Thanks for the video! Wonderful resource. I jumped the gun and switched around 31 and found it to be very enjoyable, and only got better as I went. Only 41 now, but quickly gaining more. Long live the AOE Paladin!
I skipped TBC but I want to be ready for WotLK. Therefore I´m using this guide right now to AOE level my paladin from 60 to 70 in full T3. It is absolutely a blast! Thanks a lot
Saved this to a playlist I have of AoE info, great video, would have liked it if you explained a bit more on the talents but it is pretty self explanatory, just a tiny bit frustrating for leveling since you don't know what to take next. Loved the video!
I'm checking out leveling as prot paladin with my friend playing resto druid and I love it. He just moonfires stuff and they walk into my consecrate in these areas and with his thorns I do even more damage. I just wish I went blacksmithing since the server I'm playing on only has high level shield spikes for 150 gold. Really thinking of dropping my enchanting even though it's at 150 just to grab that for gear and shield spikes, because that's so much damage I'm missing out on.
Nice guide! Liked it a lot! One thing that would have been helpful in the section of "where to farm at what lvl" some video material of how to make the pulls after showing each zone! other then that Thanks for the guide bud!
On the Libram I have to disagree. Do NOT go for either of these for AOE farming, but instead go for: Libram of the Eternal Rest (Rare: LvL68 - Sethek Halls - Darkweaver Syth) Equip: Increases the damage of your Consecration spell by up to 47. Since Consecration is unaffected by the AOE cap, this increases your damage ALOT.
You're right! I dropped the ball on that. I think this is a solid level 70 version of the talents, it's got improved retribution aura and all the prot mitigation talents. Feel free to be flexible with some of the talent points as I would say it's not a hard "this is the best spec" type of build! tbc.wowhead.com/talent-calc/paladin/-05305033100001525215-052050003023
@@Toyhouze Just saying. Crusade is a terrible talent. 3 points for a measly 3% increase? Take a single one of those points into Avengers shield to make tanking dungeons much easier.
Also, thank you for such a well developed and in depth guide for the paladin. I am definitely learning so much more in preparation for The Burning Crusade. p.s. 26 holy damage from Retribution Aura +15 from the set bonus +50% from talents = 60 damage as AOE on every mob
Not sure if you are planning an Update foe this video, but since Conc is not affected by the AOE damage cap, the Libram off the 1st boss in Sethek Halls is Best, because Concencrate will be your Primary Damage dealer.
Secondly, Items like Cloak of Flames, Razor Gauntlets, essence of the Pure Flame, rely on you being Hit. If you are Level 70, AOE farming lower level content, you will not be getting hit often, Mobs will be Missing you, or you will Parry/Dodge/Block most of their attacks. It may be possible for a blocked hit to trigger the damage effect, but misses, dodges, and parries do not.
Really liked this guide, been leveling my pally prot and just love the whole thorns aspect. Love it when I get druid healers just for thorns in dungeons.
i wished you shows us how the talent tree looked like built all the way to 60. u did until 40 something and i was left with about 15 talent point unsure of where to allocate them. non the less it was very insightful
42-54 zulfarak gy, level every ~30-45 minutes, it will start hard but as you go up the levels you will start owning it 66-70 = BM beasts, this is super fast and not too hard you will also get tons of gold
Nice video, I'm making prot paladin alt for gold farming, heroics and 10 man's plus the occasional 25 man raid also. Really excited for tbc! I wanna level it now but I play horde haha
Thanks for posting the links to talent trees. I (as others have mentioned) would like to see what's recommended level by level after 34/35. Thanks for the great video!
One of the best videos I have seen about Pallys. Are you gonna make another one for the WOTLK Classic ?? or just an update level 70-80 (Gear, Specs, Leveling Spots)??
just a note on the Thermaplugg's Central Core, the shield reflection sucks, i used it to tank SM dungeons from 32 till 36 and checked the dps meters to find it did 2% of my total damage, so i would advice replacing it with an actual defense shield or if you're rich/lucky get "The Green Tower" at 36.
I plan on going prot to help gear my ret spec, through gold farming and heroics. How good of an idea do you think this is? Or will this cost of respeccing + the time to collect good prot gear make this not worth it? Thanks, really enjoyed the content.
Thank you for the guide, what I think would be great as well, is a guide for the people who want to roll a pally when TBC launches, but the absolute fastest way to hit 70. Mage AoE is hit, but would dungeon boosting in RFC, SFK, and potentially *still faster* than questing in the open world? Because if you're going to boost, then you're going to want to be at the front of the levelling pack as quickly as possible. Let's see a dungeon boosting guide for pallies who want to get to 70 as quickly as possible and ideally avoid open-world questing unless absolutely necessary. On PvP servers it's going to be an absolute bloodbath with alliance wanting to gank horde pallies non-stop.
1.) Dungeon farming (not being boosted) will ALWAYS be a faster and more efficient approach to leveling from 1-60 since we’ll no longer need to worry about Azeroth reputations or gear 2.) Boosting will likely NOT be an extremely popular activity in the opening days of the expansion since most players will be concentrating on reaching level 70 and not spending their time boosting low level Blood Elves 3.) As I’m sure you’re aware now (seeing as your comment is a month old), both new races are available to players at the release of the Pre-Patch, allowing for everyone to have the opportunity to reach 60 before the Dark Portal opens
@@swiftjuice168 Yep my questions are now outdated. Blood Elves/Dranei are introduced in an pre-patch, making much of my questions 100% obsolete - and I'm super excited for that.
You only listed talents up to I think lvl 38, what about the talents up to 60? 70 ? ===> MAIN question regarding talents would be: "PARRY vs Improved Seal of the crusader" (in the ret tree)
Great vid man! Did you touch on priofessions at all, i could'nt seem to find it. You think its worth struggling to get Jewlcrafting and Enchanting up to make use of the spell power bonus or is that overkill?
The two best professions for a Protection Paladin regardless of role/play-style would be: Enchanting: - Farming: We can disenchant loot that would otherwise be pointless to sell to vendors because of low sale-price - Max-level: We can enchant our own rings with +12 Spell Damage or +4 All Stats which provides a bit of a boost Engineering: - We can make high-stamina trinkets (+45), one of the best helmets for raiding (Tankatronic Goggles), Dynamite, Ammunition for all of your Hunter buddies, various miscellaneous things like fireworks, etc.
Engineering has the force reflective disc while you level and big stamina trinkets as well as just nice utility items. Enchanting is my top pick though since you'll probably make your pally your gold farming character - being able to DE the loot for extra profits and you get the enchanting only ring enchants AND blood elves get plus enchanting skill as a racial.
@@botched6518 To further cement this, you need to investigate what the other professions can provide you as a tank in terms of beneficial aspects: - Blacksmithing: There is only one item that is sought after by Protection Paladins (Boots of the Protector) that is Bind-on-Pickup. Any other item that we may be interested in are all Bind-on-Equip and we can just purchase them from the Auction House or random people selling in Trade Chat - Leatherworking: The main reason any player picks this profession up is for the Drums. However, Blizzard has already acknowledged issues surrounding them and may implement a change. We’re not completely sure if that’ll be a nerf or just a change - Jewelcrafting: This profession is actually held in high regard - it provides gems with more stamina (Generally +3 - +6 stamina) and allows for you to make a couple trinkets (Figurine - Dawnstone Crab / Figurine - Living Ruby Serpent) o In Phase 1, the epic +15 Stamina gems won’t likely be available to purchase, so the “Falling Star” (+18 Stamina, Blue Gem from JC) will provide a slight boost initially. However, the gem is unique, so only one can be equipped at any one time providing a bonus of +6 total stamina o “Figurine - Dawnstone Crab” increases defence rating by 32 and has an on-use effect to increase dodge rating by 125 for 20 seconds You won’t need the defence rating since you will already have 490 You’ll already be at the crush cap as well (102.4%) in the gear I’ll link below o “Figurine - Living Ruby Serpent” (+23 Intellect & +33 Stamina => 345 Mana & 330 Health) and has an on-use effect to increase spell damage by 150 for 20 seconds While nice to have, 345 mana won’t make-or-break you in terms of being able to use the appropriate spells at the right time The stamina is lower than that of the Goblin Rocket Launcher (+45 = 450 Health) If the spell damage were consistent, one could argue that this trinket would be worth a look, but unfortunately, it’s only on-use
Very good guide but your 'list' of why starts and ends with 1 :) so main takeaway is for bis AOE boosting, however what about how coveted it is for raiding, heroics, pvp etc?
Thank you kindly for the detailed video. I was hoping you could drop a response and let me know what UI add-on you are using and perhaps what else you run while soloing/raiding. I am a returning TBC player after around 6 years away and simply cannot remember what I had made use of previously or even if they are compatible with the TBC Classic version. Thanks so much for all the great info!
Hey very happy the video was helpful. I'm not sure what the addon is to be totally honest. I posted in the bottom of the video links to the youtube videos I grabbed clips from, not all of the clips are mine. :)
Which professions shold I take? If im starting from lvl 1 as a blood elf paladin, and i decide to level prot over ret, what professions are best? BS is best for Ret right? And Prot needs spellpower? So is it like Enchanting and Engineering? But then you have no gathering profession so its hard to make gold. What do you think?
Is this guide still valid as of 2022? I'm trying to get a Prot pally up asap and aoe leveling is my favorite thing to do. Thanks for the guide, have a great new year! :)
Was curious if you could list what consumables you were using whilst leveling? Because I'm trying to find the best to use to keep my dumbass alive. Just hit 35 on my Paladin and while my HP stays at a decent amount, after awhile my MP drains super quick due to not having Seal of Wisdom until 38. I found Oil of Immolation to be very effective, but it seems I might have to make them myself as there's hardly any on my server (and they're so OP for leveling at the moment).
The Paladin King approves these messages. I put Fiery Blast (badlands enchant from a quest) on my trash blade in Classic. Was wondering if there was a better weapon for that.
Thank you once again. I think that this will be useful for a stable exp income in addition to my dungeon reputation grinding strategy: I was just going to go to any place which I could find in Outland when not dungeon grinding (Have you heard of this strategy? Grind dungeons to get rep while skipping quests. This is to get the additional gold instead of exp reward at 70 to make getting epic flying faster), but with this, I should be able to cut my time and make it to the Nether Storm or Shadowmoon Valley and make 70 in an even shorter amount of time. Oh yeah that... a tip: Do EVERYTHING which you can to avoid doing any and all quests until level 70 as the exp will become extra gold by a significant amount; this will radically move you closer to that epic mount and shorten repeatable quests. But first, have fun! If you don't want to skip quests, then do so. I intend to do everything which I can to reach that epic flying faster, and this will provide a steady exp income while not in a dungeon. Anyway, THANK YOU FOR MAKING YOURSELF USEFUL AND EASING AT LEAST MY PALADIN BURDENS! Also, I would like to get your opinion on my build, @ legacy-wow dot com (trying to prevent this from being censored), in the URL after "tal=" in paladin talents, replace all those numbers with "0000000000000000000005025133503021022215010520530102000000000000" without quotes, would you tell my your opinion of this build?
Back in TBC I did every quest and I had enough gold by the time I was finished to buy epic flying. And I did them at the appropriate level and not at 70.
I've leveled several toons to 70 back in TBC, and they usually ding 70 sometime halfway through Blade's edge if you do appropriate dungeon groups for your level as well. Leaves you with all of Netherstorm and SMV to get quest gold, and trust me brother that is a LOT of quests. And if you're bringing up a fresh 60, then it's fine to do Hellfire and Zangarmarsh to get those outland greens. Player power goes up exponentially in like the first hour of questing in Hellfire, so you wouldn't want to make yourself miserable and just rely on dungeon drops. On the other hand, if you have a dedicated dungeon cleave group then that's also a good strat as you need to get the rep anyway, might as well do it while leveling.
@@PaleMist somebody else will have to chime in here but I certainly wouldn't try to pug my way to 70 unless you're tanking. If you've got a dedicated cleave group and a prot pally tank I think that could be really good.
are the gear choices and specs still applicable if one wants to not aoe grind? I plan on AoEing in dungeons just gonna do questing instead of aoe grinding.
Hey! @toyhouze What do you think about healing from items nerfs for Prot paladin? You think AOE grinding/boosting as paladin is going to be still a thing?
Ok Wow, that's one informative Video, great stuff. And some Perspektives i didn't even think about. The only thing I'm not really shure about is the Bis list and a few item choices because I don't know if 5 points firedamage is really worth it, missing out on a better cape with Stamina and Intellect or Spell damage like the Cloak of the Betrayed. That offers +12 Int/ Stamina and 23 Spell Damage + a Yellow socked. But anyway thanks for the Video
Would the best class with you be a resto shaman or druid? Or maybe a frost mage? thanks - OR Warlock for hellfire aoe? Holy paladin for double cons plus heals?
Very in-depth explanations of everything - I loved it. I have one question though... What do you AoE farm at 70, that is not the roof of Black temple? I can imagine it being impossible to find a grind spot, since ALL videos points to this place - aaaand a whole lot of people are rerollong protlols. Is there an alternative farmspot worth it, out here?
Great question. I'd say scholomance is a top pick. Tons of great drops there worth gold. Dark runes, disenchanting for mana oils which will be used. Runecloth will still be in demand. Probably other high level vanilla dungeons like strath will be good too.
Yeah I'd say if you want to try it it's still worth it. I'd say if you want to farm with it maybe find a high population server so you can sell the stuff you farm. Good luck man!
Hey mate! Awesome video! I have a question here - I'm planning to lvl a blacksmithing with my pala and make a prot on 70 lvl. What spec of weaponsmith I should select? Is that swordsmith?
I don't think there's anything crazy good for prot there. Blacksmithing is a great choice though for paladin. If you ever decide to go ret Stormherald is easily BiS. Lionheart Executioner for PvE though. Lots of Blacksmithing BoP armor though which is good for tanking. Hope that helps and glad you liked the video!
@@Toyhouze Blacksmithing as their own profession is useless to Protection Paladins. Every item that a Paladin may wish to equip is BoE - sellable on the AH or tradeable between players with the exception of “Boots of the Protector.” This pattern drops from SSC which would lead me to believe you’re already raiding, and it may not be a large enough upgrade to pick Blacksmithing solely for that one item. The two best professions for Protection Paladins would be Enchanting (Ring enchants) and Engineering (Goggles, Dynamite, Trinkets, etc.)
@@swiftjuice168 but should i pick both engineering and enchanting or one and mining, i dont know if i can afford buying all materials for engin and ench. Its for my second character- for my first one i picked skinning and leatherworking so i have no idea
@@hmmmaniki1386 I can understand where you're coming from with this, but there are some things to keep in mind: 1.) As a Protection Paladin, gold won't be a big enough concern to worry about gathering professions since our gold per hour is the highest compared to other classes 2.) The main issue with relying on mining for your own materials is that they are going to be heavily contested by both factions, bots and players alike. You may spend an hour mining veins and only come up with a few materials while you could have spent the hour farming and making enough gold to buy several materials 3.) Technically, Enchanting can be leveled up for no cost whatsoever. Theoretically speaking, all you need to do is disenchant the items you come across and use those materials. You won't get skill increases past 50-70 (I can't remember the exact skill level) but you can use the materials gained to increase your skill level
If you just started classic last month should I invest in Demon Forged Breastplate, Cloak of the Flames now for future farming or save my resources for TBC?
I think those will still be good for pre patch but you might want to wait if you won't play or think pre patch boosting is worth the investment. I think once tbc hits, regular tanking gear will be better
i found that taking seal of command in the ret tree is well worth it... hitting 3 mobs with 1 swing is worth the talent point losing the point in imp ret aura.
Great video! I have 1 question concerning the skullflame shield. Currently is its lifesteal proportional with one's spell damage? I read it was nerfed at some point down to a fixed amount? and when is that happening? I m thinking about buying it but i don't want to spend hundreds of gold for it to be nerfed in a couple months. Also, I want to main retribution in tbc so its just to test things and have fun. thanks :)
@@Toyhouze I asked someone in my server and he said that it scales with your SP . So I went ahead and bought one for 300g. Lowest price I ve seen. Couple hours later one was up for 450. Not bad 😁
How do people feel about Cloak of Flames? is it really worth dumping a lot of gold on? vs a spellpower cloak in tbc for aoeing boosting/goldfarming in classic dungeons? Cloak of Flames selling on my realm for 2k gold atm on the AH.
At level 70, you can buy “Sergeant’s Heavy Cape” for 9,435 Honor Points and 20 Arathi Basin tokens. It grants you: - 33 Stamina - 12 Intellect - 26 Spell Damage (Equivalent to roughly 3.25 DPS from Consecration which equals 6.50 damage to each mob every 2 seconds compared to Cloak of Flame’s 5 damage every 2 seconds) The other thing to keep in mind is that “Cloak of Flames” only affects melee mobs which means casters and ranged mobs won’t take any damage from its effect. It is FAR from being worth spending ANY gold on for boosting/farming at level 70.
@@swiftjuice168 Great answer! Definitely keep in mind a lot of the "on hit" items are going to be replaced by straight tanking gear which will be better.
Great guide! I was afraid I have to get the expensive Skullflame Shield. Figured out it wouldn't scale that well with sp anymore in Patch 2.4.3 (which is probably the state we would get).
@381 322 The Lifesteal portion of the shield scales at a 1:1 ratio with your spell damage. The AoE damage portion doesn’t scale at all with your spell damage. Overall, it is the best shield to farm/boost with. The only exception would be Force Reactive Disk because it would be guaranteed damage to all mobs on every block.
hi, do you see any potencial in Skull Flame Shield on the lvl 70? there are still many people who say that it's still a better alternative than the petrified lichen guard because of the lifesteal - it causes better sustain.. I personally think that's bullcrap, but I'd like to hear your opinion
I do not see any potential with Skull Flame Shield. It is chance on getting hit to proc and against lower level mobs that will happen infrequently. You'll be mostly dodging, blocking, and parrying. You could turn away from mobs and then it might be useful, but you'll be taking a lot more damage then. The Petrified Lichen Guard will be doing a lot more damage, since you'll be blocking a lot. Against level 70 mobs, Skull Flame Shield damage is just too little compared to Petrified Lichen Guard. And Petrified Lichen guard has better damage mitigation in the form of Armor, Strength, and Block compared to Skull Flame Shield.
“Petrified Lichen Guard” has a maximum damage output of 300 every 15 seconds at 5 stacks which takes approximately 10 seconds to reach (Assuming you block every attack) “Skullflame Shield” has a chance to cause AoE damage (75-126) on every hit you take. This counts for blocks and may even count on parries (Parries will have to be tested on live servers) On a pull of 50 mobs… PLG: It would take a minimum of 10 seconds to apply 5 stacks on each mob AND it would require you blocking 250 attacks to do so, which as we all know, doesn’t happen in a row. SFS: In 10 seconds, we would be dealing approximately 187.5-315 damage to every mob. Let’s give you the benefit of the doubt and say you DID block 250 attacks in a row and applied 5 stacks to all mobs in your pull with a lifespan of about 30 seconds: PLG: 600 total damage per mob (30,000 total damage) SFS: 562.5 - 945 total damage per mob (28,125 - 47,250 total damage) This doesn’t even consider the lifestealing capability of the Skullflame Shield, which scales with your spell damage, increasing your damage exponentially. ALSO, PLG requires you to block, which screws us over when fighting casters.
Enchanting and Engineering. Can't beat +24 extra spell damage and the ability to disenchant items no one needs for some extra loot or assistance for other players to get their enchants done at level 70. Drums are nerfed - there's no point to get LW, especially if it was initially exclusively for them.
You didnt mention shield swaping when you reach the 5 stacks on the poison, then use flameshield. I dont think a debuff on ennemi would directly be linked to your shield being equipe. Then when debuff about to run off swap back and press holy shield =)
If you were to be silly enough to use the “Petrified Lichen Guard” for AoE farming, and be lucky enough to apply all 5 stacks, and then switch to another shield you run into a very big problem: You have to BLOCK an attack, which means you’re risking the damage you built up because you likely won’t block in time.
@@swiftjuice168 right now i go up to 20% block unbuff so with holy shield it's 50% and we're not in tbc yet, (wich will bring up more block chance) considering that you have at least half a dozen mob when aoe grinding, i would consider it safe to say you can reliably proc it in time, but to be fair idk how long it takes for the stacks to go down, and if the stacks go away if you change shield, but as it is a debuff on ennemi i think it should stay even with the swap. anyway, i will be testing it when tbc come out.
@@amiraleeverran3653 A couple of things… 1.) In the Burning Crusade, your block % won’t necessarily increase as 20% is actually pretty darn good at level 70 in Pre-Raid gear 2.) In the Burning Crusade, every mitigation stat will be slightly increased 3.) On the Attack Table, your block comes after Miss, Dodge, and Parry 4.) The debuff lasts for 15 seconds (5 total ticks) 5.) You have a maximum of approximately 7 attacks to block over 15 seconds, and much less if you switch the shields in combat
@@swiftjuice168 if you're going to be so aggressive about it.. why don't you state what shield is better for AoE farming thru the 60s? Keep in mind, most of us are considering solo AoE farming.. not having someone to heal us. I know some Vanilla shields have better AoE abilities. But also have lower armor and block values which is important not to be pancaked in Outlands.. also some of the shields have much less durability. Curious what shield you think is better. Right now, my damage meter has not been reset in quite a while.. ran several dungeons, did several quests, did some AoE farming.. and my poison from the shield is accounting for about 7% of my overall damage.. and I have about 225 spell power. That's a nice damage increase, and you really notice it. The proc rate is awesome. Not sure where you're coming from with all this hostility.
@@joshuatucker2521 I fail to see where my supposed hostility is in either comment, but okay. The best shield for AoE grinding at any level AND AoE farming is the Skullflame Shield. Let's look at the shields... Petrified Lichen Guard has a default Block Value of 62. It provides your enemies with a stacking debuff every time you block their individual attack. This debuff stacks up to 5 times, maxing out at 63 damage per tick (every 3 seconds) To achieve this, you need to block 5 attacks from EACH enemy in the pull. Each stack provides roughly 12 damage every 3 seconds. Now, the reality is that you will generally never see full stacks on every mob in your pull since they're more likely to die long before that happens. Skullflame Shield has a default Block Value of 53 - 9 less than the previous shield. Its first equip bonus is that it has a 3% chance when struck to steal X life from the target enemy. The tooltip says 35, but it scales very well with your spell damage. Theoretically, 1/33 attacks will proc this. On a pull with 10 mobs, that will come very quickly and it will seem frequently, too. It also provides a 1% chance to deal mediocre AoE damage when struck. As a Protection Paladin, I would NEVER suggest anyone focus on their Block Value while levelling. That number is completely useless for us. In fact, Level 70 Paladins don't worry about it, either.
I thought concentration was not one of the spells, in the 2.2 patch notes it does not have the AoE change listed next to it
Cons. wasnt nerfed in 2.2.0.

On the Libram I have to disagree.
Do NOT go for either of these for AOE farming, but instead go for:
Libram of the Eternal Rest (Rare: LvL68 - Sethek Halls - Darkweaver Syth)
Equip: Increases the damage of your Consecration spell by up to 47.
Since Consecration is unaffected by the AOE cap, this increases your damage ALOT.

@@parkerfrode5101 Can you recommend another video or guide? Im 64 prot pala atm
100% agree with everything, thank you for posting!
Really liked this guide, been leveling my pally prot and just love the whole thorns aspect. Love it when I get druid healers just for thorns in dungeons.
If you could post up a full talent page that would be brilliant :) Great video, very insightful, much enjoy.
Great vid. I had an AOE paladin in BC. Wasn’t going to play classic BC, but now I think I might just go for it lol
Have fun!
i wished you shows us how the talent tree looked like built all the way to 60. u did until 40 something and i was left with about 15 talent point unsure of where to allocate them. non the less it was very insightful
Sorry man, it should be in the description or comments
Any tips for starting on Fresh servers as prot aoe? What consumes to use while lvling? Mana oil?
42-54 zulfarak gy, level every ~30-45 minutes, it will start hard but as you go up the levels you will start owning it
66-70 = BM beasts, this is super fast and not too hard you will also get tons of gold
Where are those BM beasts??
@@luiscarlotriggiano7317 I believe BM = Black Morass.
Thanks for the amazing work. Thats really a nice and helpful guide for aoe grind and boost.
Cant wait for TBC classic!

Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the great guide, regarding aoe tanking dungeons, which levels do you aim for which dungeons?
Nice video, I'm making prot paladin alt for gold farming, heroics and 10 man's plus the occasional 25 man raid also. Really excited for tbc! I wanna level it now but I play horde haha
Thank you, I know the feeling!
What is the full lvl 60 talent build you recommend?
Awesome vid. Straight to the point and great info. Thanks!
Super glad you found it useful!
Stockade Pauldrons at lvl 50 are awesome as well with the 15 defense
1.) Dungeon farming (not being boosted) will ALWAYS be a faster and more efficient approach to leveling from 1-60 since we’ll no longer need to worry about Azeroth reputations or gear
2.) Boosting will likely NOT be an extremely popular activity in the opening days of the expansion since most players will be concentrating on reaching level 70 and not spending their time boosting low level Blood Elves
3.) As I’m sure you’re aware now (seeing as your comment is a month old), both new races are available to players at the release of the Pre-Patch, allowing for everyone to have the opportunity to reach 60 before the Dark Portal opens
Hey sorry about that, I'm dropping a detailed follow up video tomorrow that will explain in detail!
Great vid man! Did you touch on priofessions at all, i could'nt seem to find it. You think its worth struggling to get Jewlcrafting and Enchanting up to make use of the spell power bonus or is that overkill?
Great guide! I learned a lot. I may have missed this but what professions would you suggest for the AOE pally?
The two best professions for a Protection Paladin regardless of role/play-style would be:
Enchanting:
- Farming: We can disenchant loot that would otherwise be pointless to sell to vendors because of low sale-price
- Max-level: We can enchant our own rings with +12 Spell Damage or +4 All Stats which provides a bit of a boost
Engineering:
- We can make high-stamina trinkets (+45), one of the best helmets for raiding (Tankatronic Goggles), Dynamite, Ammunition for all of your Hunter buddies, various miscellaneous things like fireworks, etc.
@@Toyhouze Thanks for taking the time, I appreciate it. That makes perfect sense!
@@swiftjuice168 Thanks for the breakdown! I have some decisions to make.
@@botched6518
To further cement this, you need to investigate what the other professions can provide you as a tank in terms of beneficial aspects:
- Blacksmithing: There is only one item that is sought after by Protection Paladins (Boots of the Protector) that is Bind-on-Pickup. Any other item that we may be interested in are all Bind-on-Equip and we can just purchase them from the Auction House or random people selling in Trade Chat
- Leatherworking: The main reason any player picks this profession up is for the Drums. However, Blizzard has already acknowledged issues surrounding them and may implement a change. We’re not completely sure if that’ll be a nerf or just a change
- Jewelcrafting: This profession is actually held in high regard - it provides gems with more stamina (Generally +3 - +6 stamina) and allows for you to make a couple trinkets (Figurine - Dawnstone Crab / Figurine - Living Ruby Serpent)
o In Phase 1, the epic +15 Stamina gems won’t likely be available to purchase, so the “Falling Star” (+18 Stamina, Blue Gem from JC) will provide a slight boost initially. However, the gem is unique, so only one can be equipped at any one time providing a bonus of +6 total stamina
o “Figurine - Dawnstone Crab” increases defence rating by 32 and has an on-use effect to increase dodge rating by 125 for 20 seconds
You won’t need the defence rating since you will already have 490
You’ll already be at the crush cap as well (102.4%) in the gear I’ll link below
o “Figurine - Living Ruby Serpent” (+23 Intellect & +33 Stamina => 345 Mana & 330 Health) and has an on-use effect to increase spell damage by 150 for 20 seconds
While nice to have, 345 mana won’t make-or-break you in terms of being able to use the appropriate spells at the right time
The stamina is lower than that of the Goblin Rocket Launcher (+45 = 450 Health)
If the spell damage were consistent, one could argue that this trinket would be worth a look, but unfortunately, it’s only on-use
Great guide. I didn't know anything about Paladins but now I'm an expert. I'm hoping to run a Pally alt. 😁

Thank you for this video I’m a little late to the game but I foresee this helping me out. What combat text addon are you using?
Just started my pally to get ready for Wotlk! Did pally aoe get nerfed even more since this video? Or can I still follow this guide?

Just curious, where do you put points past lvl 40? Do you just complete the basic prot pally build or do you move into the ret tree more?
Love your channel. Make me excited to play a paladin.
Hello I just found your prot paladin guide do you plan on making a new one for WOTLK from 1-80 at all I think it would help a lot of people
Thanks for more TBC content! Can’t wait!
You bet!
Is this still viable?
@@robertp457 Really? Do tell.
@@57precision Question: How long would leveling through Outland with only dungeons to get to 70 take?
@@PaleMist somebody else will have to chime in here but I certainly wouldn't try to pug my way to 70 unless you're tanking. If you've got a dedicated cleave group and a prot pally tank I think that could be really good.
How do you not oom all the time leveling like this?

Ok Wow, that's one informative Video, great stuff. And some Perspektives i didn't even think about. The only thing I'm not really shure about is the Bis list and a few item choices because I don't know if 5 points firedamage is really worth it, missing out on a better cape with Stamina and Intellect or Spell damage like the Cloak of the Betrayed. That offers +12 Int/ Stamina and 23 Spell Damage + a Yellow socked.
But anyway thanks for the Video
Agreed the bis is off a bit. Glad you enjoyed it thanks man

best professions? like enchanting to DE and ring enchants, or JC for better gems, engineering for bombs?
Would the best class with you be a resto shaman or druid? Or maybe a frost mage? thanks - OR Warlock for hellfire aoe? Holy paladin for double cons plus heals?
I'd say mage if you're doing AOE. The mage can flamestrike which isn't affected by the AOE nerf.
Probably other high level vanilla dungeons like strath will be good too.
great vid, very very informative. i appreciate your cadence!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
@Toyhouze is it still worth leveling for the first time in TBC especially with all the server chnGes. Is aoe grinding still worth it
Yeah I'd say if you want to try it it's still worth it. I'd say if you want to farm with it maybe find a high population server so you can sell the stuff you farm. Good luck man!
What weapon enchant should I run if I'm horde? Spellpower?
Yeah I'd say sp is the bis enchant

@@hmmmaniki1386
I can understand where you're coming from with this, but there are some things to keep in mind:
1.) As a Protection Paladin, gold won't be a big enough concern to worry about gathering professions since our gold per hour is the highest compared to other classes
2.) The main issue with relying on mining for your own materials is that they are going to be heavily contested by both factions, bots and players alike. You may spend an hour mining veins and only come up with a few materials while you could have spent the hour farming and making enough gold to buy several materials
3.) Technically, Enchanting can be leveled up for no cost whatsoever. Theoretically speaking, all you need to do is disenchant the items you come across and use those materials. You won't get skill increases past 50-70 (I can't remember the exact skill level) but you can use the materials gained to increase your skill level
I cant see the retribution talents you are using in your build ? can you link to the right place in the video?
congratz for this perfect guide
If you just started classic last month should I invest in Demon Forged Breastplate, Cloak of the Flames now for future farming or save my resources for TBC?
I think those will still be good for pre patch but you might want to wait if you won't play or think pre patch boosting is worth the investment. I think once tbc hits, regular tanking gear will be better

It is true that Skullflame scales with Spell Damage in TBC.
It grants you:
- 33 Stamina
- 12 Intellect
- 26 Spell Damage (Equivalent to roughly 3.25 DPS from Consecration which equals 6.50 damage to each mob every 2 seconds compared to Cloak of Flame’s 5 damage every 2 seconds)
The other thing to keep in mind is that “Cloak of Flames” only affects melee mobs which means casters and ranged mobs won’t take any damage from its effect. It is FAR from being worth spending ANY gold on for boosting/farming at level 70.
@@swiftjuice168 Great answer! Definitely keep in mind a lot of the "on hit" items are going to be replaced by straight tanking gear which will be better.
Amazing video mate

Great guide, thanks
Is it any good for tanking instances or is it pure aoe farming?
Is it worth it using this guide if I am questing instead of grinding specific mobs ?
Great guide! I was afraid I have to get the expensive Skullflame Shield. Figured out it wouldn't scale that well with sp anymore in Patch 2.4.3 (which is probably the state we would get).
@381 322
The Lifesteal portion of the shield scales at a 1:1 ratio with your spell damage. The AoE damage portion doesn’t scale at all with your spell damage.
Overall, it is the best shield to farm/boost with. The only exception would be Force Reactive Disk because it would be guaranteed damage to all mobs on every block.
Awesome video. You spent a lot of time on it and it shows!!@
you rly have to change that section with the Consecration Cap, because there is non, otherwise very nice video :)
I am watching this, while a mage is boosting my Paladin in SP.
waht gear to pick at level 35, should I get str + stam? or str + int? all videos only show lvl 60+ gear !
hi, do you see any potencial in Skull Flame Shield on the lvl 70? there are still many people who say that it's still a better alternative than the petrified lichen guard because of the lifesteal - it causes better sustain..
“Petrified Lichen Guard” has a maximum damage output of 300 every 15 seconds at 5 stacks which takes approximately 10 seconds to reach (Assuming you block every attack)
“Skullflame Shield” has a chance to cause AoE damage (75-126) on every hit you take. This counts for blocks and may even count on parries (Parries will have to be tested on live servers)
On a pull of 50 mobs…
PLG: It would take a minimum of 10 seconds to apply 5 stacks on each mob AND it would require you blocking 250 attacks to do so, which as we all know, doesn’t happen in a row.
SFS: In 10 seconds, we would be dealing approximately 187.5-315 damage to every mob.
Let’s give you the benefit of the doubt and say you DID block 250 attacks in a row and applied 5 stacks to all mobs in your pull with a lifespan of about 30 seconds:
PLG: 600 total damage per mob (30,000 total damage)
SFS: 562.5 - 945 total damage per mob (28,125 - 47,250 total damage)
This doesn’t even consider the lifestealing capability of the Skullflame Shield, which scales with your spell damage, increasing your damage exponentially. ALSO, PLG requires you to block, which screws us over when fighting casters.
Is there gonna be an updated 1-80 guide?
Which professions do u suggest? Engineering and?
It's kinda up to you. For PvE though, can't go wrong with LW for drums. Otherwise, JC or Enchanting
If you were to be silly enough to use the “Petrified Lichen Guard” for AoE farming, and be lucky enough to apply all 5 stacks, and then switch to another shield you run into a very big problem:
You have to BLOCK an attack, which means you’re risking the damage you built up because you likely won’t block in time.
@@amiraleeverran3653
A couple of things…
1.) In the Burning Crusade, your block % won’t necessarily increase as 20% is actually pretty darn good at level 70 in Pre-Raid gear
2.) In the Burning Crusade, every mitigation stat will be slightly increased
3.) On the Attack Table, your block comes after Miss, Dodge, and Parry
4.) The debuff lasts for 15 seconds (5 total ticks)
5.) You have a maximum of approximately 7 attacks to block over 15 seconds, and much less if you switch the shields in combat
@@joshuatucker2521
I fail to see where my supposed hostility is in either comment, but okay.
So what weapon enchantment would you recommend for Horde? unless I'm mistaken, fiery blaze is alliance only.
Some form of spell damage enchant I think is actually BiS!
