I play since Merquadian Masks and for me Urza always was the iconic protagonist of Magic along side Gerrard and the Weatherlight crew and I just love Yawgmoth, Gix and Tsabo Tavoc as the antagonists. But somehow Wizards never promoted their rich characters in the past like now with Jace, Liliana and so on. What really sucks for me as an old fan of the stories, that planeswalkers were really rare and special and even in Invasion they played a smaller role in the card game. But now it seems that everyone can be planeswalker and to be honest I like the old plotlines much more, because of their darker tone. Invasion kinda started the "there is a big threat and the world is near complete destruction and a small group of heroes must save the day" and the set presented it perfectly story and gameplaywise and integrated tons and tons of beloved characters. Now they repeat this line plot over and over again and threw billions of characters in the story. Sure they develop a cast of planeswalkers, but for me they are like poster models. Overpowered and pretty flat. Just my 2 cents.
FreshDeus Those old characters were horrible, and the shoehorning of them onto so many cards almost made the game unbearable. That whole Kor Vec Dal nonsense was like it was written by a 5 year old. The new characters aren't anything special, either. They're just more carefully crafted to be brand labels for their target audience. I mean, really, having your flagship character being a moody, mysterious, infinitely powerful telepath that was picked on by bullies?! We should feel lucky Jace doesn't wear a fedora.
Yep, like 'Alpha Investments' wants.... WOTC to get URZA's block return to return to return to return to return to R**** - oh shit did I say Ravnica? NO. I'AM HERE TO SAY THAT EARLY MAGIC LORE ( specifically Urza's block) IS WHAT MATTERS! Long live the top 10 sets of all time ( Alpha, beta, U, R, Antiquities, Legends, Uza's block (all 3), Innestrad...modern masters...
These forgotten lore videos are golden. Very well made and the story is really interesting for a person that dont read books. So thank you evan. Cant wait to see more.
Read the lore for this at work because I was bored (off of the wiki and forums). Then get home and you come and explain. I could not of ask for a better way to understand this story.
My girlfriend was just mulling over her The Antiquities War card and asked me about it. We just watched this video together and I forgot how much I loved this series. You should do more of these.
I might have missed something, so the Brothers War started when Mishra started to take over cities right? I don't think Evan explictly stated with what act started the war. Or did I overlook something?
This was great. I own a lot of Chronicle cards which are basically poverty versions of Antiquities, Arabian Nights and the Dark. But I never knew its lore and I was too lazy to read all the books. This makes me appreciate even the crappy cards haha.
I remember walking through a collectibles fair at the Fresno Fashion Fair Mall in the late 90’s and seeing the Mox & Lotus for a hundred to several hundred dollars and thinking why would I care so much to beat my friends at Denny’s on Saturday? Better to not buy a card for the price of a new booster box or the best singles for my decks.
Hate to be a nitpick but two errors I saw, not big ones of course. 1. Your right about how New Argive gets formed, your wrong about the time, Kjeldor was a nation during Ice Age and New Argive was formed after Ice Age and its name is an homage to the orginal argive the Urza and Mishra were from. 2. Tawnos invented Claymen after Kroog had been sacked as protection as he escorted Urza's wife to him. Thats assuming the Books are still considered canon and not the comics, since they were an effort to reign in the sporatic lore but then again we have regressed currently with lore being told in a convulted way, thanks to the god awful string of books after Invasion block that killed it.
uhhm sorry boy but the mana source already did this and imo the story telling was better, so maybe focus on the card creation/ set history next time. still a good video though
