I'd say to go with what works best for you and your set up. The RC-600 is a great piece of kit and some people utilise all of the FX on board without using external FX or footswitches. Personally, I use my BOSS Katana Amp to provide most of my guitar tones, and use the RC-600 to add some EQ, compression and Reverb to vocals and some percussion. I know a few people use entire pedalboards on top of the RC-600 and don't use any FX in the RC whatsoever. I'd say, experiment with the FX in the RC and if you don't find anything you like, consider adding other external pedals to your arsenal. Hope this helps. Ross

Thank you very much for this video Ross! It’s the reason i ordered one last week. It arrived yesterday and i set it up just as you described here. Works like a charm. I bought and sold loopers for years. I’ve used several boss rc models, a boomerang, singular sound aeros loop studio, etc. Your array of 6 single pedal loopers in mode 1 is really what sold me on this looper. I’m looping forward to the simplicity and versatility of this configuration.
Thank you so much for your kind words Andrew. It means a lot that this video had reached people like you and helped you out in some way. I hope the device is all you expected and more and best of loop for the future!! Ross
I'm really new to looping. Of the ones you've tried which was your favorite? I'm drawn to the 600 because it has effects and it seems that you could get a good enough bass tone on your guitar with the provided octave effect. Do any of the others have built in effects? Thanks for your time.@@andywason3414
Thank you for your comment. I believe it is possible to Memory Inc and Memory Dec via an external footswitch plugged into the RC-600, but not via MIDI. Hope this helps.
Wow ! great demo , I wish ALL UA-cam demos where like yours, thinking of buying Boss RC 600, but still uncertain if it will fit what I want to use it for.Basically I want to add a Stereo backing track, then add guitar and synth parts to play in sync ,Then it beTRIGGERED by my Nektar Pacer midi controller. If this is possible , a video on how to set this up would be very appreciated. Thanks again for great content and clarity..... John
Hi John, many thanks for your kind words. It's greatly appreciated and hope you've also found some use out of the other videos. To answer your question, I would say it's definitely possible for you to achieve all of those things. With respect to triggering backing tracks, it's not something I've personally done, but because the recorded audio files are .wav files, you should be able to add those to selected TRACK folder and use that particular track to play back your backing track. Hope this helps?
Nicely done. I wish all tutorial videos were like this - clear instructions, we can see exactly what you're doing, and no unnecessary waffle. It's a complete contrast to another video I just watched, where rapid jump cuts were used, even between button presses when changing a setting. With the unnecessarily rapid narration, by the end, I was no wiser how to do what he suggested, or why. With your video, everything was so clear, I don't think I'd need to watch it again to make every change you made.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and indeed for your kind words. When I first made this video, I had no intention of creating a UA-cam channel. I just wanted to create a useful video for users of the RC-600. Now, thanks to fantastic people like you, I have the motivation to keep making content, hopefully useful content, and continue to share things I learn along the way. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and I wish you all the best on your journey with the RC-600. Ross
Thanks so much. Your videos have been very helpful in setting up my RC600. Is there a way to set the drum rhythm intro to be just a "count in" click and then go into the selected drum rhythm as opposed to a drum intro?
Hi Ken, glad you're finding them useful. I believe around 3 minutes into the following video should help you out and explain the differences between intro record and intro play... ua-cam.com/video/YBlcw0tPUZg/v-deo.html
Great video dude, thanks! I just got mine a few days ago, have been having a blast with it but I'm ready to buckle down and get serious. This helped a lot!
Thanks Ross, this is realy a very good description of how to set up this versitile device. I`ve already started to custumize it. The problem is that I didn`t follow your instruction to first update the firmware because I thought , as I just bought it brandnew that the latest firmware would be already running. But now I found out that there is a later one available (1.4). So my question is: will there be all the new settings I`ve done (such as putting all 6 loopfunctions on the first mode and the FXs on the second ) be erased ? A few other questions came up such as, if it is possible to have acces to more that one FX-Bank at one time the Inputs (using InFX on Bank A for guitars and InFxs on Bank B for Vocals at the same time, when looping guitar and vocals at the same time for instance ) and is it possible to store certain settings like those mode settings or effekt settings ? And is there a possibility to lock certain memorys so I don`t change or erase them by accident ? Maybe you have answered all those questions in a few of your tutorials but so far I couldn`find an answer to those. Thanks in advance for your patience responding to my issues
Thanks for checking out the channel, I'm glad the videos have been useful. Some good questions there; you are always best to copy over your Roland folder to a computer before updating. This is a simple way to back up your data so that you don't lose any of your saved info, changes, customisation, etc. You could also look at the RC Editor, which is a third-party app, and gives you plenty of options, including backing up and editing your settings from your computer. Unfortunately, it's not possible to use more than one bank of FX at the same time, so you are just limited to 4 FX at once, I'm afraid. I tend to save a memory as a template and then just copy that memory across when I want to use those specific settings on another memory. In terms of locking memories, if you do make changes to them, you would have to physically save to overwrite them anyway, so I don't think that would be a major issue. But you could always make backups on the regular just to be on the safe side. I would say I back up a couple of times a month, and if I make major changes, I'll make a backup before and after. It's always best to play it safe! Hope this helps.
Did you manage to sort this Isaac? When you press Enter and Exit together and it asked you to "Write", you should be able to toggle over to whichever memory you like and save your information there.
@salmanshami you're very welcome. Glad it's been useful. To answer your question, tracks are numbered 1-6 and FX are labelled A,B,C etc. With the default setup, you have access to Input FX A, B and C and Track FX A, B and C, which is why you have those letters labelled on the device. But you can obviously change the function of each pedal in the CTRL FUNC menu. Good luck!
Brilliant video. I usually get frustrated and pull my hair out trying to watch videos like this, but yours is amazing!! Any chance I could ask a few questions? Happy to pay for some 1 on 1 tutorial work? Please. Having awful trouble
Thanks for this tutorial, very thorough and clear 👍 A question - when customising individual pedals, do you have to save those changes to memory in order not to lose them? Is there some shortcut here? I'm specifically referring to changing pedal 9 to an All Clear function (essential ur right!)
You're always best saving your changes as you go, but when you make changes to the system, and you have your settings as system settings, the changes will be made across all 99 memories. You'll need to look into what settings can be changed across the entire system, though, as it's not everything, unfortunately. All the best!
That was extremely useful thank you. I just purchased mine and started playing with it. I am a singer songwriter and I have my mic and guitar plugged in. My question is is there a way to apply the effects differently to the guitar and vocals. I am fine keeping the reverb on both but when I want to put other effects on the guitar or use the harmony function on vocals I don't want them on both inputs. If you have a solution I would really appreciate it. You had also mentioned that people use the expression pedal as a wah. How would you set that up? Thanks for all your help!
Absolutely! So, you can only use up to 4 FX at any one time, and there are 4 different banks. Many people have a separate bank for each instrument, e.g. bank A for vocals, bank B for guitar, etc. That's great, but if you plan on singing and playing at the same time whilst using input FX, it's not possible to do this unless you limit yourself to only 4 FX in a single bank. What I do is use Bank A as my performing bank and send FX separately to each instrument. So, FX A might be a reverb that goes to my vocal microphone, FX B might be a delay to go to the guitar, FX might be a vocal reverb and FX D might be a compression to go to everything. In order to select where FX are being sent, go into your inoyt FX menu, select an effect and page to the left using the arrow button. This allows you to select the insert for which that effect is being sent to; mic 1, mic 2, inst 1, and inst 2. Hope this helps! Ross
Hello buddy, thank you very much for your video. I have one question, ive changed the parameters to what you suggest , but if i move the first knob to memory02 everything in memory01 dissapears!! Hows that possible? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again for such a great video!!!! 🎉
So happy I've managed to help out in some way. There's plenty more content on the channel and lots more to come so hopefully you'll find a few more of the videos useful too. Take care, Ross
One more question (as your tutorial as literally been EXTREMELY helpful!) - You mentioned you could control individual loop volumes with your volume pedal. How would you set this up? Thanks!
You could control your individual loop volumes in a few ways; you could use an expression pedal, use a midi contoller/keyboard with knobs or faders, or even use a MIDI app such as Touch OSC on an iPad. You will need to set up a few assigns to do this but is certainly possible. The easiest way though, would be to use the knobs on your RC-600 to control a few loop volumes. If you get to MENU>SETUP, you could do this here. Hope this helps.
Hey thanks for the video! Is the a option to have all 6 pedal on mode one and enable the overdub.. I wanna enable that I need to klick twice to stop the track..
This tutorial was extremely useful to me! Behind the 15 things themselves it is a way to go through the scaring complexity of teh device and starting to be acquainted to it. thanks a lot for sharing!
Thanks for the comment. I'll be soon making a series of videos running through the manual and parameter guides step-by-step so stay tuned if that could be of use to you!
Hello, Thank you very much for this Tutorial. Super clear instructions and informations. I wanted to ask you where did you get this plastic protections for the Knobs? Cheers
Hello. Where did you get those toppers for the buttons? Do they come with the unit or you got them separately? If so, which ones do you recommend? Very good tutorial. Thank very much for your help. I am converted! 😊🙏🏼
The downside of making six single-button loopers is that when you clear a track it plays for a second or two while you hold the pedal down. Even if that track isn’t playing at the time, it comes on for a bit before it erases. Could ruin a moment or two. Better to have a dedicated stop/erase button for each track.
Such a great and informative video! One question. Is there a way to program the ‘all stop’ button to stop at the end of the loop like you did with loop stop mode for the individual loops?
Thanks so much for the comment. As long as the loops are set to stop at the end of their cycle, as you've mentioned, the ALL START/STOP button should also let the loops stop at the end of their loop. Unless, the ALL START/STOP is set to IMMEDIATE. You can go and check this out in the CTRL FUNC settings. Hope this helps. Ross

This is the alpha and the omega of RC 600 videos.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Thanks a lot. Very clear. Just got one. Flute player. All the best!
Thank you so much. Glad it helped!
Very good en in depth review.. Thanks.. Regards
Glad it was helpful!
Ross
LOOPING forward like how u did that 😂
I've also run the gamut of loopers, RC300, Aeros, pigtronix, ditto etc etc. How are you liking your RC600? Any downsides?
I'm really new to looping. Of the ones you've tried which was your favorite? I'm drawn to the 600 because it has effects and it seems that you could get a good enough bass tone on your guitar with the provided octave effect. Do any of the others have built in effects? Thanks for your time.@@andywason3414
Thanks for the great videos, is there a way to use an external foot switch to scroll up and down the memories?
Ross
Fantastic tutorial. Much appreciated Ross. Better off for performing and utilizing this powerful tool in a meaningful way.
Very welcome!
you just saved me a few hours. THANK YOU!
Fantastic! You're very welcome!
Best start up I’ve seen so far. Thank you so much
You're very welcome!
@@RossGallagherMusic be good to have a video on Boss Tone and importing wav file loops. The drum beats are good with rc600 but there’s much better.
@@andymusic6943 absolutely! Great shout, Andy. I'll have a look into that and upload something soon. Cheers, Ross

This is literally the BEST! Thank you Ross.
Thanks for your kind words, Thiago!
Agree with others. You rock!! Thank you for the help!!
Happy to help!
Very nice Video! But can you tell me where you get these caps which are over the knobs?
They are footwich pedal toppers and I've got links to purchase them in the description of my videos. Enjoy!
Thanks for all your content and videos. Finding them so helpful 👍👌
My pleasure! So glad you're getting use out of the videos.
Great introduction, thanks so much. Really clear explanations for such a sophisticated device. Thanks very much.
You're very welcome!
Great video dude, thanks! I just got mine a few days ago, have been having a blast with it but I'm ready to buckle down and get serious. This helped a lot!
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. It was very helpful for me as a Rc600 newbie:-)
Fantastic! That's great to hear!
This video is da BOMB! So well done and clear. Thank you.
Happy to help! Glad you've found it useful!
Hello great video!!! Hey how do I copy memory 10 to 11?
Did you manage to sort this Isaac? When you press Enter and Exit together and it asked you to "Write", you should be able to toggle over to whichever memory you like and save your information there.
Thank you so much! You made my life easier, excited to explore my new rc600❤
Amazing outline..I ❤ am so grateful Ross.
You are most welcome, Dan. I'm glad you've found it useful!
Thanks for the amazing video. What I don't understand is why tracks are sometimes numbered 1 to 6 and other times have letters A, B, C etc?
@salmanshami you're very welcome. Glad it's been useful.
To answer your question, tracks are numbered 1-6 and FX are labelled A,B,C etc. With the default setup, you have access to Input FX A, B and C and Track FX A, B and C, which is why you have those letters labelled on the device. But you can obviously change the function of each pedal in the CTRL FUNC menu.
Good luck!
The best vídeo! Thanks from Brazil ❤
Thank you too!
THANK YOU for all the time you spend doing these tutorials for us beginners. Cheers 😃👍🏽🎤
Thank you very much for your comments. I'll have some more videos coming soon so they will hopefully help you out some more.
What an excellent explanation and demonstration. Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
I've. Made pedal 7 to change to effects with just a click
Ross
This is excellent! I appreciate your logical delivery, the short summaries of each section, and it is helpful to know what setup you prefer.
Absolutely no problem at all. Glad you're enjoying the content!
Hello buddy, thank you very much for your video. I have one question, ive changed the parameters to what you suggest , but if i move the first knob to memory02 everything in memory01 dissapears!!
Hows that possible? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again for such a great video!!!! 🎉
Thanks so much for your comment. Are you saving your settings before moving to another memory? Hope you've managed to sort things out.
I really needed this, I’m a complete novice and this has helped me to try and fathom out my rc600 I’ll be coming back to this many times 👍🏻

Many thanks for your kind words!
Hey thanks for the video!
Is the a option to have all 6 pedal on mode one and enable the overdub.. I wanna enable that I need to klick twice to stop the track..
You're very welcome. I'm not too sure but will look into it!
Thanks for this video!! Thinking of getting one and this answered all of the questions I had about footswitch and loop modes.
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much for such a detailed lesson! I had no idea that I had not only a looper under my feet, but also a pedalboard.
You're very welcome!
Hello,
Thank you very much for this Tutorial. Super clear instructions and informations.
I wanted to ask you where did you get this plastic protections for the Knobs?
Cheers
I got them on Amazon. They're the clear Mooer ones.
Hello. Where did you get those toppers for the buttons? Do they come with the unit or you got them separately? If so, which ones do you recommend? Very good tutorial. Thank very much for your help. I am converted! 😊🙏🏼
I use a mix of the Mooer toppers and the Sonicake ones. You can find links to them in the description.
The downside of making six single-button loopers is that when you clear a track it plays for a second or two while you hold the pedal down. Even if that track isn’t playing at the time, it comes on for a bit before it erases. Could ruin a moment or two. Better to have a dedicated stop/erase button for each track.
You could change the All Clear to a PUSH rather than HOLD, which will instantly clear the loops without playing them.
Ross
OMG Man Well Done !
Cheers Dave!
