You're a cool player RJ with great feel other guys who spend $000's on boutique guitars and flash camera gear but have never really toured or played pro come across as inauthentically you might imagine. Stay true to your vibe man.

You're talking about guitars that are in the $3000-$5000 range, out of reach by most musicians and I like Rhett but I'm sure he's endorsed by Novo guitars!! I met Jack Pearson in Nashville who was introduced to me by Brent Mason, and Jack is a monster player and has a lot of beautiful guitars yet a lot of times you'll see him, especially in the Allman Brothers Tribute shows playing a low end Fender Stratocaster he bought for $100!! I play a PRS Brent Mason model Brent gave me himself otherwise I couldn't afford it and I absolutely LOVE it!! It really is frustrating when you see a musician you love playing a guitar that costs more than you paid for your car!!! But Jack makes that $100 guitar sing showing that it's a poor craftsman that blames his tools!!! But guitars are getting better such as the guitars made by Sire that are a tribute to Larry Carlton that start at $595 and I'm looking forward to trying them out but so far they're sold out fast!! Even Epiphone is beefing up their quality and keeping the prices down!!! I guess what I'm trying to say is you don't need a $5000 guitar to sound like a million dollars!!! Just keep playing!!!
Or, you can get a job, save up, sacrifice a bit, and play anything you want.

I see what looks like a souped up professional Sony cassette deck sitting on top of the Echrorec. What's its purpose, I wonder?
It's a Marantz PMD 2??. There are a few different models, 201, 221, 222, not sure of which one that one is. It's a professional grade, 3 head tape recorder, which makes it makes it a very affordable tape echo. When the price of a decent used Echoplex started to go through the roof, people started to find these things used for next to nothing, and started using them as a cheap alternative. Just needed to run them through a small mixer, to separate the record head, from the playback head, and voilà, you've got a tape echo that tape is cheap for, and very easy to maintain. They were also 2 speeds, 1 7/8 ips, or 7/8 ips, and had pitch control to adjust delay time, or play with the pitch. Added bonus, the preamps on them sound great, and you can adjust the gain, much the same as an Echoplex. They make a great lo-fi, low dollar, solution to having a tape echo.
As for the 4 pots added to the top, not sure what they control, but I'm inclined to think that they moved the input and output volumes to the top, along with a remote for the speed control.
