That one is really spot on for me too! It's not something I felt I wanted to wear but I was astounded that it was so evocative of a thunderstorm when I smelt it! 🙂
I completely agree with you. I'm not a fan of any of the Demeter sprays to be honest. The roll on versions are much better, and this is especially true when it comes to Thunderstorm, imo. It is not a scent that I would recommend for anyone looking for complements, and it's not something I would wear in public in close quarters , but the instant I see storm clouds, I run for my Thunderstorm roll on and go sit on my porch and wait. The experience is everything.
Finally managed to catch up on this! Such fascinating content. As someone who failed miserably at Science in school, I’m honestly in awe as to how you manage to research and then apply your academic knowledge to fragrances. I’d never thought of science being used in perfume but of course it is! 🤦♀️ More of this series please 🙏 😘
Hey Lucinda, I hope you are having a good week! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this! Yes there is a whole world of science in perfumery... I have a more fun, less serious science video coming this Saturday hopefully... 😊 Thanks for watching again! 🥰
@@WhatTheFragrance I reviewed it in another video, a Maison Margiela house overview, from my sample, it's rosier than I remembered. All of the fragrances are unisex marketed.
Recently I'd purchased a sample from our local perfumer Z.Yang called Petrichor -it took my breath away! Grassy, a bit citrusy and juat great smell that i have no words to expressed. She did have tonka in the based for a hint of sweetness. Its soooo good. I love the smell of grass, tea etc!
Thank you for the detailed video! My favourite petrichor based scents are Figment Man by Amouage, Neon Graffiti by Jazmin Sarai, Baie 19, California Snow by Lab on Fire, and Hermann A Mes Cotes by Etat Libre d'Orange. There are also some patchouli based fragrances that give me a petrichor vibe due to its earthy nature.
Yes! Patchouli can definitely achieve that feel! I would love to try Figment Man! I absolutely love Amouage, they are such an interesting house! Thanks for watching 🥰
Aah, no problem! I have been thinking about doing this video for about a year! 😂 That new fragrance just made me get in with it! I had no clue what was making up the petrichor smell a d I was curious to find out! ❤️
I AM a pluvifile! Hard core! I have a sound machine that plays rain sounds and I play it every single night to fall asleep. Rain is my ultimate favourite thing, which is why I NEED to come visit you in UK! Petrichor is so interesting me. YOU are so interesting to me!!! This whole series needs to be seen by every. single. frag. head. period.
Haha! I have been so curious about petrichor and I also love listening to rain sounds 😂 I didn't know people had recordings before I saw them by accident on UA-cam one day! And I didn't realise that you could buy rain sounds! This has blown my mind 🤯 thanks for watching Julija ❤️ come visit when you eventually come to the UK! ❤️
You know how much I LOVE these videos ! 😍 What used to be an evolution mainly for survival is now made present into a scent thanks to science… like how great is that ?!
Hi Claire. I must say I enjoy your scientific series. I often read notes on fragrances and wonder how and what they are based on when I see things like “rain” listed. I appreciate you sharing this knowledge and for doing the research.
Oh thank you so much, that really means a lot! ❤️ I remember also looking on Fragrantica and wondering what on Earth stuff like rain and solar notes were! It's so puzzling and stuff like that gets me curious every time! Thank you so much again and I hope you have a lovely weekend! ❤️
Hi claire! Love after rain smell 🌧🙃 Also i love green, mossy, earthy fragrances if they are well done with the right ingredients. Curious about capturing the petrichor smell in a bottle. So thank you for your recommendations 🙏🌹 Great informative video 💞
Thank you! I think the nicest petrichor fragrances are the ones where it is subtle and just one aspect of the overall composition. I'm still looking for the one for me 😊 let me know if you have any recommendations! Thanks for watching! ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume Hi dear Claire ❤🥰 Sorry to be late ! Since the beginning of may, I have been overwhelmed by my work. I still teaching my master students, correcting exams and struggling with some academic deadlines 🤯 I have missed to film my perfume videos ! The fragrances in my collection that gives me that vibe are a miniature from Elie Saab essence collection. It is no 6 vetiver. Chanel no 19 edp gives me that after rain feeling as well. My bottle is from 2013. I prefer it over the current formulation.
@@perfumetales me too right now as I am on holiday right now so slow to reply. And yes I heard that a lot of people miss how Chanel no19 used to smell. I thought that it had been discontinued until I saw it in a shop because people were so upset about it!
So glad I've found this video! Thank you for the very informative content. This seems to be a rare note in fragrances but I've been looking for a good one with petrichor all day. I could have just watched your video, hehe. Gonna try some of these.
Oh no worries! Petrichor is really interesting, I think the earthier tones are perhaps less friendly for most people. I think many people think of petrichor as something more watery and are a bit shocked when they smell geosmin. 😂 Good luck and thanks for watching 🥰
I love petrichor in fragrance! I love Hermes Un Jardin sur le Toit; I think it smells like fresh, green apples, roses, green herbs, and damp earth. Also, some Aesop fragrances are very earthy; one of my favorites is called Eremia and is all about broken, green stems and petrichor. Thank you for this very informative video!
Being an ultimate outdoor-man, of course I love most kinds of petrichor. I am living in a forest with old oak and pine trees. So my favorite petrichor contents the scents of wet wood und stones, moss, earth and pine. And I also like to wear it when visiting the town or the city. There may not be a lot of fans of that kind of fragrance nowadays, but I feel comfortable in showing where I come from and where i belong to.
My partner and I live in a northern, mid-continent area where the winters are quite long and the soil is a rich black color. By the time the soil finally thaws and we get the first whiff of geosmin, we're in heaven. We love the smell of black dirt so much it was one of the first niche fragrance notes we bought. Matter of fact, until your video, we confused the petrichor accord with what you've just informed us is geosmin. Thank you so much for another interesting and educational fragrance video! We love your channel content! 🦋🧡🦋 PS Our two geosmin fragrances are: CB I Hate Perfume's 402 M2 Black March, and Sucreabeile's Here's the Thing F*** Everyone. My partner uses these to lightly layer with other fragrances. I use them to spark JOY!
Oh wow! That is amazing! I'd never heard of either of those two fragrances but that is so fab that you love geosmin so much and have found scents that you find so joyous! Yes I can imagine the winter to spring thaw is such a moment of relief and hopefulness, I totally understand that that type of smell would absolutely spark joy for you! Thank you so much for watching and thanks for telling me about these fragrances! I really want to smell more petrichor! 😊
Thanks for another enlightening video! I don't really prefer aquatic, ozonic, watery, earthy, calone, vetiver scents. So petrichor sounds like something I can safely avoid.
I'm feeling a little ashamed that after almost 40 years on this earth, I've only just learned the term that's described the fleeting scent I've experienced all my life and long for every summer. Almost akin to marvelling at a rainbow knowing that you won't see one again for possibly another year or two. The storms that came after our most recent heatwave brought this scent back to me, it begins in that 45 seconds when you hear the rolling thunder in the distance, the humidity plunges and you just know it's going to chuck it down any second now, and then it does, the roads and pavements slowly saturate, 3 minutes of heaven on earth and then it's gone for another year and I'm left feeling both satisfied and nostalgic thinking "if only I could bottle that feeling." This video makes me very very happy, Thank you so very much ❤️
It's absolutely amazing isn't it? A truly stunning smell! I love summer storms, I even like being outside in them 🤣 but the smell is something that takes me back to childhood. I am not sure I want to smell of petrichor, but I do love the smell of petrichor if you understand what I mean? Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume I absolutely understand, there's lots of things that I love to smell but not sure I'd like to smell of: funfair candyfloss, the neighbours' barbecue, slightly damp freshly cut grass, mum making caramel in her kitchen, real coconut water/milk, the smokiness in the air after a fireworks display etc. I would possibly wear the smell of real strawberries but I'm unaware if it's been perfectly replicated in fragrance, strawberry flavour doesn't do it justice. Summer storms are so wonderful but it has to be that "fat" rain that slaps down on your skin for me to just stand there and soak it up if you know what I mean. Now I understand that there's different petrichor varieties, I can explore and won't be too dismayed if I don't find my interpretation straight away, there's a lot of pollution in London which probably adds to the composition of "my petrichor" I have distant relatives in UP, India and so the next time I visit I'll look into getting some Mitti Attar for you to sample as I'm sure you may enjoy the rural petrichor scent more than I could appreciate as I've been a city boy my whole life.
@@Nimzzeee yes strawberry seems hard to replicate in fragrance. There are some really bad attempts out there. 🤣 And yes! Proper storms only 😜 I bet petrichor in London is tremendously different to the countryside and certainly also Uttar Pradesh where I imagine it is different again. I wonder how much the mitti attar smells of clay and whether the sandalwood oil base is distinctive in it? It would be amazing to find out. Thank you! 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume yes exactly that smell! I have had a good one depsite working. Off tomorrow and ready for an epic chill! Hope you have had a nice one too xx
Wonderful video Claire and very interesting, I love the smell of it like charged particles bouncing all over the place the energy almost makes my hairs stand up on my arms it's magical🙏
Great information and representation! Even the description to your video is very well put together. I have a small suggestion though. It would be awesome if the video description also included the compounds you mentioned. Like, listing the name of those terpenes, etc, so that we can easily reference them without several watches. Still great, though! I'm going to follow your channel for more information as I begin my journey into amateur perfuming!
Thank you for watching, subbing and for your suggestion! I have a few other science videos that you might enjoy. I don't tend to make the science ones very often as they take a long long time to put together, as you might imagine 😂 but I do love doing them when I have the time. Good luck with your perfumery. 🙂
Maybe! 😂 I think I like the watery feel of some of them, I do really love something ozonic sometimes, but I don't think I want to smell like straight up geosmin 😂 thanks for watching 🥰
Thank you very much for the science serie ! There are two passions in my life : fragranges and to learn ! I watched at least three times, in order to not miss any detail. I have one fragrance that has the wet soil smell , petrichor smell, and that is Thierry Mugler's Angel EDP, the old version, right on first spray the patchouli in it is petrichor, absolutely. Wonderful video 💙 Have a blessed weekend 💖🌸
Yes, I totally get that! I had never thought about it but yes that is exactly it with the patchouli at the beginning! Thank you for making me think about that fragrance in a different way! ❤️ Thank you so much for watching too! Have a lovely weekend! 💕
Hi Claire. I'm a year late to this video but I found a beautiful petrichor fragrance where the rain note is only one facet of the fragrance. The other notes are coffee and almond. The fragrance is called Memoir 04: Wish You Were Here. I get a citrusy note as well but the coffee and rain are in the background, the almond makes it slightly sweet. It's beautiful. I love it. Had to let you know about it.
That sounds really likeable! I have to admit that petrichor in isolation is really not for me so that sounds interesting 🙂 thanks for letting me know 🥰
How interesting! Thank you so much for this informations and please, go on. I love the smell of Petrichor, it is calming and refreshing at the same time, depending on the composition. But you are right, I love to smell it more than actually wearing it. Although the Hermes Garden Line hast some with this distinctiv note. F.e. Sur le toit. Thanks again.
Thank you! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this! I was so so curious to smell some petrichor fragrances but yes, as soon as I did, I was satisfied and didn't want to own any 🤣 it's a beautiful smell but not for me I don't think 😊 I have tried a lot of those Hermes le Jardin line, but I constantly forget which is which 🤦♀️ I need to go smell them all again, I want to get one! Thank you for watching as always and I hope you have a lovely weekend 💕
Un Jardin Sur Le Nil is sooo good 👌 on my wishlist since a time, but not in my collection, yet. Love the natural feeling without beeing too green or herbal, simply pleasent 🥰🤗
Hi Claire my favourite is Angel and Flower Bomb as the patchouli is right there love it.During the day or in small spaces I love Daisy .I also have Because of You and my husband likes it.Recently my sons bought me Juicy Couture but I can’t smell it on me ,it is like Daisy light and airy more summer. Angel I love at night it’s beautiful and I remember when my husband first bought me Viktor Rolf Flower Bomb I loved it and still do.l have others but don’t seem to wear them like ones I have mentioned.x
Angel is a classic. A very striking fragrance but inviting at the same time. Flowerbomb I like too but I really enjoy the nectar flanker especially! I've finished my bottle of Daisy and I don't think I'll repurchase but I really enjoy it in spring, so pretty! Thanks for watching ❤️
To me Baei 19 captures more earthly components of the petrichor compared to Maison Margiela after the rain stopped. Maison Margiela smells plain fresh, crisp and watery. So I bought Baei 19 because of the more earthly smell of the petrichor in it. It evokes a nostalgic feeling of my childhood living at the foot of a hill where it receives the highest annual rainfall in my country Malaysia.
I have tried a few of the demeter. Thunderstorm captures it best... which also sort of smells like scotch tape. I will have to try these other ones. I am looking for something that smells like dug up wet gravel in a construction zone, and you actually mentioned it partially. I think it is a very nice scent. Thankyou for this informative video
I love petrichor so I will see if I can try some of these fragrances! One that doesn't exactly smell like petrichor but is kinda adjacent is Hermann à mes Côtés me Paraissait une Ombre by Etat Libre d'Orange, instead of the scent of when the rain first hits the dry, warm ground (or asphalt in the city) it is more like as if you were in a rose garden during an autumn rain. It does have some of that ozone and wet ground notes, but it's definitely "colder" and "wetter" than the scent I personally associate with petrichor, which for me is a "sudden rain during a hot summer day" smell. I tried it a year ago and the 50 ml bottle was my self birthday gift a couple of months later, I absolutely love how it captures the rainy mood.
Yes, I think a lot of people take petrichor for just rain don't they? But you're right, it's more about the hot wet earth really. I do think I prefer the more rain based smells though. It's hard to find anything in the designer realm that comes close, it is, by definition, a less mass market kind of smell. I need to try more from ELDO, the few I've tried have been very interesting and one a love! Haha 😂 I also self gift 😉 I got Bouquet Encore for my 40th this year. Thanks for watching 🥰
Informative and interesting like always!! I had no idea what any of this was! I do love all of the earthy smells! Thank you so much for a great video like always👌
I finally understood ozonic note! Superb video! Brava! I have a little kit of the little garden series by Hérmès somewhere, must take it out now! My sister loves the smell of wet clay or bricks and moss or trees.
Thank you! Yes I think those Hermes fragrances are good examples of damp garden smells! It sounds like you should get your sister a petrichor fragrance! Thanks for watching 😘
Fantastic informative video, really enjoyed that Claire, full of lots of useful info. Have you ever tried Tank Battle by Lush. That is supposedly inspired by Tachowa Covington and the battle to keep his home, an abandoned water tank on the highway of California, after being tagged by Banksy. I get bubblegum and an earthy wet rain feel from it. Can’t see any notes that would suggest it’s petrichor but it’s a wonderful smell. Love these videos, you are proper schooling me. 🙏🏻👍🏻
Haha! Thank you! Well all you other channels have been schooling me for years now 🤣 You know what? I have a huge list of Lush fragrances that I would love to try, I will add it to the list. I know a lot of their fragrances have stories behind them, I was listening to an interview with the founder Mark Constantine and he was talking about Dear John being about meeting his father for the first time. Anyway, I love bubblegum 😍 and that sounds an insane combo of notes, so I will seek it out! I love a bit of weird 🤣 thanks so much for watching Barry! 😊
I live in a wooded area, close enough to beaches and also work on a military base. The “after the rain” smell is different in all of them, but all smell great.
Thank you so much Sunny! Sorry for the late reply, been without WiFi on and off for many days! Yes wet concrete is very school for me in a way, not sure why! 🥰
For me, the heavy summer air before a thunderstorm in the UK is miller Harris found at dusk, a humid Chinese garden after the rain would be Hermes in jardin de Monsieur Li. Those are the only two I have to add to those here. Thanks for watching ☺️
This content is priceless!! I love the earthy smell and taste of beets! I had no “earthly” idea that it’s used in perfumes. Sorry, I couldn’t help the terra-ble pun. 😬
Very informative video, I love aquatic fragrances, but I think good ones are hard to find. I think Bal d'Afrique Byredo smells a lot like Un Jardin Sur Le Nil Hermès, I like both, and would like to purchase one, have you smelled them side by side?
I have samples of both of them I think! Although jardin sur le nil might have run out 🤦♀️, I can dig them out and sniff them side by side... I didn't smell either for a while, but I don't remember having a recognition of those two smelling very similar, I may change my mind when I retry them with this in mind though, who knows?! For Bal d'afrique I remember that I tend to smell fig in the drydown, which isn't listed. Thanks for watching 🥰
I think there is one fragrance Hermann a mes cotes me parassait by Etat libre d'orange which has this geosmin note in BUT I hear its, such a beauty. Its mixed, with rose 🌹 I might seek this out!
I've only tried on ELdO fragrance so far and I think it was one of their friendlier ones, but I really enjoyed it! I would love to sniff some of their weirder ones! ❤️
I live in Las Vegas Nevada USA and its very arid here. Not tons of vegetation. And it rains relatively infrequently. So we get a good concrete and pavement petrichor after rains in the hot summers. Probably heavy on ozonic and whatever aerosolizes from the concrete or pavement. I have a small petrichor scent collection, and the best concrete petrichor scent I know of is Roja Parfums Oceania. This is from my Fragrantica review of it: The best petrichor "after the rain" scent I've yet smelled. Not a true maritime/oceanic scent like EROLFA, which is the best of that oceanic genre (best "salty sea spray" scent) ever. Oceania is the freshly wet concrete of the marina after a rain shower moved through before you get in your sail boat and get underway. The rain stops, the sun comes back out and the rain water starts evaporating in whafts up to your nose, mixing with the scent of the nearby flowers and greenery.
Im always learning something new on your channel Claire 👩🏻🔬 I’m loving the foraging memes🤣 Not a fan of asphalt petrichor I know some people love it but I prefer the after smell of rain on grass or trees. I would love to have some petrichor candles in the house. What a productive Saturday and it’s only 9 am! I’m truly grateful for this crash course Claire 💗🤗 didn’t even know what this was and now I do! Can’t wait to tell my kids there’s a word for this after rain smell that they love so much 😊 I hope you have a wonderful weekend Claire✨
Yes I think asphalt petrichor is very different isn't it?! I think ds & Durga make some petrichor fragrances candles, although I'm sure also that there are some more affordable alternatives. I remember hearing about petrichor when I first started watching UA-cam and being so incredibly curious out it... And yeah, as a kid, I loved that summer rain smell and I loved being out and running around in it! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Very glad that I found something make sense in reviewing perfumes THANK YOU Can you make a video on woody earthy natural accords something that you can get out of a forest ?? and another thing is apple blossom accord comes from apple trees or Cassia javanica tree ??
@@dr.claire.perfume I'm still trying to find that breath of fresh air and a mystery kind of perfume. This actually helped alot hopefully I'll find that soon!
Living where I live I basically need to be a pluviophole 😉, so no wonder that o love that smell after a summer rain. But there's nothing like the real deal, so I don’t necessarily seek it out in fragrances. However, thanks to your video and some research I now know that there is, indeed, a fragrance whose name is “Pluviophile” - it is a word I intend to add to my active vocabulary! Thanks so much for your scent education!
😂 yay! Wow! Just saying pluviophile makes me think of Latin lessons 😂 I agree, I prefer the real smell to trying to recreate it in fragrances, I don't think they are for me to wear for sure, but I do quite enjoy smelling them to see how close they are 😊 thanks for watching Andreas! I hope you enjoyed your weekend!
The old version of "Aqua fresca" from Boticário, is related to this familly smell, for sure! But has a combination of lemony/lavender/pine that gives it a more forest type scent, then an earthy one! My favorite eau de toilette. It was reformulated... unfortunely :(
I’d love to hear more from you/the community here on which ones are nicest… I purchased Demeter’s Thunderstorm, the opening of which is amazing - however the dry down makes me nauseous. I thought it might work as a nighttime bedroom freshener so tried spritzing it on my comforter but it’s strong musty dry-down was too much even then - and it LASTS so I had to wash my comforter to remove it.
Wow! That sounds unpleasant. Having tried a few petrichor fragrances now, I don't think they are for me in the main, the only one I like is un Jardin Sur le nil which isn't necessarily one of the truest examples, it just has a wet feel. I hope that helps.
Hello Claire, thank you for this interesting & smart video; 😉 You never disappoint me. I've never imagined that 'nature after rain' is so full of chemistry. I love that earthy wet smell, you can feel that the soil is just breathing. Keep up; I'd really like to watch many more science related (more serious) video on perfumes. Thank you once more❤
Thank you so much! Hopefully I can find some more topics to talk about 🙈 Yes, totally like the soil is breathing! I couldn't put it better! I hope you have a lovely weekend and thank you again for watching 😘
Very informative video Claire. This was a very in-depth video about petrichor. I will be honest enough to say you lost me at geosmos in then the 3rd trene…. You brought me back in cause then it all made sense to me. I love un jardin sur le nil, but for me it evokes more than just a feeling of rainy days so I’m guessing it has in #3. Very interesting video Claire!❤️
Geosmin is a bit if a weird one! I think it is just that earthy damp smell. But yeah the terpenes are the plant oils and I guess that's the lush green wet smell you get from plants after rain! I really want to retry all of the le Jardin line of fragrances! I've tried Sur le nil and sur la toit and Monsieur li but not the others...
Wow I learned so much from this video. Thank you! What do you think about Rain by Commodity? Would you recommend that? For me, When the Rain Stops smells a bit more masculine and not rainy enough.
Oh that's great! Thank you for watching 😊 I've not tried Rain by Commodity, sorry. When the rain stops is certainly not an easy one to love and definitely more of a green fragrance.
I learned so much from this! I had no idea and am in awe of your pronunciations 😊. I would be struggling, lol. I was really hoping to love After the Rain, but it was not quite what I was hoping for. I wanted something a little sweeter and earthier.
Yes it's definitely not sweet in the slightest is it? It's totally unforgiving, and quite green and damp/watery. I enjoyed the experience but I don't want to smell like that I don't think... Haha, but are the pronunciations actually correct 🤣🤷♀️
Ok...had no idea what Petrichor was/is.....and thank you for schooling me. It's amazing the trouble ppl go to ...to smell like ozone, wet ground and rainstorms. LOL
It's weird isn't it? I love smelling it in nature, but I don't want to smell of it when wearing perfume. I guess it's interesting and more pleasant if it's part of a composition but more subtle?!
I love the smell of petrichor in real a fragrance I own give that feel is Alaia I do have un jardín sur le nil but i don’t that smell at all is extremely green for me
I really want to try Alaïa nude but I've not tried any Alaïa. I'm not sure I like the earthy petrichor smell but I do like the fresher rain/ watery smells. Thanks for watching ❤️
Personally I don't like rain (I'm made out of sugar and I melt😸), or winter so those type of scents are a bit gloomy for me, I haven't tried any of the perfumes you mentioned but if I get a chance to and like them then I will get it, (I really like Demeter).
I think petrichor is very distinctive but I don't necessarily want to smell of it, I like the idea of it though and I enjoy smelling it as a kind of art or impression of nature if that makes sense?! I would for sure recommend thunderstorm from Demeter, Petrichor I've not smelt but I've noticed people don't seem to enjoy that one as much.

Have always loved that after the rain scent. Currently my favourite is from a Shaving Soap Company called Noble Otter. There’s a captivating wet stone scent in Hamami. Great video, going on a perfume making course later this yr where you make a scent for yourself, have been thinking I’d like to make a Petrichor scent.
Thanks! ❤️ That course sounds like it will be really interesting! I think getting the balance between something earthy and something too ozonic or aquatic is a hard one to strike though.
Certain pottery made of clay, such as water vessels (like the Mexican bottles made of clay) impart a delicious wet Adobe clay to the water. Is that petrychor?
@@dr.claire.perfume if you go to a local Mexican supermarket, in the cookware section, you will find clay bottles to be used as water vessels. The taste of water is transformed by clay into a delicious sort of grotto water :)
Tom Ford's Eau de Soleil Blanc literally smells like wet concrete after rain to me, especially on paper in the opening, I guess it's the citrus notes playing tricks on my nose, pretty sure it was not an intentional thing from the perfumer, since it's more advertised as a beachy type of scent.
Oh that's so interesting! You have got me so intrigued... Next time I'm in my local store I will go try it and see whether I can smell it too! Thank you for pointing it out. 🥰

I thought I was weird when ever I would get that smell of petrichor and never knew the name of it. I would try to explain it to people and would seek it out in fragrances - but it never smelled right. Funny enough - I found out the name "petrichor" while watching a cartoon...
Wow! Yes petrichor is that smell that no one really knows what to call 🤣 I think it's pretty hard to achieve in fragrances. I've not smelt anything that perfectly captures it. I guess it smells different depending upon where you live to a certain degree. Thanks for watching ❤️

Yes, I love petrichor, and yes, Thunderstorm captures it best (imo). I think it's a brilliant scent!
I can definitely understand wanting to wear it and be entirely surrounded by that feeling! Thanks for watching.
Finally managed to catch up on this!
Such fascinating content. As someone who failed miserably at Science in school, I’m honestly in awe as to how you manage to research and then apply your academic knowledge to fragrances. I’d never thought of science being used in perfume but of course it is! 🤦♀️
More of this series please 🙏 😘
Hey Lucinda, I hope you are having a good week! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this! Yes there is a whole world of science in perfumery... I have a more fun, less serious science video coming this Saturday hopefully... 😊 Thanks for watching again! 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume could a man wear when the rain stops
@@WhatTheFragrance I reviewed it in another video, a Maison Margiela house overview, from my sample, it's rosier than I remembered. All of the fragrances are unisex marketed.
Thank you for this lesson on the world of petrichor
No problem! ☺️ thanks for watching 🥰
That does sound good! I think straight up petrichor is a little too unfriendly for me, but a hint of something wet garden is fab 👌
Interesting science findings. Super informative 😅 loved it ! Cheers !
Happy that you enjoyed it! 😊
Thank you for doing this one! I’ve always wondered about the note of petrichor in fragrances.
Aah, no problem! I have been thinking about doing this video for about a year! 😂 That new fragrance just made me get in with it! I had no clue what was making up the petrichor smell a d I was curious to find out! ❤️
I'm fascinated and grateful at the same time. I loved this!
Thank you Julija ❤️
What used to be an evolution mainly for survival is now made present into a scent thanks to science… like how great is that ?!
Oh thanks Paola ❤️ that means a lot!
It is fab isn't it? There is so much psychology behind what we gravitate towards in fragrance.
OMG I’m obsessed with your videos ❤❤❤
Thank you Ruth! ❤️
Hi claire!
Love after rain smell 🌧🙃
Also i love green, mossy, earthy fragrances if they are well done with the right ingredients.
Curious about capturing the petrichor smell in a bottle. So thank you for your recommendations 🙏🌹
Great informative video 💞
Thank you! I think the nicest petrichor fragrances are the ones where it is subtle and just one aspect of the overall composition. I'm still looking for the one for me 😊 let me know if you have any recommendations! Thanks for watching! ❤️

Hi dear Claire ❤🥰
Sorry to be late !
Since the beginning of may, I have been overwhelmed by my work. I still teaching my master students, correcting exams and struggling with some academic deadlines 🤯
I have missed to film my perfume videos !
How very interesting! Thank you!🌸just found your channel, going through your older videos and cannot stop viewing now. Very enjoyable!
Oh thank you! ❤️ That's so lovely to read that! 🥰
Perfect timing, we've been having many thunderstorms in Dallas Texas lately. I love that scent!❤
It's a lovely scent in nature for sure. Thanks for watching 🥰
There is just something magical in the smell after it rained😍
Totally! It's magical sometimes in the summer 😍
No problem ❤️ thank you for watching 🥰 I've never tried anything from Aesop, I should check Eremia out! ☺️
I think some people truly love it! It's distinctive and striking and almost mystical in a way. I think go for it if it reminds you of home 😊
What do you wear if I may ask? I’m seeking a true petrichor scent
🦋🧡🦋
PS Our two geosmin fragrances are: CB I Hate Perfume's 402 M2 Black March, and Sucreabeile's Here's the Thing F*** Everyone.
Can I ask where you see or get these perfumes they sound interesting.x
Thanks for another enlightening video!
I don't really prefer aquatic, ozonic, watery, earthy, calone, vetiver scents. So petrichor sounds like something I can safely avoid.
Haha, me too I think. I sometimes wear watery ones or ozonic ones but straight up geosmin is probably not me. 🙂
Super intersting😻
I learn so much from your videos
Thank you! I have been meaning to make this video for a while and smelling when the rain stops just pushed me to finally do it! ❤️
I'm feeling a little ashamed that after almost 40 years on this earth, I've only just learned the term that's described the fleeting scent I've experienced all my life and long for every summer. Almost akin to marvelling at a rainbow knowing that you won't see one again for possibly another year or two.
The storms that came after our most recent heatwave brought this scent back to me, it begins in that 45 seconds when you hear the rolling thunder in the distance, the humidity plunges and you just know it's going to chuck it down any second now, and then it does, the roads and pavements slowly saturate, 3 minutes of heaven on earth and then it's gone for another year and I'm left feeling both satisfied and nostalgic thinking "if only I could bottle that feeling."
This video makes me very very happy, Thank you so very much ❤️
It's absolutely amazing isn't it?
Now I understand that there's different petrichor varieties, I can explore and won't be too dismayed if I don't find my interpretation straight away, there's a lot of pollution in London which probably adds to the composition of "my petrichor"
I have distant relatives in UP, India and so the next time I visit I'll look into getting some Mitti Attar for you to sample as I'm sure you may enjoy the rural petrichor scent more than I could appreciate as I've been a city boy my whole life.
@@Nimzzeee yes strawberry seems hard to replicate in fragrance. There are some really bad attempts out there. 🤣
And yes! Thank you! 🥰
Hi lovely! I do find the combination of moss and patchouli smelling like rain or after rain. It’s such a soothing scent in fragrances. ❤
Yes that's a classic combo isn't it?! Green, bitter, earthy and a about damp 👍
I love patchouli fragrances like Angel and Flower Bomb.x
This was so fascinating Claire, thank you so much for this video. I must love geosmin, I love the scent of a damp cellar, especially a pub cellar!

I love to sleep when it’s raining, looking beautiful Doc
It's just so relaxing isn't it?! Oh thank you Nika, you too, always 😍
I have 2 of the fragrances you mentioned. Maybe I’m into petrichor!
Wonderful video 💙
Have a blessed weekend 💖🌸
Yes, I totally get that! I had never thought about it but yes that is exactly it with the patchouli at the beginning! Thank you for making me think about that fragrance in a different way! ❤️
Thank you so much for watching too! Have a lovely weekend! 💕
Love Angel and Flower Bomb as patchouli is right there mmm.Is there any you could add I could try.xx
Yes I would love one from that range, I've tried 3 I think... They have a lovely refreshing feeling to them.
Baie 19 sounds like the perfect choice for you! What a fab scent memory! I really hope you love wearing it ☺️ thanks for watching 🥰
I know what you mean 😂 if I sniff it, I'll reply here! Thanks for watching 🥰
Brilliant video, Claire. Thank you.

This is from my Fragrantica review of it:
The best petrichor "after the rain" scent I've yet smelled.
Gosh yes! I bet you get amazing petrichor smells there! Oceania sounds really beautiful, thank you for the recommendation and review of it ❤️
Another informative video 👌🏾👌🏾

Yes it's definitely not sweet in the slightest is it? It's totally unforgiving, and quite green and damp/watery. I enjoyed the experience but I don't want to smell like that I don't think... Haha, but are the pronunciations actually correct 🤣🤷♀️
Super interesting, Claire!!!🥰🥰🥰And thanks for reminding me to break out Un Jardin Sur Le Nil!!!💚💚💚
Thanks Joss! Yes, it's a good one isn't it?! 🥰
I love that smell but had no idea it was called Petrichol !!
Me neither! 🤷♀️
Love this series!!!! ❤
Thanks Brooke! ❤️
Great info!
Thanks Maude 🥰
There is also After the Rain by Arran Aromatics. My Mum actually wears that
I need to try some Arran aromatics and Bath house stuff! That one sounds right on the money for petrichor! 😂 How appropriate is that name?!
@@dr.claire.perfume I've sent you some Bath House decants, of the 4 I own. I hope they come Monday and haven't been destroyed somewhere xx
@@ems_h.eartnotes I hope so too🤞thank you!
I love your informative videos! This is so interesting! To me Florabotanica by Balenciaga smells like a garden after rain. 😍❤️
Thank you! That's so kind! I can see that actually with florabotanica, it's got that very fresh, crisp and green feel. 🥰
I love learning videos. 😁
Thanks Tera! ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume I totally get it, that's what I love about Demeter that they capture a piece of reality in a scent.
@@silverliningfragrance1434 yes they are true to what they set out to do with their fragrances and that means they are not always easy or likeable and that is admirable.
First comment 🥰 now let me watch☺️
Thank you! ❤️
I would love to learn about OZONIC notes, witch I hate bAIt curious about 😅🤮🙏🤮❤️
Haha, I know what you mean 🤣 I love smelling things I don't like, it's so weird isn't it? ❤️
Interesting videos,I like it you got a new subscriber here 👍🏻 👌🏻
Hi Jessy! Thank you! Please let me know if you have a topic you are curious about 😉
@@dr.claire.perfume thanks I sure will !
How did I miss this video 🤦♀️
Was your sister around maybe? That sounded very stressful and like it took up a lot of headspace. 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I think it might have been around that time 🤦♀️
I need to get my nose on When the Rain Stops, I like a lot of the Replica fragrances
It felt very green and damp for me! Do you have any favourites from that line? They keep discontinuing the ones people seem to love!
@@dr.claire.perfume Bubble Bath and Whispers in the Library (also sent you decants of those) My husband loves Jazz Club and By the Fireplace. I didn't like Beach Walk or Lazy Sunday Morning which are v popular. People loved Lipstick On, and that one got discontinued
@@ems_h.eartnotes oh thank you! Yes lipstick on I was going to try, then I found out it got discontinued... 😭 I am a simple soul and enjoy flower market 😂 I tried bubble bath once and liked that, but I don't think I can judge it from one spritz, so thank you for letting me try it! 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume Flower Market and Springtime in a Park are lovely florals. Bubble Bath is great out of the shower or any time I need calming down. You're welcome, it's an absolute pleasure I had so much fun making the little decants, felt all sciencey for a minute 🤗
What are your thoughts on Ck Truth?
People claim it feels like rain
I've never tried Truth unfortunately. I've heard that too though.
This is awesome, love this series! I do enjoy rain and petricor. I didn't like the Maison margiela because I could smell the woody dry chemical ingredient. It may have been good but I couldn't get past that one feature. I wonder what those Indian perfumes are like. Intriguing. Ty so much. ❤️🧚♀️✨
Do you know what? I hear that that a lot about replica fragrances, I wonder what it is? I don't think I would ever want to own that one, but I found it interesting to sniff. I agree, I would love to see what mitti attar is like, distilling clay is such a strange but simple concept! I hope you are well, lovely to hear from you again and thanks for watching 😘
@@dr.claire.perfume I own 3 replicas so I was disappointed. I really wanted matcha meditation to work for me as well but it was really really sweet on my skin. I recently tried flower market again and I may have to get a sample of that one.
@@Tina-wi7we flower market is my favourite, I know people think it's basic but I still love that one 🤷♀️ I don't own any though, but I have some samples coming... Which others do you own?
@@dr.claire.perfume I have lipstick on, also very sweet, but I love it anyway. By the fireplace and whispers in the library.
@@Tina-wi7we aah lipstick on I think I would love! They seem to discontinue the ones that I want to try 🤷♀️
I can't wait to sniff the MMM one next time I'm in a city!
Yes! I was so so curious because of the name, I got the petrichor feeling from it but I was also not ever going to buy it if you know what I mean, my curiosity was satisfied! 🤣
Good to know wow 🤔
Petrichor is an interesting perfume experience 😉
It could be something similar, yes! I'd not heard of that, that's very interesting, it sounds along the same lines...
@@dr.claire.perfume if you go to a local Mexican supermarket, in the cookware section, you will find clay bottles to be used as water vessels. The taste of water is transformed by clay into a delicious sort of grotto water :)
@@almatoledo1608 ok, I will keep an eye out! Thank you. I went to Italy and saw a lot of grottos, they are pretty and feel like this from fairytales 🙂
@@dr.claire.perfume it's definitely an unusual scent to me, give it a try!
@@petyaivanova9629 I will!
I’m married to a scientist and I always tease him because he always has a scientific point of you for everything and anything… 😆🤣 Thanks to you now I can talk about my perfumes in a more intellectual way! Maybe I’ll catch his attention… he doesn’t really care about my collection other than it takes too much space in the wardrobe! 😆😆😆 😉
🤣 LOL sounds like my husband, he is so fed up that most surfaces in the bedroom now are covered in fragrance 🤣 he isn't a scientist though... Ooh, what does your husband work on?! 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume he works in remote sensing of environment… water, ice, agriculture… don’t ask me more! He’s also a teacher and supervises students doing their PhDs and masters degrees… he works for an university and since we talk about his work in French, I don’t have the technical words here! 😅🤣 Oops!
@@julieg_quebec-julesselivre8641 haha! Well you know more about his work than my husband would ever know about mine 🤣
I live in a big city so I get 4-5 times a day the Terpenes of Cannabis the neighbors that live below me puffin and coughing 😹😹
Yes, our old neighbours loved a bit of a smoke too! I know exactly what you mean 🤣 the smell is very distinctive! 🤣
How much price
It's going to depend on where you are, where you buy from and which you are choosing. Thanks for watching 🥰
I bought the Demeter one, cause I love the smell of Petrichor, it smelled AWFUL, I even felt sick when wearing it
I like the smell of petrichor in nature, but I don't think I want to smell like that myself.
❤
🥰
I love beetroots 🧡🧡 but they do smell like sweaty socks of teenagers🤷♀
Yes the fresh ones have a really distinctive and slightly off putting pong to them 🤣 I make a hazelnut and beetroot cake sometimes and it looks as if I've stabbed something, the cake mix is so red and bright!
@@dr.claire.perfume Sound delicious🤤, I have a juicer for hard fruits and veg and sometimes I juice beets (I hate cleaning the juicer so I rarley use it) and it looks like a murder scene plus if you don't clean it fast it stains like crazy. It's way easier to clean blood😏
@@silverliningfragrance1434 🤣 I won't ask how you know that! 🤣 Yes beetroot makes such a mess! They also dye my hands purple!
