    I love Fano's! My buddy just got two new Novo's they're beautiful. You'll love this guitar and it will sound incredible. Who gets to pick out their wood???? Just beware, I would limit any relic features!

    Some great choices there and it will look amazing when it's all done. I know you were going for the teal type finish with hot pink guard on it but what about doing a pink finish under the teal too so it shows through when it starts to wear.

    Nice piece of pine there R.J. I personally wouldn’t paint it. I’d do a transparent white wash and top with clear nitro. I would then add a tortoise shell pickguard with gold hardware. Just my 2 cents. No matter what you do I’m sure it will kick ass.

    Did you tap the bodies and neck wood and compare? There can be such a vast difference between two blanks; some go thud while others go "Ting". Each piece is unique in its frequency response. Most overlooked is the neck wood and how it resonates along with fingerboard which seems to sculpt the sound of the maple/mahogany neck base. Looks killer. It is one of the most anticipatory experiences Ive ever had........waiting for it to land in hands. And most nerve wracking while its en route(fedex). I would imagine that 75%of the guitar, regardless of the materials gives you that base but its that other 25% that takes something over the top or just so-so. The great ones are that rare breed where everything compliments one another and pushes those frequencies forward. Its more of a gamble when ordering an acoustic but time, shredding and care go along way to what it can eventually become.I wait with you. Cheers RJ!

      We got a pallet in waaaay back that was gorgeous but a tad too heavy for normal use. So we saved it until we made semi-hollows. The stuff we were looking through for RJ was a fresh pallet - all good stuff for Serus J's!

    Really surprised at the pine body. Apparently Novo doesn't give much consideration to the whole tonewood debate :) No one builds with pine. Alright, HARDLY anyone. One reason is its so soft (and light) that it dents REALLY easily. Be careful. The first Tele prototypes were pine and the working musicians that Leo tested with told him to switch to hard wood for that reason. So will you share the final cost with us? And do their guitars really sound that awesome or is that just you?

    So RJ, I look at having a guitar builder relic a guitar as a wannabe move. I have 40+ year-old guitars that look in better shape than some of these relic guitars that get dragged around parking lots and look ridiculous.

    • @RJRonquillo
      @RJRonquillo  5 років тому +2

      My reason for having relic guitars (I have 4) - is, mostly mental - I can play them and throw them around without worrying about dings. I had a relic Tele fall out of a gig bag onto my driveway, and I couldn't tell where it got dinged lol.

  • @linheitzig6916

    I have a boner just watching this blog. Being a low budget musician, I get to pick my guitars through catalogs and music stores websites. Then watch someone like RJ demo it for us. RJ, if you read this, how long did it take you to pick all the wood?

    Knots in a guitar that costs $3,000? I get that it adds character, but it doesn’t appear to be quality wood. Maybe I’m a snob, but not my thing.
