  • This is a 1975 Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) washer doing a quick wash & spin. The timer was quick advanced for time.

This actually looks to be more effective than the Penta swirl and that agitator is pretty good itself.

The soothing sound of a belt drive Kenmore. Nothing like it.

We had the same washer. Step dad was so excited he got them on sale. Back when everyone wanted to shop at Sears for appliances and the Kenmore name actually meant-- >good product...

@Maximilionalpha The towels I use for test loads are old shop rags. These things have seen grease, oil, rust and God knows what else. In other words, THEY ARE NOT AND WILL NOT EVER BE 100% CLEAN AGAIN!

The creaking is the belt. However, we'll find out for sure when I get this machine home in a few months or so. it has been saved for me. I service these also and have rebuilt more than 60 for re-sale or my own use.

MustangFanNC . But what is making the pleasant high pitched hum and woo- woo sound? I heard that was the Belt and pulleys?

I think the timer moves to drain and spin and the points in the timer are still in contact therefore energy flows to the transmission to spin properly but the agitation cycle remains on. it is all in the timer.

@dualactionsurgilator I have one new washer, it don't even do half the stuff that my 75 kenmore can

Perhaps we should distinguish between a creak and a knock, but the creaking is the belt. The knocking could be a number of things from the snubber or pad to the basket drive brake. Many are non-adustable. If this machine has the adjustment nut on the yoke shaft, it may be able to be snugged, or the brake lining de-oiled or replaced.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with the spin of the machine. More likely with the top being raised, the lid striker was not fully in contact with the lid switch which caused that interrupted spin.

There is nothing wrong with the tub brake. The rythmic sound is the belt. MANY machines make this sound, even with new belts. There is a knocking sound, and that is either the agitator gear fork in the transmission (very normal) or the snubber plate moving on the tub ring. Neither are a big deal.

Why did the machine start to spin and then stop for a few seconds starting 4:12 is there a small problem with the machine?

Thanks for commenting. As I was shooting the video, my memory card started to fill up so I had to manually advance the timer to shave some time off the cycle. I advanced it *just* a little to far.

Same thing came to my mind as well. I was thinking Tide didn't do a very good job on this load.
