"Social media is ruining cars for you" "It takes the magic away from seeing cars in person for the first time before seeing them on the internet" ** proceeds to show me, on social media, a bunch of pictures of cars I have never seen. **
Nah, seeing supercars and hypercars in person, even ones that I've seen online a million times before, still gets me excited. I think the reason social media ruined cars for me is because of cars getting "overhyped" and worshipped way too much, which just makes me like them less. A prime example is, of course, the MK4 Supra, but also I think some supercars have fallen victim to this effect.
I'm struggling with wanting M3 but it's extremely overpriced these days. But the thing is that I realized I don't need it. Also the social media being spammed with these cards you'd think it's not as rare as they are. I'll get a used M340i which is realistic considering my paygrade.
Get what you can afford, you can always upgrade later! I bought an M240i before I bought my M2. You’ll have plenty of fun in the m340i, and if you do end up wanting to upgrade you always can. By then prices will have gone down a bit
You get talked down to about your car by people that still drive there moms 1998 Toyota corolla. like bro everyone has their own taste, All they know is V8 and HP numbers
For me its about the passion. I can see the same car and what comes to mind might be the looks, but its also the heritage. What it represents, the technology, everything! The past decade I think I have only been excited for a few cars, cars I'd buy. Viper GTS and Corolla/Yaris GR. I saw one in a yota dealer one time and I was amazed. I didn't look to deep at it as I knew I couldn't buy it, but I wish I had more time to spend with it. It was magical seeing it in person, and I know I will feel the same way when I finally see a Viper Green last gen Viper GTS ❤❤❤ Even 20 years later, I still dream of even SEEING a Carerra GT, I swear on that day I will shed a tear and break down emotionally. Cars are so much more than objects or spec sheets, they're someone's baby. A team put everything they knew into some of these projects or wasn't scared to take a risk and you can just FEEL IT. Its electric!!
cap saw an alpine exotic today for the first time today, got out looked around, examined everything then went on my way, the beauty in cars are not dead!
Nah. Seeing a car on a video is not the same as seeing it in person. I've seen so many cars on the net and still get excited when I see them in person. Maybe it's just a love vs like thing.
I can agree, it was nice to see things you have never seen before in person and find things out on your own. But at the same time it is super sweet to be able to see some of the cars people share online that you would never see / never even knew about.
Bro I get excited everytime i get in my own car. Also people still get excited seeing exotics and sport sedans/coupes even tho they see them online. Might just be a you problem
Sure, but magazines and posters were only a few still images and some specs, whereas now you have full videos about these cars, with sound, everything. I think that extra depth and over saturation is what does it.
Last time I was excited to see a car I got to meet one of my heroes: A McLaren F1. Other than that nothing has really "dazzled" me like I was a kid again. Now I see millions in inventory every day and ... yeah, meh.
As an F87 OG LCI owner, I like your hoody. Pikachu and pokemon for life. Blastoise is king though lol 😆 Good overview on social media. I agree. It does take away and numbs you a bit.

Yup. The majority of “car people” gatekeep so badly you almost have to buy from a list of 10 cars for people to like it. Shame really.

I think if we had a choice to go back to 2004 car culture or stay here today in 2024. We all know which one we gonna pick.
Ehh idk man this is a bit of a stretch, Could just be high expectations then seeing it in person your opinion changes. Thats normal
