That looks a lot like pinecone blanks I've turned - neat result.
I think it may have been pine cone. I’ve had it for so long and with the stabilizing it was hard to tell.

Nice pen Bob but are you sure it’s a corn cob? To me it looks more like a Pine cone core, the corn cob holes are much closer and more of them. Regards
