The Mesas just sit so well in a mix. Lately I have been on a Marshall kick. I recently got a 1982 JCM800 4x12 with original Rola 65s and a 1960a loaded with Marshall Vintage and DV77s. The 1982 is the angriest cab I have ever heard, and the combo I have in the 1960a is a match made in heaven.
The Bogner kinda had that "bell tone" that is so coveted in bass amps. Interesting. This was a great comparison, thanks!. What I woils have found invaluable is to be able to see your eq settings. Frequency response is the name of the game, and a great equalizer can make almost any cab sound good. So each cab has its own starting point and it's good to see where it stands in the spectrum. It would also be great if you could compare your favorite eq settings with a flat setting.
I’m an old dude so the Marshall with V30 is pretty much the tone that’s imprinted in my brain. Gonna give some love to the Bogner cab though. They do some killer amps and cabs.
What a great shootout! Plus hearing you noodle around and reacting on the spot is gold. I'm a sucker for Marshall gear (not for down-tuned music) but the difference with the Vintage G12s in the last clip is crazy. Really considering having one of my Marshall cabs loaded with these. Thanks Mendel 🙂
Thanks for the reply yes it seems to be missing some of the information to fully sit in a mix. Tossing up between the Mesa traditional and the orange. Thanks again😊@@Itsallawesome
I'm glad I found this video. I own the Mesa Traditional. I bought it over the OS because it was the only one in stock. I love the cab but have always wondered how it would compare to the OS.
Great video, awesome playing and sound quality. Some constructive feedback would be to pay attention to edits and getting rid of unnecessary banter. Otherwise I really enjoyed the playthroughs. Keep up the good work.
Trying to decide between the mesa traditional and the bogner. I run a engl fireball 100 and a direwolf in front with a 10band eq. Great comparison video!
Great video and surprisingly I prefer the mesa Standard here but, though the Marshall sound brittle/harsh you'd be able to eq to taste but for the sake of a read across test that would be confusing. Reckon they'd all work well adjusting the amp.
The mesa is my favourite, Bogner is also good. I really don't like the 1960A cause of the high freq. as you said. 1960 V30 is alright. I think the mesa is the most balanced and has nice mids
What year was the Mesa Traditional produced? I'm finally looking to get myself an old 4x12 Mesa and I'm not sure if I should get a straight or slant one, which of the two types do you prefer?
In my opinion the projection from the mesa OS straight bottom cabinet is a benefit for the bottom end and lower mids, also has the capability for plenty of top end if that’s what your looking for. When really pushed at higher volume levels in bigger venues is where the difference can be heard and felt with the OS cabinet. Another benefit is that not as many people have the straight bottom cabinet compared to the oh so common slanted top cabinet, So might be advantageous to keep from possibly getting mixed up at shows with multiple bands on the ticket, and strange things do tend to happen when more hands are around expensive equipment. Zakk Wylde is who turned me onto the OS straight bottom cabinets and I’m glad to have a pair of them, They are Monstrous! Grabbing a pair of the Orange PPC412 straight bottom cabinets with the vintage 30’s will be my next choice.
Great comparison guys, I agree, the Traditional is an awesome cab, I like my Rectifier with my Traditional 4X12 but I think it has too much mids for my 6505+.
@@JaimeNoro I think the Mesa Oversized sounds fantastic with the 6505/+, the Uberkab, even the Traditional if you have the chance to play loud. I'm selling mine in favour of the OS 'cause I sold my Dual for a Diezel Vh4.
@@JaimeNoro I havent played the Oversized can but I have the Mesa Traditional and I use it with my 6505, KSR, and EVH 5153 100w Stealth. I think it sounds awesome. There is nothing I don't like about it and you can easily EQ some mids out if you need to.b
Impressive demo... I really liked it... I prefer the definition of the bogner and the boogie table... I wanted to ask you about the guitar...which one is it? It sounds incredible too
TBH the oversized is better for solos, or if you're blending chainsaw tones with a normal amp tone, run the normal amp through the Mesa Trad and your chainsaw sound through the Mesa OS. Also, for people parallel processing bass into 3 sections, and reamping their bass through a guitar amp for one of those, use the OS for that.
I think de Marshall 1960AV has the speakers Marshall G12 Vintage By Celestion , not V30 , unless has been change by user by V30 speakers, because from factory the Marshall 1960AV has the G12 Vintage ( and 1960A has the G12T-75 )
First equal 13:32 orange 6:21 Mesa traditional Second place 23:21 Marshall v30 Wish you'd played the same riff on all amps. Can't compare the bogner because you don't play the same riff on it
Interestingly when the room mics are playing especially on the Orange you can't really hear the ringiness noise, but the SM57 has that top end ringy noise. Could this be a mic placement issue? Or is this something that naturally happens? Quite a bit of difference when the 57 is right in front of the cab vs what it actually sounds in the room.
That Orange seals the deal for me it’s so tight and the fullness from an Orange you can’t beat… Can’t wait to get an PPC412 angled for my Marshall DSL 100HR
Ditching the big cabs and going mostly with the OX was the smartest thing I’ve ever done. I do like the 212s for stage volume though. Great comparison!
I think the Mesa OS sounded the best, but I’m partial to the Orange, the low end and mids are so nice to my ear. The first Marshall sounded like ass the second was great.

That 1960 AV is amazing!
Obviously MESAs and the Bogner are incredible, but probably the Marshall is more versatile.
Really thank you!
That Marshall cab sounds incredible ❤
Great comparison Mendel, thanks, looking forward to getting these IRs... Greetings from Ireland!
The Bogner sounds the most balanced and studio ready to my ears. The traditional Mesa is a good second. I would very much steer clear of the orange.
Why's that?
@@rikosimmo I don’t think the orange tone sits too well in a complex mix. On their own, they sound cool.

Was there a part 2 to this cab comparison?
The orange sounded nasal compared to the mesa cabs.
The mesa cabs sounded by far the best.
The Orange sounds like the Bogner and the Mesa OS all at once, but with a darker mid range.
The orange is straight the other slant. This make big difference.
Bogner straight is awesome.
What is powering the cab from the quad cortex?
Solid state power amp? Just wondering because impedance curves would vary

Is the 2x12 a lot louder?
I downloaded the free IR pack in the description, I only ask, what is the “m vol” cab based on? That one is my favorite!
All different cabs and blends.
