I think that Jobs might have eventually caved on adding more sizes to the iPhones, but he'd find the current lineup way to complex and confusing for their customers. What is "Pro" about the iPhone 12 Pro? Why have a 12 and a 12 Pro when the only difference is 1 camera lense? And why have an SE and a Mini when the 2 could be combined to form one smaller AND cheaper iPhone? The same is true of the iPad lineup IMO. I absolutely agree! There is nothing wrong with the new iPhones, but the lineup is too complex! And Apple starts working on phones years before release, so I think a part of the design, and the vision for the iPhone 6 came from Jobs!

I feel like Tim Cook had mostly been doing the exact seem thing, but people romanticize Steve Jobs so much and “the reality distortion field”, they act like Cook is so much worse. The truth is, the vast majority of the complaints about Apple now are the exact same ones people had about Jobs. Anti-competitive, pointlessly getting rid of popular ports, overpriced, greedy behavior, some failed products (MobileMe anyone?) etc. Heck, if you look back at tech journalism from 2013, a lot of people were already getting sick of iOS 6 because the feature gap between it and Android Jelly Bean was ridiculous by that point, and it really couldn’t do a lot of relatively simple things, like downloading things in the background (if you tried to download a comic from the Marvel app for instance, you legit had to sit there and couldn’t leave the app). I’m saying this as someone who admires Steve Jobs and the older iOS versions, but nostalgia can really be a dangerous drug.
The reason why people feel/felt nostalgic is because prior to iPhone X and now 12, there were barely any significant changes to the iPhone. I believe that one of the last things that Steve Jobs said to Tim Cook was to not ask what Steve would have done but for Tim to do what he felt was right and what was necessary. As much as I miss my iPhone 4, the iPhone 5 wasn't enough to prevent me from switching to a Samsung Galaxy S4. The competition with Android was and is still fierce. And Android phones, most notably Samsung phones where coning out with phones that were rivaling the iPhone. So Tim Cook and Apple had to adapt to the changes in consumer tastes, e.g. larger screens and better cameras. Some of the things that Tim did Steve would have probably done as well.
i-phones in the Steve Jobs era were literally the best performing phones while having a design language that made android phones look cheap in comparison but now the tables are turned with android phones having far better displays and built quality while apple is still stuck to Notches that most of the android companies left in 2019. Apple still has better processors but apart from that it looks incredibly dated while compared to android
IPhones actually had worse processors than high-end Android phones back in the Jobs era. It's really in the last few years that they've pulled way ahead of what Qualcomm is doing.
@Tony They may be the fastest performing, but they certainly don't feel like it when their displays top out at 60hz. Whenever I touch my parents' iPhone after using my Note 20 Ultra, it feels sluggish.
As someone who had the opportunity to use an apple Product during the Jobs Era I can tell you Android was way behind on their phones nowadays Android phones are better than the iPhone believe me iOS feels dated now they need to change it once again also the battery life is important since iPhones tend to die fast and take a long ass time to fucken charge that's why I'll never go back unless they make their phones USB C

I bought the iPhone 13 Pro a couple of weeks ago after using the iPhone 10 since release day. I think upgrading every 3 generations is the best way to go, wow what an upgrade.
I personally think the iPhone 5s was the best phone they ever made. I had the 5s for 3 years. It took me months to get use to the iPhone 6s size. I had a iPhone 6s for almost 3 years then finally bought a SE2 for the last 6 months and I love it.
Totally agreed. I was one of those that loved the design of iPhone 4 and at first thought yeah that would be kinda cool bringing it to the 12... But it didn't work out that way. Very uncomfortable imo, Can leave marks on your hand if you hold it long enough with overlapping fingers/thumb, And looks wise it doesn't look all that nice the way the iPhone 4 did back in the day. The 11 pro is just a perfect design.. My current favourite iPhone.. And still is!
@Hideika lol you mad? I owned a iPhone 3GS,4,6 plus,7,x,11 pro and 12 pro. The rounded corners on the device makes it easier to hold and more comfortable. I have 2 cases for my 12 pro. The Apple leather case and a Casetify case that actually is rounded which I do prefer. But the leather case is mag safe and I use a MagSafe PopSocket so I use both
@Hideika salty much ? I’ve also owned a Samsung Galaxy S2 skyrocket, S3,S4, note 3, note 4, Nexus 5, S8, Note 8 and the first pixel phone soooo far from a fanboy.
Plot twist: its was the tenth year anniversary of the iPhone 4 and that phone had a glass back with flat sides And iPhone 12 has the same build as the 4
I'm still rocking my iPhone SE in Space Grey and love it. Perfect size. I admit some games aren't really that great since the buttons ingame are made for larger displays. But I personally don't mind since everything else is more comfortable and natural on the SE. I can just use my tablet when I want to play games.
I believe apart from ditching skeumorphism the 2nd thing that marks end of jobs era with iPhones is protruding camera in iPhone 6 onwards. he would've never allowed that
As photo quality became more and more important for mobile phones, as consumers began using their phones more and digital cameras less, phones needed bigger and bigger cameras. The only way to put bigger cameras in a phone without them protruding is to make the whole phone thicker (and heavier) so that the cameras don’t protrude. Would iPhone customers have been content to stick with thicker, heavier phones when Android manufacturers like Samsung started boasting that their flagship phones were thinner than flagship iPhones? Many reviewers would have stressed the ‘cult of thin’ and said the iPhone was outdated.
This is like an iPhone mini documentary. Love this. Although, I do believe in my personal opinion that the 7 is the last “true”’ iPhone, I get everything that’s being said here. Seriously, this was an awesome watch.
If the iPhone 5 is the last true iPhone, does that mean the iPad 4 is the last true iPad? The similarities are: • Released in 2012 • First of their line to use Lightning port • Last of their line to use 32-bit processors • Uses the classic home button • Retina display • No fingerprint sensor
Steve Jobs was definitely involved with the development of IOS 7. Not sure why people think otherwise. It literally came out alongside the iPhone 5, which everyone acknowledges he helped create. He had his hand in both before passing. People seem to think overall that Jobs didn’t make controversial decisions and everyone loved everything he did. While in reality he made more polarizing decisions than Cook ever has. And not always in a good way.
Jobs would have approached the notch and camera bump differently... he would have forced lens tech to advance within apple's space allowances. The notch --he would have kept the bezels to hide it and woven it into the design so that it would be perfectly symmetrical. He also would have killed the audio jack sooner and probably already removed the lightning port as well. The iPhone 5 will always be my favorite phone model, (along with the SE 1 lol). I got the 13 pro now and the thing is always sticking out of my pocket. I would have gotten the 13 Mini but I wanted the 120hz display...
I’m not mad about larger phones because we rely on them so much more now, especially for productivity and media consumption. I’m disgusted with how the software reacts to the way larger devices - if doesn’t. You HAVE TO constantly reach to the 3% most inconvenient and hardest reaching areas of the phone for 65% of the most common needs (literally just going back, notifications, control centers and the media controls within it, safari search bar - I could go on!). Beyond that, it shouldn’t be as heavy as it is. We rest the entire thing on our pinkies like damn Apple.
Always sorta despised the look and feel of the 6-10. Never really for for me, the 10 especially feels cheap for some reason...4-5s definitely have the best feel and look. The squared off look just feels best for some reason.
That’s why I love the 12, because it’s a better version of the 4-5. I waited a long time to upgrade because I didn’t like the models for a few years either, but the newest ones are fantastic.
@@grkb I don't care if a person doesn't care about his family, in fact these are his personal affairs, I care about the great inventions he presented to people that changed our lives forever, and then other companies imitated Apple products.
I had a white iPhone 5, and I LOVED the sleek modern design of it. It's one of my favorite iPhones. I had an iPhone 6S for awhile, and I've had an iPhone X since it came out in 2017. I have really enjoyed using my X for the last four years despite it's fairly weak battery performance... it has long struggled to make it through a day when I can't charge it. It has a very nice design, a good camera, and a beautiful OLED display - and it still performs very well. I have a Sierra Blue iPhone 13 Pro on order, coming in November. I really like the return (since the iPhone 12) to the metal straight-sided design of the iPhone 5. The 13 Pro is so pretty, I will be getting a thin clear case for it, so it will be visible but protected.
Its the last in the sense that it was made by Steve. Also the fact that he wanted an EASY ONE HAND USE phone. Thats why screens were so small for so long. After he passed the 6 came out right? And they did whatever they wanted to. He wanted one hand, thumb moves from one corner to the other diagonally. Instead we got these 6-7in giant phablets. I always thought 5in was the max and best suited, but everyone pushed even beyond that.
I recently upgraded from a 1st gen SE to a 3 week old 12, unfortunately not the mini, however battery life is just amazing, and the small trick with beeing able to drop down the top half of your home screen for 1 hand useage is just simply amazing! Yes, Apples functions are behind android, however, things just… work on the iphone. I will still use my SE as a backup phone just in case, but overall, im impressed!
I much preferred the old realistic looking icons, actually. And I still think the 5 series was the perfect form factor. And that's coming from someone who watches a ton of mobile video.
I’m sure Jobs would have eventually added some larger phones, but would have also kept the smaller size of the iPhone 5 around. I have an iPhone 8, which isn’t big by today’s standards, but I really miss the size of the iPhone 4/5
Personally, I consider the iPhone 6 through the 11 the same design language. Yes you have the new full screen display, but the frame and design was still too similar to the iPhone 6 with the same rounded edges and camera bump. Now the iPhone 12, that's a new design language for sure
Starting with the Note 10, Samsung has also been going through a similar shift. The cameras got moved to a corner and the shape of the back panel is no longer a double saddle atarting with S22
Any iPhone Steve Jobs, had a hand in before his death is the real iPhone. Seen as it is 10 years since his passing, Steve Jobs estate should now open up his personal archives to show what thinking on designs and ideas.
I loved that phone. I only got into iPhone because my best friend gave me his old iPhone 4. I used to roll with Nextel. 😂 I liked the simplicity of the 4 and upgraded to the 5 when it rolled out. However the 6S has been my favorite. I liked it so much that I used it from the day it debuted in 2015 until now towards the end of 2022. I finally upgraded and went with the 14 Pro. 😂
Man, the design improvement was from the sharp aquos and mi mix 1. These are the legends in forward thinking designs. And that mix 1 beats the iPhone 4 design, by a long shot. The iPhone 4's design became outdated in 5 years and its build was matched. The mix 1, 5 years later not only still beats flagships and matches their build, its design is so iconic it still turns heads and still looks modern. You go on the streets with a iphone 10 and no one's really gonna bat a eye. You do the same with the mix 1 and everyone will ask you what phone that is. That right there is innovative design. That is what apple has never been able to pull off. The iPhone 5's design just examplefied some of apple's shortcomings. Its outdated design was apparent. The 5s helped to fix many issues but design and battery life weren't one of them.
What is the screen size of your iPad Pro? If not 12.9", never ever watch 4K UA-cam video on this iPad! 4K is Ultra HD (2160p). Decreasing that resolution to Quad HD (1440p) on an iPad unless it has a 12.9" Retina display will not affect displayed picture but will save traffic.
I suppose in a way, the 5C hearkened back to the 3G/3GS design, insofar as it had a plastic shell that went around the whole back and sides of the phone. So not totally out of left field or anything.
I personally think the iPhone 4 with iOS 4 was the best because I like the design of the iPhone 4 Verizon and I miss the old iOS 4 icons. I have one on iOS 4.2.6 in my rare iPhone collection and is fun to play around with sometimes even though is nearly unusable now.
He’d probably be pretty happy and excited as we are about the new phones Mac books iMacs and the software they are all pretty amazing specially on the newest versions brought back what the ppl asked for and jus improved in many satisfying ways
Technicallyy is the iPhone 4 Because Steve Jobs had a size standard, and the iPhone 5 (even if today is too small) but back then it grew the size that job stablished as perfect iPhone 6, 7, 8, X, and 11 on the other hand, grew so much and their design looked as normal androids And don't let me start with the design of iOS 7 and next ones... Too simple, too minimalistic. Previous iOS design were so recognisable and distinctive
7:54 And the 8 is the *best* version of the old iPhone design. With the stunning look, the 8 is truly something to remember and it's really forgotten, and was overshadowed by the iPhone X. The fastest Touch ID an iphone can have, stunning back glass, great camera, overall great design. As I said before, it's the best design of the old iphone look.
There was a time in which the IPhone was the best and most astonishing product Apple had to offer. In 2021 that isn’t the case anymore. Don’t get me wrong, iPhones are still great but things like the advancements the made in terms of the iPad or the HomePod or Gadgets like the AirPods are the reasons why I still admire Apple to this day.
i think that the 4 is peak iPhone in terms of design. i feel that there are still some things that apple could adopt from the Steve jobs era. For starters the iPhone 4 had a camera flush with the back glass where modern iPhone (from the 6 onwards) is starting to look ridiculous, the lack of a headphone jack, and the use of glossy stainless steel as opposed to the brushed stainless steel. i would rather have a thicker iphone with a camera that sits flush with the back with greatly improved battery life and the headphone jack returning. I am starting to really not like how apple keeps increasing the size of the camera bump. Don't get me wrong, the 5 is a good design but i feel the 4 being more ahead of its time and more parts of the 4 have aged better.
The iPhone 5 was probably the best iPhone Apple ever made in my opinion and after that they kinda went to crap I had the iPhone 5C after my iPhone 5 started getting slow and outdated and that thing was crap I honestly wish I kept my iPhone 5 instead of upgrading to the iPhone 5C so then I switched to Android mostly Samsung Phone's or Motorola Phone's until the Google Pixel came out and now that's what I currently have and I couldn't be happier with Google Pixel.
@@91Tech I think iphone design lost it's way after the 5. I have a 5S in my collection and often pick it up just to admire the looks and feel of it, and wish it was still useable as a main device today.
My first IPhone was a 5 and it was by far my favorite IPhone. I did unfortunately I got very robbed. When I first got my iPhone 5 it was on IOS 6 out of the box, it probably got to experience this for all of 4 hours before my phone updated to iOS 7. I got the phone several years after it had originally been released. Now I have had an iPhone 12 Pro Max for going on 4 years now. It’s by far my second favorite iPhone. I love how we now can use widgets and other fun aspects. My iPhone 7 was an absolute disappointment and by far my least favorite phone. It over heated and constantly wouldn’t work right.
For Me Iphone 5s was the last truly One of a Kind phone....and The only Iphone i still want to use to this day.(keep it as a....collection khek) No newer models excite me the way 5s did..

So Tim Cook and Apple had to adapt to the changes in consumer tastes, e.g. larger screens and better cameras. Some of the things that Tim did Steve would have probably done as well.
Bulllshit
For me the iPhone X was the last iPhone with aesthetically pleasing design.
Highly Agreed 💯
R.I.P Steve jobs 1955 to 2011
I have an iPhone 3GS with iOS 6 and I also miss the skeuomorphic design.
I have found myself asking this question over and over as the years have come and gone since 2011. Where would we be if Steve was still with us?
The production levels on this channel 🤯
i-phones in the Steve Jobs era were literally the best performing phones while having a design language that made android phones look cheap in comparison but now the tables are turned with android phones having far better displays and built quality while apple is still stuck to Notches that most of the android companies left in 2019. Apple still has better processors but apart from that it looks incredibly dated while compared to android
@Rodneytheproducer Apple is still king in the mobile chips department atleast but yeah they are lacking behind in alot of other key areas
@Rodneytheproducer an unfortunate loss but a fortunate gain
I wonder what the apple economy would be like if Steve Jobs was still around
Only children and people that do basic stuff would have androids.
Phones would still be small. 😀. I kid… I think.
@@Keremsalep Basic...waw.
@@Keremsalep So like, what would an iPhone user would do? Just curious.
@@sid1234213Sorry, i might have gotten you on wrong thoughts. Apple users would be prople, that work at banks or important jobs or people that need a stable phone.
In Retrospect you’ve made a very great review over the generations of apple products you’ve kept it very formal and informative over the flaws and achievements of his work and apple as a whole, great job.
I think Jobs started working on the iPhone 6! He didn’t finish it, but I think the vision for the phone came from him!
The design also applies to iPhone SE 2016. Its a very good phone..only disadvantage is the battery.
Pay 50 and Apple will replace the battery
I bought the iPhone 13 Pro a couple of weeks ago after using the iPhone 10 since release day. I think upgrading every 3 generations is the best way to go, wow what an upgrade.
4S/5/5S/SE (2016) are the best Iphones. Glad they brought back that design with 12 line up
I personally think the iPhone 5s was the best phone they ever made. I had the 5s for 3 years. It took me months to get use to the iPhone 6s size. I had a iPhone 6s for almost 3 years then finally bought a SE2 for the last 6 months and I love it.
Beautiful shot at 17:33. I love your camera work.
Me and you are almost the exact same age, I was born in July 2000. Guess that's why we have so much in common when it comes to tech
I prefer the 11 pro over the 12 pro. The squares edges on a 6.1 inch device isn’t comfortable
@Hideika do you have this phone ???
@@elliekim6666 "i am not a nerd because i own old like 10 samsung/google phones" holy crap do you frequently break your screens?
Plot twist: its was the tenth year anniversary of the iPhone 4 and that phone had a glass back with flat sides
And iPhone 12 has the same build as the 4
Yep he mentioned that in the vid at least twice.
Watching this video in 2022 using an iPhone 5. Love your insights!
iPhone 4s was unveiled just before Steve's death. He held on to that
yeaaa i had a 4s too in 2010
i had to trade it in for a 5s tho
@@timonsolus back in iPhone 6 6s 7 and 8 times was pure laziness.
iPhone 5 def had the best external design. Those chamfered edges!
I'm honestly ready for a completely new form factor beyond smartphones. Only so much you can do with glass rectangles
I remember watching soldierknowsbest back then and how he had rumors of a bigger iphones as the iOS6 beta had an additional app row.
This is like an iPhone mini documentary. Love this. Although, I do believe in my personal opinion that the 7 is the last “true”’ iPhone, I get everything that’s being said here. Seriously, this was an awesome watch.
I agree. The 7 was the last real iPhone. Maybe the 8 as well.
@@tobias9031 why ?
Digging those freshly baked lofi beats on the background
If the iPhone 5 is the last true iPhone, does that mean the iPad 4 is the last true iPad? The similarities are:
• Released in 2012
• First of their line to use Lightning port
• Last of their line to use 32-bit processors
• Uses the classic home button
• Retina display
• No fingerprint sensor
Then the 2012 Macs are the last true Macs.

And not always in a good way.
the black iphone 5 will always be my favourite iphone
Good thing they brought it back with the iPhone 12 series, Classic!
iPhone 4, 5S, 8 Plus, and X designs, I have a soft spot for
Used to watch this channel a lot. Good to be back
With Jobs would be still have iPhones with 4 inches screen and less variety.
but it would be interesting to see both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook working together on all the iPhone models, good hardware good software etc etc. :)
If Steve were alive today, I’d hope he would have enough brains to realize an iPhone 4-sized device with a full screen display would look sick.
iPhone 12 mini is damn close, hardly taller than the 5 and almost all screen. the 13 mini will shrink the notch.
Am i the only one that really enjoyed the ios 10 control center especially considering it lasted only one software update
I miss this iPhone ! That was my first iPhone ever !
Really missed this channel…Greetings from Ghana
Always sorta despised the look and feel of the 6-10. Never really for for me, the 10 especially feels cheap for some reason...4-5s definitely have the best feel and look. The squared off look just feels best for some reason.
That’s why I love the 12, because it’s a better version of the 4-5. I waited a long time to upgrade because I didn’t like the models for a few years either, but the newest ones are fantastic.
It would be nice if flagships had one and two handed versions. I bought an iPhone SE 2016 last year and I'm thinking of going for a 12 Mini or SE 3
I’m so glad I got my iPhone mini it’s brings me back to the iPhone 5. It’s so much easier to hold.

I don't care if a person doesn't care about his family, in fact these are his personal affairs, I care about the great inventions he presented to people that changed our lives forever, and then other companies imitated Apple products.

The iphone 5 was my favorite size of iphone. Even my 12 mini is bigger that my old 5s.
Aesthetically the 5 is right behind the 4 (the best). A phone like the 4 with todays displays, processors, camera etc. and the 5 size would be perfect
Mini ?
@@arioktaiswara1803 closest thing but no
I recently upgraded from a 1st gen SE to a 3 week old 12, unfortunately not the mini, however battery life is just amazing, and the small trick with beeing able to drop down the top half of your home screen for 1 hand useage is just simply amazing!
Very well done video. Good work dude!
I’m sure Jobs would have eventually added some larger phones, but would have also kept the smaller size of the iPhone 5 around. I have an iPhone 8, which isn’t big by today’s standards, but I really miss the size of the iPhone 4/5
I remember updating my iPhone 4 to iOS6 back in the day and looking everywhere on the phone trying to find UA-cam
God, I love all the retro stuff in the backdrops!
Personally, I consider the iPhone 6 through the 11 the same design language. Yes you have the new full screen display, but the frame and design was still too similar to the iPhone 6 with the same rounded edges and camera bump. Now the iPhone 12, that's a new design language for sure
still using a 32 gb black first gen se today, the best 4 inch phone ever.
Watching this on true SE :))
Great insight video, Josh. Also nice: I can watch your videos in 4K on my new iPad Pro, lovely 😊
@@AppleFan-md9sp thanks for the advice. I do have an 11 inch iPad Pro so I’ll take it in consideration.
I suppose in a way, the 5C hearkened back to the 3G/3GS design, insofar as it had a plastic shell that went around the whole back and sides of the phone. So not totally out of left field or anything.
Despite price, I thought the 5C were really cool.
They just never upgraded it.
@@CrazyKingJammy I agree, and it is odd that they pretty much dropped the idea of the "budget" iPhone.
@@mista414 i mean, the SE became the budget.
But the plastic 5C got a bad rep and no second chance. I think if the price is right, the feel is real.
One Steve Jobs design is still around: the iPod touch 7th gen is very similar to the 5th gen that he designed.
He’d probably be pretty happy and excited as we are about the new phones Mac books iMacs and the software they are all pretty amazing specially on the newest versions brought back what the ppl asked for and jus improved in many satisfying ways
Technicallyy is the iPhone 4
Because Steve Jobs had a size standard, and the iPhone 5 (even if today is too small) but back then it grew the size that job stablished as perfect
iPhone 6, 7, 8, X, and 11 on the other hand, grew so much and their design looked as normal androids
And don't let me start with the design of iOS 7 and next ones...
Great content Josh.
:) thanks Gary!
