      @justhoodiesthings I feel like people are too hard on Izumi. She tried so hard, harder than literally anyone else there, and they’re all just kids. It’s not like this was a murder mystery, this was milo Murphy’s law cranked to X. Some of these deaths I didn’t see coming. The real problem is that she didn’t have a stable partner to correct her when she needed it. Kouichi and Mei had each other’s backs, and they honestly didn’t hide or run from death, therefore they were actually living. So death never actually came for them. The idea of there being an extra teacher imo was the show cheating, cause they never even brought that up as a possibility so nobody would’ve guessed such a thing. Also the teacher being Kouichis aunt too was deliberately hid from us so any clue about her being dead at all was completely uprooted out of any context it would’ve fit in. There’s also no possibility presented that it could be a family member either, so the mystery part of this otherwise gem of a show was a cheap shot.

    Though we can't deny Izumi's incompetence at all, we can't put all the blame to her either.
    They actually adapted that 'ignore one person' charm only from the previous years. But it didn't work bcs their case isn't compatible with that solution, since the dead extra is not a 'STUDENT'.
    Their ignorance leads them to more deaths, but you can't fully blame them.

    • @Stigmatix666
      @Stigmatix666 2 роки тому +5

      That's not it at all. They adapted the "ignore one student" charm on May the first, but the fact remains that Misaki Fujioka (Mei's twin sister) died due the curse in April.. In other words, the whole ordeal was futile as it was implemented too late.
      And you can most certainly blame them for not telling Koichi a damn thing and then get mad at him for talking to Mei. Do they think he's a mind reader??
      Mei should of course have told them about her sister, but I doubt they would have listened to her at all.
      The class doesn't like Mei, something that's very clear. She has no friends, except for Koichi himself. And as far as they're concerned, she's always been an only child. If she'd start talking about Misaki Fujioka, they would most likely think she was lying and trying to get out of the ordeal of being invisible..

    But Misaki's supposed cousin was actually her twin sister. They had a plot point where Koichi meets Misaki's mother and he notices that she regards her daughter like she was a stranger. It was later revealed that that Misaki's mother had a daughter who was stillborn but she had a sister who conveniently had identical twins so she adopted one and that became Misaki. Years later the twins learn of each other and meet up, however, no one else knew Masaki had an identical twin sister. So part of Izumi's issue was that she had seen Misaki's twin, but thought it was Misaki herself. Because she comments to that one student that gets hung to death in the Cluster Fuck that was a the class trip that she remembered seeing Misaki with two eyes. So they come to the theory that Misaki must be the ghost but she has been reborn half-formed.

    • @Life-Sky
      @Life-Sky 3 роки тому +7

      Yes but Izumi doesn't know it, she is taking the wrong decision by letting them talk to the person that is supposed to dissappear. The Extra was in the teacher's clasroom, but there was one extra (her "countermeasures") so that left one extra in the clasroom as well.

    • @Stigmatix666
      @Stigmatix666 2 роки тому +1

      No. That is incorrect.
      Everything starts with Mei's sister dying, in April, as she was the first victim of the curse. Reiko was obviously already assistant teacher at that point, since *nothing* points to the contrary. And it's perfectly in line with "one extra person infiltrating the class", in this case: Reiko Mikami.
      The school year in Japan starts in April, after all.
      They implemented the charm of "making one student invisible" in May, one month after Mei's sister dying. Fault #1.
      They didn't say a damn thing about any of this to Koichi, as Akazawa flat out forbade them to. And they got mad at him for not reading their minds. Fault #2.
      Mei should definitely have come forward with the fact that her sister was the first victim. Even though nobody would probably believe her.. Fault #3.
      But Akazawa is definitely the one who bears most of the blame here. But Mei does bear some responsibility herself.
      However, regarding Mei's situation. As far as the rest of the class is concerned, she's an only child. She clearly has no friends either. If she'd started talking about her sister dying in April, due to the curse, I'm pretty sure no-one would have believed her.
      Class 3-3 was doomed from the start this year.

      1) Sometimes the charm works, sometimes it doesn’t, this year it didn’t work, every year someone connected to class 3-3 who died comes back for the year, the curse happens to balance out the students. It’s because of 26 years prior to the events of another.
      2) Mei said that the dead person has a physical body, a soul, and their memories of when they were alive, but not their real death, so Reiko thinks she’s still alive. The one who was driving was the dead aunt.
      3) Kouichi was there a half a year ago because his aunt died, he was there for her funeral, and he met Izumi there. The next year everyone’s memories are altered. I guess it’s for foreshadowing, and to explain why she thought he was there before.

    Ugh, couldn't stand this anime. I read the book before I saw the show and holy hell, did they compress the damn thing down. Too many characters, not enough development, the curse made absolutely no sense (and I watched the whole thing three times trying to see if I missed something), the twist at the end was an ass pull that didn't match the past pattern at all, and if Izumi had just done her freaking JOB, the entire anime wouldn't have happened. How hard is it to explain to the new guy what the rules are? You don't even need to hammer it in. Just explain the damn rules! If the plot demands him to break them, then he'll break them, but at least you'll have done your job and the blame shifts away from you! Izumi is seriously one of the worst characters I've ever come across in anime, and I'm usually forgiving to anime characters and their blunders. But the way her decisions (or rather lack of them) led to the slew of stupidity that had me yelling at my screen, I just can't do it. Go to hell, Izumi

      The status of the dead person came out of nowhere. For as long as the curse has been in effect, it's been consistent, the same signs every year. No changes otherwise. The students at least have that to look for. This year, THIS freaking year, the ONE year when the main character is in the class, the signs change, throwing everyone off balance entirely. And since the revelation came out of nowhere and seemed to serve only to hurl a few red herrings at us in the final couple of episodes, and throw suspicion off the one and only conclusion as to who the dead person could VERY OBVIOUSLY BE WITHOUT THIS TEENY BIT OF CRUCIAL INFORMATION, it just came off as a copout. Think about it; if we'd known ahead of time where the sign had moved to, we'd have known from episode one who the dead person probably was. But of course we can't be given that information or the mystery is pointless. If the author is trying to imply that the curse is a sentient being, that flops too. What this thing is makes no sense, how it works if not consistently makes no sense (and I'm sure the characters would agree with me here) and the plot twist would've made the entire story obvious from the getgo if they'd revealed where the new sign of the dead person was this year instead of where it normally was.

    Love the video. Hey Duo, when you mention 'dumb as the town that still even allows these kids to go to a school like this in the first place?' I think I have an idea of why they do it or could be wrong in the end.
    "The curse is able to adapt and grow stronger over time and could possibly instead of a just school building it could affect the entire town." Here is why? The curse is already capable of following the students and family where ever they go. It was capable of moving from class to class. And this year instead of the classroom it moves to the teacher's office space. As you know students cannot ignore a teacher especially during teaching. Making the students acknowledge the person that is to be ignored.
    I imagine the townsfolks or someone in charge brought the help of who knows about curses in and asked for the person or them advice. This person would tell them that this curse could grow to affect the town if it is isolated now in a single area. This area would be the school building and if there is a chance to end the curse it would be 50% - 50%. By ignoring the old high school building it could end there or overtime it starts to the surrounding buildings near the school. Slowly going outside affect business and families. Now you would have to worry about who is it not just at the school but at your home and workplace too? Everyone would become paranoid and distrustful of each other. The town would have to be ignored and all the people who lived there would become isolated and outcast. Or I'm wrong and just over thinking it.

    Well i can see where this theory is coming from but the curse started before Kouichi joined class 3 with the death of Misaki's cousin and the death of Ritsuko (I think she died at the start of the year making her the first victim, if not please correct me). And i can understand that her death might have been not related to the curse, but Izumi's counter measure is logical considering that they thought the curse was avoided so when another student was added to the roaster making him non existent would set the number of student back to the "safe" amount. But then again this all doesn't matter since the dead person was a teacher. Still a great theory

      Ritsuko was Koichi's mother who died after his birth, 15 years earlier. She was a victim of the curse as well, btw. Reiko, his aunt and teacher, died a year and a half before the story even starts, and her death had nothing to do with the curse. The first victim this year was Mei's sister, and that happened prior to the task of "making one student invisible", which is the reason it was futile. It was too late, as it already had begun. The fact that the teacher was the extra is completely irrelevant.
      What *is* relevant is that Akazawa forced her ideas on the rest of the class and forbade everyone to even tell him what was going on. Akazawa is completely inept as the head of countermeasures!

    I think you are a bit harsh on Izumi, because you already break the charm when telling that they are intentionally ignoring a specific student (and therefore confirming the existence of that student -> breaking the charm). Ofc we know that this never mattered in the show since the curse started already with the death of Misaki's twin sister - but Izumi couldn't know that. A lot of Izumis wrong decisions are more because of simple lack of available knowledge, not because of plain stupidity. Also if you want to blame someone for the large pile of deaths, its Misaki - unlike Izumi, Misaki knew the things needed to act preventively. She withheld the crucial information that her twin-sister died, a very important information that could have shown the others that the curse was already active before any new student arrived. She also kept the info of who the dead one was at the mansion. The anime could have easily ended there (especially with bringing the mystery ambience of the 1st act back) but plot said "more gory deaths". The only bad thing about this anime that it demanded from so many characters to be stupid and even withholding of crucial information in order to get the plot going, unlike for example the classic "Death Note", where its completely the opposite.

What if the extra student has a twin, cousin, or other family member working at the school then what happens, we can also see that for some reason the memory altering can't affect animals, as the bird is always saying poor Reiko, which means it remembers the family being sad that Reiko died, thus why she doesn't like the bird, but that also brings up the question, does it also alter the memory of babies and toddlers? What about like new born babies like what if one of the students moms was pregnant and gave birth would the babies memory get altered, could in theory Pregnant people die (sounds weird but) we know that usually 1-2 people die in a month, but wouldn't a pregnant person count as 2-4 people (4 would be triplets), could a fetus die whilst a pregnant family member stay alive?? Will the curse alter the memory of family members in a coma, or family members with alzheimers or other memory loss conditions, and finally let's say a student died and returned as the extra what if like their younger sister moved into the city would she get her memory altered as soon as she entered the city or would she be fine

    Go read the manga or the novel of another, in this one Izumi doesn't make stupid choices, the class representative simply coordinates the debates with the class, the ideas are general according to the problem and are chosen unanimously most of the time (moreover izumi like many people doesn't die in the novel) the animation studio just botched the work: moreover your video isn't really a theory but rather a criticism towards a character

      Izumi doesn't make stupid choices in the manga?? She's completely blinded by her own arrogance ands spite in the manga. She's a much more likable character in the anime.
      And in the book, she's basically a filler character who almost adds nothing to the plot.

    Small nitpick but the school actually changed the classroom and name and even building but it’s just the third class of that school. Also since all the deaths are seemingly accidental or suicide and the deaths don’t happen every year the curse isn’t really taken too seriously for the higher ups.
    Also murder of students doesn’t count towards the curse. The curse kills 1-2 or so a month but most of the mansion deaths weren’t accidental or mind altering.

  • @ForgedinPrint
    @ForgedinPrint 5 років тому +3

    I would like to say one thing though, I wouldn't call most of the deaths at the house part of the curse and here's why. If I recall (I watched it in 2016 so it's been a while) the deaths took place because they were just murdering each other rather than the curse. I would call that more human reaction to the curse rather than the curse itself.

    • @duoreview7492
      @duoreview7492  5 років тому +1

      I think the issue is that firstly, several of the deaths actually still just end up being due to extraneous circumstances (fire knocking pillars and debris onto people, getting tangled in random wires, ect), while the others more often then not are due to a character going crazy just suddenly, which seems like it could also be a part of the curse. Remember, the teacher ended up offing his mother and himself due to the curse mentally messing with him, so it's very likely the curse was involved in 90% of the deaths.

    • @ForgedinPrint
      @ForgedinPrint 5 років тому +2
