I really like the show but I just kept wondering the entire time, why didn't Mei just tell everyone who the dead person was before so many of the people died in the last episode, about her eye and everything. Yeah, she doesn't like "sharing" information but letting so many people die??
Its not like that, eventhough if misaki knew who the extra one was she didn't know that "send the dead back to death" would stop this until she went for the trip. But it was too late before everyone found out the tape and ran for each others lives. But atlast she finds her opportunity to end it.
They didn't know about the whole "Send the dead back to the dead meaning" yet so even if she did tell them it probably would not have done any good.
Also the dead one was kouichi's aunt the one person who raised him like a son after his bio mom died after giving birth to him and he thought of her a a mother so how exactly is she supposed to tell him?(I'm pretty sure Mei explained in the last episode when he asks her why she didn't say anything)
Prob because mei didn’t wanna tell him and everybody is supposed to ignore her and also who would believe that the teacher was the dead one
One theory I have about this is that she wasn't sure if her ability really worked. When she saw the "color of death" on her sister, I guess she only thought it was a fluke and wanted to make sure it was real which was why she wanted to see the pictures of the past class 3 batches

I actually really liked Another. The part where it was explained was an interesting subversion that caught me off guard. The clues led the audience to expect the typical horror story and then once a character is actually able to explain it to the MC it established the basis for a new unique horror story.
I also disagree that it goes too far away from the psychological roots. As the situation slowly deteriorates shit starts happening as you’d expect would happen. The initial casual atmosphere, disbelief and shock, desperation then panic makes sense. Some characters’ courage lasts longer than others and it would make sense for the teacher who dealt with it every year to snap and kill themselves eventually.
I also liked how little information besides the broad theories were given. Even their best countermeasure has barely more than a 50% chance of working and their backup was pointless without them being able to realize it was pointless. At the end of the day the overall mystery still exists even if the basics are explained as they logically would be in that situation.
The ending was if not well done at least reasonable. The conflict happened because of the already extremely desperate and anxious mood (which was build through occasional random tragedies) combined with a previous plot point being revealed mixed with an inaccurate theory pieced together with guesses (like most of the countermeasures). At the end of the day if you or a loved one could die at any moment and you found a way to stop it and the authority on the problem told you exactly how you would probably do it. Even then most of the students didn’t even engage in the violence as you’d expect of kids.
Overall a pretty decent show.

Agreed but the only disregard is that Mei knew it 'quite a time' yet she decided to not tell anyone, even knowing that it would prevent deaths. Moreover the reasoning behind it, given in the show was absurd. Another doubt about another is that the curse is pretty well known to the school... So why have they not tried to end class 9-3?? Like have only two sections and/or simply close the the school after class 8?? Money priorities as an escape goat for lives?
Clues are
1. "Misaki Mei" name (見崎鳴, specially 鳴, the context of the Kanji; and Mei explanation on how to write her name). Mei's name can lead directly to the source. (One question for you "What's the mystery at the beginning?")
2. The call with Sakakibara's father (the context of their messages when interferences happen)
3. Rei-chan speech (bird)
[どうして、どうしてレイーちゃん ---- 元気、元気出してね]
4. The information about the Art-Club (It can be related to Clue 2 and 6)
5. Fragmented scenes (pictures that appear along with the anime)
6. Information about the curse (the info itself and what Sakakibara saw on the notebook of 1996)
7. Mochizuki's feeling (The way Mochizuki acts near some people)
8. Akazawa's feeling
9. The motive Izumi Akazawa has, to lead the countermeasure (Why she is the only one that actively wanted to lead the countermeasure? It's related to Sakakibara's look at the notebook)
10. Akazawa Izumi's memories of Kouichi.
I was writing the link between all of this, but it would take 1 hour or 2 (it's a lot of text to explain), so I stopped. Now that I gave you the clues, you can do it by yourself.
There are a lot of ways to solve the problem with different relations amongst the clues (depends on how much info you gathered of a clue).
Some approaches (from the most difficult to the less)
Mei Approach: 1 Only (It's super difficult to think of doing It and infer what you've got, after doing it there are more "steps")
Ambient Approach: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (It's super difficult to gather info)
Izumi Approach: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 (Difficult)
Mochizuki Approach: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (Difficult)
General Approach: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (Difficult)

The answer to your first question is simple (but a bit long), Mei likes Kouichi more than friends (I have signs of it) and doesn't want to hurt him (I have signs of it too). She knows how much he has an appreciation for Reiko. He sees Reiko as his mother, you can notice that when he kills Reiko and he says "さ よ な ら お 母 さ ん" which means goodbye mother.
Mei knew that Kouichi's mother had died (Kouichi says it in the sixth episode when they leave the home of Yukiyo, Mei's mother) and she didn't want Reiko to die (Kouichi's "mother" would be taken from him a second time). She separates from Kouichi to try to kill Reiko without Kouichi knowing (probably hoping that he would forget) after realizing that there would be no way to end the curse without killing the dead. The problem is she isn't able to do it behind Kouichi's back, then she accepted his call, he went there and killed Reiko.
In other words, feeling of "love" - plus - feeling of not wanting to hurt the beloved was what made her not want to kill the dead one, I'd say that "Love" is a very plausible argument for doing or not doing something, look at the many insane things that were already made in the world because of love.
Well, how do I know that she really thinks of him that way and acts accordingly? The proof of this is in episode 12 (final) after all what happened, Kouichi asks Mei why he couldn't find "connection" with her cell phone when he tried to call from the hospital, she reveals that she threw her cell phone away (remember that she has that sentence about being connected to others being bad? She, based on the context, threw away the cell phone because the "connection" between them by the cell phone caused Kouichi pain. After all, it was the connection that allowed him to reach Mei and have to kill Reiko). We agree that, although possible, Mei (or anyone) is less likely to act that way for someone she feels like a friend, this type of action would be more logical if it were for love (remembering that she could lie to Kouichi or not answering the phone when he called, it would make more logic for her not to do any of these actions if she loved him because she wouldn't want to "betray" him in any way). Also, there are more scenes from the final episode (phrases, faces) that help in this idea that she likes him. In addition to songs like "Shizuka ni" and "Kousai" that are sung by Mei and Kouichi that also help in this "connection" of both loving each other. (there are still scenes from the manga that help with that)
I believe that you have thought of them having a friendship (or maybe even a little more than that) but not coming to love, which would explain all the actions more credibly.

The second question answer is: you're misunderstanding how the curse works and how It was made (someday I will answer that, but now It's 02:48 AM here and I spent 3 hours making some explanations about Another)
Me too, I really like the tiny bits of information.
Maybe for others, it's maybe confusing bcs the plot isn't goes to what they expect, but that's the beauty of this anime.

It had some pretty good animation for an anime around its time. None of the stuff wouldn’t have really happened if the Mc was told about the curse.

If he was told about the curse, then it would include them telling him to ignore mei, which would acknowledge her existence, hence there's no way to tell him about the curse properly. If they only knew it has already started and it was safe to tell him either ways, maybe it could've gone a lil' better. Idk xD
Yeah, I’ll be honest, the first death affected me, but none of the deaths after really did. And all of the people with the name “Misaki” REALLY got me confused.
I think because the first death was just very shocking and was pretty much the 3rd worst in the anime the ones after it wasnt really that shocking but was sad but i really never felt shocked

the thing that bothered me was that THEY JUST CHILLED IN A BURNING BUILDING FOR SO LONG WITHOUT CHOKING OR GETTING BURNT ..... like bruh thats FIRE

It's not him. It's just a random killer.
There's a theroy that it was Izumi's brother. That he killed Reiko thinking she was the extra, then killed himself after he found out that everyone still remembered her. It's only connected by the idea of the killer smiling (thinking they stopped the calamity) and Izumi asking her dead brother on how he could be so stupid (him committing suicide). In the end there won't be a definitive answer.
My Rating For Another:
I just loved this stuff it keeps your mind guessing at what’s gonna happen next and it always keeps you on the edge of your seat just waiting. I just finished the anime for the first time 2 days ago.
I give it a 8.0/10, I definitely would watch it again. Most certainly was not disappointed with what the anime had to offer.
Weak points-The protagonist knew that something was up, but he still associated and poked his nose around.(which I can understand why)
-The countermeasures team should’ve done their job and alerted the mc about the curse. Instead of just ignoring the situation. But by then it was already too late when people started to die.
The funny thing is if the previous theory I did on Another is correct, then the chief of countermeasures did a worse job than you could even imagine. XD

There are tons of clues throughout. But they sidetrack and distract you completely in the beginning by leading you to believe that Mei Misaki is the ghost of Misaki from 26 years ago..
theres a bunch of clues, they even show them again the final episode, this youtuber didnt rewatch it before making the video and came with this "theres no clues" pearl, while also clickbaiting a review video as a theory to bait likes

I'm still wondered why Mei won't just write on the blackboard after Misaki's death. Like, "my cousin/twin sister just died. Maybe the calamity already started idk"
She said she "just didn't want to believe the THING killed her." But it is very stupid. Mei has a very uncaring attitude when it comes to life and death.
I think most of the deaths were played well enough, the only one that literally made me burst out laughing was after the chandelier falls, one lone student survives protected by his fellow dead students bodies, only to run for the exit and a pillar collapses on top of him and I swear I heard the looney tunes music in my brain

i thought the grandpa hating funerals was because he's so old and has seen so many, and I didnt catch him saying "... Reiko"

She *did* try to kill Reiko basically on the spot after hearing the tape. Prior to that, she had no idea that this was the way to end the curse. And also don't forget how heavy this weighed on her because Reiko was Koichi's aunt. She had serious struggles regarding this..

1)It's bad luck, the reason why they are supposed to die it's because they literally attracts death to that class and since death wants that dead person but no one says who is the dead person, it simply kills off everyone until it's get the correct.

True, I think this anime was really good and I also think that the ending was pretty logical actually.
Another is one of the really underrated series and also one of the series that have shit opening but perfect horror story

Shit opening?! What the actual fuck, it is the best opening I have ever seen, at about the same level as Fate/Zero's opening.
I disagree with you that it is a perfect horror story. I consider the story trash. The characters are really dumb. The deaths also made no sense and doesn't help on solving the mystery. The characters are also not memorable.
Another thing that keeps me coming back with this anime is the fact of how the cycle will never be broken. The only way to avoid the curse is ignoring one student, finding and killing the extra person (the ghost) in class, going to the shrine in the mountains with the class, or move away as far as possible from the town. But in the end there is no true way to win or even survive
Ignoring the pre-assigned non-existent student doesn't always guarantee the calamity won't happen. I think Mei should use her power for a good cause though to identify the dead person every new school year to prevent the calamity from happening.
Free WIFI well that does sound useful but a good fact I want to point out once you graduate your memories rapidly fade, so Mei wouldnt remember the fact her eye can see ghosts.The calamity purposely wants to ensure no one can do anything to stop it in anyway shape or form. In the manga actually a detective starts to get curious and piece it together but by the end he gets nowhere and no real answers only for the cycle to start again
@@Nogdog945 I haven't read the manga so I'm not sure about the little details not included in the anime. I just wonder, Mei had her artificial eye since she was four, when did she start seeing colors around people who'll die or are dead? Another thing, the school actually remembers about the curse that a dead person is among Class 3 students, thus the unusual set up for the said class. What they don't know/won't remember, and I believe should remain thus, was how to stop the calamity. If Mei, who has memories about the curse but forgets about the important details, with her ability intact, she could at least pin point the anomaly. However, with that said, I think without knowing how to stop it will still not guarantee that identifying the dead person alone could prevent the calamity.
Moving away from the town is still not possible. Remember how he used to be from another school out of town but for some reason, not including family ties, he still came back in town.

There's the biggest problem with Another anime when I ever watched a bit and making me no sense:
1. Kazumi blames Kouichi for Yukari's death even though he is not a dead person, then he killed two classmates when he goes nuts after that.
2. Takako also went nuts when she watches in horror over Junta's death. For the reason that she attempts to kill Mei with her long knife after stabbing Kouichi.
3. Yumi, on the other hand, goes nuts after he blames Kouichi after her brother's death.
4. Keiko became totally insane when she and her husband found out that Ikuo is dead, and then she killed him for that.
5. Izumi went so crazy when she heard about the deaths, then she decided to kill Mei and Kouichi.
I just feel like they are getting controlled by a curse. That's why they become insane after watching and realising someone's death.

What really sold this anime for me was the beach episode. Like... Every anime good or bad has one, and of course it felt out of place in this anime. The fact that one of the characters were slowly dying of a brain hemorrhage makes the peace and joy in that episode a potent weapon. But I do agree with you that the overall ending is kinda dumb.
i really liked the beach episode. it draws you in and you think it will be a slight change in tone, and you get to see the kids be happy for a bit.
and then the boat comes.
Hey Man, nice video. As somewhat of an Another nerd i find some issue with your points. Firstly the mystery of the dead one is solvable early one. Mostly through the Parrot, the grandfather , father phone call, the extra desk situation, the fact we are told that the Calamity effects anyone tied to the class including teachers and a few others. Secondly, in regards to the lack of mystery in the 2/3 part of the series, the mystery of how to prevent the calamity was present but i do see what you mean. But i believe this was done for a reason, a calm before the storm, as the episodes start to give personality to some of the students, the beach episode being a prime example. It also functioned as a way of scaring the students, showing them that they couldn't escape the calamity (even though they technically could as the injury that resulted in his death happened before leaving the town). Thirdly in the final act, death is done by the students out of desperation, the natural urge to survive and the effects of the calamity, the students not sharing the tape with the rest of the class, then to later on have everyone learn the way to end the calamity really sows the seeds for emotional distrust causing the utter gore fest. In the utter shit show your watching people die for them to try and figure out who is the dead one. You as a audience member trying to figure out as suspects drop like files. Its living up to what the calamity is in the show and in real life. "an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster." . Not to mention we are shown during the tape flashback what the calamity can be like. It would be a terrible build up for there to be one or two deaths and be like we got em guys. The stakes needed to be raised to solve this with urgency as lifes were on the line, this works with the fact that the class believe Mei to be the extra. This causes the students to act, especially after we learn through Izumi about Mei's twin sister going to her old school, not having a glass eye and having died. Further people believing her to be the extra one who came back incomplete building up a sense of tension. During Izumi's death we get a flashback of Izumi with a younger Kouichi showing that he had been to Yomiyama before (minus the time as a baby) putting doubt on our main charter who has had nightmares about him being another but builds on the point that the two had meet before. This is used as both a read herring and a clue to figure out who the dead one is, using this information during the flashback and the other clues we actually can deduce the dead one is someone related to Kouichi and thus his aunt but since she would have to be connected to the class. Which would lead you to the similar looking Ms. Mikami. Sure its not obvious but it works a lot better being difficult to solve as it makes the difficult task of Kouichi killing the extra more emotional. If the extra one was easily solvable it wouldn't be merely as interesting and would be critiqued for being to predicable and seen miles away. Us an audience made it difficult to solve, we assume its one of the students as we are straight only given examples of the extra ones being students, we know it effects all those in Class 3-3 and its even highlighted to us through the death of the teacher, which is built on further by the librarian who doesn't involve himself with the class as his involvement would mean he would become part of the calamity. Death was done to keep us guessing, ruling out suspects meanwhile the culprit was in front of us all along. Lastly i don't think another is unfocused, it does change from different horror but i don't think that makes it unfocused, it keeps it interesting. If it relied too much on one or even two types of horror it would of gotten dull quick. It was the change of pace that keeps it interesting, i admit in a few places its done horribly and i know another isn't perfect. But in other places the shift in horror worked, in the beginning the deaths really had impact and the mystery around what was going on built tension subtly, the we shift into the 2nd act, the students have hope and the show uses false sense of security as horror. Making a bleak and eerie atmosphere contrasting the sense of hope our protagonists get with there breakthroughs as well as building bonds between the students after out right ignoring the Mei and Kouichi to a less extent. Then in the final act we are throw into utter chaos, that builds up we don't know what to think. We enter this gore and emotional affair as we see the effects the calamity has had on the sanity of some of the students and with the librarian driving away, the students are left to fend for themselves. Sure the horror isn't consistent but i think it mirrors that of the calamity in the sense of you can't predict who, what, where and when something is going to happen, its unpredictable. Agreed but the only disregard is that Mei knew it 'quite a time' yet she decided to not tell anyone, even knowing that it would prevent deaths. Moreover the reasoning behind it, given in the show was absurd. Another doubt about another is that the curse is pretty well known to the school... So why have they not tried to end class 9-3?? Like have only two sections and/or simply close the the school after class 8?? Money priorities as an escape goat for lives?

So first, I should not that I was entertained by Another the entire way through, It was more a case of missed potential for me personally.
Second, while I'm not a fan of the anime per say, the game is actually a really well made experience. It's just a bit too depressing for me to want to play through it again. XD

I think the issue is more that the anime only had 4 episodes for a fairly long game. It skipped out on a lot of details which the game went over.
True but you take what you can get as a corpse party fan i guess any way the manga does the story more justice if you ever considered checking that out

I loved that show still though. It kept me invested and I'm one for unexpectedness, and because it changed so quickly it kept me not knowing what was going to happen, and actually, if you watch and pay close attention to the show there is a whole horror string going on and staying in place, there are also plenty of other unexplained and horror mysteries to be solved in that show, so overall id say it was wonderful.

I never actually saw the anime but I read the manga, which has AWESOME drawing. That’s kinda what stops me, the graphics of the anime aren’t as good as I would’ve liked them to be..
Plus, the manga is super short (4 books), which is really cool because it keeps the suspense going at pretty regular speed.

Overall I did enjoy another, it was an interesting thing to see.
Oh yeah the show was still entertaining, I just think the last third really should've returned to the style of horror present in the first third.

I personally really liked another. It doesn’t matter to me what kind of horror a show try’s to go for as long as the story is good and I thought was pretty interesting. My only problem with is it that it was short, I liked the characters and it would’ve been nice to see more of them.

I actually liked this anime but when I finished watching it I realized I don't remember a single character's name.
Ikr the only name I remember is "Misaki"
It just left me dumbstruck in the end. Like she could've just uncovered her eye and stopped all the deaths... I absolutely loved this anime in the beginning and now I have to look for another mystery horror anime show. :(
The main problem is that the class starts to kill without any conversation. I mean, it is the same class that knows that people will die and don't change school, instead they are planning. And áll of a sudden...

@@alhassanlol7023 The fact is that unfortunately the anime didn't completely make it easy to understand. So, the first Misaki, the one who shows up in the photo as a ghost in the ending of the manga it reveals that he's still stuck on Earth, walking around the school. So that means that the curse didn't completely stop. There aren't many details explained about the curse and how to really stop. Since the students acknowledged his existence out of grief it was like Misaki _did_ come back after all, as a ghost.
And right then all this chain death reactions began. The same fact that those students altered their memories as the fact that Misaki was "still" there with them changed everything. The only way to probably make the curse full stop completely is to burn/close the school, or simply banish Misaki in the afterlife, somehow, since that this kind of seems that it's like his presence causing everything. In the anime ending just wanted to let the next students know how to stop the curse without killing each other and speaking to themselves, but honestly, I don't really think that will work. I think that the chain death reaction will happen anyway since Misaki Yomiyama presence is still walking with them.

Deaths towards the end were definitely less impactful than the beginning but still quite creative in ways people get killed.

ALERT SPOILERS:
The thing is that that year was very different from others because of the way the calamity acted. First of all, in this case the added one wasn't a student as usual. Secondly, since they all went dumb after hearing the tape, they just killed themselves, thus the calamity had no mercy. Remember 15 years ago there were three deaths in one day (counting the dead one, killed by Matsunaga), so it wouldn't be the first time the calamity overpassed his limits (about killing one person per month). Finally, the parts are really synchronized: You don't know what is that calamity until he shows some episodes later its true power. I think the manga and anime could have been longer to have more insight about the background or even the characters, but it's already fine like that.
Btw the beach episode (nº8) was just to get to know a little bit better the characters. This episode doesn't take place in the manga, so it's actually fanservice.
But the ending is kinda meeeed up because there is no end to this curse but I always wondered why didn’t they burn the school if there’s no class 3 that means there’s no spirit

6:16 (mild spoilers warning, just in case lol) actually, we've been told the entire time who the dead person is by small hints - them forgetting things, not knowing much about the past, spacing out, the way they talk. i only noticed while rewatching it, and i found this particular mystery very well-done. if the viewer actually tries to piece things together and thinks outside the box, they could actually find out by themselves who the dead one is. just, yknow, giving my two cents on it;; i havent finished the video yet, but its great overall!! keep up the great work :D

I disagree with the beach episode that u mention. You said it was kinda stoping the plot in a way but I felt that was a peaceful episode watching everyone from the class enjoying themselves atleast for that moment despite the calamity . I just think it was giving some kind of build up for the inevitable ending.
I really feel like Mei should’ve told everyone, but I also understand why she probably couldn’t. Not only is she still a young teen, but she’s dealing with the grief of losing her twin. And she was already ‘chosen’ for that year, so even if she did speak up no one would pay attention. Aside from all that, I’m at least glad she told Sakakibara…but that’s most likely because he’s new, and no one bothered to tell him anything.
Which is another part of the issue - if they would’ve simply told him from the beginning, things most likely would’ve went more smoothly and they couldn’t have any excuse to blame Mei or Sakakibara for the events/deaths.

I really liked ‘another’ tbh, I agree to the fact that the character didn’t find the secrets themselves and that it was rather shown to the viewer itself but I prefer that because you know….when you try to keep the mysteries for long….the show really just gets slow and boring. So, I prefer shows where there is both mystery and solution shown proportionately. There were clues to who the dead person was, but they were short and so no one really paid attention but I think that’s the fun about it because in the end, it’s the details you are suppose to notice to put your faith on who you think is the suspect. So, I would rate this show a 7.5/10 because I still had lingering doubts in my mind that might as well get clarified if I watch it for the second time.
Oh, right... Another is a horror anime... Honestly I even forgot it was classified as horror. I enjoyed the anime but I wouldn't call it horror

Yeah, only the anime had wanton death in the last third. The light novel and manga only had roughly a handful of deaths in the climax.
It's hard to fill airtime tbf. Netflix and streaming hadn't been commonplace so you couldn't shorten a series to eight or ten episodes yet. Or four in Housing Complex C's case.
The things i wanna know is whats with the shrine and why was the deaths more rapid when they preyed to it and how the curse started

_A few things that bothered me was the god awful timings of things and normalizations. What I mean by that is during the dinner at the class trip, when the guy had an asthma attack no one apparently knew there wasnt any reception to call for help INCLUDING THE STAFF. I think the crazy managers cut the reception when they got there but cmon it shouldve been at least one person noticing the lack of reception prior. And my biggest problem is during the end of all the fallout, Sakaki in the middle of a heavily burning building decides "oh let me take my phone out and call Misaki" and isnt bothered by the extreme temperatures AT ALL. Why did they even let Sakaki run back in the building in the first place? This show was good but couldve been so much better._

I still don't understand the origin of the curse. Did it just happen one day for no reason?
They explain in the very beginning of the series: There was a student who died that was so well liked that the students in that class started to pretend he was still around them in class, the teacher, and even the school staff agreed to play along and also pretended that he was still with them. They even included him in the graduation ceremony and then, when they looked at the group photo taken during the graduation ceremony, they noticed that he actually appeared in the group photo. That started the curse.
The way I understand it: basically they opened a door around that class that allows the deceased to visit them but death wants the deceased back, so if death notices that the deceased is missing it will take others until it finds the one missing, or until the one missing returns on it's own. They ignore a volunteer, to try to trick death and prevent it from becoming aware that there is one extra person in that class.

Another was one of my favorite animes in middle school. I watched it for the first time when I was 12 or 13 and it’s the only anime that I’ve rewatched more than 5 times. As I got older, the anime kept hitting different each time but at the same time, it still remains a classic to me

Oh boy, another Another theory. After seeing this, it helps me realize why some people I've recommended this show to drop it. Not that I think this show is bad (I love this anime), but it helps me see how alot of people can be split on Another. Now I'm going to rewatch this anime, since I will always love the first anime I've ever seen. And I will forever wait for Another 2001.

@@duoreview7492 I love both Higurashi and Another, since Another was my gateway into anime, and Higurashi was my gateway back into horror anime after seeing something beyond the boundaries of both these horror anime.
The funny thing is that I actually still enjoy Another, but it's not as a horror as much as just entertainment. Higurashi, by comparison, actually freaked me out when I first watched it so I hold it to high regards. XD

I have a theory that Kouichi might be dead or he was a victim of the curse in the past.
In the flashback where Reiko’s death is shown, the person who murders her looks a lot like Kouichi.
Misaki and Kouichi cannot recall events from that time, but Kouichi was in that town 1,5 years ago and it was around the time Reiko died.
After the curse is over those who survive forget everything about the deceased person.
It could explain Kouichi’s memory loss. But I think that Ritsuko’s death might have something to do with the curse too. Probably, it is Kouichi that killed Reiko thinking she was the dead person in the past. The moment they showed Kouichi’s chest had some significance that we have yet to pick up.
Either he is dead, or he has a secret weapon do not know of.

The first death is probably the most cursed anime death after the fat guy's death with banana in JoJo
In my opinion, I think it was the lack of adaptation or perhaps the episodes it was set on.
If it was a set to 25 episodes at least then it would've at least taken it's time. 12 episodes make adaptations get shorter and rush to the plot and loses its focus of captivating the viewer's attention.
Another Is just another cliché basic horror anime that literally gets intense for the first 2 3 episodes and then all of the sudden they reveal everything in one go without even trying to hide clues and then they try to make it up with these gory death scenes for the lack of keeping the viewer's attention.
Honeslty the only memorable thing about this anime is the gory death scenes. The plot, setting gets thrown out the window. Lol
It's actually good for me. I don't mind the level of gore or whatsoever. What bothers me is the lack kof character development on some of the characters that died. You somewhat mentioned this too.
So to sum it up, i think what the show lacked was the proper adaptation from the novel. Details that seem unnecessary but play vital roles were cut out.
PS. I also find the death count at the last part to be outrageous. I was like: "is this Birdbox??" 😂

The one (and only) crucial clue that's missing is that we don't get to know that the teacher's staff room was one desk short. The rest of the clues were there, if you pay attention.
But it's deliberately set up to resemble a ghost story at first, in order to completely throw you off balance.

I came here expecting an actual theory about the show's world, and i got an explanation on why the show divides people. I dont give a shit that the show divides people, i get that titling the video "Why Another Divides People" might not get as many clicks, but come on, at least dont title it as if the show has this huge horror element almost everyone missed.

The whole anime was a masterclass, but the ending for me just ruined everything...
