This is especially valuable to the Dyson uninitiated like me, to whom at first blush the various "V's" and "Motorhead/Animal/Absolute" tags are pretty murky. I get so tired of UA-cam reviews that provide 5 minutes of info jam packed into 15 minutes. You hit the perfect combination of complete and succinct. You're providing a terrific service, sir. Cheers!
Thank you very much for the time and thought you put into these videos! I watched a bunch of them and purchased a V8, your soothing tone is awesome, keep up the great work!
An extremely insightful and concise review. I was looking all over for resources to make a decision between the v7 or v8 and you laid all the facts out beautifully.
Great review I can confirm this … I’m a house cleaner my client has the v7 and I myself for my own home has the v8 … I immediately noticed that my clients Motörhead picks up more .. I couldn’t understand because I had the newer model.. I realized there’s a difference in the head sizes of the vacs .. so I ordered a v7 roller head .. and low and behold that’s the difference
Wish I had watched this review first. I just bought a Dyson V8 Animal to replace my Dyson V7 Motorhead that I bought a few years ago. My husband thought I was nuts...but right away I noticed that the suction was not as good ...particularly on my throw rugs. I will be returning it and replacing it with another V7. Thanks for the video..at least I know I'm not crazy.
I just bought the V7 for my wife for Christmas BEFORE I saw this video and your review confirmed I made the right choice. Dyson is offering the V7 absolute now for a great price. Mine came out at $200 including tax PLUS they offered two choices for an additional attachment package for free. Great job on the review by the way!
Thank you for being one of the most thorough reviewers for residential vacuum cleaners. The other year, bought a subscription to Consumer Reports hoping they would assist selecting a model for purchase. Nothing as thorough as your channel. Eventually googled your website and this channel in a desperate search for accurate information. Thank you again!
Thanks for the great review. I have just bought a V7 Animal and it looks to be the best choice for me having seen your comparisons. I do like a HEPA filter and a bargain!
Your reviews are so honest, through and professionally done that I don’t need to spend hours trawling through videos that don’t come anywhere as close to yours. I’m thinking of getting the V7 and purchasing a compatible soft roller with it. My only concern is about battery life. I’ve seen bad reviews. That’s the only thing holding me back now. God bless you. Keep them videos coming.
I'm thinking there's a reason for your presentation in front of the 2 doors. Now I'm curious what's behind door 1 and door 2. Thanks again for the great review.
This is soooooo helpful! Thank you so much. I was totally frustrated trying to make a decision, and this has given me confidence in my decision. Thank you!!!
I think you will find the V7 carpet head is rated at 35W and the V8 carpet head is rated at 50W, hence why the V8 carpet head will not run on the V7. The Fluffy head is rated at 20W regardless of model, so should be interchangeable between the V7 and V8.
Skip the rest of the reviews on UA-cam. This is the most concerned straight to the point honest feedback and review I saw. Lead me to purchase the v8 cause it was also $100 off
Just got my V7, its fantastic, thank you! Only have a small 1 bedroom flat, mostly carpet with only a little hardfloor in kitchen so I went for the Animal version. I have a cat too so it should be enough to pick up bits of cat litter and food too. Great video!

Many of the promotions of the V7 and V8 do not include the soft roller which you state is the better roller for hardwood floors. What I’m sure many of us would like to know is how well the regular V7 roller does compared to the regular V8 roller. Can you possibly do this test for those of us who won’t have the luxury of having both roller heads? I personally would appreciate knowing if it is worth the extra coin to upgrade to the V8, and if indeed it does a significantly better job. Thank you very much for your excellent reviews.
Regular head doesn't suck up things like cheerios cereal well... (Tiles) They just pile up on the front and you pretty much have to lift your roller and put it on top of them.
99CCFF756e6b6e6f776e6578696199CCFF647072746c646b Does the regular V7 roller clean hardwoods well otherwise, or does it leave some dust behind? Also does it clean as well as the V8, or does the V8 do a better job? I’m from Canada, and we don’t even have an option to get absolute combination any longer which includes the soft roller brush. We can order the soft roller brush directly from Dyson, but for the Dyson V7 it’s almost $170.00 plus taxes. I do have mostly hardwood floors and am hoping that the regular brush will do a good job overall, except for the larger debris you mentioned. Thanks
@@briancwir1036 V7's regular roller will leave some dust behind so you need to vacuum the same area more than once, slowly. It gets the job done, just not as good as the soft roller. I don't have the V8 (only 7 and 10) but according to this video, it looks like it will do worse than the V7 because of its different head design. But if the price of getting the V8 Absolute is cheaper than getting the soft roller+ V7 motorhead, I think getting the V8 Absolute is a better option because the soft roller is really what makes a difference.
These VacuumAdvisor reviews are superb. Seriously, I've never seen better, can't imagine I ever will and I cannot fault them. A couple of additions I would love to see though. 1. An estimate of the relative effort required to push vacuums over carpet. Some vacs permit adjustment of brush height and/or suction power which is effective in reducing effort, but some do not and these often dig in and become very hard to operate on soft carpets. This would be very useful info. 2. I'd very much like to see reviews of the recent Shark cordless duoclean models compared directly with Dyson V7/V8. I can't find info on these and I need to make a purchasing decision soon Many thanks again for a terrifically useful and wonderfully pleasantly presented resource.
I have the v7 and have loved it for years, decided to buy a spare v8 during a recent sale at target, I hate it! It’s not near as powerful suction wise as my v7! You can see/hear and feel a noticeable difference between the two, wish I had just gotten another v7, this one is far inferior to my older model, so disappointed! Wish I had seen this sooner!
What a great video. Really answered my questions better than any other source really. I like your methodology (triple testing and variable switching). You have reassured me that the v7 is great for me!

Well this video is good to know, but I thought Dyson said they are discontinuing the V8 because they have the V10, and it looks like the V7 is the replacement for it.
I just got the V7 Allergy or V7 Hepa as some call it after sending back the V7 motorhead origin because it didn't have a hepa filter. Why would Dyson even sell any vacuum without a hepa filter, I have no idea. Anyway, I got a non-Dyson 4000 mAh battery which runs longer than the original V7 2100 mAh battery. Also got the mini motorized tool (the newest 30W one, not the 20W that comes with V7 animal), stubborn brush tool, soft dusting brush tool, and the flexi crevice tool. The rigid crevice tool and combination tool came with V7 hepa. Dyson also sent me three tools for free which included the up top tool, extension hose, and the mattress tool.
I've read many reviews of the 4000 mAh battery, i'm not sure if I should buy it or not. Some people say the run time is about the same as Dyson's battery...
I have a V7, have had for 1 year. It works very well on carpet, not so good on hard floors. Run time is about 5 to 10 minutes only, not really worth the money.

I’d say neither. I’ve had several Dyson vacuums, and currently own the V7 and absolutely say I hate it. I should’ve researched it a little bit more before buying it. The thing I hate the most is the fact that it last only about 20 minutes before it has to be recharged and you can’t use it while it’s plugged in. The other issue with it is the fact that sometimes the roller on it won’t spin and if you put any of the attachments against a surface it stops. I also have the DC37 and the roller quit working. After a while it got difficult to find the replacement part and now there is no way I’m paying $100 plus for another part. I think that’s why I bought the V7. My next purchase is going to be a Shark.
Hey Daniel. I went back to my raw test video files where I also highlight in audio everything I am doing so things don't get things mixed up. Guess what? I mixed things up. They all look pretty much the same and pickup is all over 99%. Fortunately the pickup percentage data in the video is all correct - I keep that in spreadsheets so I have a harder time mixing that up. That's a pretty astute catch btw.
