I always enjoy these videos. These are a lot of fun. Shoutout to Glimpse the Unthinkable, the milling monster originally play-tested as a common, then bumped to rare after fear that it would warp the limited format.
These are so well done. I freaking love them. As a casual magic player myself, these are really really entertaining and very informative. Thank you for these! Keep up the great work! :)
MrdevinGaming There are two UA-cam Magic historians right now. (Well, three, if you count Wedge, who focuses on story.) I'd be happy to collaborate, though.
Awesome job Evan! Everyone needs to contribute at least $1 to Evan, so he can continue making these great stories. WTC should be sponsoring this, as he is giving new players the entire back story. Everyone contribute!
Ravnica was my first set going into Magic The Gathering. I've been waiting for this episode from the beginning! I can't wait for Guildpact!! IZZET LEAGUE!!!
Yeah I felt like Kamigawa had a lot of potential in that regard, but the set itself was such a letdown... My buddy still uses a friggen Top deck when he really wants to infuriate me, which doesn't help my appreciation of it. I have always been a big fan of Japanese war culture so I was really excited for the Kamigawa block, but by the time Saviors was out it was clear that the set would never be considered a classic one. Just too weak. So many of the cards were useless. Champions was a decent set, but the other two blew, and tournaments took SOOOO long simply because of the Top. Following Mirrodin, which played fast, it seemed even slower. I think it will be quite some time before he gets to Kamigawa, although he did already do Homelands...
I'm new to Magic and even so, the Ravnica block is by far my favorite! I really do hope they re-visit Ravnica again. From what I've seen, Ravnica has received so much love from MTG players. I'm sure there wouldn't be any harm in adding to it. I would very much enjoy more Selesnya cards!
I'd usually root for the azorius, but lately (mostly thanks to treasure cruise) i've been rooting for the izzet guild. U/R/x tempo is just the thing to do in every format save vintage.
In regards to REMAND, it did not immediately become a staple. Not even close. I lived in Northern California and played in the stores where LSV and Paul Cheon were regulars and even after Dissension was released, no one cared about remand. Spell Snare was hotter back then. It wasn't until Time Spiral came out with Mystical Teaching and the aptly named Teaching Control deck that anyone wanted a copy of remand. Our store, for example had a 9 page binder with at least 5 pockets loaded with remands at 50 cents each and no one wanted them. Suddenly the deck came out and the card shot up to about $5 each. It took people a year to figure out how good the card was.
I can confirm that. I remember considering to buy a playset for casual for one or two bucks, but decided against it. A pretty cringeworthy decision in hindsight, consdering I bought various other playsets for the same money that you'd get these days for a few cents, lol.
The Ravnica Block was very close to perfect, proably the closest they ever come to and will. Well radiance was a poor machanic, i mean, I love the old Boros classics, but they should have had something like the newer battalion or battle cry back then. And Haunt was great, but had left so much design space open,I missed some effects that trigger when haunted creature attack or blocks for example. But Hey, that all I can complain about, so it must be a great set.
Mostly due to both mechanics that didn't work outside of the block (Arcane, Soulshift, Offering) and horribly underpowered cards (Call For Blood, Joyous Respite, Numai Outcast, etc.) Basically, for every Sensei's Divining Top, we got a Takeno's Cavalry.
This was the first and ONLY Block i have ever collected EVERY card from. i had 3 binders (one for each set in the block) numbered with one of every card. I also had a foil of almost every card except for some of the harder to find ones (IE- Chord of calling and such). I miss those binders. sold them because i lost my job... :(
Forgotten Lore is one of the coolest series ever. Please never stop making them.
I always enjoy these videos. These are a lot of fun.

Evan! You're the man. Thanks for doing this.I love this game, the Magic show, and my wife for letting me spend some money on it!
These are so well done. I freaking love them. As a casual magic player myself, these are really really entertaining and very informative. Thank you for these! Keep up the great work! :)
I love this series. If I had money to spare I would be throwing it at your Patreon.
Your avatar makes me read your comment in a sarcastic tone.
Very Nice Job Mr. Erwin. Fun to watch.
couldnt u do samthing similar for ur channel?
MrdevinGaming There are two UA-cam Magic historians right now. (Well, three, if you count Wedge, who focuses on story.) I'd be happy to collaborate, though.
MrdevinGaming He cant because he requires more attention.
I have such fond memories of this set. I cried at points of this; thanks for your synopsis, Evan.
Yay Ravnica! Great video as always Evan. This episode had very good pacing, and covered a lot while still being concise. Great work!
What a great episode! Everyone of these released I learn something very interesting. I look forward to the next one.
Awesome job Evan! Everyone needs to contribute at least $1 to Evan, so he can continue making these great stories. WTC should be sponsoring this, as he is giving new players the entire back story. Everyone contribute!
Love this series. I couldn't be more excited every time a new one is available. Great job Evan!
I don't play magic, but Ravnica is a new campaign setting for D&D and my players are eager! Thank You.

These videos are so fascinating and so well made. Keep them coming!
One of the best shows on UA-cam :)
Ravnica was my first set going into Magic The Gathering. I've been waiting for this episode from the beginning! I can't wait for Guildpact!! IZZET LEAGUE!!!
I hope you visit kamigawa someday. Would really like to know the backstory of that set
Following Mirrodin, which played fast, it seemed even slower. I think it will be quite some time before he gets to Kamigawa, although he did already do Homelands...
I hope we revisit Kamigawa
I would love to see that. As bad as Kamigawa was as a set the flavor and lore behind it was awesome.
Thecyclongamer
said no planeswalker ever.
Crimson Vulpes A version of Kamigawa that doesnt suck... like Khans power level Kamigawa
I love these so much! I look forward to more! Thank you so much for doing them!
This is the most important youtube series that has ever been made
All hail that girl at 18:16 with the Simic Combine guild symbol. CHEERS TO THE BEST GUILD!!!

Really enjoy these vids! I always have loved the lore and wish they still made the books with fatpacks :(
I can't believe I just found this series... tonight is going to be incredible.
After ravnica block(s)? Can you do the Lorwyn blocks please?
Awesome once again. I wish I could pay you to do more of these and faster.
Daaaaamn, you narrate like a pro
I love these forgotten lore.
cant wait for the next one also you should make a documentary about magic
I'm new to Magic and even so, the Ravnica block is by far my favorite! I really do hope they re-visit Ravnica again. From what I've seen, Ravnica has received so much love from MTG players. I'm sure there wouldn't be any harm in adding to it. I would very much enjoy more Selesnya cards!
isaacjamesx You mean RE-re-visit.
I'm glad that's all you got out of that.
Nice work!
Hey! That's the set that got me into magic!
When I saw get his in my feed I got very excited.
very nice, now do guild pact and dissension please? Ravnica always was my favourite plane
I love this series
this video is f***ing fantastic
Kamigawa, Scars, Shards, Theros, Innistrad, Core 15, RTR! hop to it! Chop chop!
What did you say about kamigawa?!
When did the Keyrunes come out?
Azorius Senate hype!
I'd usually root for the azorius, but lately (mostly thanks to treasure cruise) i've been rooting for the izzet guild. U/R/x tempo is just the thing to do in every format save vintage.
But... but... My Simics and Dimirs and Izzets and Golgaris...
Yeah, I like a lot of the Ravnican Guilds ;p
Let the knowledge of absolute law inspire you to live a life of absolute order, my friend !
Ah yes, I remember the fun of playing an Azorious permission deck back in the day.
ecstatic!
Man this is awesome
Some interesting trivia behind the Hunted cycle you didn't cover. They were actually designed by Richard Garfield himself.
What about the dimir guild champion? : )
2021 and still watching this!
Great video!!
in which way are "karoo lands" acceleration?
Isn't the hunted cycle a callback to Hunted Wumpus?

You should do either Mirrodin or Legends
I can't find the Voja wolf token for Tolsimir Wolfblood in the gather! : /
Time for some much needed research for when D&D gets Ravnica as a playable setting! Orzhov hype!
You should start the series from the very beginning of Magic lore and work set through set!
Dimir
you forgot to mention how much dredge effected extended paired with psychatog.
The best expansion of magic. Buying the 5th edition when it's out.
ravnica is where i quit until my recent dive back in at mirrodin beseiged
oh i had missed so much~!!
Izzet back? YES IT IS!
i would have liked a bit more of the story. That seems much more important than naming every card from every cycle.
The music in the background kept making me think a cell phone was ringing.
Golgari Grave-Troll isn't banned in modern and "Manaless Dredge" is a Legacy deck, not Vintage Dredge
iWish the CGI videos we got today were just the animation like from the preview trailer.
Golgari grave troll has returned
The Combine will experiment on baby kittens until the next episode is released.
I did not realize that Kamigawa block was considered underwhelming. I wasnt playing during that period.. what made it so bad?
+Alyssin Williams - It wasn't affinity.
Highly parasitic mechanics and lore that failed to resonate with casuals/western players
Gruul!
Dimir guild? What? I'm sorry, Mr. Evan, but there is no such thing as a Dimir guild. Pff I mean, come on.
Arthur Mello i know right, thinking such a bed-time story exists
We've been getting "reports" of the Dimir in the Boros police hall. Please stop sending them in.
Do a Forgotten Lore about Kamiwaga Please... Pretty please
Does anyone still use Gruul?
Yay RAVNICA I loved you =D
Ravnica. My favourite place in the multiverse.
Qoute: Jace Belern :P
Thanks
When is this guy doing dissension?
If only I was in magic during this time (missed both sets)
MOAR MOAR MOAR MOAR MOAR!!!!!!!!!!
My first set.....my first love :') the memories
This was the first and ONLY Block i have ever collected EVERY card from. i had 3 binders (one for each set in the block) numbered with one of every card. I also had a foil of almost every card except for some of the harder to find ones (IE- Chord of calling and such). I miss those binders. sold them because i lost my job... :(
Dredge got a reprint yeah!
Henry Garfield returned to design Ravnica...ps: Ravnica saved mtg's life!!
Lightning helix OHH My Gooood.
i have the dimir symbol tattooed below the back of my neck. anyone else have a guild symbol tattoo?
LOOOORE I LOVE LORE !!!

Izzet on the Streets, Rakdos in the Sheets
Abzan houses! Wooooo wait im in the wrong place aren't I
Dimir rules!
*Hide back into the shadows*
IZZET LEAGUE!!!
My very first deck was a simic deck.
Orzov and Golgari FTW!
With the way the video looked you should have said Michael Dorn was the voice of Goliath from gargoyles. Lol
+Mrtfarrugia
He's not. That's Keith David.
+DanRSL Sorry Coldstone my mistake.
Not just Agrus Kos and Teferi are black. What about Captain Sisay?
pfft Erwin is asking for donations when it is us of the Orzhov that should be receiving donations from him.
