful for their aims: Mesa has a louder clear sound, highs as clearer and bottom end longing... Orange has middle frequencies its best point; crunchier, rocky, classical. MEsa has tons of bass ready to be unleashed, Orange focuses on the nasal sound.
Again, Orange has the best, in my view.

What ohms did you use on the amp. The orange is a 16ohm cab and the Mesa is 8ohm.
If you want a metal friendly amp you should have to go with mesa but if you you are a mild and soft tone lover you should buy a orange
Im not saying that the orange cant sound metal it is expensive and sounds very good but my opinion is for these two cabinets mesa cant able to produce sound like orange mild and soft and cant sound as heavy as orange but the thing is mesa has its own different kind of sound that orange cant able to produce like that and mesa not able to produce like orange both are very diffrent bro

Orange is just warmer . Orange Can make a bass anemic amp like an jcm 800 sound nice and full in the low end spectrum.
Should the clean tones distort like that, it sounds like clipping?
Mesa is so bright, would be great for lead guitar (help cut through the mix) orange has way more texture to the sounds it produces and seems to have perfect mids!!!

great question! I think it depends what you want to hear more of in your guitar tone - more bass (orange) or more modern type (mesa). I will answer this more in-depth in a future video.
Orange all the way. Tighter and if you ever played them in a room with the same head are way louder
That’s exactly what I was thinking- the punch is almost twice as loud at the same levels.
Leaning more towards orange on this one.. I wonder how my Marshall SV20 would sound through it, I’d use for more vintage tone. I also plan to get the evh stealth 50 amp head for more high gain stuff. I play fender guitars so I feel the orange cabinet can help give me more bass to my tone
The recto sounds better to my ears. More presence in the sound. Cant beat recto cab.
