To find an jailbroken iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0.1 that seemingly was lost in early 2012... I don't know what the odds were, but this was pretty lucky. I might keep trying to track down the original owner, maybe a follow-up video too? Also, hey, new merch! wow cool www.91tech.ca/
My guess for the home button is it was replaced because the home button got loose and didn’t stay in the same angle. My iPod touch 6th and 7th generation both have the same problem, but those weren’t built at the same time, but that’s my guess.
@@91Tech True, and Apple also seemed to use a lower quality adhesive on the non-fingerprint home buttons a few years after the phone released. My only other guess is the owner didn’t like the design lol.
@@REKAInteresting. Apple’s builds went from low quality basic builds that budget products have to super high amounts of adhesive and proprietary parts.
I think it was lost, but returned to Edmond broken. For what ever reason Edmond never repaired it, but took his sim and threw it in a draw for 10 years. After finding it 10 years later, knowing it’s dead and likely not having a 30-pin to hand, he decided to recycle it safely and securely through his local electronics recycler.
I've still got my iPhone 5 on iOS 7.0.4, I still keep it around as a tertiary device, did a restoration on it with a new housing and battery, now looks like it did in 2013, I love videos about old iOS products on old iOS versions, it brings back memories :D
It's really not that odd to find this in a recycle bin. Back in the day when iPhones were still a relatively new thing, myself and most people I knew simply dropped thier old phones into a bin at the entrance of Best Buy or Staples for recycling. It wasn't like it is today where people turn around and sell them for ridiculous amounts of money on eBay.

Oh, that's nostalgic, I fell like that was the golden age of iPhones and jailbreak, moved to android around that time but I feel like jailbreaking is no longer much of a thing, which is sad, iPhones are awesome hardware but I can't comply with apple not giving me full power over the device.
It’s weird how the iPhone 5 gets most of the nostalgia attention now, while the 4S was the last to have the original 3.5 inch screen size, the old UA-cam app and Google apps built in, and the 30 pin connector
@@chl_ca The last iPhone with a skeumorphic UI was the 5, because it came with ios 6.0, but yeah the 4 got until ios 7 and 4s got until ios 9. So they also lost the skeumorphic UI

The apple product that I still have that's like a time capsule is a 1st generation ipod touch with iphone OS 1.1.5. A very early version of iOS that seems to be from mid 2008 before iPhone OS 2 came out. Using it today in 2021, it feels extremely basic and limited. It's still good for offline tasks like listening to downloaded music and videos, but for internet, iPhone OS 1 is pretty useless. Other than that, I have the 2nd gen iPod touch on iOS 4.2.1, iPhone 4s on iOS 9.3.5, and then oldest is a 5th gen iPod classic from 2005.
My first iPhone was an iPhone 3G the year it came out and was jailbroken AF. I was the coolest kid in school. I still have my jailbroken iPhone 4 in my electronic bin “just in case” even if I also have a spare iPhone 6, 6S and an SE “just in case” as well… lmao
I’ll be real, I got an iPad 2 as untested on eBay and a very similar string of events followed, except I ended up landing on iOS 4.3.1! Same thing where it was updated, at most, once. It’s in pretty good shape too, needed a bit of work to make the volume up button work but otherwise is flawless. Also it’s a 64GB CDMA iPad 2 for C$30 so that was already good value, iOS 4 was kinda the cherry on top. Sadly it isn’t jailbroken, but it turns out no jailbreak exists for iOS 4 (minus 4.3.3 specifically for some reason) on A5, even to this day.
@@emilsecker7881 funny because that's exactly how it works lol i never understood the void warranty claim because nowadays atleast it's easy to unjailbreak your phone and they won't know it was even tampered with

How come when showing the phone, you keep the camera pointed at the phone at an angle? It makes it so one part of the phone is always out of focus, and that the content we'd want to see about the phone is always partially blurred. Anyone watching likely knows what the side of an iPhone 4s looks like, but the content we'd want to see in full (a front view of the display+software modifications and a full view of the damage done to the inside of the phone) is always blurred. It would make sense to do that if you've already shown it once, and are just using that clip as a transition, but having it as the only shots just... makes things hard to see without being infuriated by blur.
