I have that exact Mondata, but with a Bigsby. Zero issues with tuning stability, it's a brilliant instrument. I did have a treble bleed installed for more tone flexibility. It has become my favorite guitar. I also have the Mondata baritone, which is another outstanding guitar. They're well worth every penny in terms of quality and tone. I would recommend them to anyone looking for something unique in looks but versatile in terms of tone and musical styles.
The RETRO vibe is the fact the combineta, body is a throwback to the 50's Rickenbacker COMBO model guitar, they have not made any of those since the 50's, and most likely did not keep any Patents on that particular body. Body patents are hard to have these days. Very Nice modern guitars at a fairly affordable price. And Nice DEMO's you Fellows Do as Always, production techniques are astounding. PROS for sure!!!
I have a 1 of 12 Peach Exclusive Satin Sonic Blue Combinata XVII. It is awesome. Stock pickups can't be beat. I put some Fralins in and returned it back to Stock. Just a great guitar.
I love my Rivolta Jazzbird... I mean Mondata VIII. Mine has the Les Trem, though. I really dig the offset/Jazzmaster type look with the Firebird raised center and pickups. Plus, the switching is super versatile with so many options. Great guitar!
These are really sweet guitars. I had a limited edition combinata with 3 of those mini HBs and just couldn't get along with them. Based on these sounds though, the P90s are much more up my alley. Loving all the options we have these days within the $1,500ish ballpark
Lots of colors available on these. And there are other models too, 2 pickup mondata's, p90 models. I wonder if the pickups on the mondata are mini humbuckers or like firebirds which are bar magnets pole pieces, minis are like the large Gibson humbuck style the bar magnets are under the pickups with Round steel polepieces. Both have Their own Vibe/sound. The mondata kind of reminds me of the Varitone circuit sort of. There are a couple 12 string models too, and maybe Baritones too. So they are a Eastwood/Novo joint venture. Interesting.
9:05 Bottom switch: down = middle pup off; middle = middle pup on; up = middle pup only (overrides top switch). Top switch: down = bridge pup; middle = bridge and neck pups; up = neck pup.
I’ve got the same Combinata for several years now. When I saw that Adriatic Blue for the first time I knew I needed that guitar. Glad it plays and sounds as good as it looks.
Thanks for the review. Can you give me a little more insight on the neck profile of the Mondatta XVIII. I’ve heard it described as a chunky C? I am not a big fan of chunky 50’s Les Paul profiles. How does this compare? Thanks.
Great instruments I'm sure, but I can't stand the look. I find the german carve on the Mondata body to be incredibly tacky and that headstock is a crime.
The fact they don’t make more Strat and Tele clones is already a refreshing start….

The Combinata looks like a modernized Mosrite Brass Rail model from the 70s.
