Initial review: because of the negative review in this video I almost did not buy this cordless vacuum. I found a refurbished unit on Amazon 186 on sale. I used credit card points and a gift certificate and got it for $140. I live in an old, small shotgun house. This Dyson is much more practical than my big corded vacuum cleaner. This thing really scrubs the hair off of carpeting and can reach so many more spaces. It's also extremely convenient not having to fiddle with the cord. So far I'm very happy with this purchase
I think it's important to consider how you plan to clean with your vacuum. I've always owned 2 vacuums: a wired one and wireless one. The wired vacuums are always the best and clean the deepest, but are heavier, need to be near an outlet, and require keeping an eye on the wire. The wireless ones are good for quick cleans, spot cleaning, and utilizing the attachments for spots they miss (like the crevice tool of stuff on the bottom of a base board). I like to clean my house twice a week with the the cordless vacuum, and can do a quick clean in a 4 bedroom house in under 20 min. Then maybe once every 2 months I go over the whole house with a full powered vacuum (or if there is some really bad mess where I need more power). Neither a wired or wireless vacuum is going to be the best all around vacuum. However, as a far as WIRELESS vacuums go, I still found the Dyson to be the very best and most versatile. By the way, the "trigger" which annoys some people is there to conserve power. This way you are only burning through the battery when you're using the vac. No chance of stepping away for a seconded and the vacuum still running and wasting power.
I also own 2 types of cleaning equipment (well, not vacuums). Don't know if you're familiar with walis tambo and walis tingting but I use one depending on what I need to clean and how it needs to be cleaned. No batteries required, just manpower. Each cost less than 5$. Welcome to the Philippines. Lol
I have two V7’s, both of which developed the same problem, the machine head stopped spinning. The problem turned out to be that the substandard wire used broke. Dyson replaced one head, as it was under warranty, the other was expired. I took machine heads apart and found that the wires had snapped, by the swivel area, ( on both machines). These wires were two small and fragile to hold up to the vigors of constant use, and doomed to fail, ( in my opinion they should have been recalled). I soldered wires and put a protective heat shrink wrap on them, hopefully that will protect them from future failure.
I'm pleased you point out the 'lower' low power setting on the V7 - I supplanted our old DC31 with it, and I'm finding the low power setting all but worthless for anything except running it over clothes or other loose items and scaring the heck out of spiders.
Let's go deeper:) The tiny wires in the motor head wear out. Therefore it is designed to fail after a while. The construction of the whole unit is extremely delicate. The wafer thin clear plastic dust holder I just know would crack or maybe even shatter if you so much as banged it against a door jam. Eg don't let the kids have a play. My one, the drop door latch is already broken. (No kids) I managed to fix it with superglue and baking powder. Extended warrantys enrage me! YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF PEOPLE. I'm not just having a poke at dyson. It's all across the world with everything designed to make you come back. Tremendous implications for waste which we also have to pay for. I believe ALL manufacturing company's should not be allowed to sell ANYTHING unless it comes with at least a 10 year guarantee. BLAME all your politicians for continued lowering of standards for bribes just for another fattie behind the scenes. Dyson isn't even chinese. Having said all this I do like my D7. It does a great job though id never buy another if I can't fix it myself. I'm poor. WATCH YOUR BACK LOOK AFTER THE FUTURE.
For $400 I can't believe it only runs 20 mins max. I am much happier with my Roomba that runs about an hour and a half and I don't have to be there! Much more value. And then I have a $50 hand vac for corners and quick clean spot clean ups. :) Thank you for your review! Very helpful.
Don't know where you're shopping but the price at a very popular online seller is $250 not $400, but yes the runtime performance is quite underwhelming for $250, or even $150. I think they saw that on the V6 when they switched to lower power for V7, but it was the wrong thing to do. Instead they should have doubled the battery capacity but I'm sure some beancounter declared that it would be a pound heavier so let's not spend the money on a larger battery pack.
Hi, I have just purchased a different version of V7, which is called Fluffy. It basically has the soft rolling cleaner head and the mini rolling head (they also come with the Absolute but not with the Motorhead). We are pretty satisfied so far, as we have no carpets, but parquet all over our apartment. We got is with a discount, which makes the purchase even more satisfying :)
i purchased two Bissell handheld vacuums prior to purchasing my V7. both Bissell models died within a year. i’ve owned my V7 for over a year now and it’s been an absolute BEAST! it has incredible power and battery life for it’s size. the combined expense of purchasing two Bissell’s cost more than one V7, so purchasing the Dyson was ultimately a money saving proposition.
Thank you for this video. I canceled my order after this. I have an upright ball dc27 animal for about a decade now, amazing vacuum and love it. Was just hoping to go cordless because i figure Id vacuum more often, not needing to deal with the cord and being lighter. But seeing this video I know id be disappointed and would compare the performance to my dc27. So thank you.
IF only I had done this research before I bought the V7 animal. I love the cordless feature and it really does a great job on upholstery. I also use it for quick pickup between major cleans with my Rainbow. But if I had it to do over, I wouldn't have spent $300 for a cordless vac that doesn't deep clean and charges for 3.5 hours for 6 minutes at Max suction. Phoooey on Dyson!!!
If you had bought it from a seller with a good return policy, odds are you could have returned it after the first time you noticed how the runtime didn't suit your needs. Always research the seller's return policy on a luxury tech item. Funny how I'm calling a stick vac a tech item but we have to pretend that's what it is to justify the price point.
Yeah, every time I turn around, the chili pepper fairy has deposited more flakes against my baseboard. I'll catch that darn fairy if it's the last thing I do !!! I'm thinking a roomba with a top mounted shark with fricken lasers to patrol the area. Fairies hate lasers.
Totally love your honest reviews. You are not biased in anyway, unlike a lot of Dyson lovers on UA-cam. that was interesting to see the poor edge performance & it's disappointing. But Dyson have converted people with their lies as alwars. May I point out that if you continuously run the Dyson V cordless models on Max a lot, you will experience battery problems far sooner than the 2 year warranty expires. The battery on my V8 Absolute only lasts 3 minutes now - it's knackered already. Also I think that Dyson didnt do not swappable batteries as they maybr concerned due to the issues they had on the DC35 or they are concerned the electronics or motor wouldn't maintain reliability over time if you can just keep using it for ages Possibly it could be due to the poor batteries they use
blakaeg funny because my warranty expired a few months ago right when the red flashy light came on indicating faulty battery ... how convenient.. I’m going try out a shark vacuum instead .
To extend the life of the lithium batteries, do not drain the battery to zero. Also, don't charge it to 100% (80% is best), but that may be impossible since there's no charge level indicator.
Hi Sir, am I correct that if the packaging only says Dyson V7 Motörhead which mean it doesn’t come with the V8 soft roll in your second demonstration which mean I need to purchase extra head, but still fit in V7. So, all I need is buy end extra roll + V7 or would you recommend me just purchase a V8 head instead? Since I don’t know how much just the head cost by itself , because between V7 & V8, there is a $350 difference. Look forward to hear from you. 🙂
I have a V7 - very nice not to wrestle with the cord. But at 21 AW - that's just a fraction of the 270 AW of your corded Dyson. I usually leave the V7 on the reg power setting since max power lasts only 6 mins. Have a carpeted low-cut shag apartment. Do you think I still need a corded vac eg a Dyson Ball for deep cleaning the dust mites ?
The run times on them is ridiculously pathetic if you have a huge ass living room and 4 bedrooms. I was gonna buy the this in the morning but it’s deffo not worth the money for such a laughable running time. Btw, great review and thanks for all the info I needed to know
Thanks for uploading this video! I bought a v7 to replace my Dyson upright and was gonna sell it online. But after watching this I'm definitely going to keep my upright as a back up.
Which one should I buy? Fluffy or Motorhead? I don't care about large debris, I just want regular dust cleaning and i have both barefloors(mostly) and only a few carpeted areas.
Honestly the best vacuum we have in 25 years now...(my parents bought it when i was born) it's Hoover.. It's a monster. Dyson wirless or not will never be like the old hoover.
Umm, yeah, you need to clean the whole thing. Since it is translucent, you should be able to get an idea when there is gunk buildup and just clean the filter until that accumulation builds up.
A quick NOTE: Yes, you CAN get a Dyson V7 WITH a HEPA filter. It depends on what version of the Dyson V7 you purchase (example: "Dyson V7 Complete", among others). The HEPA unit/component stands out visually at the end of the vacuum.
A March, 2018 article on ConsumerReports stated "In the fall, the V6 and V8 lines will be discontinued. Two V7 models will remain on shelves, alongside full-priced options from the Dyson Cyclone V10 series, which launched this week." I don't know how accurate or true this is however.
Our tests showed the V7 Motorhead in Low power mode lasted 23 min 28 seconds, and in Max power mode it lasted 6 min 22 seconds. The vacuum comes with a charging unit and you plug one end into the wall and the other end into the back of the vacuum grip (near the bottom). A full charge on the V7 takes about 3.5 hours. You may want to check out: ua-cam.com/video/sK22uUW_PXM/v-deo.html
Is the lower suction power enough for mild dust around the house? Because in no way I have as much junk like the debris field that max suction test has ... thanks!
Yes it is, except possibly on deep carpet but then you probably want a tool with a more aggressive beater brush. Often a key to getting up mere dust with a weak/stick is vac it up while it lies in the surface of carpet instead of walking on it and working it down in, and this saves wear on your carpet too. So, the convenience of a cordless stick vac can help there but only if it results in you using it more often.
We were able to run the soft roller cleaner head (from our V8 Absolute stick vac) on our V7 Trigger handheld vacuum. As far as I know the V7 handheld and the V7 stick vacuum would have the same suction power figures.
Damn I was almost kicking myself for not getting the soft roller blade attachment with my V7 but then remembered I never let my floor get that dirty in the first place! 🤔
Any and every rotating brush cleaner will wrap the hair around it and need cleaned out manually. Scissors are easier, sneak up on her when she is asleep.
I used this the other day. I was shocked at how bad it was. Had to use max power to get any decent suction. Lasted about ten minutes at the most. Terrible
Mine last longer than that. The batteries are only held in with two screws. u can remove those two screws, get another battery and then you can change out anytime. I use a velco strap to hold the battery in, since you leave the screws out. Some people insert some sort of plug into the charging hole to hold the battery in place or you can simply screw the outer screw back in, it will hold it in fine. The velco strap was easy for me and works great. Also, purchase a quality 3000mah battery. It runs longer.
The battery can be swapped out. That's crap. Just have to unscrew the screws first. Also on one of the more expensive models, you can swap the battery out for a fresh charged one!
Suction on high is excellent however battery takes 3.5 hours to charge and only last 15 minutes????? Trigger grip has to be constantly depressed and is uncomfortable. Is good for small cleanups but a a lot of money just for that....
I had a conversation with an employee st a store here in canada called the source. He told me dyson was about to make an exclusive vacuum cleaner but couldn't make/design a battery affordable to market etc. Anyway, i ended buying this version but the newest generation today and found out on max mode it only last 6mins not the 30mins advertised on their box. I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING. I paid $400 and got a free car accessory kit worth $60. Fuck that, im returning this shit asap. Couldnt even pick up cereal what a shame. And whats with the brush head that swept the same cereal pile? An upgrade?! Lol, im so happy it's still sealed. What was I thinking?
They don’t allow the battery to swap because that would allow you to avoid buying a more expensive model if you want more run time. Also enforces planned obsolescence
Yes it can. The soft roller cleaner head that comes with the V7 Absolute is best for bare floors (the Absolute comes with 2 cleaner heads - direct drive and soft roller). However if you only have the direct drive cleaner head (comes with the Motorhead and Animal) you can still use it on bare surfaces - it just won't pick up as well as the soft roller cleaner head.
Great video, I have used DC62 and Battery is dead, Replace Battery is CAD 145, Dyson offer me to get V7 motorhead head with 20% off. I should not get V7. Thanks
Plastic product with 6 minutes runtime (low does not count, anyone could just run their product slower) is worth $80. People get mesmerized by the artistic robot-tron look then forget that nobody will think they are from the future while spotted doing manual labor to clean their floor, lol.
thanks for telling me the true before i waste my money on this overpriced product... is a must removable battery, also should be able to use with a cord when needed.......
I'd counter that if they just had a larger removable battery, and included a 2nd battery at this price along with a quick charge dock, that you wouldn't really need the ability to use a cord. Then again for what they'd want for a 2nd battery, you could just buy a 2nd corded stick vac. Then again for what they want for it with ONE battery, you could just buy another brand and buy a corded stick vac so yeah, the value of the product is questionable, unless you live in a tiny efficiency apartment with very small sq ft to clean, but who that lives in such a little economy apartment, spends a premium on a stick vac? No one that I've ever met, if it's a little open area then a cord is less hassle and you may not need a cordless vac at all.
So inaccurate I have the V7 for 2 months Clocket 5 times Battery run 33 to 34 M (2) the trigger like holding it no resistance at all (How you get tired holding ? you can pass from left to the right without cutting the power off .Battery swapp 30 min vacuum its enough for me I will do my car but its to much doing all in one shot! Anyway that's me and I truly love the V7
V7. Just bought it. Not impressed at all. Charging it for 3 hours for 30 minutes. The bin function is not good. Plus it is not sturdy enough. The head goes in all directions. Just not worth the money. Picks up everything yes but overall not impressed. Loved your review though.
dude i already own the v7 but i just come here to listen to u talk about it cus u have such a chill voice

Thanks! I'll keep at it.

liked solely because of the soothing voice. fell asleep in 5min of video, found myself drooling on my desk.
Excellent, valuable analysis. Thank you for saving me from a costly Black Friday error. I won't buy anything until I read/watch your other reviews.
What a coincidence I wanted to buy this on this year's black Friday lol
I came for a Dyson vacuum review but I stayed for the ASMR
IF only I had done this research before I bought the V7 animal. I love the cordless feature and it really does a great job on upholstery. aaaaand now I'm gonna go shop for a corded Dyson. Thanks for the honest review
Was just about to order the animal . I think I will get the bigger one. My old model had several battery issues under warranty but still a pain .
this is unintentional ASMR. so satisfying to listen to.
@2:50 one broom swipe you done.
I subscribed when he said “we put down some chili flakes right up on the baseboards” , can you say thorough!
Glad I stumbled upon this. You answered all the questions I was looking for!
"Debris field"! Love it. Awesome review.
Really enjoy your videos great honest and thorough reviews
Thanks John john.
My girlfriend's V6 which is 5 years old still runs as long as it did when new don't know what you two are talking about.
To extend the life of the lithium batteries, do not drain the battery to zero. Also, don't charge it to 100% (80% is best), but that may be impossible since there's no charge level indicator.
Thank you for helping me decide which would be the best fit! So thorough!
Hi Elizabeth. I'm glad you found the video helpful.
which stick upright vacuum do you recommend for pets
Anybody else hear Vacuum Bob Ross?
🤣
Bahahahahaha
Definitely!!!
I listen to him when I can’t sleep. And want to relax
I had the exact same thought when watching this, before even seeing your comment.
Thank you for this. I nearly bought this and after checking your other reviews I'm thinking to go for the cable Dyson.
I will be grateful if u tell me which one I should buy for asthma, allergies & dust mites plzzz
_If you keep you home clean, carpet, etc then you probably don't even have dust mites.just normal dust and dirt_
such a great review
This is the benchmark for comparison videos. Good job
Thanks
Which Dyson Vacuum Cleaner has the best value?
Seems that the multi floor cleans better than V7.
Please share your thoughts. Thanks
The run times on them is ridiculously pathetic if you have a huge ass living room and 4 bedrooms. I was gonna buy the this in the morning but it’s deffo not worth the money for such a laughable running time. Btw, great review and thanks for all the info I needed to know
Does anyone know if the soft cleaner head for the v8 fits on the v7? I need to replace the head as the one I have broke
Hey Saki - I have taken the soft roller cleaner head off our V8 and attached it to our V7. It worked.
That's what the crevis tool is for
Hi can you please suggest me which 1 should i go for?
I have the v7 and honestly it works the same as my 50 dollar swifter floor vac! The battery life sucks on the v7
Honestly the best vacuum we have in 25 years now...(my parents bought it when i was born) it's Hoover..
It's a monster.
Dyson wirless or not will never be like the old hoover.
What should I be cleaning on my vacuum. I saw a video where he too the whole thing apart!! Thanks
Umm, yeah, you need to clean the whole thing. Since it is translucent, you should be able to get an idea when there is gunk buildup and just clean the filter until that accumulation builds up.
Great review helped me decide on my new hoover 👍
You are really great at what you do, Thank you.
A quick NOTE: Yes, you CAN get a Dyson V7 WITH a HEPA filter. It depends on what version of the Dyson V7 you purchase (example: "Dyson V7 Complete", among others). The HEPA unit/component stands out visually at the end of the vacuum.
Are they keeping the v7 or are they only keeping the v10 forward?
A March, 2018 article on ConsumerReports stated "In the fall, the V6 and V8 lines will be discontinued. Two V7 models will remain on shelves, alongside full-priced options from the Dyson Cyclone V10 series, which launched this week."
I don't know how accurate or true this is however.
Amazing review. Very thorough.
Thanks Zaeem
How many minutes on normal mode? How to charge battery?
Our tests showed the V7 Motorhead in Low power mode lasted 23 min 28 seconds, and in Max power mode it lasted 6 min 22 seconds. The vacuum comes with a charging unit and you plug one end into the wall and the other end into the back of the vacuum grip (near the bottom). A full charge on the V7 takes about 3.5 hours. You may want to check out: ua-cam.com/video/sK22uUW_PXM/v-deo.html
Is the lower suction power enough for mild dust around the house? Because in no way I have as much junk like the debris field that max suction test has ... thanks!

Often a key to getting up mere dust with a weak/stick is vac it up while it lies in the surface of carpet instead of walking on it and working it down in, and this saves wear on your carpet too. So, the convenience of a cordless stick vac can help there but only if it results in you using it more often.
Hi, I have Dyson V7 handheld vaccum, can I use the soft roller tool? Or is there a suction difference between the V7 stick and V7 handheld
We were able to run the soft roller cleaner head (from our V8 Absolute stick vac) on our V7 Trigger handheld vacuum. As far as I know the V7 handheld and the V7 stick vacuum would have the same suction power figures.
Great review, very informative.
Damn I was almost kicking myself for not getting the soft roller blade attachment with my V7 but then remembered I never let my floor get that dirty in the first place! 🤔
Also, how is the vaccum doing with hair? I mean long woman hair...does it clog the motorhead? Thanks
Great question, I’m always cleaning my fiancées hair off the brush. It caused major damage to my Vax as it ended up wrapped in the brush bar bearings
Any and every rotating brush cleaner will wrap the hair around it and need cleaned out manually. Scissors are easier, sneak up on her when she is asleep.
My girlfriend's original V6 lasted much longer than 16 minutes on hard floors with the spiral head.
I think you are wrong. Listening to that loud whining makes 5 minutes seem like an eternity.
I'm guessing this has something to do with them getting their product into Walmarts
I just bought a V7 Absolute, love the power and suckshun but battery only lasted 10 minutes. Not happy...
Wish I saw this video before I bought the v7 Absolute..
Thanks, watched the first video where a comment said to watch at 1.25x speed which works very well for this video as well.
Thank you so much!! This video has helped me make my decision 🤩
Very helpful videos, thanks!
Very helpful, thanks!
I used this the other day. I was shocked at how bad it was. Had to use max power to get any decent suction. Lasted about ten minutes at the most. Terrible
A very nice video. Thumbs up
Unintentional ASMR!!
Excellent review. Thank you!
Hey Juliane. Glad you liked it!
Does this channel cover any carpet cleaning machines?
Hi Viq,
I haven't done any carpet cleaning video reviews to date.
I have the V6 and I love it.
Why you love it , the battery just last for one room🤔
It is always high power when it's Tim the toolman Taylor
Just got the V6 and probably going to take it back, 3 hrs to fully charge gets you 16 minutes yeah I'm good so it will take all day to clean my floors
I bought one on clearance for 200 bucks. Id recommend them at that price. I certainly wouldn't have payed 400-500 bucks for it tho.
IM TOTAL CLEANONG ADDICT...ID NEVER HOOVER UP TOBTJE EDGES ONCASE CHIP THE PAINT OFF...I ALWAYS BEDN DOWN AND USE THE CREVICE TOOL TO DO TJE EDGES..
Dyson don't want you changing the battery I think so you buy a new vac instead
Thank u I nearly bought it
Wow. Glad i came here. For the prices these dysons are disappointing.
Lol I love this guy so much 😂
They don’t allow the battery to swap because that would allow you to avoid buying a more expensive model if you want more run time. Also enforces planned obsolescence
thank you!
wow there IS a difference! between two rollers!
can the v7 be used on tile floor?
Yes it can. The soft roller cleaner head that comes with the V7 Absolute is best for bare floors (the Absolute comes with 2 cleaner heads - direct drive and soft roller). However if you only have the direct drive cleaner head (comes with the Motorhead and Animal) you can still use it on bare surfaces - it just won't pick up as well as the soft roller cleaner head.
thank you so much!

Brilliant video better than WHICH
it doesent come with fluffy because it is designed for houses with mostly carpet
Great video, I have used DC62 and Battery is dead, Replace Battery is CAD 145, Dyson offer me to get V7 motorhead head with 20% off. I should not get V7. Thanks
It seems like a good vacuum but the high pitched sound of the motor irritate me.
Plastic product with 6 minutes runtime (low does not count, anyone could just run their product slower) is worth $80. People get mesmerized by the artistic robot-tron look then forget that nobody will think they are from the future while spotted doing manual labor to clean their floor, lol.
I had my dyson and very satisfying just don’t waste your money on one battery charging happy customer
Just like my car, gotta get the V8 😎
So far so good...
Thanks for info on Dyson vacuum
God bless

I regret buying it. Going back to Orek corded. vacuum,
At 3mn I was like, "oh heck no!" Lol
Vaccuum ASMR
Well, how lovely is he?
I'd buy this just for upstairs and use corded dyson downstairs...
The v10 and 11 will have you covered both up and downstairs
thanks for telling me the true before i waste my money on this overpriced product... is a must removable battery, also should be able to use with a cord when needed.......
I doubt you even own this product. It is not suited at all for vehicle use, too bulky without a flexible hose to get around the vehicle interior.
Why does this dude have 4 different Dyson vacuums to review together? Do you collect vacuums LOL?
Its because they only last 5-7 min 😂😂

V7. Just bought it. Not impressed at all. Charging it for 3 hours for 30 minutes. The bin function is not good. Plus it is not sturdy enough. The head goes in all directions. Just not worth the money. Picks up everything yes but overall not impressed. Loved your review though.
