As much as I love Led Zeppelin, this particular song has a special place in my heart. It's absolutely beautiful!

Led Zeppelin songs are Compositions, they are more then songs. I find myself discovering their talent the older I get , they are like a fine scotch or they are like whiskey straight out of the bottle. But they never disappoint and I listen to a lot of music. All different kinds. And these guys are studio quality , bad boy rock Starr’s that are sophisticated in their writing and the playing of their instruments ……with a I don’t give a shit what anybody thinks attitude all mixed into one band the greatest of all time band. Led Zeppelin period.

Maybe my favorite Zep track, most days anyways.
The opening line has lifted me through some trying times in my life:
"Then as it was, then again it will be, and though the course may change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea."
When it comes to Zeppelins catalogue there are little to no bad choices
Great song about a choice Robert made before he became famous. A woman he loved gave him a choice: live a life with me, or live your rock and roll life. Robert followed his heart, and chose music. One of Zep's great songs and ballads.

When I first heard this song in 1975,I was so mesmerized at how great it was,I wrote down the lyrics and just kept them in my wallet for several years.
Jimmy had originally intended this to be an instrumental so there were some 14 guitar parts overdubbed on this song. It makes for a very rich, lush sound and Jonesy's bass is tastefully melodic.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Never gets old.
I was 15 when this album came out and listened EVERY night ! was supposed to be doing homework , this was much better

I bought the album "Physical Graffiti" for the songs "Kashmir' and "In the Light. I was in 8th grade. When I listened to "Ten Years Gone", it made me sad and I didn't know why. Then much later, I heard the story behind it and then I knew why. It remains one of my favorites!
This is a dope song and you having found personal meaning in it, makes it just that much better.
Physical Graffiti was the apex of creativity in the Led Zeppelin catalog. The band was at the top of their game in songwriting and proficiency in playing their collective instruments. Simply the best hard rock folk band in world…

The best part is when Page alternately pulls his pick across all 12 strings, starting at the 4:49 mark, and then the six strings on his double-neck guitar. Then, for good measure, he hits the 12 strings once more. Love that little section right there.

Its always interesting to watch someone messing around with one of the best bands of all time. Can you hear the influence of the Mississippi delta blues. This music has a strange mystical mystery sound to it. It can change your perception. Be careful.

Check out the Led Zeppelin song “The Rain Song” from the album “Houses of the Holy”. Ten Years Gone and The Rain Song are my 2 absolute favorite Led Zeppelin songs. Houses of the Holy could have been album number 3 of Physical Graffiti (double album release).

ten years gone is my new fav rock song of all time,,stairway is best song ever made,tho,,,my 2nd best songs,tie,,is,,,,,,,forevermore by whitesnake and im the mountain by stoned jesus,,,
For something very different, and to lift the mood and I bet you will be the first reactor ever to do this, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Reasons to be cheerfull part 3. Ian Dury suffered from some bone deform issues, there is a medical term for it by it Ican't spell. The Blockheads are one tight fuky band. Even if you have the words you may have some comprehension problems but you'll get the vibe and its a good one. Oh and the live version or in concert is better as you can see the band and Ian. They preform just as good live as in studio and its great watching Ian preform.
I appreciate them more now than when I was a teenager. The guys wore it out! They were never played on the radio. Most rock was underground. In Texas the radio station , The Zoo broke out with rock. People spent so much money and time to pull them off the air! Seems unreal now. I'll tell you there's still plenty underground. Take " Whore and Bad Wolf" In This Moment. One person made it to the radio after years is ,PRETTY RECKLESS, all her music is good to me.....Heaven ,Take me down. Acoustic versions and regular
Physical Graffiti is their masterpiece IMHO and, to think,, many of the songs are leftovers from previous recording sessions.
Physical Graffiti and Houses of the Holy could have been combined to make a 3 album release IMHO.

I suppose this album is Robert's most "mature" set of performances -- but I still prefer the rawness, energy, and spark heard on Zeppelin's earlier albums.
I will never forget Sep 25 1980, it was a Thursday. I came home from school at 230 and my brother told me John Bonham died. I put on the radio and they announced that Bonham was dead and they played Ten Years Gone. This song will always remember me of that day.
Yes sir and I remember the tears streaming down my face, listening to Zep all night …no sleep that night…it was a slow walk to school…I DIDNT WANT TO GO!!! I walked in & you can instantly feel the heaviness , it’s official teenagers (pre-teens) & adults everywhere are mourning the loss of Led Zeppelin drummer John Henry Bonham. Just like that…bam…my whole musical landscape is about to change. I am not sure about this….Thank God I grew up in a city that had a good/great concert in town any given weekend. I’ve been to over 150 concerts but I’m betting you know who was the best show ever!!!!! JAMES PATRICK PAGE…he came…he saw….he changed the course of rock 🎼🎸music and for that we thank you Mr Page…aka the coolest cat to ever walk the earth!!!!

This album was awesome but a little "all over the place" with its vibe to me. The next album, Presence, might be my sleeper favorite, with Zeppelin I probably topping my list 🤔

This song would be epic if it weren't for the hideously out of place middle few minutes of the song--especially the second half of that middle section in which Robert sings. Unfortunately it ruins an otherwise brilliant track.
