    🎸Mic Setup🎸
    Pause the video at the start to see the mic setup and specs. Each cab was mic’d with an SM57 where the dustup meets the cone (I used a torch to make sure they are all exactly in the same part of the speaker). An SE Ribbon mic was placed exactly 1 meter from the centre of each cab to get a better image of how the cab sounded in the room. I phase aligned these two mics in post and mixed them together. Let me know which cab you liked best 👍

    Toby thanks for producing great examples of gear. Short samples flicked between makes it easier to hear the difference, lotta working just editing and keeping it all alined. My take the 2x12 vertical is raspy more for modern articulate players, the 2x12 horizontal fuller more low mids and bottom end and the 2x12 open back might be depended on what's behind the cab such as brick wall timber curtains, it might be the harder cab to dial in. Cheers mate.

    I've listened to this a few times over the last week or so trying to decide which cab to match with my AD30. I hear different things every time! And as I re-listen over and over each time, my ears fatigue and I change my mind 3 or 4 times in as many minutes. So confusing! Sound differences aside, the vertical works for me in my situation and for where I'm going to store it and use it so I might just have to jump on that and swap the speakers out if I decide I really don't like them in person. Very helpful vid, thanks!

      I’ve discovered that listening to shootouts like this are pretty much pointless for me. I’ve watched speaker shootouts that compare about a dozen different speakers, and I will find that I will pick one that I like the sound of, but then after I listen to all the other speakers and come back to the one I liked, it doesn’t sound the same as I first thought it did. The only thing I really get from shootouts is that I can usually pick out ones that I definitely don’t like. But any of the remaining choices will all sound good if I listen to it long enough without listening to others.

    Hey Toby, excellent video! This is the best channel in UA-cam for amp/cab demos and comparisons for me. One question, if you only get to have one of these cabs to use live, for recording, and just for bedroom playing, which one would you pick if you pair it with an OR15 head?

    • @TobysGuitarGearDemos
      @TobysGuitarGearDemos  5 місяців тому

      Hey, cheers. The OR15 is a fat sounding amp. Both the Neo Creamback and V30 speakers sound very good with the OR15.
      I like vertical cabinets for live as they don't just shoot all the sound at your feet+knees. For me the perfect Orange cab would be the vertical with one of the speakers replaced with a V30. So you'd have a vertical 2x12 with the mix of a V30 and a Neo Creamback. Both fantastic speakers but different which is really useful for live + recording. Having the option to mic a different speaker is really useful. It's a very easy change to make and you can sell the speaker you take out.
      If you don't feel like swapping a speaker then I'd make a decision between 212 closed back and the 212V.. Depending on how they sound in this video 👍

    I originally planned to get the vertical one (I like the look better), but after listening to this, I will definitely consider the standard PPC212 and just put feet on its side to use it vertically. • @hellywoodnet
      @hellywoodnet 3 роки тому

      @@DelScully Matter of taste - Toby's recording as always sounds great, but I just don't like the speaker, it's too "generic". V30 hype is because they are so popular, a safe "go to" speaker for so many years now so probably companies in a mass segment of gear don't want to risk and offer something better but less known. But if you compare in the same cab V30 to i.e. Celestion Fullback (one of their newer models if I am right, I own 12" and 15"), or Eminence Wizard, the difference is noticeable - 'more of everything', better lows and less harsh on extreme gains. They cost same or less (depends on the market) so upgrading a cab is not as painfull to the pocket, regarding V30 are easy to sell for a good price.
