So you might be wondering why it took so long for this second video. (Or really just why I haven't uploaded frequently lately in general.)
I'm going to be blunt: I've been burnt out for a while. At first I thought taking a break might help, but it didn't. I then realized the issue was that I refuse to make my videos goofy. I've been scared for a while to put in fun gags and the like because I've been scared people would say I was "padding for extra watch time," and thus I've made my videos pure info.
That's changing from the next video onward. It's my channel, and if I wanna put some fun goofy stuff in my videos, then I should be able to. I'm sorry about all this. Hopefully the next video is still enjoyable for everyone despite the tone change to come.

I do like your video a lot DouReview, but there actually a question about Deathnote that I'd personally love a theory on: which is how is Light truly supposed to make this "perfect world" of his using the Deathnote?
Sure, Light murders criminals and even some suspects, among other people who aren't guilty of a crime, but I have to assume, (note: Deathnote doesn't say/show if Light does this or not), that he leaves the family members of those criminals alone to live. Now, doesn't that mean that a percentage of those family members of criminals could and/or end up eventually committing other crimes?
I'm not saying this purely due to nature, (through that may be part of the issue here - genetics do effect people's brains sometimes and could actually cause mental illness that creates the potential for certain criminal activity in certain families), but the fact, that the criminal was also in their life, (possibly as a parent or other important figure within the family), and may have taught them how to commit some crimes and/or allowed this person's morals to be able to justify crimes. Thus, I'd have to assume a certain percentage of people related to criminals, (like dad, mom, daughter, son, grandson, granddaughter), may end up committing crimes.
My mom actually taught me how to negotiate at prices at garage sales, so why wouldn't criminal teach his child how to steal or break into homes, if it would be beneficial for the entire family?
So, with alone in consideration, (Note: I'd also love to know how he'd he's Kira without murdering an innocent person for no reason other then to prove that so he can be God of the New World and be recognized for that), so I think that's a question that should be given a theory-related answer.

I personally don't think the point is to decide who you side with. I think the point is to look beyond the simplistic view of "one is right, the other is wrong" and realize this show is illustrating that in this world, there may be no true justice at all. Humanity is far from perfect, and thus there is no true justice.
To a certain extent, it also brings whome the philosophy of "history is written by the winners" or "he who loses is evil". At the end of it all Light lost, and because of that, eventually history will be rewritten with Kira as the one who was wrong, regardless of the fact that L was never 100% in the right. That's just the way the world is.

Life's greatest illusion. But I guess people cannot accept nor acknowledge it. How pathetic. Like Death I suppose. Then again, you might think it is nonsense... Everyone does until they die. Until that moment, I could justify his actions to a degree. Naomi's death made me pull my hands off Light altogether. Now that he was straight-up murdering the innocent people he swore he would protect with his justice - without any hint of regret or remorse, I knew I was looking at a sociopath.

Even if he disapproved of that kind of killing he still did it. Even if light only killed convicted criminal who had no good reasons to commit their crime, Japan conviction rate is over 99%, so a large portion of convicted criminals in Japan are just innocent suffering from a highly biased and corrupted system. Plus that's the best case scenario, if he never killed any known innocent which he did. He also killed way to much criminal to know their motives anyway. We even see him killing any criminal announced on TV. All that without doing any background check, so he can't possibly know who committed crime with malice. But even if he somehow knew the reasons why every criminal committed every crime they committed and the Japanese justice system never made any mistake and he never killed any innocent to protect himself, he would still kill based on his own morale which is not a perfect indicator of justice at all.

I think you've made a slight mistake regarding Light's ideology. He is perfectly willing to aknowledge that some of the people he kills didn't fully deserve to die. His code states he will first go after major criminals and then work his way down to minor and even petty criminals and so on... His idea of a just world is a world where people do not commit crime, where they don't make each other suffer, even if it's because they are too afraid to do anything. Light believes that, regardless of the method, the very creation of this fear in people's hearts is enough.
I would also like to point out that Light does not have the luxury of varied methods of punishment. He can't judge cases with nuance because it wouldn't as effective, but more importantly because his method of judgement is the Death Note. He does not have another option unless he calls it quits on the whole Kira thing.

I knew Light was bananas early on. To me - it came when he revealed his identity in Raye's last moments. He didn't need to do that - it was pure ego.
Killing Lind L Taylor was more of reaction to insecurity. Running Raye's fate in his face is pure evil.
L himself isn't much better. Instead of just immediately chucking Light in a cell & waiting it out - he plays this elaborate game & tries to prove he's smarter.
I think in L's final episode he realised just how careless he's really been. This isn't a game anymore, Light is a complete psycho who is going to destroy everything in his path. He's capable of doing it in ways L himself is.

I was binge watching this show called Revenge the other day. The female protagonist is very similar to Light in that she's mainly going after people that caused her harm as a kid. She also talks about how if anyone gets in her way, she'll destroy them too. However, she never really crosses that line the way Light does.

  • @gravemind7545

I think L is the one who is right here, and Light is wrong. Here is my reason -
L was doing what he was doing not because of his ideology, or because he thought that was "justice", but because that was his job! He was a detective, and it's a detective's job to solve the case and catch the killer regardless of whether the killer was right or wrong. It's not the job of the detective to determine if the killer was right. That's the job of the judge. So L was not doing anything wrong at all by trying to capture Kira. Because that was his job, his livelihood.
Light on the other hand was driven purely by ideology. It was not his job to give death penalty to criminals - that's the job of the judiciary. As a policeman/detective, his job was to capture criminals and produce them before the judiciary, not give death penalty to them. People are made magistrates after some training and experience, and light was not experienced enough or qualified enough to become "justice".
This is why I think light was wrong and L was right.

I agree, but there are contradictions... What right does the judge have to kill humanity for the sake of order. Where sometimes, the innocent are killed and the guilty run free.
Between L and Light, I will agree. In the grand scheme of reality, "Justice" is meaningless because humanity will always contradict it.

Grave Mind with your theory in mind, I believe Watari is pretty scary too, not evil Light took that throne from day 1. L might be a victim of circumstance. He was created/molded in the orphanage and trained to be dependent on Watari. I won’t go into too much detail but I noticed his past isn’t brought up that much but a good example of what he’s capable of is the continued torture of Misa Amane. L might’ve given the order but Watari physically handled the gruesome parts like he’d done it before like maybe at the orphanage or with other criminals. Just a thought please don’t hate on me.

S- CC hint light checks who does crimes and if they actually regret it and didn’t mean to kill someone then they live

    • @Shadowcat753
      @Shadowcat753 6 років тому +1

Light may check that, but there's still the issue of innocent people accused of a crime they didn't commit and a secondary issue that I will point out too. As my mother has said and I'd argue in this, "The police are there to solve the crime, but not necessarily to solve it correctly."
Basically put, cops go with the evidence but sometimes mess up their jobs. They can miss evidence, file things incorrectly, and/or look at something at the scene that seems like evidence that points towards potential suspect and find out later the suspect didn't do it. There's actually a great example of this in Illinois - there was a father that jailed for murdering his 6-year-old daughter because his fingerprints of a house window in his own home, and an over-looked (for 15 years) an important pair of sneakers.
The cops didn't test the sneakers for 15 years and when they did, they found DNA of the actual killer who happened to be a previously convicted child-killer. Sure, they let the father out of jail after those 15 years, but his life is ruined and in Deathnote world - Kira would have killed him because he didn't say he was sorry but instead said he wasn't the murderer, which was actually true.
Secondly, some people wouldn't feel bad if we killed someone, and that completely would be reasonable in some cases. This can be for a variety of reasons - what if a woman was being abused regularly by her husband and no one was helping her, well, some women would kill him to defend themselves while he's asleep; it might be because of shock (not everyone wouldn't have that after killing someone either); what if a child who was being abused killed their parents to stop the abuse, the kid probably wouldn't regret that; and that's not counting the emotional aspect of killing someone.
And that wouldn't even count as accident and/or self-defense for certain countries and/or juries. The USA didn't count the case of women being abused regularly by their husband in that sort of previously mentioned situation as self-defense and/or a reason it may be homicide instead of 1st degree murder until around 1960s-1970s. I'm sure some countries don't count that as a factor to this day.

I recall that when one of the other Death Note users (I'm unsure if it was Misa or the Yotsuba Group but I think it was Misa) first appeared it was noted that the pattern of killing was off and the individuals that committed crimes due to unfortunate circumstances were killed. To me this implies that Light did pay enough attention to the crimes context to make judgement calls on who does and doesn't die, at least at first.

This isn't a bad video, but it just surprises me that you (and maybe many fans) expected there to be a "correct" and objective form of justice and of evil at all. Evil and justice are both subjective. Plus, each person's mind, emotions, and actions are filled with things that we could call evil and things we could call just. Everyone has flaws in their values and/or takes actions that contradict their values (including me). That's just common sense to me. I never thought Death Note was about either side being completely "just" nor completely "evil." It's only natural that you can find things you disgree with in both sides, L and Kira.

Well in their terms... "justice" is the person that "wins", is not whether or not the outcome is fair or not... Rather simply the outcome regardless of how it got there.
The way I see it, Kira is Justice after L dies and then Kira's Justice ends after Near takes down Light. Well you might say there are people out there still rooting for Kira. But I attribute "Justice" to the person per se. As opposed to "group mentality". That's just the way I see it.

Well, what about criminals that do something like steal to feed their families?
That may be illegal, but it's better then starving to death or letting your family starve to death. Some people who were put in the Jewish ghettos of World War 2 before being put in a Nazi-run Construction Camp to ensure their family's survival. And in some areas, people probably still do that because they can't afford to feed their families otherwise.
That also makes me ask, what about people who are mentally ill and commit a crime due to that?
The only legal definition of insanity in the USA court system is lacking - basically, you either must not be able the difference between right and wrong while committing a crime, or not must be insane enough to not know the difference between right and wrong. Yet, in USA, we'd still had a murderer like Andrea Yates, (who suffered from post-postpartum psychosis and drowned all of her kids starting from the youngest to the oldest because of religious delusions relating to that specific psychosis), still able to be found mentally sane and guilty of murder.
Delusions would effect your ability to tell the difference between right and wrong because of how delusions work - so how did she get as declared as sane from a legal perspective? Honestly, I have no clue how.
I'd also point at Richard Chase as a secondary example, (he was a schizophrenia with extreme delusions that caused to murder an entire family to drink their blood - yes, he had been institutionalized multiple times before that for his schizophrenia), of the USA's legal system not recognizing mental illness as actually being insanity from a legal perspective. He was sent to prison after his trial instead of having life stuck in an asylum.
I'd understand killing some criminals because they were monsters that knew exactly what they were doing, (like BTK, H. H. Holmes, and Ted Bundy), and what they were doing was truly terrible. That seems fair enough.

At the very least, I'd say for the point of mental illness, what might be a better thing to do is use them to improve the treatment for other people that suffer mental illness long-term.
A lot more then just criminals have mental illness, (like schizophrenia as an example - since that's actually pretty common), so why kill off those criminals if we can use them to see if treatments, (like new medications and/or therapy), will work or not?
Animal testing (medically speaking) doesn't always translate to humans well - why not use an actual human lab rat or two to improve testing?

    • @xxedgy_outsiderxx9978

Ofcourse this is just my own prefference, I'm saying what I'd like, I would like a happy ending, but the anime's creator has his last word on his own creation.

Some people don't deserve to be allowed rehabilitation.
I saw a BBC mini-doc that had a guy who filmed himself raping a toddler get only 15 years.
He should at least have got life and there should be prisons specifically for people who commit crimes against children where there is an unspoken agreement that the other inmates can do whatever they like to them so long as they don't kill them.
That is unless we had legalised death penalty with provisions for painful methods.
People who only get 15 years after proven guilty of child rape are an example that the criminal "justice" system is a joke.

In my opinion the real problem with Light was his god complex. Light was willing to sacrifice everyone for his ideas but not himself in contrast to Lelouch from code geass. In the last chapter of the manga it was said that Kira/Light actions lowered crime rates in the world by 70% it might be just a cold calculation but in the end Light did more good than evil, of course that doesn't mean that Light was good, its just a matter of interpretation, also its forcing you to think about: how much can you sacrifice for your ideas (may it be world peace etc.)

    • @zeaferjones1404

Lelouch is different in that he will change his plans to protect the people he cares about. Light won't do that. Light is actually more like Lelouch's older brother Schniezel. Schniezel's the exact same as Light he can come across as a nice guy, but he thinks he is so above everyone that he doesn't really care about anyone.

I had some psylillosphy class a couple of years back. There we got the ethical question, where we should choose:
A group of soldiers have lined 5 men up against a wall, they will shoots them. But you get a choice. You can choose to kill ONE of them yourself, and the rest of them would be set free. Kill one by your own hand, or let five die in the hand of another. What will you chose?
Scaled down, you could say Light chose to kill one by his own hand, and L chose to kill all five, just by watching. Either you become the one who kills to safe or you become the one who watch though you could save one.
It's A hard choice, it’s not that easy to kill by your own hand. Light was right when he said “Someone has to do it” - because not a lot of people can or will. At the same time, should you kill at all?

Light judges people and he lets some criminals who he thinks is falsely accused and even kills people who he thinks are guilty even if they didn’t go to jail like the cleaner who he killed in front of the agent and L try’s to get a criminal even if he has to do a crime but he does crime he thinks well help him catch the criminal
